There are plenty of nail salons on Union Street and I've been to most of them. I tried Union Nails this week and had a good experience. They have a large selection of colors, and I loved the red speckled shade I chose. This is a basic, no-frills salon -- no massage chairs, just a long bench with pillows -- but they took their time and did a really nice job. Amy is great. I walked home in flip flops and later changed into flats, which unfortunately ruined my big left toenail (ugh!). I went back the next day and they fixed it without any issue. I appreciated that and would come back again. read more

I had time in between a conference and hair apt so I read union nail spas reviews and walked in to ask if they had time for an apt last minute. The ladies greeted me right away and took me. I asked for a pedicure and gel x manicure. Gel x manicure is not my norm but I had broken so many nails from my last gel manicure that I thought why not. They did an absolutely amazing job. My pedicure was wonderful. Great massage, lots of colors to pick from and toes look cute! i asked for almond shaped shorter nails and Amy did such a good job! I'm really impressed. She pays attention to detail and I'll definitely be back. read more

I've been going to Union Nail Spa for at least a year and I couldn't recommend it more! I happened to get my nails done here the day before I got engaged and they were just perfect. I always get a gel manicure and it consistently last me 2-3 weeks and rarely chips. I love seeing Amy, who is so nice, talented, and takes such pride in her work. Stay away from this place . So dirty , nails everywhere. One person works with 3 clients at same time, not washing hands in between. You can easily get a fungal infection in place like this. There are so many more much better places that are clean. read more

Been to this nail salon a few times, and they are so fast and efficient. I also love that they always have availability. Something that threw me off at first was that they do regular top coat over dip but it actually does last a long time! My nails tend to last a 3-4 weeks and the way they remove the dip is in such a healthy way that doesn't damage my natural nail so I really appreciate that. The ladies working there are also so kind and listen to what you want, and let you take your time if you need to answer an email or call. Overall I love this salon and I think this will be my new go-to for SF. read more

I've been going to see Amy for over a year now, and she does a fantastic job every single time! My natural nails have never been so healthy. It's so hard to find someone who knows what they're doing with Dip Powder, and Amy is the best. I can easily go a full month in between appointments, and still get compliments on my nails, even with the grow out. Highly recommend! read more

I hate leaving negative reviews but this was one of the worst manicures I've ever had. I always get a "healthy nail dip" manicure at my local salon but was visiting SF and wanted to treat my daughter to a manicure so we stopped in here as walk ins. We were immediately seated and both received speedy service. The problem started after we left the salon. Within 1 hour, one of my nails completely popped off! Over the next week, I lost a nail a day til I ended up with 2 manicured nails and 8 naked ones. It was a total waste of money. I assume they did not prep the nail bed appropriately prior to performing the dip. Overall, next time I'm in SF, I will walk right on by Union Nail Spa and try any one of a number of other salons on Union Street. read more

- place is clean - no massage chairs - receptionist nice but on personal call in back all day (i dont care but she could have managed a situation better if she was around) - lots of colors which was cool but not enough neutrals - cold water used for soaking feet - terrible time management causing everyone in process to have a worst experience.. i had just been sat down for a mani/pedi and two people walked in asking for mani/pedi and mani. Instead of saying " it will take at least 30min " (because there were only two mani/pedi specialists and they had just started me), the receptionist said " sure! " so they sat down and waited for 40 minutes.. in the process my " massage " was two minutes long on each hand and she told me she would return to put top coat but she never did .. so i had to ask if I could put it on myself.. so then she came to do it but i had to wait longer for it to dry ... and when I finally got up (or attempted to), the pillow and towel were still on me, my nails were not dry so as i adjusted myself no one came to my rescue to move the pillow on my lap!! I had to ask for receptionist or nail lady to help! *in the end, by the time i walked out, the girl who wanted the mani said she didnt want the mani.. because she was STILL waiting while her friend was being worked on! read more

Agree with the other customers that said the ladies are really nice who run the salon but I have gone 2x now and my gel x mani always pops off prematurely. The last and final time 2 nails came off in first 24 hours and within 5 days all 10 nails were off. Bummer because the staff is nice but there is just no longevity. Other salons I get 3-4 full weeks without gel x falling off read more

I've been going to Union Nail Spa for a couple of years and I've always been super happy with it. The space itself is typical Marina nail salon -- narrow and cluttered, but fine -- and they always did a great job (and gave *excellent* food/leg massages and I would often pay for extended time!). Lately it's been a bit touch and go -- a few months ago, they gave me a manicure and cut me two times (on different hands) that ended up getting infected and was super painful. Still, I went back to let them redeem themselves. Today I called to make an appointment for a pedicure (which, in my experience, they loosely adhere to anyway), and when I went I still had to wait about 15 min. There was a new lady who started my pedicure. She made one of my toes bleed, and just laughed at it without apologizing. The foot massage was nonexistent, and the overall quality was just meh. The salon was cold, and hectic, and there was another woman who had made an appointment (for an entire hour after mine) that was getting up to leave because she didn't have the time to sit and wait. I want to keep supporting this place, but I'm not sure why I should keep giving them the benefit of the doubt. There are 2 or 3 other nail salons within a block. read more

Amy was amazing. She took her time, was detail oriented and you could tell she cared about doing good work. I did dip with tip with an almond shape and they came out wonderfully. I called ahead of time and was able to come in almost immediately around 3:30pm on a Monday. She ended the appointment with a nice hand massage as well. My new go to! read more

Stopped in for my first mani/pedi since pre-Covid days. This nail spa is brand new, modern, clean, and the staff were properly masked and gloved; I felt really safe. The color selection is endless! Also, a bonus: they are taking 15% off any service through June. My hands and feet were in desperate need of TLC. The sweet nail technician took her time attending to my cuticles. At the end of a very relaxing experience, my hands and feet had a major makeover that I'm so happy about! read more

I never get my nails done but my wedding was coming up and I asked a friend for a recommendation. We went to Union mail spa and it was great for a newbie like me. I was late because I usually get lost trying to find new places. We called and the place was very accommodating. Showed a picture of what I wanted and they helped me pick out the right colors. I feel bad writing this because the ladies were nice but I was not happy with the result. Firstly, it was sort of uncomfortable when I was getting the grooming treatment and the cuticle cutting hurt a bit. I paid for a gel manicure, it's been less than a week and two nails have already chipped off. In addition, upon further inspection the woman did a very bad job cleaning up my cuticles, they ended up looking dry and choppily cut. read more

Really enjoyed my experience here! :) This is a smaller nail salon but they did an incredible job on my nails. Techs took their time and payed close attention to detail. I felt relaxed and they gave me a long pedicure massage! I got dip on my nails and a regular pedicure. The chairs are not massage chairs and the water wasn't bubbling but still warm and seating was still comfortable. They took me as a walk in and were very kind. I'm new to SF and have been searching for a nail salon in my area. Will be back! :) read more

i had been looking for a nail salon that was open to walk ins last minute so i called and was gladly welcomed at the time i wanted. i arrived and was genuinely greeted by 3 employees. they were all super nice and patient, paid attention to detail and she was sure to ask if i was comfortable. loved the nails! i also got a pedicure which was also a 10/10, will definitely be back! Love this spot! They have literally everything I want in a nail salon... super clean, nice and friendly staff, never crazy busy, and hundreds of colors really nicely organized. And the price is spot on too! Amy worked with my (I'm super picky) to tweak my shape juuuuust so and get them right. Unfortunately, the application felt rushed and lacked the attention to detail I was hoping for based on reviews. My previous gel wasn't completely removed, so the new color appears different on the upper half of my nails where the old gel is still underneath. The shape and length of the nails are also inconsistent, and from the side it's easy to see that the builder gel wasn't applied evenly. There is also fuzz trapped between layers :( What made this disappointing is that I told Jennifer this appointment was a trial for my upcoming wedding, so I was really hoping for a meticulous application. That said, the overall customer service was wonderful. The massage, drink service, and snacks made for a relaxing experience, and the staff was friendly and welcoming. However, for me, the quality of the nail application is the most important part of the service, and unfortunately it didn't meet my expectations.

They only had two techs working, so they ended up handling multiple customers at once. It took a lot longer to get our nails done, and Jenny had to stay 2 hours past closing to accommodate us, but she did a fantastic job!! I had to pivot from my original design but she was really skilled and I honestly let her have full reign of the new design, but they turned out beautiful. She put a ton of detail into making sure my nails were perfect to the very last minute. FYI a gel manicure with design and gems/pearls (self provided) was $65 pre tip, which is more than they list on the site. They prefer cash but venmo is also accepted. Very peaceful vibe inside, with a restroom and water provided. They don't rush you at all which is nice :)
