We started with their chicken wings which were lean on the meat but I think that made it easier to flash fry because they were so hot and crispy and still juicy! We also ordered their cucumber salad and eggplant salad-- I'd probably just go with the cucumber salad next time but both were good. The place was empty for lunch. I was so looking forward to the blanket dan dan noodles and cucumber salad. Sadly the flavors are completely different. Very cute hidden restaurant that deserves more traction for their large portions, cheap eats, and extensive menu. Went in on a weekend evening and were the only ones visiting, received very sweet hands on service. Ordered soup dumplings that were buy one get one free in servings, filling the whole steam tray. Very good paired with the carrot dipping sauce on the side. Blanket noodles almost felt never ending with their giant size. Joy Cup is the new iteration of Wah Kung Chinese restaurant, which was located in Mapunapuna. Michael, the owner, is starting from scratch. This location is a lot smaller than his previous restaurant. When we entered, he greeted us with a smile as we were just sitting down. "Long time no see" as he directed us to a larger table. Their menu consists of all the good Chinese food staples such as xiao long bao, many different styles and types of noodles, appetizers, special items, HK teas and coffee, etc. We ordered the xiao long bao because there's a promotion for buy one get one free of which ended up being 16 pieces. So the owner assumed we were from the mainland. The restaurant is a bit small but clean, lighted and air conditioned. Although they serve dim sum and many other dishes, we ordered noodle dishes. Jia jiang dan dan mein topped with a lot of meat sauce and a handful of roasted whole peanuts. The owner said they don't add any spicy sauce. We add our own to our liking which is the Sriracha or chili pepper sauce. This dish was really good. Cold sesame paste noodles with roasted whole peanuts. This had a good amount of sesame paste although I would like a little more sauce to stick onto the noodles. Because it is cold noodles, this was refreshing and perfect to eat on this very hot day. Beef brisket look fun. I didn't try this dish but the feedback was good. Would have better with a little more beef brisket and tendon. Blanket noodle. This dish was just that with a little bit of sauce. The noodles were wide and soft, so soft that they broke apart when grabbing it. Still yummy. Hong Kong milk tea. They serve hot or iced, the latter a dollar more. It's not as strong as the milk tea served in Hong Kong but still delicious. Watermelon wedges. Owner served us complimentary watermelon wedges! Looking for lunch on a Sunday afternoon though that this would be the perfect opportunity as the traffic isn't as crazy as it's located right on Kalakaua Ave just outside of Waikiki. The building is the typical old school small single story which shares with a few other tenants but does have a couple dedicated parking stall right in front of the restaurant which is nice though makes me nervous when I'm leaving but was so comfortable on this day that was very mellow. Walking in it was a cute cozy place with a few tables, there was a gentleman watching some tv who greeted me and got me situation with a menu and they are known for their Blank Noodles which did piqued my curiosity though not feeling like having a soup dish decided on the Beef Chow Funn. Classic and simple but was a bit too simple for me with the obvious beef and chow funn noodles and onion though it was seared very well and I really loved that. you can absolutely see that they took the time to sear all the goodness and it was very flavorful. This place was so hard to find. I passed it before i saw it. Its off of the busy Kalakaua Ave and theres not much of a parking lot in front so its easy to miss. They only have 3-4 parking spots out front. Luckily for us there wasn't anyone there at the time so it was easy. I dropped in with my girlfriend for a late lunch. She was wanting to try places with pan fried pork and vegetable dumplings, looking for something similar to what she'd had in her childhood, and though we've found some decent ones, she hasn't quite found what she's looking for. There are parking stalls in front of the restaurant that are hit or miss, busier during lunch and dinner periods. Their menu has expanded. Some noodle dishes carried over. There are Hong Kong style dishes added to the menu. Got won ton mein and their beef brisket look fun today. I feel like the take out experience and food quality may not have been their best representation and dine in would probably better. I like there to be a bite to my won ton mein and they were softer to my liking. They don't appear to make their own noodles anymore to my knowledge. Joy Cup Noodles Mean - the restaurant that boasts it is "Hawaii's Only Authentic Chong Qing Sichuan Noodles". That's quite a statement when there's a restaurant called Wu Wei Chong Qing Cuisine, Chengdu Taste, and Mian nearby that all serve similar items. But it must mean solely the noodles itself because they had the handmade feel and taste! I've been wanting to try this place for a while. The location is not the easiest to get to. It's along Kalakaua Avenue heading mauka (mountain)/westbound, right before Philip St and King St. If you're heading towards Waikiki, you'll need to circle around and head back the other direction to reach its very limited, tight, and small parking stalls out front that's difficult to get in and out. But I finally came here because I randomly saw on my Instagram feed of a TinyTV (YES, he's STILL making these) video featuring Joy Cup Noodles, and I noticed the owner! He was the (real) owner of Wah Kung. Well, if he's there, the food should be good! The inside had an interesting, retro vibe with the vintage style chairs and a Coke napkin dispenser from the 90s. I dig it! We started with the Cucumber Salad with a sesame and soy vinegar dressing. This is freshly made, and I highly recommend mixing it, and leaving it alone for a while to let the dressing and flavor go into the cucumber as it'll be bland and slightly watery if you eat it immediately. This was quite tasty and flavorful with nicely prepared crushed cucumbers. Sweet, savory, and sour. Next was Bamboo Shoots Salad. This was really good, and very familiar as it was very similar to the packaged preserved chili bamboo shoots that I've had before. Probably the same! Tender, tasty, and crunchy with a nice spice kick from the chili oil. We went with the Beef Noodle Soup. The broth was deep and flavorful. The beef was spot on and tender, and the noodles were nice and chewy. Not the biggest fan of the raw romaine lettuce as I feel it dilutes, waters, and cools down the broth and noodles. But still a decent bowl of noodles. Next was the Dan Dan Noodles. This was interesting. Not quite what you see in regular Dan Dan Noodles, but it was quite delicious. I think the addition of spam threw me off, but the toppings were quite tasty and flavorful. This was more saucy, which is always good. The noodles were nice and chewy, and soaked up the sauce very well. This was my favorite out of the two. The only issue I had was we got level 3 spice out of 5, and it wasn't spicy at all. It felt like a level 1. For a Chongqing Sichuan restaurant, I am expecting the spiciness and the numbness. It was very tame. I'm not sure if these are overly adjusted for local taste, but I want the real, authentic taste. Overall, this was a decent meal. Solid appetizers and noodles. There was an elderly man that sat across from us and he looked familiar to me. I asked the worker and was told they changed ownership this week. The beef noodle soup we ordered was okay, but the beef so so tough it was like chewing on chewed gum. And the sesame cold noodles had a really vinaigrette taste to it that made it have a really weird after taste. The worst part was the steamed soup dumplings, emphasis on soup, because these dumplings were dry. Couldn't tell if these were handmade or frozen ones bought at a supermarket but regardless even the trader joe's premade soup dumplings are better. Pregancy cravings got me and this girl has to get some authentic Chong Qing Sichuan noodles. Joy Cup Noodle hit the spot! The restaurant door was locked but there are instructions to call and someone will open the door. Once we got in we were greeted by the server warmly. Blanket noodle is a chewy sheet noodle with great consistency. The broth is nicely flavored and goes so well with the giant noodles. The beef noodle soup was a little oilier with strong beef flavor. Some of the BEST noodles I've had on Oahu, and made/served by the sweetest owner. I've been curious about Joy Cup Noodle since they opened, but never got a chance to go because the parking lot always intimidated me, since it's on a very busy street and reversing out looked extremely tough. When the food came out it looked different in the sauce of the sweet sour sauce looked darker than the orangey color that we use to. The beef chow fun was good, salt and pepper wings also good, the sweet sour pork was different in color but ok, the shrimp canton was very big the shrimp covered the whole batter. The owner was so happy to see us gave us a complimentary dish ong choy with garlic was tasty. And to top it off dessert ube ice cream was complimentary. Wow what a great lunch and he does all the cooking himself. Told us thank you for coming and tell your friends we said will do. This is a hidden gem in Oahu! We had the soup dumplings, scallion pancakes, pork belly noodle soup and salt and pepper wings. Everything was wonderful and the service was friendly, personalized and fast. We will be back! read more

Located on Kalakaua Ave. Mauka bound, they have only couple parkings in front of the store, and a couple more at the back, so parking may be an issue. Owner Michael took over this place a couple of months ago, he said he added some new items to the menu. We ordered the beef noodle, it is good, the must try is the shao Liung Bao, it is fresh and juicy. They have a special going on, buy one get one free, so you get 16 Bao, that is a lot. We also ordered the pot sticker and it was just OK. There are some items that we need to go back and try, per the owner, blanket noodle is their special dish. I will try it next time. They have about 6-7 tables, so this place is not that big. Dinner for two coats us about $50, not bad for today's food cost standard, recommended. read more

We used to come here a ton under the previous owner Lulu, but we stopped coming after she left. We have been wanting to do karaoke here for the longest time but COVID got in the way but we finally did it this past week-- apparently they juuuuust got it set back up a couple weeks ago and it's a great deal-- free karaoke and BYOB and order their bomb food off the menu. We tried the seafood noodle and beef noodle. Both delicious and savory, the beef broth had a bit of spice. Highlight was definitely the tender, perfectly cooked noodles. Not sure if they're made in house but damn they were the perfect texture. The spicy cucumber was also quite good, a more of a fermented taste instead of a pickle flavor. The food took a while to come out but it looked like just the owner working, who was super friendly. Tea was provided as well. The only main complaint is parking. There are like 3 stalls total. Chinese noodles in Honolulu, Hawaii... My friend from Virginia was here to visit her family for the holidays. We've been friends since the first grade and have kept in touch over the decades. It was time to exchange Christmas gifts and I knew where she wanted to go for lunch because we had discussed it in the summer when she was here. She had read the "Dining Out" section of the Sunday newspaper and told me about the Blanket Noodles at Joy Cup Noodles Mean. The name of the place is kind of spooky. I think they mean "min" or "mien" for noodles ...not "mean". I read reviews about the free parking right in front of the restaurant... Yay! I also read that service may be slow - well - it's because it's a one-woman show. Lulu, the owner, greeted us, gave us glasses of water and utensils, took our orders, probably cooked our meals, and served us while being friendly and cheerful. My friend had the Blanket Noodles which look like uncut Look Funn (wide noodles). She got a mildly spicy broth and was coughing because it went down the wrong pipe! If it was me, I'd be choking on the spiciness! I got the Seafood Noodles because it sounded good... And it was!!! I enjoyed the fishcake, shrimp, mushrooms, and chewy noodles. The broth was super delicious because of the garlic. It had more depth than any other broth I had ever tasted! I wanted to drink it up! As I paid in cash, I asked Lulu about the karaoke (it was on the sign). She pointed out the equipment in the corner and said that it was a really good system. I asked to see the song book and she replied that it's a touch screen. Yeah! The next day, I decided to get the Blanket Noodles. It's one thing to watch someone eat it versus eating something yourself. I asked Lulu about the intoxicating broth. She said she makes a fresh chicken broth everyday and she does not use MSG! She also explained about the blanket noodles... They are hand pulled! I asked her where she's from. At first, she said that she lived in Arcadia, Los Angeles, California for ten years. (I know the area well.) She is originally from China where her family has a restaurant. Ahhh... Anyway, I'm planning a dinner here soon with karaoke from 8pm to 10:30pm. We will have a delicious dinner first and then enjoy a fun activity! I'm really looking forward to returning! read more

Great to see a familiar face in owner Mike, who used to own Wah Kung. He brought his energetic style and top level of personal service. The place was nice and clean. The interior was modern. There were various seating arrangements available for all sizes of parties. The menu is different from Wah Kung which good but sad. It's slightly geared to takeout style instead of family portions. But with change comes opportunity. A lot more noodle and broth-type dishes like their beef noodle dish, which I had, including tendon and brisket. And gyoza was a must accompaniment. They have other dishes like pigs feet and noodles, jellyfish, and stuff you wouldn't have seen on the Wah Kung menu. They also had milk-teas and the dessert black bean bowl. Much more to try! But again, you have to go see Mike! Prices are cheap too. read more
