Ordered food online, 2 paneer dishes, both were horrible one was burnt and other was no where close to what I ordered

We usually take the food to go, so I can't comment on the service but the food is always always good! I usually get the chicken tikki masala. The portions are huge for such reasonable prices and the food is always piping hot (not, like, spicy hot. I mean temperature-wise. But my husband loves spicy food and loves the spicy options here, too) I recommend also trying the garlic naan! read more

i went here for a post 9pm dinner. Joti Palace rocked my world. We got the vegetarian special dinner for two. yummy lentil and garlic soup. vegetable pekoras were huge and filled with veggie heaven channa masala was spicy and flavorful bhindi bhuna was delicious and turned two okra skeptics into okra fans!! nan and rice were also good. and for desert we got galub jamin, the balls were a bit frozen, I immediately regretted not getting their amazing rice pudding. hence the 4 stars. i can't wait to dig into the leftovers. good meal that left me happy and full. read more

Terrible - Doesn't know the Indian taste. We order "Gobi 65" & "chilly chicken" Gobi 65 was smelling and tasting like it was made in sambhar and it was raw gobi. Instead of chilly chicken we got chicken with white gravy and uncooked.Two of my friends were not feeling well after eating it. Indian Restaurant is all about the taste and it was so terrible I cant say it as Indian Restaurant.There is no way I can give 0 star but I have to give as yelp allows minimum 1 star.Even a beginner would make better than this.I would say go for frozen instead of ordering from here. read more

Bleh. Done with Joti Palace. I suffered through their increasingly long delivery times, but when I waited over 90 minutes for my food, that SHOULD have been the last straw. But now they have a delivery minimum of $20, which means I can never use the 25% off Foodler coupon. If I have to wait forever for my Indian delivery I at least want it to be cheap! read more

Joti Palace is the worst, they took over an hour for delivery. I made the order just after 6 pm and now it is 8:01 and my food just got here and it is cold! I am told that it should be excused because there is only one driver. This is unacceptable business practice! I will never order from Joti Palace again read more

7/4/15: overhauling my review to make it more cohesive and readable, and to include menu items we've tried since the original review. we've ordered from here three times now and it gets better each time, i think. i would say if you're not really into indian food or haven't tried much, this would be more like four stars, but having had some really great indian, i just can't honestly give this more than the "yeah, it was fine" three stars review. as others have mentioned, delivery time is LONG. it is usually estimated an hour and they take probably an hour & fifteen or so. that being said, they come to chelsea all the way from malden and delivery is free and the food is always hot so you really can't complain. but just plan accordingly. the delivery guy is friendly enough, but one thing that really bugs me is that i take the time to write instructions on the delivery receipt - twice. in capital letters. so please stop calling me to ask what the house looks like and which door you should use when you have the answer right there in your hand. come on guys, not that hard. condiments/sides/etc: mango lassi - they forgot this the first time we ordered but we've had no order items missing in the two orders since. delicious & very thick but they also tend to pack this with the hot food (why!) so i usually pour mine into a glass with lots of ice and let it cool down/dilute a little. sweet lassi, sodas - good, standard salty lassi - J ordered this on a whim, we thought it would be like a plain yogurt drink with a little salty flavor. instead it was full of seeds and spices and man...we just did not like this. J described the flavor as "a liquefied bread" and i can't disagree. all the bits made for an unpleasant texture, and the lukewarm temperature didn't help. mango chutney - salty and more jam than chutney, but i can't stop ordering it for some reason. i like to spread it on the garlic naan and then top with chickpeas and onion chutney. onion chutney - pretty standard, but i wish they would add this as a pay-for menu item. i always ask for them to send at least two containers, but it's hit or miss whether they follow through. tamarind sauce - really thin and sour. i usually like this condiment from other indian places but not here. mint chutney - never seen any! regular menu items: samosas chaat - never had this dish before so i don't have much of a point of comparison. i thought it was quite good. i've ordered it each time and it just gets better. the last time i got it it had a really nice spice to it, too. finally! for an indian place the food is decidedly not that spicy. this is also a huge portion. it's listed as a cold appetizer but it is a hot dish, and i usually get it for my main and can barely make a dent in it. chicken tikka - this is the appetizer, not the chicken tikka masala dinner. i did not eat much of this and would not order it again. i expected skewered marinated chicken, like thai style, but instead got a little styrofoam box of chicken chunks covered in overcooked sad looking pepper and onion strings with a few dehydrated lime wedges. like bad mexican. my biggest issue was the texture of the chicken. it just seemed...not right. spongey. you ever get food and just get that gut feeling you shouldn't eat it? yeah. gobi pakora - deep fried spicy cauliflower. another item i haven't tried elsewhere, but it has piqued my interest for awhile. finally got this in our last order and i'm glad i did. these were so tasty! plus they give you about a dozen of them, too. the only thing i wish is that the batter was a bit crispier as opposed to soft, but maybe this isn't realistic for food that has to travel awhile, esp in styrofoam. still totally gonna get these little snacks again. chicken curry - J always gets this and finishes the whole thing - never seen him do that with any other indian food and he's never inclined to try anything else. he loves it. chicken vindaloo - this was just okay. the flavor was good - it was a tasty dish, but to me it just wasn't vindaloo. it wasn't spicy at all. also, both chicken dishes contain both white and dark meat, even though the menu says white meat. not a big issue for me, but ymmv. the curry and vindaloo also both come with a nice portion of rice. garlic naan - this is so good! i can never stop eating this. aloo (potato) naan - never had this before either, but i liked it. nice flavor. just got out-naan'd by the garlic one. overall we'll keep this as our go-to indian delivery place, but if you're in the mood to travel i'd recommend any of the places in cambridge or anmol in beverly if you're out that way. but for us over here in chelsea/everett, we're making it work. read more

I've gotten their chicken tika Masala numerous times, and it's always been great. As well as their garlic nan, very good.

We get takeout pretty regularly from Joti Palace, but we decided to return for a dine-in dinner last night. And it was good. First of all, they made us some freshly brewed iced tea, and of course I appreciate that. And we ordered the vegetarian dinner for two, which is quite a deal - for $25, you each get soup (lemony, good), vegetable samosas (delicious, filled with lots of potato), naan, two vegetarian entrees (we went for paneer tikka masala and malai kofta, both of which were really good), rice, raita (wicked good raita too), and dessert (we opted for the mango ice cream, to-go, since we were already full by the end of the meal). It was a lot of food for a reasonable price. The service is great, as the owners are clearly aiming to please. The decor hasn't changed, and it's still pretty cheesy, but I still love them and will continue to support them. read more

We found this place on Delivery dot com! It was purely a moment of laziness that had us ordering from here. Though our return trips have had nothing to do with laziness! Try the lentil soup, it's light and the flavor is just addictive. The Chicken Vindaloo is hot and has lots of chicken and potato's, nothing shy about the spice (I ordered it medium) or the portion. The masala was awesome and we loved the buffet at lunch when we went back. They put things out in small bins so nothing sits there eternally hardening under a hot lamp! I ordered a delivery for 2 veg. thali and it was only one in the delivery and you guys charged full for the order. The food was also not that good . You guys should improve your service and make sure that you place full order for the customers before checkout. read more

Not sure why this place gets such bad reviews, which is why I had always avoided it but, after leaving my apartment building as a neighbor received her delivery, I was assured that it was really really good. So I took a break from Kebab Corner and gave Joti a try. I was not disappointed. In fact, it may be the best Indian food I have had since I was in India!! My order: * Non Vegetarian Thali Served with rice, chutney. Soup of the day, tandoori chicken, lamb curry, chicken tikka masala, rice pilaf, nan, papdaum and gulab jamun. * Badami Kheer Rice cooked in sweetened milk, raisins and almonds Everything was PIPING HOT! Perhaps because I live very close to Main Street and it was not busy (9pm on a Sunday night!) The tandoori chicken leg tasted as if it were made to order...hot and juicy with just the right amount 'burnt." The chicken tikka masala was creamy and delicious and also piping hot. The only reason I gave it a 4/5 instead of 5/5 is because I asked for a substitution for the lamb curry with another meat and as far as I can tell, I received some kind of veggie dish but that too was hot and delicious (it had potato, red kidney beans, cauliflower, etc.) Oh and there was no papadum. I splurged and ordered kheer rice pudding for dessert because I like to eat it with the gulab jamun. Very tasty even though it did not have raisins as described on the menu. The delivery took less than 25 minutes I believe and everything was great, even the naan was nice and hot which never happens when I order Indian food for delivery. I think that the $20 delivery fee + restaurant fee is a bit steep but the 25% off coupon helped soften the blow. read more

I have never written a food or restaurant review until today. I cannot keep this place a secret! Never have I enjoyed so many different dishes from a single establishment nor have I enjoyed them more. There were so many variations of vegetarian meals to choose from which was extremely exciting. Each one of them tasted like it was handcrafted by a god. I'm in love with their food as well as their expeditious delivery. The price is just right and the customer service is outstanding. First time ordering from this place and it took over an hour and the lady that answers the phone is very rude. She didn't seem accommodating, unacceptable customer service. I called three times and they kept telling me driver is on his way and by the third try they conferenced in the driver who sounded confused and said it would be an additional wait. I've been ordering from Joti Palace for years now. The food is overall good. They're great about toning down the spice so people who order "Mild" can eat it. They make great veggie pakoras - best $3.50 on the menu - but you do need to like them rich - the batter is heavy from the chickpeas, not some tempura coating. Eating at the restaurant is not a particularly pleasant experience. Delivery is a better idea. I like that I can order online from them. What I hate, is that I must now live at the edge of their delivery radius, because it takes more than an hour every time. Here's the real kicker - and the reason I can't call it a 3 star place anymore - the last time I got delivery, the guy complained that I only tipped him $3.50 (on the credit card ahead of time). The guy actually told me "You know $3 isn't enough with gas so high." If he's driving a car that can't go two miles on less than a buck, he should get out of the delivery gig. I was livid. Delivery guy wants tips like a waiter, he'd better plate my food, or drop it off in a blizzard. Anyhow, I don't order from here anymore...but I miss the pakoras. read more

When we first moved to Malden we went to Joti Palace a lot for dinner. Certainly not the type of place to bring a date or someone you want to impress. The atmosphere is awful. But, the food is good so we kept coming back. That being said, we haven't been back for a couple of years. Unfortunately, after watching Gordon Ramsey's "Kitchen Nightmares" it made us think about the fact that if they don't really keep the front of the restaurant looking great, then the back of the restaurant may not be in great condition either. Joti Palace is an excellent option for Northern Indian (specifically Punjabi) delivery/takeout in the Malden/Melrose area. I was born and raised in India and therefore tend to crave authentic Indian food. Unfortunately, it is surprisingly difficult to find really good Indian food in the Boston area. I've lived in Boston for seven years and rate Joti Palace as one of the three or four Indian restaurants in the area that I believe serve exceptional Indian food. I have only ordered delivery from there and have never eaten in the restaurant and therefore cannot comment on ambience and service. I order from them once every week and have not experienced any drastic variation in quality which is impressive for such a restaurant. The vegetable tikkis and samosas are excellent and I do not know how they manage to deliver a perfect crust with a 10 minute drive. The aloo paratha is quite exceptional (though there is a slight variation in dryness from week to week). On good weeks, I would compare the aloo paratha to an excellent home cooked version. The chicken 65 and tandoori chicken are quite excellent and comparable to what you will find in Delhi. If your idea of Indian food is Chicken Tikka Masala please don't comment about this restaurant - the best food they have are the authentic dishes on the menu. Chicken Tikka Masala is not Indian food so please do not use it to measure the quality of Indian food! If I have one complaint - I do wish the delivery speed was a little more consistent or faster. But I'll wait for food this good. read more

Do not go here. This was the worst Indian food I ever ate. The only thing fresh was the naan. Each meat entry we had smelled. It was so significant we couldn't even eat another bite. Also- the biryani here is not biryani! Biryani is a fragrant dish that is full of flavor what we got was colored rice and peas with disgusting chicken gravy. I got take-out from here recently and the quality of the food is still good. We got chicken tikka masala and chana masala, with rice, and plain naan for around $23 total. Everything with the order was correct and there was more than enough for 2, along with plenty for a couple of leftover meals. They used huge chunks of garlic cloves all over the middle, must have been about 10 cloves total on just one piece. Everything was very bland, and cost about $40 for a couple take out containers. My boyfriend and I have come here a few times and always leave satisfied. The food is good (both have tried buffet and have come for dinner) and service is fast. The atmosphere is more like 'Mom and pop' kind of feel, but I'm not looking for anything fancy if all I want is some good tikka masala and naan bread. Probably the worst Indian food i have eaten so far. The restaurant serves sub standard quality. I remember i ordered the vegetarian thali and the meat samosas. I literally had to throw the meat samosas after the first bite because they tasted stale and smelled awful. The thali consisted of yellow lentils (Dal) that was literally water and tumeric and was the worst i ever had. The mixed vegetable was just okay. Moreover, my shrimp vindaloo was extremely depressing. Not only was the shrimp overcooked and rubbery, it had that horrible seafood bite to it which basically means the shrimp was not fresh. I have order delivery and have gone in to dine here. The delivery service was good, it took an average amount of time to arrive and the food was warm and good. When I went into the restaurant the place was a bit run down and dated. However, the service and food was generally pretty good - The bread basket and the Chicken Tikki Marsala was very good. We ordered carry out from Joti. All of the food was amazing. The garlic naan is phenomenal, the garlic is baked into the bread. The Mali Kafta was also perfectly spiced, and delicious. Don't forget to try the samosas!! Yummy!!! read more

This was excellent food. The naan was the best I've ever had. The chicken was delicious, especially good tikki masala. The appetizer sampler was a good taste of several different things.
