Dad took me here as a kid & everytime we come to China town & the Kekaulike Plaza We always mention Chi Kong . They have a variety of Look Funn Noodles . I like to eat them, right there or at home with oyster sauce. Fry or steam ,you can only get them here. Service is prompt & when they run out, they are done.Ladies busy behind the scenes. No place to eat in, so take out in slabs only . Very inexpensive so you can try alot of their look funn. Go check them out for a cultural experience & delicious Look Funn.

03/02/25 According to my last review, it's been 4 years... think it's gotten worse... prices higher, quality lower. Hardly char siu, only minced pieces and the funn is grainy. Look fun is $1 each... Remind me to not bother coming here.

Never disappoints! Love the char siu look funn with oyster sauce! If you have any left overs, cut them into thin slices for a Wylie toss w veggies.

What to have for lunch? We decided to get Look Funn. Remembering that Paul C had us try the look funn from Chi Kong Look Funn. The shop is located in the Kekaulike mall. After finding the shop I realized that I've bought Look Funn at this location under a different name. There was five ladies talking in the small shop. They notice that I was on my scooter. Making room for me to enter and waved me In. The young lady at the counter gave me my order and in a friendly and jovial way said " Happy Halloween ". Only then I realized the she had on a cute shirt with pumkins on it. Great service and the Char Sui and shimp Look Funn were delicious. Enjoy

I've always wanted to try this and finally bought 2 long pieces. Plain and mushroom were left, so I grabbed the last 2 mushroom. Staying at an AirBnB and was able to makeshift a sweet soy sauce for it, but it wasn't what I was hoping for. Normally these types of rice rolls should feel "smooth" but they were a bit mushy. Sadly, there wasn't a notable mushroom taste either and it felt like the rice flour might have been stale? These are made fresh daily but they tasted old. I'm sad that I didn't love these and may try cha Siu next time to see if I can upgrade the rating.

This is a look funn factory but they have a counter at the front that sells two of their variety of rice rolls AKA cheong funn or look funn. You can get the varieties with dried shrimp, char siu pork or just plain. They are sold so fresh and sometime you can feel the warmth of the rolls just out of the steamers. Prices are reasonable with a super easy to read pricing chart at the counter.

Right in the middle of Kekaulike, I've probably walked by Chi Kong dozens of times in my life. Only recently did my wife ask for Look Funn, which led us to finding the Chi Kong Look Funn Factory. No longer will we ever skip this place during a Chinatown visit! You can see the aunties working hard in the back to make fresh Look Funn. It's not a fancy joint, so expect a wait if it's busy. Cash only, so make sure you got the green. The posted menu has bulk listing with no discount, but it's pretty simple: - Plain look funn $2/roll. - Specialty look funn $3/roll. (Charsiu, mushroom, dry shrimp) A simple menu update would help them out a lot. We opted for 2 of each specialty roll, for a total of $18. Aunty packed all six rolls into a plate lunch container, and the buggah was HEAVY. It's not cut, so we went home to slice it up. We didn't even finish half of it for lunch, and easily took the other half to a family dinner. I did experiment a bit, and the slices were very good pan fried. Worth trying if you don't mind the extra work. I'd also recommend making your own sauce to elevate the experience. Here's a simple one that worked wonders: 1/4 cup shoyu, 1 Tbsp vinegar, 1 Tbsp oyster sauce, 1 Tbsp chili crisp oil. Can mince garlic and chop green onion to taste. Ono. The charsiu was very fragrant and had good bits of meat. The mushroom was also very fragrant, in a different way. The dry shrimp was more subtle but still delicious. Honestly all bangers, and you should choose what sounds interesting to you.

Char siu chang fen (plated at home with sauce and scallions)

I learned today that "look funn" is the unique Hawaiian way of referring to a rice noodle roll (usually referred to as "chang fen" in Mandarin Chinese or "cheung fun" in Cantonese). I imagine part of the reason why this name is ubiquitous in Hawaii is because of this small, family owned shop that has been making "look funn" for over 70 years at this Chinatown location (see Jo Y's great review for a thorough history). "Look funn" is different from "chang fen" in that it's made of rice rather than wheat, so the noodle skin is much thicker, and the mix-ins are added directly to the batter, rather than being wrapped inside of the rice noodle roll. For $3 (cash only), you can get a HUGE look funn, definitely enough to split between 2 people if you want a taste. They roll it up in wax paper and put it in a bag for takeout. I recommend immediately bringing it home, plating it, slightly reheating it, then topping it with a homemade chang fen sauce (a mix of sugar, soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, and water) and fresh scallions. The noodle skin is hefty, well oiled, and has a great flavor. The mix-ins are just the supporting cast. I would also recommend grabbing some BBQ meat amd stir fried veggies from a local shop to pair with your look funn for a complete meal. YUM!

Wife was ono for look funn and we found a spot! It's in the heart of china town. If you park in the china town municipal parking lot on maunakea go out the door on the first floor of the parking lot and it's right there!

Is the mushroom look funn vegetarian?

Yes, the ingredients are mushrooms rice flour, water, and love. The mushroom cheung funn is second to the cha siu cheng funn.

So the thing about coming to Fun Station is the "suspended flying noodle thingy" which I didn't go for, but if you like Instagramable stuffs, then I supposed you would probably go for that flying-noodle dish. As for me, I mainly came to try their Minute Chicken Cake Noodles, and as a bonus......... I actually got a 20% discount thanks to my friend - Jennifer C. who let a Bruddah know about da DEALAGES in da Sunday food section newspaper, as they had a coupon! The Sunday morning when I came with my friend, I can clearly see that this restaurant was thriving, as every table in the restaurant was taken. Fun Station specializes in noodles, but if you're not into that, they do serve other items like - soups, vegetable dishes, rice plates, & porridge (jook). Upon looking over the menu, we ordered the following items - 1. Frrrrrrried Chicken Wings ($9.95) for an appetizer 2. Minute Chicken Cake Noodles ($17.95 - minus da 20% coupon DEALAGES) 3. Beef Brisket Tendon & Won Ton in soup ($18.95) What can I say about da grub??? Da chicken wings came out hot & crispy. Although they featured only "flats" vs. drums (I like drums), I must say da wings was nicely executed. As for the Minute Chicken Cake Noodles.........nicely plated on a fancy smanshy panda plate. The cake noodles weren't drowning in gravy, so the noodles stayed crispy on the dish. I really liked how they did this dish, and would easily come back here to eat it again. My friend had the Beef Brisket Tendon & Won Ton soup. The dish looked good, and there weren't any complaints, so I take it that it was pretty ono! Overall, a very satisfying meal and the service here was on point, as the staff was friendly & very efficient. Easy 5 stars for the Minute Chicken Cake Noodles! Chance 'em!

It's tucked…read moreinto a small strip mall, the dining room is no frills and if someone told me it was just another average neighborhood Chinese restaurant, I'd probably believe them. Then the food starts arriving. We ordered way more than we needed and almost everything impressed me. The chow fun was cooked exactly the way I like it. Chewy, smoky and never overcooked. My only complaint was that it leaned a little saltier than I prefer, but it was still very good. The Hainan chicken was the surprise of the meal. Perfectly tender with an incredible ginger sauce that I'd happily put on just about anything. Even the dishes I normally avoid won me over. I've never been much of a lotus root person, but theirs was crisp, savory and honestly delicious. The wontons were another highlight. Since we skipped the noodles, they generously gave us extra wontons instead, which was a really thoughtful touch. What really pushed this place from good to memorable, though, was the staff. We were there with our two and four year old and they couldn't have been kinder. They brought over little toys to keep the kids occupied, checked on us throughout the meal and made us feel genuinely welcome. None of it felt forced. It was just warm, thoughtful hospitality and that's something I always remember long after I've forgotten exactly what I ate. The bathroom situation isn't ideal, you have to use the one outside the restaurant, but that's really my only complaint beyond the slightly salty chow fun. This isn't the place I'd recommend for date night or a long evening out. It's the kind of neighborhood restaurant you walk into expecting very little, then leave thinking, that was a lot better than it had any right to be. We'll definitely be back.

I finally decided why not and came with a friend on new years day lunch time. They were pretty busy already after just 30ish minutes of opening (12pm). Service: We were seated immediately and the service method is pretty simple, you scan the QR code and order through there. My main gripe with this service method is the waitresses aren't as attentive, we couldn't really ask any questions prior to ordering and even after ordering, I had to stand up to the front and wave someone down to pay for our order (as they had a special they had to apply before we paid). We ordered: - Spicy Beef Pancake: 10/10, didn't expect to like this so much as well. Not that spicy to be honest. More like a light spicy flavor. The beef inside was also juicy. - Pan-fried pork bun: 10/10, I was honestly looking forward to this more than the XLB and I was correct to do so. The filling was juicy like a XLB but the dough was also fluffy, doughy, AND has a crispy bottom. Would come back just for this and recommend this 10 times over!! - Sui Mai: 8.8/10; this was like any other good sui mai you may get at different dimsum places. Just pork though, no mushroom or seafood chucks like some other spots. - Steamed Beef with Sticky Rice: 8.1/10. This wasn't bad by any means but just didn't compare to the rest of the items. I didn't like how some parts were super fatty. - Xiao Long Bao: 10/10, the wrapped is thin but thick enough for me to pick up the dumpling without it popping. The soup was flavorful and so was the pork within. They had a special going on which made our XLB be like $5 instead of the $14 it usually is. We were super surprised of how little our bill was give that we were stuffed at the end of the meal and had some leftovers. Even without the discount it would've been a great deal. I heavily recommend, especially the pan-fried pork bun and XLB!!
