Lemon Dill Chicken with fresh vegetables and mashed potatoes!!

First time here and it was nothing short of amazing! Everything we had was so good!! The fresh mozzarella sticks was also delicious. This was the cutest little place and the Customer service was great!! Overall 10/10 in my book! Please check out this place if your ever in the Highland area.

We went on a weekday during 4-5 and there were no customers here. That concerned me at first, but this was one of the first recommendations for soup on Maps. I had pretty severe jaw pain that day, so we aimed for soft foods! We ordered the Aguadito Soup and the Chicken Risotto. I never had aguadito soup before and it was pretty good and mild! A lighter soup which I always appreciate. The chicken risotto's appearance made me a little worried as it looked bland, but wow! I enjoyed the delicious, lemony taste. I ended up eating a lot of it and my boyfriend ate the rest of my soup. Personally wasn't a fan of the plethora of steamed veggies and would have preferred less. Somehow they just kept multiplying after eating more of the dish haha. But if you are a steamed veggie lover, you are in for a treat! Another note is that the floor was very sticky where we sat so I think someone spilled a soft drink and it wasn't cleaned up. That is the only reason why this review is a 4 instead of 5 stars unfortunately. I would understand a mishap if the place was really busy, but there were no customers then. Maybe it was overlooked earlier so I'll give it the benefit of the doubt. I really enjoyed this place and want to try more things next time! We always passed by the restaurant and never knew what type of food it served until now. If it weren't for the past reviews, I wouldn't have had the restaurant pop up when I looked up soup!

Driving thru Hammond and found this gem. Service and good was good although the staffing wasn't quite knowledgeable of the evening menu options. Great portion size and enjoyed the Peruvian wine.

Our food haul! $90 worth of food. Fed two people for two days!!! Everything is labeled on the Carry Out Order!

This restaurant is a hidden gem in Highland. Wow the food is good and the service (carry out) was phenomenal. Everything was labeled and we had instructions to know what goes together in our order. (See photos) We tried more of the Peruvian dishes which were a nice surprise. I would love to dine in for the food to be the freshest but we loved just about everything. The talapia was tasty. Although it was cold when we got home, I added them into my air fryer and crisped them up. Voilà! Awesomeness. The appetizers we chose were the potato and the tamale. WOW! I could make them a meal. The size is larger than I expected. The risotto - WOW! This was by far the best meal of the night!!! It was rich and creamy and fresh tasting. The chicken was also just as amazing. It lasted for a while other day since the portions are on the larger size you may have some leftovers. The only dish we were disappointed with was the Civiche. I think the accoutrements overpowered the seafood. And it wasn't the best taste in our opinion. But you can't go wrong with everything else. Thanks Jose's!!!

I'm a business traveler that eats out probably a few hundred times a year. Half of that is some pretty expensive fine dining. I'm also a hobby home cook. So I've got a pretty refined pallet. This night I was just looking for a local greasy spoon. I just wanted to eat , her back to my room and work. I drove by BDubs, several fast food joints and then I saw this little "Main Street" type area. I flipped a u turn and drive down this street. A sports bar, a pizzeria, a beer joint, and then down the block I saw some more lights so I drove another block. And there was Jose's. Right next to a Mexican restaurant. A Peruvian Italian restaurant. What? Almost empty on this Tuesday night I ventured in. Was pleasantly greeted with a smile and a "You can sit anywhere." Perfect. Just what I was looking for. Home town family owned greasy spoon. I ordered the Chicken Marsala with double vegetables. When it came I could tell right away that the vegetables where perfectly cooked. Once I began to East I realized I had made a huge mistake. This was no greasy spoon. The vegetables were in fact perfectly done. I know that doesn't sound like much but perfectly cooked vegetables are very good. Just the right amount of soft crunch. A minute or two longer and there a nuisance on the plate. But that was just the beginning. I picked up my knife and fork to try the chicken. I quickly realized I could throw my knife away. The chicken was amazing. Going forward I cut it with the side of my fork. But the star of the plate was by far the Marsala sauce. It was amazing. It had this hint of sweet to it. Probably the best Marsala I've ever had. And, like I said, I'm a hobby home cook. And Italian is probably what I love to cook the most. If you're near this place and you don't stop in, you're missing out.

With so many people, the dinner was a bit slow to come out all at once, but well worth the short wait. It was hot and perfectly cooked. And there was lots of it. You won't leave hungry. Only one young gentleman to bus, serve, and accommodate us. He kept the orders straight, was attentive and provided excellent service. The owner (I presume) came out a few times to chat and say goodbye. A very cordial atmosphere! The menu is extensive, mostly chicken, beef, and sea food. No pork that I saw. We left happy and satisfied!!! A wonderful place that we'll put on our go-to places! Jim Thomas / DeKalb

My ceviche de pescado made of chopped white fish marinated in fresh lime citrus juices, garlic, ginger and rocoto chili and served with sweet potatoes and Peruvian corn was absolutely delicious with its very balanced flavor. My friends tasted 2 different types of chicken dishes ( Pollada Peruana and Milanese de pollo ) and loved both of them. I noticed that the chicken was not heavily breaded which is a considerable plus. I like that the restaurant varies its special offerings on the weekends that they publish on Facebook. I will be back soon to try the new dishes at this cozy restaurant!

For dinner, I got the chicken tinga dorados and was very satisfied; for $9, this appetizer was absolutely enough to be a full dinner for me and was very tasty. I don't love the space here for a lot of reasons, but the food is great and the service was relatively quick once we got seated. Looking forward to a return visit the next time I'm in town!

In fact!, Im strongly considering a trip to Chicago just to get back to Cabra. I wanted to try so many things but only decided on 3: tuna tataki, shrimp ceviche, and chicken thighs. Ah-mazing! You get a panoramic view of Chicago while being surrounded by lively chatter and ambient mood lighting, making it perfect for a night out. The staff were polite and super attentive, service was a 10/10. I had a great time, but there's one word I would describe the food--salty. Keep in mind, I love salt, some might say even too much (my friends & family definitely have). However, these dishes pushed me beyond my salt limit. I may have even left with hypertension. We ordered: 1. Goat Empanadas served with a huacatay mayo ($18) - 9/10 This was the best dish that we ordered. It was well seasoned with a flakey, delicious empanada dough but it tasted like any other good empanada I've had and definitely not worth the price. 2. Salmon Ceviche* with pistachio smash, avocado leche, and puffed rice ($22) - 7/10 Fatty salmon with citrus are a beloved combination, so no complaints from me. You can definitely get this anywhere else or make it yourself and be satisfied though. 3. Hot Chorizo & Queso Dip with herby chimi, chip crunch, & flatbread ($18) - 6/10 VERY chorizo forward to the point it dominated dip. The citrus from the chimichurri added a nice tanginess. I couldn't appreciate the cheese flavor which I wanted but that depends on your preference. Surprisingly the fresh, fluffy flat bread & sweet potato chips were my favorite part. 4. Jalea Mixta which was fried calamari & shrimp, salsa criolla, & caper mayo ($22) - 4/10 Honestly a very generous portion. Something about it was sickeningly citrusy though so we had to force ourselves to finish the dish. I started developing a headache from all the sour & salty flavors. We were celebrating so they brought us complimentary Peruvian chocolate truffles (I didn't see it on their menu). It was kind of them but it was oddly the MOST salty bite of the night. We each took a bite & had to spit it out discreetly which was very unlike us. I can probably count on 1 hand the amount of times I've had to do that in my life. Also, I'd NEVER turn down a complimentary dessert but it seems like there's a first time for everything. Honestly maybe it's my fault for ordering this combination of dishes...but how can EVERY DISH be TOO salty?! I'm from Texas, so I don't shy away from salty, flavorful foods so I just think Cabra wasn't for me & I wouldn't return. I've tried multiple Goat-affiliated restaurants and despite my repeated mediocre culinary experience, I still keep giving them a chance. In the sea of glowing reviews, I just HAVE to check it out for myself (sometimes multiple times to make sure). So far, I'm not very impressed but I'll see you at my next Goat restaurant review.
