The space itself is bright, neat, and clean -- definitely inviting. Unfortunately, the pedicure was pretty mediocre. No frills, massage was under a minute, barely any scrub, and the cleaning wasn't thorough. It felt more like an express pedicure, yet it cost $38. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We had booked for two people, but when we arrived, there was only one therapist. I find it great that there are three nail salons on this block of Union Street. Joy Joy is usually the busiest. They definitely know what they're doing and they don't rush you in and out. If they weren't the priciest on the block, I'd be a regular. If you just walk another block down, you'll save on your gel and dip. read more

Don't let them use the electric file to take off any old nails/polish. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They have always been my go to place for years until this week.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I went to remove my acrylic nails, which I never had before. The only guy(who I'm not sure is even licensed) that works there & who is usually in charge of "taking off" older polish/nails helped me. He used the electric file on me twice. First to get my initial paint off & the second time after he soaked my nails in Acetone & was trying to get the acrylic part off. I expected my nails to be thinner after the acrylic, but My nails were throbbing in pain and red for 24 hours. This salon has used the electric files in the past to take off gel. It's clearly a quicker option for them, but the client pays the price. read more

I got a dip manicure that I had hoped was going to last me a while as I was going on a 2 week vacation shortly after. It did not last, in fact it lasted about 2 days before my first chip happened. Literally 2 days after and they are chipping. This is my 2nd time at this salon and the 1st time this happened as well. The only reason I decided to go here is because my other salon was closed on union street for the day so I thought I would give them another try. I definitely will not be returning. Such a waste of $95 plus I tipped 20% for a mani pedi. read more

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Always busy even if you make an appointment but they will take walk ins which is nice.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The nails don't last as long as you would expect for the price point - they usually chip within 3-4 days. Long wait times typically and service switches around mid manicure. read more

$81.42 later and all I have are some jagged toes and the lingering question, "was I seriously just gaslit that badly?" LOL Let me start by saying: 1. I hate 1-star reviews; they often assume the worst and don't give the business a chance to know or resolve what happened 2. This review is 100% for the person I spoke with on the phone and not my wonderful and kind technician who was hustling 3. My pedicure skipped some vital steps and seemed rushed so it looks... interesting lol.. I didn't notice until today which was my bad and why I called 4. I also wanted to understood what the "signature pedicure" includes vs assuming... maybe cuticle cutting and nail shaping aren't included? Nail trends are wild these days! 5. I was treated very poorly on the phone and treated like a liar. I wasn't even able to inquire about fixing my nails bc the person on the phone told me "no" my issue was not real but here I am with these messy looking toes LOL 6. Treating well-intended customers poorly and being so disrespectful that you make them upset is never okay 7. Saying "no" again and again when a customer explains their experience, invalidating them is unacceptable unless the customer is lying. This is called gaslighting. 8. Saying you watched every step be completed when you didn't is not okay and just so silly and impossible 9. I appreciate them for blindly having the tech's back vs blaming them but clearly they were avoiding a refund, which isn't what I wanted I just wanted someone to fix these sad little toes 10. This review isn't about my pedicure, it's about the horrendous way I was treated 11. Had I not been disrespected on the phone and my concern been properly acknowledged and addressed, this could have been a 5-star review 12. There were several attempts of Joy Joy randomly saying "thank youu.." in the middle of me talking, trying to hang up (like whaaaat?!) 13. The call ended with them hanging up on me If you're still with me.. Here's how the call went. I called and asked what the signature pedicure comes with. I was told a 10-minute massage, everything in a basic pedicure, paraffin wax, and lotion. I asked what a basic pedicure come with and it was clear that they were supposed to file my nails, cut cuticles, and apply lotion. I also don't remember getting a massage but let's forget about that because the issue is that my toenails are wrecked and the paint job can be described as "2-4 week grown out." I have had one other pedicure in the last 2 years, I am paying for them to clean up my nails and just being here is such a special treat for me. The main issue? The person on the phone responded to me constantly with "no," invalidating everything I said about my service and the very toes I was looking at. This implied I was lying. I have a hideous pedicure and I had to say multiple times "you cannot see my toes, they are on my body and I am literally looking at them." It was laughable. The person on the phone refused to listen, inferred I was lying, told me my reality wasn't true (gaslighting), and yet I am sitting here with my jagged, poorly painted toes. I give my tech a 5/5 given her crazy schedule, what an angel for enduring a busy schedule and such awful management. If they are this rude to customers I cannot imagine how poorly they treat their staff. I genuinely hope that she chose to be so awful because I booked through ClassPass. That being said, Joy Joy is actively partnering with ClassPass so it wouldn't be fair to make that my problem. Speaking of - I paid $81.42 in total. The signature pedicure is $65 but through ClassPass it cost me $66.42 so a tiny bit more than the actual service. I usually tip 20% but tipped 24% on the $65 service knowing ClassPass surely takes a cut. I know that Joy Joy probably didn't realize that I paid more than normal but what I paid makes this experience even more upsetting as someone who never gets my nails done due to their financial circumstances. And when I get a pedicure I tip well, despite my financial circumstances and apparently before looking at what I'm tipping on. Needless to say, I do not recommend coming here. There are so many other incredible nail spots on Union where everyone is kind and respectful. read more

Never met more incompetent nail technician than Trina. I left crying after how she ruined my nails today. I stopped by to take off gel which took her 1.5hr and normally should be around 0.5h. First she was trying to convince me it's acrylics although I have been doing gel for years. She clearly didn't know how to take it off. After some trying she tried to convince me it's done although I could still see and feel gel which I pointed out to her. She got frustrated and used nail file so aggressively that she BROKE two of my nails, one in the MIDDLE which hurts till now, and left grooves in the rest. She kept looking ostentatiously at the clock and telling me it takes too long and that she has other customers. If you can't finish one properly, don't admit more than you can handle. Immediately after I had to buy nail conditioner and completely cut all my nails after taking pictures. I will be healing them for weeks before they look presentable and the nail broken in the middle grows back... I was charged $45 for this "masterwork". Safe to say I would not recommend this place. read more

I have had an entirely different experience vs many of these reviews. This is my third time at the salon and each pedi I have had has lasted forever. Tina was so kind, patient and sweet yday. She warned me that the color I chose would come out light and offered to do a sample trike. I was actually really happy with that stroke and appreciated her gesture. I absolutely loved the results. 3 hrs later I stupidly wore closed toe heels thinking the pedi was completely dry. And to my horror I had smudged the perfect pedi! I came back this morning and Tina kindly fixed my smudges and even after insisting that I pay/offer tip she absolutely refused. I felt so bad as she spent +10 min correcting MY mistake! Tina and Joy Joy are so customer service driven. I'm sorry that I didn't take a before photo but here is her brilliant fix. Thank you so much! I can't wait to go there again! read more

Really sloppy job. Specifically requested gold french manicure for a special event. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Despite showing multiple pictures, tech had no recommendation for color.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]In frustration I ended up picking a random pink color (as the tech complained its taking so long).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Didnt bother scrubbing, massaging, or cutting cuticles (basics of manicure). Was careless with the sanding tool, causing pain and heat on both my thumb nails. Did a sloppy slop with powder. My nails look like ugly blobs of color, which she forgot to paint the ends (so it looks like its already grown out). I am quite upset, as I was getting nails done for my siblings wedding ceremony. Came in on a whim after my usual place wouldn't let my dog come in with me. Overall, people were friendly, place was clean. However, def not worth the price. Got the most basic gel manicure and lady didn't even prep my nails or anything and ended up using the wrong color from what I had selected. Extra star for fixing my chipped nail only a day later but here we are exactly a week after and my nails are already looking busted and ready for another mani. Save yourself the trip and go somewhere else, unless you enjoy having the get your nails fixed every few days. read more

WORST MANI/PEDI IN SF. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY AND TIME. My nails are chipped and it's been an hour since I left. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Arrived at 2:20 for my 2:30 appointment. The woman seemed annoyed I was there.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] 4 people working and they currently have 7 clients which 4 are waiting in the chairs and have not been helped yet. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Not to mention 2 more clients walk thru the door after me and the woman tells all of us it'll only be 15 minutes.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I told them I could come back or cancel and they said it would be no problem. I waited 25 minutes before I was sat in the chair and another 15 minutes before a woman started on my pedicure. She took 15 minutes total for my entire pedicure. Then I waited another hour 20 minutes before another woman started on my manicure. She did it in 10 minutes. My nails are uneven and my cuticles are not cut. I asked for a fan to dry my nails while I waited even longer. I was there 2 hours total for a regular mani/pedi when I was worked on a total of 25 minutes. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They shooed me out before my fingers or toes were fully dry and then asked me to pay a second time because I paid on class pass.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]She did not understand how class pass worked and I didn't know what to do since I had paid thru there.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They do not care about their work. I paid $80 for dip nails that turned out to be lumpy and looked cheap. When I pointed it out, all they said was 'it's too late' and they refused to fix it. I left without tipping, and I am still considering calling my bank to have the charge reversed. No one should spend hard earned money on a luxury to leave feeling cheated. Please, do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. Overpriced, and even more shameful, they don't take pride in their work. Ridiculous read more

i'm going to start off saying that I came here before for a french gel pedicure and had a wonderful job done, came back to get acrylics and felt ripped off. On the left is the reference photo and on the right is what I received after paying $85. I asked 3 times if they were going to be exactly like the reference photo (filling and a thinner white tip) and was assured that it would be. I left the salon with almost duck nails that flare out. I had to point out multiple things that my technician was doing wrong and the owner came up to me and told me that i'm talking too much and that her worker does a good job so to not worry but clearly they don't. I'm really unhappy and feel scammed out of my money. :( read more

Really wanted to give this place an opportunity, bad decision ! Made an appointment for my husband and I, we were seen 30 mins late. Ladies were nice but did not communicate about anything. I really wanted my husband to experience a "pedicure". I asked the lady about options and she had no clue. That was a red flag ! He ended up getting the basic but to be honest the service was not even "basic"! She trimmed his toenails only. Disappointed since I really wanted him to enjoy this. I got a gel pedi, mine was ok however next day I noticed chunks of gel and how uneven the gel looks. Most of all what a waste of time ! Never coming back :( read more

First time at Joy Joy today and I'm in love! We made a last-minute appt for two manis at 5pm on a Sunday. The service was really excellent and efficient--the ladies are super friendly and patient here. It only took 30min for my flawless gel mani. I really like Joy Joy because they have a huge selection of both gel and regular nail colors including Essie, OPI, and CND!! The CND selection is actually very impressive. tl;dr had a great time sipping la croix (complimentary) and getting a post-gym mani. Five stars. read more

I have been a Loyal Joy Joy client and lately I feel that they are just not upholding their Service Standards. This is the third time my Pedi Polish has been ruined by the next day. I had a Gel Mani by a new Nail Tech and I asked her to specifically keep my nails short and after 3 Days they are too long and chipped with Gel. My Service was over 100.00 without gratuity. I have tried calling and visiting the website. Someone picks up the call then keeps hanging up on me so I am unable to leave a message. I would love to have the owners Tina or management to contact me personally at this point as I always refer clients to Joy Joy at both Union and Noe Valley. This is really disappointing. read more

Came here on whim to get a gel manicure. By far the worst experience I've had, the salon wasn't even busy but it was as if they where in a massive rush to just get me out. The manicurist was extremely rough with my nails and didn't even let them soak off properly, she literally filled my nails down sooooo thin just so she could get the previous gel polish off faster instead of letting them soak properly. She was scraping down so hard she kept scratching my skin! There was a girl who was already in the chair when I walked in also getting a gel manicure and they were actually taking their time on her. By the time the manicurist working on me was COMPLETELY done with my nails they had barely finished up her nail trimming/cuticle cleaning. So why the huge difference in time/experience? Easy to say I will not be returning. read more

Sadly disappointed in their services. I paid $85 plus tip for a full French acrylic set and within two weeks my nails were falling off and lifting badly. When I went to another salon to get them filled the salon told me they all needed to be removed and replaced due to how badly they were put on. I've had acrylics many times and this has never happened to me. Waste of time and money. read more

I came for a regular manicure and I left super unhappy. The shape of my nails were all different and different lengths. I had to correct the person doing my nails 3 to 4 times and I still left with some nails rounded and some nails square rounded. I chose a sheer natural color for my nails and once applied, there was no time taken in between coats for the polish to dry which left the 2nd and 3rd coat all fragmented and distorted. The top coat wasn't even shiny. After my service I went to cvs to buy the same polish and redid them myself. Otherwise I would've posted a picture. Whole service was rushed. Perhaps if you do gel it would be a different story. The place was clean though. read more

I went there last week to get gel polish on my finger nails and loved the way they looked but within one week, 5 nails had chipped to the point that I had to get them redone. When I went in to ask for this service they told me it would be $28... I get my nails done frequently and have never been asked to pay for a polish change when it had been within a week of the service. Would not recommend this salon and will not be going back. read more

Despite the language barrier, she was very kind and attentive to ensure my nails were perfect. For my first time visiting this salon, I am very pleased. They are clean and focused on the job. Had a regular polish change and thought they did a pretty good job. Price was about $3-5 more than some other parts of the city though and they are pretty much cash only. ($25 minimum to use a card.) They have an ATM machine inside the business if you need cash. I think the fee is like $3 plus whatever your bank charges you. read more

When I sat down in the chair, I specifically told the person doing my nails that I had not gotten a pedicure in awhile (6 months actually) since the last time I got one, they cut the sides of my toenails and I got such bad ingrowns and my nails literally split from how bad they were. I had to grow them out for that long and had not touched them so my right toenail was a little uneven from the split. She said Ok and said she would be careful. She asked if she could cut just the top of the nail to make it even and square. I said yes, and then repeated that I did NOT want anything on the sides of my toes touched. Despite MULTIPLE times telling her that, she took it upon herself to "clean up" the sides of my big toenails by cutting them at a 45° angle.... the EXACT thing that the previous salon did that absolutely destroyed my nails. When I realized, I asked her, and she tried to defend herself while lying multiple times. She had the audacity to say 1. My nails were already like that, then changed her story to 2. That she was "cutting away" the excess nail polish she had put on away". And then again changed her story to 3. That she actually didn't cut them at all and didn't know what I was talking about. I then said, no you absolutely cut them, why would you cut the inside of the nail when I SPECIFICALLY said at least 2-3 times not to? She replied with, well they're already cut, I can't do anything now. AND THEN TRIED TO CUT THE SIDES AGAIN MORE SAYING SHE WAS TRYING TO FIX IT. I literally had to push her hand away and say "absolutely not, please stop touching my nail." When I walked in, I asked for 2 coats funny bunny, 1 coat bubble bath. Well, 7 coats later and her saying bubble bath wouldn't look very good. I had to accept that my nails were just not going to look acceptable at al. You can actually still see the brush strokes of the polish... AFTER 7 COATS!! It was absolutely absurd how they could not achieve a simple combination that is by far the most popular nail polish combo right now. After she said she was done, I paid, and I couldn't get out of there fast enough. I was on the bridge of tears knowing how long it had taken me to recover from my previous nail fiasco and how long it was going to take to recover from this. I am getting married in August and honestly so sad that my nails might still be affected by this. When I got home, I burst into tears and couldn't believe the state of my nails. After more inspection, I realized she DIDN'T EVEN PAINT MY RIGHT PINKY TOE!!!! I am going to a wedding abroad on Wednesday, so as you can imagine, I was pissed. I had to file down some of my other nails because they were shaped so badly. My big toes don't even look the same shape. I walked back into the store before a dinner reservation and asked for a refund. She asked me to take off my shoes so she could inspect my toes. I told her what had happened and that my pinky toe wasn't even painted. She said she couldn't offer me a refund, just a gift certificate since the service was completed. I responded with... well not really cause my toe was not painted and she specifically did something I asked her not to do. I didn't even mention how bad the nail polish application was since I thought it was pretty fricken apparent and had an uber waiting. I ended up taking the gift certificate since I was in a hurry, and they said I could come back to get them redone and there would be a different person there to do them. I don't know why they would think I would EVER go back there again, but I will be filing a dispute with my CC company. So sad since I had been here multiple times before and live down the street. Would NOT recommend.

I heard about Zorina from a friend & made an appointment online for a gel pedicure with a master level nail tech. Milana, my nail tech, showed me the fresh nail kit before she began. She spent a lot of time removing rough skin & dry cuticles. She was very gentle too. My feet were so soft afterwards! I chose a pale pink color to start but changed to a slightly more pink gel polish. The top coat was either clear, silver sparkle or gold sparkle & we agreed that silver sparkle would be subtle & pretty. They offer complementary beverages including hot tea, coffee, water or champagne where the QR code is next to the service chair. I just had water & was given the cutest little wooden bowl of snacks (mixed nuts, died fruit & a bit of chocolate). Every time I go in, Leyla and the nail techs at Zorina are kind, welcoming, hospitable, patient, and will always give me their advice on what will look best if I ask for it. They are perfectionists on nail shaping and take their work so seriously. I've always done my nails myself because I'm quite picky, but Zorina has exceeded my expectations each and every time I get a manicure. The salon is super clean, the tools are sterilized, and there is always a girly movie/show playing on TV. There is a menu available with different drinks and snacks, and I'm always offered a water when I sit down. Zorina employees go above and beyond to make me feel pampered! I have told so many of my friends about Zorina and how happy my manicures make me. I completely understand she's popular, but it's disappointing to make an appointment for a specific service and technician and not receive either. Sad to say I'll have to look for a new spot, because I can't seem to actually get the appointment I came for anymore.

They only had two techs working, so they ended up handling multiple customers at once. It took a lot longer to get our nails done, and Jenny had to stay 2 hours past closing to accommodate us, but she did a fantastic job!! She's amazing at doing detailed designs and is clearly very experienced. I had to pivot from my original design but she was really skilled and I honestly let her have full reign of the new design, but they turned out beautiful. She put a ton of detail into making sure my nails were perfect to the very last minute. FYI a gel manicure with design and gems/pearls (self provided) was $65 pre tip, which is more than they list on the site. They prefer cash but venmo is also accepted. Very peaceful vibe inside, with a restroom and water provided. They don't rush you at all which is nice :)

This has been my go to spot since moving to the marina. They are clean, friendly and give a killer hand and foot massage! They have a pretty good selection of polishes and super cozy chairs to sit in. The best part is that their pedicure bowls are CLEAN, and they don't use those nasty impossible to sanitize jets! read more

The biggest issue was the French tip on my toes. It came out so bad, crooked, uneven, and the black tip didn't even fully cover my nail. It looked shoddy and unprofessional. When I politely brought it up to the tech, she blamed it on the "shape of my nail bed." I get French toes literally every time I get my nails done and have never had anyone say that or struggle to paint them. If you can't paint nails, just say that. It was so disappointing that instead of getting French nails on my hands to match, I told them to just paint everything solid black so it wouldn't clash with how bad my toes looked. Even the woman sitting next to me wasn't happy about her nail paint so it wasn't just me. Definitely not worth the price, and the quality was nowhere near what a salon in this area should offer.
