    Korean shot ribs, chicken teriyaki!

Why did I wait so long to try Joy Teriyaki! I've now found my new favorite place. Yes, I did feel Joy after my first bite! The chicken was amazing, all the sauces were delicious. If only they had bubble tea.....

Newly opened in West Linn and stopped for dinner. They have an extensive menu when compared to other Terikayi outlets similar to this. I was toying between different dishes but settled for their Mongolian Chicken house special and decided on a take-out. There were three or four other patrons all deciding on take out even though I could see plenty of seating - in fact, no one was dining in at the time I swung by. The Mongolian Chicken came with two cups of steamed rice. A nice helping of chicken and various vegetables. A bit sweet (what did I expect from a teriyaki joint) for my liking but delicious nonetheless. Will be back since it's conveniently on my way home.

Chicken teriyaki with rice and salad

What you see is what you get! There's nothing fancy here. If you're craving Hawaiian style food then you'll likely be joyful after trying the teriyaki beef or chicken with rice and mac salad. The portion size of this dish is generous and the meat is juicy and very flavorful with every bite (not fatty). I've been to "Best Teriyaki" on Canyon Rd and spent $12 for grisly and bland meat, sloppy sides, and an uncleanly atmosphere. There is a difference! If you're craving teriyaki you really can't go wrong with Joy.

We started off with the Brussels sprouts which were crispy bites of flavor in your mouth. The peppers add a little heat. The sauce has a sweetness to it. Combine all three together and perfection. We ordered four rolls. A traditional spicy tuna. The tuna was not ground up tuna which I have gotten at other many places but beautiful pieces with crispy cucumber to give it more texture and a nice heat but not so overpowering you lose the flavor of the tuna. The bamboo dragon was the least favorite of the table . Too much combined together and not enough flavor all at the same time. The sunset was the prettiest looking one. I felt the heat level took away from the flavor of the fish masking it too much for me. The unicorn which I asked for no cilantro was my favorite of the evening. The combination of the fishes with the seasoning of the oil was wonderful. I didn't even need the soy sauce. I of course tried all with the soy sauce and without to ensure I tasted them all both ways. Service was friendly and we were there towards closing so despite being asked to close out our bill we were told we could sit as long as we liked to talk. Overall very fresh and flavorful.

It was basically dry, flavorless rice with soy sauce and almost nothing else in it. No egg, no peas, no green onion and barely any pork. Good pork fried rice should have diced BBQ pork, scrambled egg, green onion and vegetables throughout. It should have color and flavor and be good enough to eat as a meal by itself. This wasn't even close. The BBQ pork was dry and overcooked and didn't taste barbecued at all. It seemed more like pork cooked in an oven and dyed red on the outside. The sweet-and-sour was another disappointment: thick cornstarch-heavy sauce with only three or four pieces of pineapple. Good old-school sweet-and-sour also has things like bell pepper to give it some flavor, texture and color. Then there was the chow mein: diced white-meat chicken, celery and carrots swimming in thick cornstarch gravy, dumped over crunchy noodles that tasted like they came straight out of a plastic bag. What makes it frustrating is that I remember New Hing's being better years ago. They used to have sesame chicken wings that were a little expensive for what you got, but at least they were delicious. Those are gone now. The restaurant itself has been remodeled and looks much nicer, but I wish they had put the same effort into improving the food. After this many disappointing visits over this many years, I'm finally done giving New Hing's another chance.

Upon first bite you'll realize how different it is from traditional fried chicken, and now it is the flagship for most people's first foray into KFC ( Korean Fried Chicken). The location in Clackamas Town Center is of no exception, and their quality and speed are still up to par. It's a great casual place to have some fried chicken and snacks ( or even heavier meals) with the family or friends. Their service is like any other chain, don't expect anything stellar, but there are no complaints either. The food is consistent, fresh, hot, crunchy, and plenty of flavor no matter what you get. I recommend trying their original flavors the Spicy and Soy Garlic wings on your first venture, but if you're familiar already then dive into their more expansive menu! I haven't had a miss yet, though their specialty is definitely their wings. The rest of their menu doesn't miss, but they aren't top tier compared to dedicated Korean restaurants. I find this to be more satisfying than anything in the Clackamas food courts, so I recommend anyone who hasn't tried Bonchon to give a look!
