Thank God or we would have been fighting over it! A top layer of crusted phyllo dough made the flavor and presentation special. I ordered the Maine wild blueberry pancakes and they were absolutely delicious. I'm not sure what the batter is made from -- it's definitely different than your typical buttermilk -- but the flavor pairs perfectly with the fresh blueberries. Bonus points for bringing a whole container of syrup to the table instead of those tiny cups! My husband got the hash special and polished off every bite, which says a lot. The location is beautiful -- right on a golf course with a large deck overlooking the Saco River. We sat outside and enjoyed the peaceful view while we ate. Service was friendly and attentive without being intrusive. If you're in the area and want a great breakfast with a view, I highly recommend stopping here. read more

Hollis is a little out of the way for many folks, but it's worth the drive to visit River Tap & Grille. I tried getting into here another night and it was so packed that there was a wait beyond what we could handle, so I do recommend making a reservation right on their website if you can. I'm so glad we tried again because it was 100% worth it. I'm not a beer or wine drinker so the list of cocktail choices excited me. The Winterberry Mule was delightful. I saw that they offer a margarita flight so I'll have to return with some friends and a DD to try that next. The haddock bites as an appetizer were a great start. We did find it interesting that these had more of a bread crumb batter while the actual fish and chips had the more traditional beer batter texture. There was a menu full of specials being offered due to it being Maine Restaurant Week. When I was torn between a few dishes, our waiter suggested going with the special because I could always come back another time to try the main menu offerings. I'm so glad he said that because let me tell you... the dish was phenomenal! Grilled chicken with sun dried tomatoes, spinach, asparagus and a parmesan cream sauce laid atop mashed red potatoes. WOWZA. It was presented beautifully and tasted even better than it looked. I would expect this dish from a 5 star restaurant in the Old Port, not a golf course in Hollis. I never knew this place existed !! We're so glad we found it. Their menu is quite unique, in the fact that it has comfort foods, done up and interesting and delicious ways. Like their fried chicken sandwich with garlic aioli! They also had a spicy chicken salad sandwich. We will have to go back just to order more from the menu. The patio faces the Saco river and is abutted to the salmon falls country club golf course. Its beautiful country surroundings really bring the meal up a notch. Don't be surprised if there is things like, bugs, ants and wind, because the patio is of course outside, where all of these things do occur. Our waitress also sat us on the patio, she did give us a wind advisory on the umbrella- which we did had to adhere to. Nothing to crazy just a bit windy! We had a nice meal. The food is creative and comfort food all at the same time. We did only get a lunch menu, which leads me to believe they also have a Dinner menu, that's a bit different. The lunch was a lighter fare menu for sure. They're located at 52 golf club lane in Hollis. They have great service, a great spot and great food! Check them out. While they are handicap accessible, the patio only has tall chairs for seating, nothing at wheelchair level. If there was anything to fix, it would be that. The pretzel, meatball and haddock bite apps were all delicious and the sheperds pie and Reuben meals were amazing! We were scouting out property in Hollis and this was, honestly, one of the only restaurants that shows up for this area on Yelp. Lucky for us, it was freaking fantastic. We spent 6 nights in Maine and this was hands down the best meal we had while we were there. We got the crab cakes as an appetizer, very yummy, and I had the bees knees cocktail. It was delicious. I'm not usually a gin drinker, but it was perfect in this drink, and the whole thing was a lovely addition to the little flurry that happened outside the window while we dined. My spouse got a burger (he always does) and I got a French dip with roasted brussels instead of fries. It was a bit of a splurge because of the upcharge, but they were so delicious! The sandwich was amazing too. I've had a lot of French dips, but this was definitely next level. They didn't skimp on the cheese and the broth was so good. The service was also wonderful and even though they had a lot of people dining, everything was super fast. If we end up moving to this area, I know this is going to be a regular place for us. read more

When you first walk up to the place, it looks dark and uninviting. You might wonder if it's closed, but you see cars so you assume they're in there somewhere. Then you walking into a beautiful inviting space. I would do so much more with the outside, maybe even a better indicator of where to enter, perhaps am open flag or something, some lights, idk. Anyway, party of 5 on a Wednesday night. We got right in, and the drinks were flowing. There's a lot going on here, let's dig in. The special cocktail list was pretty good, but the beer list - no stouts, just a brown ale. Only 2 decent options for IPAs. We expected a wonderful beer list since Tap was in the name. But there wasn't even a paper list or a chalkboard. We had to pull our phones out and scan the QR. So the drinks arrive, and we place our orders. We got the smoked pork chop, a Caesar salad with salmon, pulled pork sandwich and one of us got something I can't pronounce - something monsieur, a ham sandwich basically. The smoked pork chop - this was a double disappointment for 2 of us. We were expecting a pork chop, and I was hesitant to even order a pork chop in a restaurant and it was basically a big ham steak. I wish we'd known. One of the girls that ordered it doesn't like ham, but she ate what she could and didn't complain. However, she was looking forward to the garlic Parmesan cauliflower, both of which could not be tasted on the cauliflower. The Mac n cheese side was also pretty basic and just ok. The 2 sandwiches were good, fries underdone and pale, but no biggie, ask for well done fries if that's how you like then. NOW for the Caesar salad.... This has to be the biggest bowl of possibly bagged romaine lettuce I've ever seen. The dressing must be homemade as it didn't really taste caesar-y. And the giant bowl of lettuce made the tiny piece of salmon look comically small on top. It tasted good and fresh though, good news! The croutons were also ridiculously small which we found funny. But the anchovies on the salad added a nice twist. Some of us found out excessively noisy, you can tell they tried with sound buffer panel things on the wall, but not nearly enough. We said we were going to come back and try other things on the menu, but it'll be a while before we make that pilgrimage again. read more

What a great little find. Not far from our house but we have never been before. Easy to get to, beautiful grounds and such a warm inviting atmosphere. Our waitress was absolutely fantastic! With covid things are obviously done a little different and she kept apologizing for any inconvenience. We assured her we didn't mind and expected it if we were going to go out to dinner. I would best describe the food here as elevated pub food. Everything from the juicy perfectly cooked burger, to the ultra creamy mac and cheese, to the decadent cheesecake was perfection. We couldn't get over just how much we enjoyed the experience. We liked that we weren't rushed. We had time between dinner and dessert to sip our drinks and talk. Ate here for Father's Day. All of our food was delicious. I am gluten free and had the cucumber & watermelon salad, very light and perfect to begin summer. The cider glazed pork was perfectly seasoned and cooked. They offered the glaze on the side not 100% sure it was gluten free. My sons steak tips were perfectly cooked. At the risk of being a party pooper, my husband and I went to the River Tap on a Thursday night recently and what a huge disappointment. We have been here on a number of occasions and the food was good, but nothing memorable. Last night we went with friends. We ordered apps, which were very good and came out immediately, then we ordered dinner and sat and sat aaaand sat. The dishes arrived stone cold. But I will only comment on my meal. It was worse than bad, it was blah. Bad is when the kitchen makes a mistake. Blah is when the kitchen is lazy. The pork tenderloin was served as one piece wrapped in way over cooked prosciutto. There was no sauce to help swallow the dry overcooked pork. The mashed potatoes were so cold, butter wouldn't melt on them if there had actually been butter and the green beans were cooked. That's it. No flavor, cold and flaccid. We were given a gift card to apologize for the cold meals which we used to defray the cost, but we don't go out much and the point was to have a nice, enjoyable, hot meal. Like they thought, well it's to go, they won't notice. We did. Sad. We got maybe half of the dessert someone in person would have received.
