So happy we found this place! It was our 2nd choice being that the other place was closed on Monday. We called in our order. The lady on the other end was pleasant; repeating my order back to me, and thanking me for ordering. My husband ordered the American Breakfast (eggs bacon hashbrowns and toast) with a side of french toast. I had the Italian omelet that comes with home fries and toast. We also ordered 2 large orange juices. The food was delicious and flavorful. My omelet had sausage, feta ...ugh I can't even remember but it was perfect. Everything was packed perfectly with an adequate amount of condiments including; salt, pepper, jelly (grape and strawberry), ketchup, butter and cultlery. Great service, great food, awesome price! Whenever we are in town this will be our breakfast spot. There is parking but the lot isn't huge. Give or take there is about 12 spots that is shared with other establishments. Our go to breakfast place Tuesday mornings before grocery shopping. Super cheap breakfast specials before 8 AM. Even after 8 easily under $20 for two including coffees. Decor is out of the 70s but basic egg breakfasts have stayed the same since then too so it works. Keep meaning to go back later some day for their Mexican food which also gets raves. I found this place on yelp, what a find!! They still serve breakfast at 1230pm, which I was happy about. From the outside, you can't tell how great the food is. I was extremely happy with the taste of Mexican cooking and the extremely polite service, my girlfriend kept it simple with bacon and eggs, but she added a bit of salsa verde, wow!! To die for! Great selection for any meal, super tasty hole in the wall you almost missed while driving to the casino. Spanish egg casserole with corn cakes was super good! The huevos rancheros is really good, we had it with sausage, and added avocado and pico de gallo. Will deffinetly put this into rotation for breakfast. But, they do lunch and dinner as well. I thought we would try this spot because it had really good reviews. After trying it I didn't understand why it received such good ratings. The place was packed and it had a hole in the wall vibe. I do enjoy some mom and pop places but this isn't one of them. The service was terrible someone took my order and only saw them once and they never stopped to refill my coffee the entire time we were there. I ordered Mexican eggs with beans and rice. The peppers and onions in my eggs were cold and not cooked at all. The beans were like soup and cold. I also ordered a pancake and it was so tough I could barely cut it. We had to ask for the check after waiting forever and then was over charged for the disgusting food we had. Located very close to Mohegan Sun, this little diner is located off Route 32. Don't be intimidated when you walk in. There's a Mexican man who buses the tables and slams the mugs on the table. No personality. He does talk though:-) We came for breakfast and found it difficult to choose what we wanted. We came here for breakfast on our way to Sprague to pick up a package of bees. Mrs. R perused the menu for a sec, looks at me and says, "You're in heaven, aren't you?" Yes, Mrs. R, yes I was. Where do I start? The poor waitress had to come back three times and I still changed my order after she'd already written it down. While "One of everything, please." would have been best, I had to narrow it down, unfortunately, to just one thing. Mrs. R. had Eggs Florentine and surprise, surprise: real poached eggs. I've said on other reviews it's hard to find a kitchen where the chef knows how to make a real poached egg and when you find one, cherish it. These were the real deal and told me the kitchen really knows what it's doing. After hemming and hawing, I settled on Huevos Rancheros. There was nothing wrong with this dish. It was perfect. Every single aspect of it. The beans, the rice, the fried tortillas, the ham. I dreamed that night I was back at Joy's eating Huevos Rancheros again and was so disappointed when I woke up and didn't have Huevos Rancheros in front of me. I suppose if I had quibbles with Joy's, one would be the coffee cups were too small The waitress kept them full, but the coffee was good and somehow kept disappearing. But when I saw the menu I could tell ( I hoped) I had stumbled upon real Mexican tacos ( fresh corn, fresh grilled meats, onions and cilantro and NO CHEESE OR LETTUCE). I didn't care that it was 9:30 in the morning. I had some coffee and scrambled eggs to not look like a weirdo. The corn tortillas were fresh and warmed on the grill so they tasted like corn. Loved Joy's. Breakfast was enormous! Nicely cooked. I had Mexican scrambled eggs, home fries and toast. The home fries were hot and crispy. I didn't get my waitress's name but she was so sweet and attentive refilled my coffee a few times without my having to call her over. My partner had the biggest pancakes we have ever seen. The food is actually very good here. I've been several times, but I have been turned off recently after asking for a food item without onions and when I received the food item, it was covered in minced onions. I told the server that I asked for no onions and I would like it to be remade. Personally I don't think this is that big of an issue many restaurants will do this for you if you did in fact ask for something not received, and the server told me that she would not do that for me, and told me to "pick them off" instead. Icing on the cake, I drank my water as soon as it was brought to me, not once was I offered a refill. This is the most delightful hidden gem in town! The food is amazing, to the point that I'd like to explore their menu more, but their French toast just keeps sucking me back in! My partner adores huevos rancheros, but has been a bit disappointed by every version he's had since moving to New England UNTIL! Joy's. He had it 6 days ago and still can't stop talking about it. The menu looks perfectly ordinary, just a blend of diner standards and Mexican favorites, but it's all JUST SO GOOD! Also the folk who work there are thoroughly delightful and the place is very very clean. Also, they have Jarritos sodas in glass bottles, how awesome is that? This sounds entirely lame to say, but after like my 3rd visit, the waitress remembered that I like hot tea, and I very nearly cried over that little, familiar niceness. It's been a long pandemic. But I tell you, if we have to go back into lockdown with this delta variant business, I will be getting takeout from Joy's instead of having something delivered. read more

We got a late start leaving the casino & still wanted breakfast. We picked Joy's because of the good reviews... What a horrible excuse for a restaurant... I gave them 1 star because you had to rate to comment but they DO NOT EVEN DESERVE ONE STAR.... their wait staff doesn't speak English so they must guess at your order & when you tell them it's completely wrong they just smile & say OK! OK! & walk away!! We started by ordering water with no lemon... she brought us 2 waters WITH lemon... when we told her that was wrong, she only replaced 1 water... My bf ordered the American Breakfast... simple 2 eggs, scrambled, bacon, white toast & french fries instead of home fries.... easy enough... he also ordered a grilled cheese sandwich to be brought with his meal.... complicated I know... I ordered the American Breakfast, 2 eggs over, hash browns super well done (I even said, "when you think they a burned, put them back on the grill & burn them some more")... rye toast, no meat.... We also ordered 1 pancake.... My bf's grilled cheese arrived... with my full breakfast which arrived with home fries that were barely cooked & white toast... normally I just go with it... it's just breakfast.... the pancake also arrived at that time... she dropped it all & walked away, we figured to pick up the rest of his breakfast.. In the meantime, I was buttering my pancake and there was hair on the butter packets... I should have just stopped there but didn't. We also had to share our creamers with the table next door who ordered coffee but had no creamers... 10 mins later, after he was finished eating his grilled cheese, & my breakfast was cold waiting for his... his eggs finally showed up... his 2 egg portion looked more like 1/2 egg portion... when she brought his breakfast, that was my first attempt at telling her my breakfast was wrong... she smiled said OK! & walked away. When he was almost done with eggs & fries.. she finally brought his toast... I thought she said, rye toast as she put it down... I said "Oh rye toast?" Thinking she just mixed them up.... she said "no that's white, you ordered rye." I said, "exactly! But I got white, I also asked for burned home fries, I didn't get that either." Granted I didn't say it mean so she had no idea I was not happy because SHE DOESN'T SPEAK ENGLISH" She said, "Ok, you want me to take it away?".... wouldn't the fact that it was untouched be a universal sign that it was undesirable??? So I chuckled & asked, did you even hear what I said... she said, yes but I don't understand English.... we just laughed & said that explains it... So we go to the register to complain to the person in charge of money figuring they can at least speak English enough to count, add etc... so we tell her our tale & explain we are NOT paying for my $5 breakfast... which, normally, I really would have just paid for it because it's not worth the hassle of complaining but now it's become a principle... so the waitress came over & told us & the other employee there is no charge for the grilled cheese because the fries took so long... so our entire bill should have been $7 but neither one of them could figure out the bill, the mistakes or what we were paying for so it ended up $9 & change it was worth the extra $2 to just get out of there... As we sat there with our meals in front of us, different staff members came out to sit with different customers which explains how they received so many decent comments, they are all friends and family doing them a favor.... *Perfect place after a night at Mohegan* After dancing and drinking the night away, my friend said she needed breakfast. I looked in the area & thank goodness this place came up. Google maps made us pass it 3 times, but we finally made it. When I walked into Joys, it looked like an "old school" luncheonette. The angels started singing :) I looked at the specials board and they had a cheeseburger omelet. I was in love with this place. I opened the menu & saw my name next to all the breakfast creations. I ordered the sausage pepper, onion, tomato, parmesan, provolone, egg white omelet no mushrooms. My friend ordered something similar but all put together and served with a corn muffin. It didn't take too long to come out & looked delicious. I went in for the potatoes first. AMAZING! Omelet- AMAZING. I stole 1/2 of my friends corn muffin and I think I proposed marriage to it. It was soooooooo good! I thought about moving in there and never going back home, but then I would probably put on about 50 lbs. If you stay near Mohegan, you must must must come here and have breakfast! read more

As far as breakfast spots are concerned i love this little greasy spoon hole in the wall. Typical breakfast " bacon , egg , swiss cheese , toast home fries & coffee for me. The wide had pretty much the same with sausage , hot chocolate , tomato juice. $23.00 and the breakfast was worth every penny. Service is service they are efficient and do not say much just like i like it. Food came out fast and fresh. Server checked on us a couple of times and that's all we needed. Ask for our bill we paid and were on our way to catch the ferry. Which we made on time. Again if you want a good , fast cheap breakfast. And if your not interested in being pampered this is the place to be. I love that they have a refrigerator right in the middle of the counter ( classic ). P.S. If you have ever read any of my Breakfast reviews i rate all my Breakfast spots on their Bacon. Joys had some good bacon and some good toast. My family goes to Joys 2-5 times a month, typically for breakfast or dinner. They have the usual American / 'Mexican' cuisine. Nothing very unique or exciting, but it's still a good place to eat for some simple food. It's styled like a diner, that is to say, don't expect the the food to be _outstanding_ but if you're looking for a casual, family-friendly place to eat, I recommend it. The restaurant is family owned. Week nights are usually slow. Most of the time when we go at night there are only a couple of tables used (sometimes none). Saturday and Sunday mornings you have to wait in line. I've never been for lunch so I can't speak for that. Waitstaff is very nice and remember you. I see there is one very negative review especially regarding the waitstaff. I have never had a problem with communication at Joy's. Not sure what it was like on the day said reviewer went; it sounds like it was a busy morning and who knows what else was going on. Possibly they had someone filling in for another waitress? My guess about with the money is that someone on the kitchen staff came out to help for a moment and I will admit that most of the guys in the kitchen do not speak the best English. On the other hand: this is a Spanish friendly restaurant. I hate to just reply to someone's review, but I feel the need to defend Joy's a bit. They do not use egg beaters/whites by default. So the egg portions are small if you get just plain eggs. Omelettes on the other hand are rather large, especially if you get one of the stuffed ones. They also do not bring lemon out with the water usually unless you request it. Anyway. I love the Mexican offerings. The flautas and tostadas are amazing. Tacos are always good. My stepdad enjoys the burritos. My mother an I are both gluten free. Joy's is not celiac friendly, but if cross contamination is not a major issue, they are fine. If I get something that usually comes with toast I just ask for soft corn tortillas. Fun trick I do: I get eggs, sausage links (or bacon), home fries, and the tortillas. Wrap the eggs, meat, and potatoes in the tortilla, season to taste and enjoy! Dinner specials change throughout the week. They have a delicious pork dish once in awhile. I think the biggest thing to remember is that the 'American cuisine' is very typical. That includes the 'American'-Italian and such. Don't go expecting it to be something it's not.
