No one does tableside guacamole like Jose's Blue Sombrero. It is by far the best I've ever had, and the experience of watching it being made fresh in front of your adds to the mystique. What puts the already great experience over the top is when they deliver fresh from the fryer tortilla chips to scoop up the guac with. Ours were still warm, and very crunchy. Outstanding! The meals are also excellent. I had the browned butter steak burrito (even the name sounds amazing), and it was delicious and quite filling. Our server, Natalie, was attentive, kind, and helpful. My son and I look forward to coming here every couple weeks but we may have to rethink that frequency. The service was entirely too slow based on the lack of customers. On a positive note, the tableside quac always hits the spot. I tried the chicken enchiladas hoping they would deliver a punch but they fell flat. There were fewer than 35 people in the entire restaurant, yet it took almost 45 minutes to get our food. Two tacos, a tamale, and an enchilada (which was ordered as a burrito). The tacos came out cold on corn, yet were ordered and entered as flour. The tamale had good flavor, but was rubbery like maybe it was from yesterday. The bean and cheese enchilada was strange; I didn't feel like waiting for them to correct it, so I just ate it. The refried beans taste like they were from a can - very plain and completely smooth. Kinda like eating caulk. And the rice had color but basically no flavor. The tacos were decent tasting, but came out cold. And like I said, in the wrong shell. It was a horrible meal overall. We won't be back. Ever. This is sad because the restaurant used to have better food and good service. read more

I avoided writing this review because it seems petty. I also saw that a friend wrote one on our experience so I felt as if the experience were captured. But then Yelp asked if I went so I thought "what the heck, I'll write it". Jose's is always "fine". Seldom a wait, drinks are fine, food is okay, bathrooms are clean. Friends and I sat at the bar during happy hour. I pointed to the happy hour special and said I'll take the happy hour margaritas--we three girls had two each. The bill came and it was for $30 which reflects six margs at happy hour price. Then he took it back and gave us a new bill for six margs at a more expensive price. We questioned it confirming we asked for happy hour margs and the two bartenders showed us different size glasses. Yes, they were different sizes, but that wasn't our fault--we assumed we got the happy hour margs because THAT IS WHAT WE CLEARLY REQUESTED/ORDERED. We paid it because I was tired of what they were trying to do. But it was simply wrong and I was annoyed/frustrated. Rethinking about it makes me annoyed and frustrated again ("lol"). I'm not saying I won't go back; if other pals say they want to go I won't be that person who "will never ever return!" because of two male bartenders who manipulated a party of three and their bill... The food is okay, the star of the show really is a guacamole that they make fresh table side. The drinks are solid too, mainly tequila drinks and they also have a good variety of beers on draft and bottles. Service is always quick and friendly. Depending on the day, the mood of the restaurant varies. The ambiance in the front could be on and popping and the back is a little bit calmer. Totally fine. If you like El Beso or El Fuego, you'll like Jose's. This location is in the Tosa Village and does have lovely outdoor seating, plus a parking lot (get your ticket validated). The inside has a ton of smaller rooms so a good option perhaps if you have a group. Menu wise, it's the standards mostly - burritos etc but some interesting things like molcajetes. Everything is a few bucks higher than it should be but portions are generous. I'd love it if the menu called out what comes with plates - if it does I missed it. Anyway I had some variant of chicken tacos and they were fine, if a bit dry. Their rice is really good though. Service was fine. Overall, it's fine. read more

Four of us sat in the rather snug booths of the brightly lit back room. We chose Chimichangas, Tamales, and a Sea Bass entree. All were good, but the Sea Bass with sauteed spinach and cilantro-lime sauce was excellent. The service was very good and the choices were more than ample. Good service and great food. We were seated in the bar area and had one bartender to all of us (group of 10 maybe). It was a little slow as a result but she took our orders accurately and remembered follow ups like more water and chips and salsa without any issues. Extremely impressive. The food was good. I tried the blackened salmon - wasn't too blackened but had a great grill flavor. Heard the steak tacos were okay. The chips and salsa were really on point. Chancery does Mexican This is a super great spot and I was so happy that they transitioned this location after closing the one in Brookfield. They've got a solid menu of offerings but I generally stick with the lake fish tacos. These really can't be beat. Margaritas are always a good addition along with their homemade chips and salsa. VIBES: Definitely a stop spot in downtown Tosa just for the balcony seating and the overlook down to the cobblestone streets. Amazing fried avocado tacos so good I want to go back, but hesitant based on service received. My friend and I went there around 5pm on a weekday and waited for about 30-40 minutes to be seated. We had to ask the hostess as we thought they forgot about us. Took a while to get waited on, but once we got the food it was amazing! My friend and I were catching up for quite a while to be fair, but then our waiter told us we were going to have to leave soon as they needed tables. I have never been asked to leave an establishment for being there too long. It was very off putting and uncomfortable to feel we were being asked to end our visit short. Stopped by Jose's Blue Sombrero because we happened to be in the area, got seated right away. Our server was nice and friendly and the service was quite fast. Happy hour options are pretty good as well! Ordered chips and guacamole as a starter and the way you get to customize your guacamole and how it's prepared right in front you was pretty cool! My husband and I love our guacamole spicy so that's what we requested for and it was so delicious definitely recommend the guacamole. For my entree I ordered shrimp chipotle tacos which were pretty good! Definitely will be returning for the chips and guacamole and their happy hour deals. read more

This place is great! Love the area and there's a controlled parking lot once you dine at the restaurant. The food I had was amazing! The beef tenderloin was juicy and flavorful. I love this place! After a Bucks game some friends and I ate here. We arrived just in time for happy hour! I ordered the Casa Margarita and the Broiled Australian Sea Bass (sauteed fresh baby spinach, white rice, bell peppers, onion, cilantro lime butter sauce). Normally I would not order Sea Bass from a Mexican Restaurant but I am so glad I did. The Sea Bass was perfect. I had two of the Casa Margaritas and they were amazingly good. Jose's in Wauwatosa is my favorite Mexican restaurant in the greater Milwaukee area. The chips are great, and they have three different salsas mild, Verde which is hot and habanero which is smoking hot. Handmade tableside guacamole is delicious and available at a small charge. My favorite dinner is the steak and chicken fajitas, which are seasoned to perfection and presented on a sizzling cast iron skillet. I've tried quite a few other menu items (all were great), but always come back to the fajitas. The fried ice cream desert is out of this world. My wife's favorite dish Pollo a la Parrilla which has broiled chicken breast with onion, poblano peppers and potatoes, all of which she just loves. There's sidewalk dining on the floor level and balcony seating on the second floor seasonally. Free parking is available at the adjacent lot, just have them validate your parking ticket. Lastly, the waitstaff is always very pleasant and happy to help with any of your questions or needs. read more

I would go for the ambience. Walking past, you can't help but see and hear the place, as during the warmer months, it is an open concept and open in front. We were going to sit by the bar area, since *FYI, Happy Hour is only available there* but the music made it a little too loud for more of an intimate conversation. They have their own parking lot, which can be verified after you eat there, which is nice. As pictured in the video, there is a cart they have with guacamole that comes to you, so that is really nice and fresh! I think this is a unique and personable touch, with salsa & guac you are asked on the spice level that you want. They don't have any beers with "hops," but they do have a wide range of selection for drinks (and food). Personally, I don't find this to be "authentic Mexican food." I'm from Milwaukee, and if you go near the south side, it just tastes different . The first thing that comes to mind is how *salty* everything is, including the cheese--which I'm sorry, reminded me of a cheese whiz. Meh. How's that for jumping right in? We stopped in on the recommendation of a friend despite mixed reviews. All I could say after finishing our meal was, meh. Margaritas were fine. No complaints there. My guy had a chicken enchilada and two steak tacos. I had a chicken enchilada, chicken chimichanga and a steak taco. My steak taco came with iceberg lettuce and tomatoes. My guys came with cilantro, fried onion and avocado. We couldn't for the life of us figure out why they were different when we ordered the same item and the server couldn't explain it either. Weird. All I can say about the food is that it was average, unauthentic and pedestrian made for gringos kind of Mexican. I think the refried beans were the best thing on the table. Nothing was bad, per say, but it wasn't great either. Probably a good spot for groups, drinks and apps. No one cleared a single thing off our table including guacamole bowl all night. We had birthday cake so it was hard to do. I kept putting stuff on the ledge next to us. Because glasses kept spilling. Salsa is awesome, Table side guacamole is delicious. Entrees are mediocre. Taco salad was a bowl of greens with three times the amount of taco meat thrown on top of it with some grated cheese. Me and two friends came here around 4:30pm on a Wednesday for happy hour which has a special for $5 house margaritas. We sat at the bar and there was a huge sign behind the bar advertising the $5 special. We all order two rounds of regular margaritas over the course of an hour or 2. When we go to leave, the bartender gives us a bill for $30. Then after giving us the bill, another bartender comes over and says something to our bartender. Our bartender then takes back the bill, reprints it and gives us an updated bill of $36. Apparently there are two sizes of margaritas (a $5 option and a $6 option). We obviously saw the sign behind the bar and wanted the $5 special. When we brought this up to the bartenders, they then grabbed two glasses and started comparing the sizes of our glasses (apparently the $6 glass) to the size of the $5 glass. We had no idea there was even a $6 option and the bartenders failed to ask us what size we wanted when they took our order. So either A) the bartenders decided to pick for us, and picked the more expensive size or B) the bartender didn't even realize what glass he was giving us until it was time to pay. After some back and forth, we gave in and just paid the higher price of the 2nd bill. It was only a $6 difference, however the way the bartenders approached the situation was ridiculous and unprofessional. The difference in glass sizes was laughable. I couldn't believe they went to the trouble of showing us the difference between the sizes because that didn't help their case. Jose's shouldn't offer two sizes to choose from for that special because there's not a discernible difference and it's clearly confusing to all - customers and bartenders. Had a great time tonight on the outdoor patio overlooking downtown Tosa. We had a wonderful server named Brandon who did a phenomenal job making sure we had everything we wanted throughout the evening. The food and drinks were on point! And it was an absolute gorgeous night to sit outside. During this Covid time it's nice to find a place where you can enjoy a great meal,socially distanced and on a beautiful patio. The staff is always extremely pleasant! I have always had a great time when I come here. And I will continue to come back! read more

I loved their tacos and table side guac. Atmosphere inside was nice and the train passing by was cool as well.

The only reason for a two is where the restaurant was located and it had a nice quiet place in the back with nice outside scenery. The waiter not very hospitable and we asked for Queso. He said which flavours They had. He mentioned them. We asked a question for clarification and he hesitated and repeated the same as if "didn't you hear time the first time". We got the cheddar Queso and just about choked. Bitter flavour. Not even on the food did it taste any better. Ordered chimichangas. Looked good but not flavorful. Would not go there again read more
