I usually bring my mother to Josie's every time we drive from Louisville to see her oncologist. My past experiences have been great, but the service today was horrible. Immediately after our food was brought out the waitress threw the leather check holder on the table. Very rude.. not once did she return to our table to ask how our food was. This place was DELICIOUS! My parents took my fiance and I here for breakfast one morning during our visit. We had sort of a leisurely morning...so I was very pleased when we rolled in at 10:30 and the breakfast menu was alive and well. I love the eclectic decor-somehow it all goes together very well and manages to not feel like an Applebee's clutter-wise. I had the eggs Florentine, which is a Benedict with accompanying red pepper and spinach. OMG it was good. My real downfall, however, was ordering the breakfast potatoes (good, but probably could have used some more seasoning and/or sauce) instead of the cheese grits that everyone else at the table ordered. I don't even like grits and I loved these. Also had yummy coffee, plentiful refills, and charming mis-matched cups. I'd happily return. read more

This is my favorite place to get a casual bite to eat in Lexington. Right in the heart of Chevy Chase! Service is always quick & efficient. Very friendly also. You must try the tomato basil soup. The bacon was too limp and greasy , the pancakes served with fake maple syrup . I had expected better quality. I will say the pancakes were pretty good without syrup. But not worth the price. I love the chevy chase area and this is one of my favorite spots there. It's wonderful for brunch or dinner. The atmosphere is fun and quirky and the staff is always friendly. I always love their quesidillas which are constantly rotating. The only thing I wish they did differently is doing some sort of special on mimosas for brunch. We went to Josie's for brunch on Black Friday, as we figured the Chevy Chase location would be less crowded than other brunch places since it is so far away from the mall. Sure enough, we were seated immediately, and the place was full but not over-crowded. I ordered the Josie's Dad's omelette, and my boyfriend ordered the eggs benedict. We also ordered a blueberry pancake as a side just to try it out. We thought all the food was very good. The pancake was huge! It was the size of a whole plate, and it was only $1.50 to add onto our meal! It was also one of the best-tasting pancakes we have had, though it was weirdly crumbly. The omelette was delicious. The eggs benedict was good, but it was a bit cold by the time it came out. The biscuit was warm and fluffy, and the cheesy grits were good but heavy. Our server was very enthusiastic and friendly. Our only complaint about the meal was that it was a bit slow to come out. Also, the atmosphere of this place is more family-friendly than couple-friendly, which isn't a bad thing necessarily, but makes it less than ideal for dates. We still had a good time and enjoyed our food and experience, though. read more

First time at this location! Took my niece who was visiting from Ohio. Seating right away although they were busy on this saturday midday. The atmosphere was so cute and comfortable. We got our drinks very quick. Was explained the menu and the specials. I ordered scrambled eggs with the fried potatoes and side pancake. Niece ordered the quiche special and side of cheese grits. I didn't hate nor love this place, I usually have a pretty strong opinion about my food experiences but not this time. We probably got started off on the wrong foot due to what we were told would be about a 20 min wait turned into at least a 40 min wait and no apologies were made. Our server was pretty good despite a few mistakes that were easily corrected. My boyfriends food came out cold, but was quickly re-prepared and was given an extra side of cheese grits while he waited and they are AMAZING so he was cool with that. The pancakes were wonderful and giant. The mimosas were great and well priced. It was loud and despite the food being pretty good and the kids loved it here, we just weren't loving our experience here. Maybe next time we don't go for Sunday brunch at a more chill time and it will be much more enjoyable! read more

This place is so cute. A heads up tho... we went on a Saturday at 11am and it was slammed. Place is adorable and overall good menu. They serve breakfast and lunch all day. I liked it here. For 3 of us it came to $47 Including tax and that was a blt and e without the b... and fried potatoes, a club sandwich with sweet potato fries, and chevy chase special breakfast, and 3 juices. Service was good, food was good and same with atmosphere. It is loud but not where it bothers you. I recommend coming here. Also they have a free coffee station outside while you wait for your table. read more

The waitress stole 5 bucks from us. Our group left a cash tip. We didn't mark out the tip section on the check because hey, surely this sweet lady wouldn't rob us right? Wrong. We called when we seen the charge and the manager was extremely helpful and offered a refund. Then the owner Sharon called us back and was very rude and unprofessional and retracted the managers refund and offered to just refund the stolen tip money back. She claimed her waitress wouldn't do such a thing even with the evidence right in front of her. The five bucks wasnt a big deal obviously, it was the principle of the matter which Sharon refused to accept. I'll never eat at any restaurant she owns (Jose's in georgetown and others) and I would suggest being careful with your receipts and check your bank account when you leave. read more

I stopped by Josie's today and sat near the kitchen. My mistake. The cook kept scratching his face and arms with no gloves on, and then handling food without washing. He was also eating back there. Eating over top of customer's prepared food. Then then he put his bare hand into my French fries and ate a fistful of them before grabbing tongs to plate them. I didn't eat anything I ordered. The floor was filthy and the bar was sticky. It was gross. I didn't say anything, because I didn't get the impression anyone would care. read more

Josie's is one of those classic breakfast spots; busy on the weekends, coffee flowing like the nile and classic dishes. My wife and her sister have a gluten allergy so finding a good breakfast spot is hard. We've had gluten free pancakes at many places but they both unanimously agreed, Josie's were the best. My omelette was perfectly made and the biscuit that came with it was incredibly soft and moist. My only complaint was the service was pretty average. We only saw her twice the whole time after placing our orders and she refused to let me customize my omelette. Other than that, the food was great and I'm sure we will be back. read more

Went to Josie's after seeing it consistently busy and left very disappointed. We went around 11:45am for brunch on a Friday and it was packed. We didn't mind waiting a few minutes, but as soon as we were seated the experience went way down. Within the first five minutes of us sitting down, our server had come by for our food order THREE times. Our drinks took thirty seconds but she came back every minute and asked us to order. As first timers, we were taking the time to read the menu but we felt extremely rushed because of her constant questioning. By the fourth time we were so uncomfortable we just picked something. The food itself was very disappointing--and I just ordered sides! Paid $3 for burnt "fried potatoes" in a tiny side dish and another $3 for an undercooked pancake. When I say undercooked, the bottom was still sticking to the plate, it was gross. I picked what I thought would be a safe option (how do you screw up potatoes and a pancake? They found a way.) We didn't have our food for three minutes before our server brought us the bill. Again, felt extremely rushed for barely mediocre food. I don't know if the people writing positive reviews haven't eaten at any other establishments or what, but I know I will never return to this subpar place. There are dozens of better options within a few miles! DEFINITELY AVOID IF VEGAN, very very limited options if limiting the number of animal products you eat. I have been there many times and wanted to give them a review. I had Josie's Dad's omelette. One of my favorites with grilled English Muffins and skillet potatoes. Very good! Coffee was excellent as well. Colleen was my server and did an excellent job with a smile. It's a great local stand by and well worth the visit. This is one of our neighborhood favorites, and at least once every two weeks, my wife and I will walk down and eat here. I've worked my way through a lot of the menu, and can say the only things that I haven't liked have been the fried dishes (grouper fingers and chicken tenders aren't very good, the fried chicken is better-than-average, but that's it). But, honestly, this is no tragedy. The majority of their menu has wonderful regionally inspired dishes. The "Make your own pasta"'s herb chardonnay sauce is my go-to dish: incredibly flavorful. I'm not a massive hot brown fan, but I've had a bite of theirs and every component shone through. Also, the breakfasts are deservedly famous. This place could really use a new design for how the dinning area is setup. Chairs for the breakfast table could be updated to a little more comfortable and even adjustable would be nice. Not all people are 6 feet tall. The food was fairly good looking. Unfortunately my choice of food to order was not really impressive. The huevos rancheros special was awful and overpriced. Really wanted to send it back from the moment it arrived. For having no meat and very little other than lettuce, pico, small amount of guacamole, and some beans on a corn tortilla this was priced at over $12. My wife had avocado toast and eggs with added sausage links and it was still cheaper. Next time I will make sure to order based on the standards and steer away from the specials. read more

There's really nothing to complain about - the wait can be a little long at peak times, but they handle it really well. I like their policy of not seating people until the whole party is there - it keeps groups from camping for too long. Went out to lunch with a group of friends, all of us servers/food industry workers. Everything was going fine until the waitress messed up slightly on our drink order(we ordered a bottle of champagne) we asked her to fix it politely and she was Receptive. However then the manager on duty(a red headed woman) came over to our table and belittled/scolded us for how we returned the incorrect drink order. We informed her that our mimosa pitcher was watered down and that we wanted just a bottle of champagne so we could refill the drinks ourselves; she then said "well there's no water in it" like we were stupid and told us to please next time not pour our drinks back into the pitcher so that they could reuse it. First of all, as a PROFESSIONAL server I KNOW that once an item touches a table it cannot be resold. That is disgusting and against health code regulations. The server left the pitcher on our table for more than 5 minutes so reselling it would have been a violation. The server was great but the manager was rude and unprofessional.
