The food is excellent today is taco Tuesday here at Johnny's clam shack, famous seafood. I have gotten two chicken tacos with all the dressings and an order of french fries Jon. The owner and chef is amazing. Great food great service and absolutely great music stop by and visit Johnny's clam shack Norwich, Connecticut

I love seafood so you don't have to convince me to give this place a try. So glad we did because the food was awesome! Due to covid, order ahead and pick-up. It's a shack with a small kitchen so obviously it's going to take some time to make the food. They text you when your order is ready so plan accordingly if you're driving to pick up so you don't have to wait long. Don't be mean about waiting around if you show up and order on the spot. Their lobster roll is freaking amazing because it's served in a generous amount of warm butter and lobster meat. The meat was so juicy and sweet. The scallops were fresh and sweet. The clam bellies were a bit tough (the strip part) but still good and honestly Johnny's was one of the few places that even had whole clam bellies. The clam chowder was ok, not as thick and creamy as I would like but overall, everything was still delicious. This New England area is no joke when it comes to seafood. Amazingly fresh! Must try!

Great seafood shack in Norwich! Small space - packs the punch! Order ahead - Park - and pick up! They will text you when your food is ready. So appreciative of these small business owners staying open and feeding us (visitors, locals, passerby, Yelpers alike)! In - times - of COVID. Let's talk seafood: $$$ Lobster rolls (2x), Whole clam bellies, Fresh scallops, New England clam chowder. Seriously, all the seafood has been so freaking fresh in this area of Connecticut... OMG. Must get - warm lobster rolls, sweet & juicy! The melted butter adds an extra layer of deliciousness. The scallops were so fresh and sweet... definitely try! The whole bellies were a bit tough but overall, still yummy. Heard it wasn't a good harvest this year... so I already feel lucky that Johnny's Clam Shack has it available! The clam chowder was ok, would have liked it to be creamier. You really can't go wrong. When in Norwich, must drop by!

Hot -fresh- and fast - coleslaw good - fresh lemons and French fries were hand cut - definitely recommended - nice shelter to sit inside or they bring your food right over to your car ! Bravo Johnny's bravo -oh and the lobster bisque had nice fresh chunks of lobster not just cream - real lobster chunks

Very unassuming little shack in a very unpretentious neighborhood. This is the definition of a hidden gem. There is a open air covering that you can sit under and picnic tables. Almost all the menu items are fried .. with the exception of the lobster roll and soups. We tried the New England clam chowder with fritters. The chowder was creamy and delicious. There wasn't many clams in the fritters but the flavor was still good. The fried sea scallops were good size and perfectly battered. I enjoyed the fried fish in my fish tacos and the cilantro sour cream that comes with the tacos. Overall a very yummy experience. I will be sad when they close for the winter.

This was the worst lobster roll I have ever had. The roll was saturated and swimming in butter. Ridiculously over priced.

The haddock was very good and creamy, as well as the scallops and shrimp. However we noticed a lack of flavor on the fish for our tastes.

The service was okay while the food came out in a timely manner. I liked that some of the fish items listed the fishing vessel on the menu. Three appetizers were ordered which consisted of a beet pickled deviled egg ($4 each), chilled oysters (Half Dozen $18), and the local fluke crudo ($17). The egg had a crispy clam strip and espelette pepper. This was solid. I thought the clam strip was a little too overpowerful given the size of that and the egg. The pickled beet egg was interesting, and I liked how the filling was also under the egg, so the egg did not move. The Riverhawk oysters were fresh and tasty. The mignonette was simple and paired well. The crudo had an herb mayo, pickled ramps, kelp crisp, and pickled sugar kelp. This was alright. It seemed like fennel or a similar type of herb was used in one of the pickling items, which took over a little bit. The kelp crisp was nice and paired well with the fluke. For an entrée, I had the local scup a la plancha ($37). It came with Marshall Cove mussels, fondant potato, English peas, and a saffron emulsion. This was a nice sized portion. I thought the saffron emulsion was key and went together with everything else on the plate. The mussels were fresh again, and the potatoes were cooked perfectly. It was a well-done dish, but the use of scup made it feel more modest, but maybe that was the point, so what do I know? I also tried the scallop dish that came with green crab crispy rice, chili crispy, and a garlic aioli. The rice was very crispy, and it reminded me of a traditional hibachi rice, but elevated. The scallops had a perfect cook to them too. For dessert, the oyster ice cream ($10) was tried. It had to be tasted when it was on the menu. It had a slight briny flavor, but nothing too overpowerful. The ice cream itself was very creamy with a nice texture. I believe Greek yogurt was used, which probably helped with the oyster flavor that was incorporated. Will I go back? Sure.

I really liked the ambiance of the space, it's quite comfortable and has a nautical aesthetic. We were sat in a cozy little corner by the window, a great spot for watching the bustling of the little seaside town. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable of the restaurant's offerings, noting in their introduction that the focus of the menu is on fresh local seafood, and that everything on the menu is freshly made in house. I was very eager to try a cup of the clam chowder for an appetizer since many other reviewers have said that it's some of the best they've ever tasted, and after trying it for myself I'm more than inclined to agree with them; it had a perfect consistency and excellent flavor. Boyfriend wanted the fried mozzarella so we got some of that, and that was pretty tasty as well. Boyfriend got the chicken parm sandwich for his meal and I got the fish and chips. I didn't end up trying the sandwich, but he said he liked it. My fish and chips plate was pretty good; the fish tasted just a tad under seasoned to me, however the flavorful tartar sauce helped with that and I could tell the fish itself was great quality. The hand cut fries were good, but I wasn't really a fan of the coleslaw. Overall we had a pleasant experience at The Mariner. A very good choice for fresh seafood and a relaxed vibe. I'm sure I'll be in town again at some point; if I come back to The Mariner, I'll make a point to get a bowl of the clam chowder instead of a cup, because that alone is absolutely worth returning for... but until then, I'll be dreaming about it.

The menu offers everything from soups and salads to scallop meals and sandwiches. Extremely well priced. There are about a dozen tables and a few high tops as well as a bar for seating. Parking is across the street. The staff is extremely friendly and attentive. I wish they had brewed iced tea, but they said it only comes from the fountain. Ick! Ordered a bowl of clam chowder soup. Very creamy and good flavor. The clams seem to be gritty. Probably could use a good rinse before they are cooked. But overall, the flavor and consistency our clams and potatoes with each bite was nice. Ordered the cod sandwich with onion rings. The cod sandwich is quite large. Served on a brioche bun with tomatoes and lettuce and a lemon wedge It was served piping hot. The fish, although large and presentation was nice, it lacked flavor. The batter was not completely cooked toward the meat of the fish. You get your choice of side and we had onion rings. They were standard side, but cooked to perfection. Overall, I was pleased with this restaurant. I would give the ambience a five out of five, the weight staff service was five out of five and the food would be a solid four. I would definitely come back to this restaurant.

Even though the name (Kawa) and menu have changed a bit over time, the heart of this place has never changed--and that's what keeps us coming back. One thing that truly stands out is that this is a family‑owned restaurant, and you can feel the care, pride, and love they put into their food and service. It adds a level of warmth and authenticity that you just don't get everywhere. Our group ordered a wide range of dishes, and not a single plate was left with food on it. Several guests tried the special fried rice, while one had the chicken fried rice. Everyone loved their meals so much that I even ordered an extra fried rice to take home. We also enjoyed a great selection of sushi, including a few rolls we had never tried before. Their sushi roll prices are the best in the area, yet the quality remains consistently excellent. The sashimi we ordered was fresh, beautifully presented, and did not disappoint. One guest ordered the noodles with shrimp and said it was the best they'd ever had. To top it off, the restaurant has a surprisingly wide variety of Asian beers at very reasonable prices. The beers we tried were a big hit with the group and paired perfectly with the food. The service was another highlight of the night. Our waiter was wonderful--attentive, friendly, patient, and on top of everything our large party needed. Managing a group of 14 isn't easy, but he handled it flawlessly and made us feel well cared for. My fiancé asked him a lot of questions on some of dishes and he was very knowledgeable. After more than a decade of visiting, this birthday dinner reminded me exactly why this place has remained one of our family favorites. Delicious food, great prices, warm service, and the heart of a family‑owned business that truly values what they do. Highly recommend for both special occasions and everyday meals. The regular menu looked creative and appetizing as well. I had their daily oyster ($1.50 each), mussels ($10), and their cutie smash burger ($9). The oysters were from sixpenny on the day I attended. They were fresh and went down smoothly. The mignonette that was served with it was interesting. It seemed to have some sort of orange juice incorporated, but who knows. It was not bad. I preferred the cocktail sauce and horseradish provided. The mussels came in a coconut lemongrass broth with chili, cilantro, and lime. These were some of the freshest mussels I had in a while. It was noticeable to me from the feel and taste. The coconut lemongrass broth was a nice compliment and very flavorful. The burger was a quarter pound smash patty with cheddar cheese, umami mayo, lettuce, pickles, and white onion. This was cooked ideally to a medium-medium rare temperature. The bread was the key as it held the toppings and was of good ratio. The pickle was nicely folded and placed where it was not hanging off the burger. It was a little sweet, but not a big deal. Will I go back? Definitely.
