Hands down a 5/5 smash burger.. honestly have no complaints about it. For how messy the burger looks, my fingers surprisingly stayed pretty clean. This place is located in a ghost kitchen/ shared kitchen location. There's three other restaurants that operate from the same kitchen. You go up and order at the counter. Our burgers took about 15 minutes (we went on Wednesday and there was no line). The burger itself is delicious; the brioche bun is rich and delicious and holds everything together well. The patties are super tender, beefy, and have lots of umami flavor. The caramelized beef bacon adds a nice sweetness that compliments the onions and cheese really well. the sauce is on the burger heavy (i could see people asking for less but i loved it) it's like an elevated Mac sauce lol. The whole burger comes together and works really well. The meat is tender and melts in your mouth and you can tell that every ingredient was thought of and not just thrown on. Had our first smack burgers and smack shack fries tonight. Yum! Had a hard time finding the place because the only outdoor signage is for the Corned Beef King, which shares the tiny space with Josh's Smack Shack (they have different hours). It was worth the effort. The burgers and fries were delicious! (Fries are the extruded type - not just potatoes, but they are the best extruded fries I've had. Being fried in beef tallow is probably a big reason for how good they are. It took longer than expected for our order, so 4 stars instead of 5. When we return, I'll ask for less sauce on the smack burger - it's delicious but I felt it masks the wonderful beef flavor a bit too much. My husband liked all the sauce. read more

Runner for the best Smash burger in the DMV. Came here on a Sunday at 3PM and there was a line out the door before they opened. This location is where corn beef king is located. They were out of the fries and I will have to try them next time. They have three different types of burgers. Each one gets better with more patties and sauce. Just go with the Goonzinator 17$. The Bubba $13, will hit the spot and you have to get the crispy bacon as it adds the extra crispness you need with the caramelized onions and house sauce. The Smack $10 is okay but the Bubba has that bacon that elevates the experience. I'm not one who normally opts for a bacon burger but you have to with this burger. The kitchen is run efficiently and that probably why they are always out of fries. They do fine with the burgers. The prickly pear soda is a great choice of beverage to have on the menu. Hype is low key with a lot of locals and some who drove from the district and out of county for the experience they saw on tik tok and IG. Outdoor seating with maybe four chairs inside with heaters. What a nice location with the combination of the air conditioned Clear Skies Meadery full sit down restaurant that has some awesome drinks. Having a sit down on site indoor seating was a game changer. After looking at the photos online, I was not sure if there were any seats outdoors or indoors until I arrived and was told the Clear Skies Meadery was working with Joshs Smack Shack customers together. There was even a free trivia night which had gift cards for prizes. May need to check out more of what they both have to offer. read more

Josh is one hard working dude, churning out Smash Burgers without really catching a break. Josh works out of a shared space (with Pizza Monkey and Corned Beef King) with his family, but it's just him on the grill and the family member at the register. I placed an order online Thursday night, but the restaurant didn't confirm it so it was cancelled. I had no idea until I showed up twenty five minutes later (something came up) and the food was not at all ready. The food took an additional 25 minutes to be prepared and Josh was working in a backlog already. I think he stopped accepting online orders as a result of getting backed up because I thought about going today and the site was not accepting orders. Currently, Josh is not offering the beef tallow fries, but I hope this is resolved soon. The burgers are halal beef and the beef bacon is halal as well (no option for pork-based bacon). The Smash burgers I ordered was one with beef bacon and one without. I think Josh was trying his best to get the food ready that I didn't feel the burgers were as charred as I would have expected a Smash Burger to be. There is no lettuce or tomatoes on the burger, but it goes come with a heavy helping of caramelized onions and a few slices of pickles. The meat itself was juicy and although the beef bacon was so small (I almost missed it), the flavor of the bacon is very much present. Inside the shared space, there is a very small sitting/standing area with one small table. Mostly people wait in their car for their order to be prepared. I am looking forward to trying Josh's again after he has a chance to overcome all of the kinks new restaurants have and can't wait to try the beef tallow fries. read more

I went to the pop up at Clear Skies Meadery in Rockville. I've had his burgers before when he was in a previous location. Absolutely delicious! Juicy, saucy, savory, hit all the spots. Usually I'm not one to chase after viral items but I love me a good smash burger. Place is located in the same storefront as Corned beef king and Pizza Monkey. Due to it being so popular we actually went before opening and they did start accepting orders around 6:55PM. Shortly after ordering there was a pretty long line by 7:04PM and stayed long even after we left. The ordering is done through the one cashier (not where it has the open sign) and you let them know which restaurant you're ordering for. After they take your order, you wait until they call your name and then go up to pay at the same window. It took us about 35 minutes to get our burgers (and we were like the 8th person in line?), so be prepared for a wait. We got the smack (two patties) and bubba (3 parties and bacon). We devoured them in less than 5 minutes. They were covered in the house sauce which is basically a cheese sauce. It's a pretty solid smash burger and I would say it is worth the hype. They're currently out of fries until Weds so just be aware if you were planning to order a combo or fries. read more

Solid 4.5 stars but I'm rounding up to 5! + Burgers taste amazing. Got a double with no sauce and it was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Easily one of the top three burgers I've had in the DMV. - Burger sizing feels smaller than a comparable Five Guys double. Get the three patty if you're hungry. It also sucks to have topping limitations - it'd be nice to have regular onions instead of caramelized to give it a little bite, or a triple without the bacon. +/- Beef tallow fries are an interesting touch. Taste is fine but not very crispy or well-seasoned. Overall I dig it and if they expand, I imagine they'll have a few more options. Highly recommend! read more

Really amazing food but hours are absolutely ridiculous, and for whatever reason when I place an order at the kiosk I'm always being attempted to up sell, not necessarily an issue but just annoying. My only complaints otherwise burgers are the best in the area and the fries are actually pretty good as well. read more

Probably one of the best smash burgers I've tried in the area. I love the beef bacon option since I'm pork free, and the pickles were the cherry on top. Since it's a new spot I expected the wait time to be a little longer than most places, but it was definitely worth the wait. We received complimentary cinnamon rolls which was nice.
