Delicious food. This is our go-to Chinese buffet. There is no other Chinese buffet in the city we will go to but this one. Great variety, and endless delicious Chinese food. The bbq chicken, crab Rangoon, egg drop soup, shrimp scampi, and Hawaiian chicken are some of my favorites. And this place is huge! Lots of seating, and miles of food to choose from! The new location feels so much bigger and I like how they set up the buffet to feel more spacious. It seemed like they had more seating area options for large groups. I thought our room in the back on the left was just designated for large groups but when I looked around it seemed like there were a lot of large tables. The bad thing about the location of that room. There was always a traffic jam in the narrow section when we tried to leave the room and head towards the buffet. We went over the weekend for the $28.99 seafood buffet. I usually just like to eat a few rounds of the crab legs and will try a plate of other items. Crab legs will still be the main thing I eat here when I go. We forgot to bring out own sauce but the butter was good with it. The other items are still typical buffet quality. I was iffy on the sushi section but their salmon was really good! Some of the rolls looked like they had been sitting there for a bit but it did seem like they were making new rolls. My daughter needed some broth and tried both the pork ramen and pho. We didn't really care for either one. They weren't awful, but we won't be getting it again. Service wasn't bad this time around. I'm giving this restaurant 5 stars for a Chinese buffet. I don't thing anyone expects the food to be superior quality at a buffet (compared to a non-buffet restaurant) and this was the same. That being said Joy Wok had many options and a very clean environment. We had a group of 14 and they were able to accommodate on a Friday night. We went during the seafood and I had plenty of crab legs. Also a bonus - they have a full bar! Nice option to get a Sapporo or wine as you dine. Was excited to try it again after reopening, however was extremely disappointed. Only reason I gave it 2 stars is because the food variety was good. I came with a large group Sunday for lunch. There was a lot of options and the sushi looked good however I never got to try a majority of it since they were always out of the good stuff. Service was probably the worst I've seen in awhile. We were seated in a nice room but the waiter took a long time to attend to us which is understandable for being busy but when they finally arrived to give us water, they never gave us enough cups and rudely told my friends they can't be served water unless they are at the table. I was at a separate table since our party was big and they gave us 2 waters but there were 3 adults and a child with us. We asked for more water and eventually got one but my child drank it all and I was stuck without water for my whole meal. Not sure what their issue is with giving out water. A friend opened their silverware from the napkin wrap and out came a spoon completely covered in white powder. It was disgusting and who knows what it was. My family and friends used to come here almost every week at their old location but we definitely won't be back after this experience unless they get cleaner and better service. read more

Our waiter was flirting with another waiter and they were both chatting at a booth instead of caring for tables. Yesterday was our first time going to the new Joy Wok located on Metcalf. They used to be located near Pan Asia, and the new location is now near Chosun. It's actually a 3 1/2 star rating for this place. We had made reservations for a party of 17 for 3:45pm. When walking in, you'll see the small hostess stand where you check in. There's lots of seatings. For big groups, they have a designated room in the back left corner where our party was seated. We got sat and was asked if we wanted the seafood included with our meal. Seafood was only served on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays after 4:pm. It was an extra $10 for the seafood, so making it $28.99 per person. Kids are charged by age. At first we did say yes to the seafood, but the line for the crab legs were ridiculous! Most of our party that did add seafood didn't even get a chance to enjoy any seafood that was offered. We did tell the waitress this, and she took off the seafood price for some of us that didn't even get any. The food was actually not bad for a buffet. They had a lot of varieties, fresh made sushi (located on the right side of the restaurant), someone cooking on the grill for you (you just add whatever meats and veggies you want, and they will cook it fresh for you). Some of the food trays were empty for a long time and weren't refilled like the lo mein noodles for example. There was just so many people there yesterday. I think next time if I do go back, I would come on a week day when it's not as busy. We didn't even see our waitress for the whole time except when she gave us our drinks. There was a nice guy that came to refill our drinks, and he became our server after. There is lack of staff. But overall, decent buffet place. Only reviewing this for the weekend dinner prices. Went around 6:30PM and didn't get seated until 7:30PM. For some reason it was super packed, you see all kinds of people leaving and going in big groups. It was just three of us for the night. We were seated all the way in the back, table was just cleaned but still felt icky. Floor was carpet in the room they say us, but who thought it was a good idea to have carpet for a buffet! Granted the place is bigger, spacious and more varieties. Sushi bar, Pho Station, Hibachi and more food options. Of course, if we are going for the weekend dinner, we had to tried the crab legs. I was so excited to tried this new location and place out with my family. Crab legs were overcooked a bit, hard to take out the meat from the shell. The crab stir fry with ginger was way overcook, it was messy from the sauce. The seafood boil was a nice touch and good. Sushi was fresh and tasty for buffet style. I love the raw! Overall, the food was good. The restroom were so nasty, poop on toilet, paper towels ran out, and it was just a mess. Hopefully, they can have someone to clean it or check it regularly. Food was decent. I went on a Friday night for the crab legs. I had to wait for five minutes every time I wanted more. Then when I asked for a bit more the fella acted like I kicked over the table and he first tried to refuse me then he slammed one cluster dow on my plate. I had to get more than one of my drinks which was fine but then the waitress who had been absent for over 10 minutes came up to the table and said if I want drink, I tell her. She was quick to drop the check off when it was time and even quicker to show me where to tip. I did tip well but I'll never go back. They use dye on their sushi. Saw it with my own two eyes. I went with my birthday with my family, it turned out to be the grand opening. The service was great it was packed, they had delicious food and everything, they had a great variety of choices. They even had handmade ramen and pho. I returned a few months after the grand opening. It was a disappointment to see how much a of a downgrade they had made. The food was alright I guess, they would take a long time to put new food out. The ramen wasn't hand made anymore, it wasn't even ramen. They used spaghetti noodles for the ramen. First time to their new location - definitely my new favorite Asian cuisine buffet in KC! So good I went there twice in one week, haha. I love buffets. I love Asian food. This place makes for a win-win. They're definitely a more pricey buffet, but the options are worth it. We like the sushi bar - so many good options and lots of sashimi! It feels like a more upscale buffet, it's very clean and bright, and the service is great. I went at two different times of the day, a Monday and a Thursday. The food is always fresh, even on the off-hour. They have a LOT of food options, and the weekend offers even more choices. This buffet competes with Legends of Asia in Blue Springs, but this one is closer so it is a better choice for me. The salad bar looks good, but I have not tried it bc the other more greasy options just spoke to my stomach more. But I'm sure it is just as good. They also have a bar, so try the Sapporo if you haven't. Go eat there and be filled. read more

We went just after they had opened in Sept or Oct and it was fine. Now, you would never guess it has only been open for 5 months. It is disgusting! I wish I had taken pictures. There was a broom and dust pan resting on the ice bins (also on the ground). The carpet was trashed and there was food/liquid splattered all over the walls. They set buckets on the tables (for trash) that look like they have never been cleaned with food stuck to the sides and are all rusted at the bottle. Lunch on the weekend is usually $15.99, but I guess since it's New Years, they doubled the price. Also, the kids prices had doubled since we were there a couple months ago. To pay close to $100 for my family of 4 to eat, I definitely feel it's over priced and lacking sanitation. In addition, my son threw up on the way home and has been throwing up since. The place is just dirty. There is always trash on the floors. Sushi was really bad. Stale rice, fish had a smell. It might have been out for a long time. Everything else is very poor quality food. The table was cleaned with some type of super dirty looking rug when we sat down. How many tables did they clean before with that thing? What else did they clean with it? Food was alright however wouldn't choose to come here again. For 2 people just for the regular buffet and 2 lemonades was 45$. Waiter was werid ass hell, she just kept staring into the room we were in with other people. Host didn't even ask us what buffet we wanted and then the waiter gave us a check for 80$. I told her we just got the regular buffet and she went ahead and changed it however it was still expensive. We didn't tip because we thought it would only be around 35$. When she came to get the check she stood there for a moment and then proceeded to say, "You forgot the tip line". Like bro, why the hell are you asking people for tips. I have never had a waiter ask me that and check the tip infront of the customers. The service is terrible, the food is mid. Would not recommend.
