This local, family owned comedy club in Gilbert is our "go to" for a fun date night that's not too far from home. I love that we usually get to see at least 5 comedians during the 90 minute show time and the majority of them have been hilarious. Comedians are funny and talented. Especially combining humor and improv song on piano at the end of the set to include the audience participation. How incredible is that?! I love the variety because I know I can go regularly like once a month and not hear the same jokes every time! Locally owned, can't beat that. Excellent table service. Came here tonight because my coworker got free tickets and she didn't want to let them go to waste. My fiancé and I had never been here and didn't know this place existed. He had never seen live comedy before so I forced him out of his little shell and told him we were going. He had such a blast and we both laughed our asses off. I am very sad to leave a negative review on a small family owned business. Let's start with a few positives- Rob was quite funny and saved my night. JP himself had a couple good jokes and I respect what he is doing by trying to bring comedy to Gilbert & owning a club that is family owned and operated. Drinks are a bit pricey but we got free tickets and they need to make money where they can so I think overall it was a good deal. Coming in the staff was very nice. Now for the more extensive bad parts of the night. If you are young, lgbtq+, or a minority I do NOT recommend coming here. Jokes are catered to older generations who get a kick out of being offensive just for the sake of being offensive. I found myself consistently cringing. I hate leave a review that could hurt this family's income but this was my first comedy show and I was wildly underwhelmed and dissatisfied. My friends were interacting with the comedians (admittedly drunkenly) and were told they had to stop, which is fine, if the owners don't want people shouting out- I completely respect that. However when the lady in front of me loudly made an openly racist comment about asian people and nothing was said to her I was very very disappointed. The other comedians just didn't really have good jokes IMO, more vetting is needed for who they employ for the shows. I hope for the sake of their business that JPs comedy club takes this review into consideration (and with a grain of salt being as I am 1 person). I did my best to enjoy my night there and it wasn't a complete loss but I cannot say I will be back or that I would ever recommend this place to anyone I know. read more

I purchased 7 tickets for The Midlife Crisis Comedy show at JP's Comedy Club for the 7pm show last night, August 8th. When I arrived 4 of my party were waiting outside of the club, we told the staff we were waiting for our other 3. I was told at that time they were sold out and I would need my tickets to the show from the third party site they use. I was told it should be in my email. I am 70 years old and pulled up my email and began to search for my tickets to no avail. I was told they can't look the tickets up from their end as it is really difficult. I am searching frantically for tickets in email, spam and trash. While I am searching the owner comes out and tells me multiple time if I didn't have tickets at Chase field I would not be admitted. I said to Him, please don't placate me...he then told me I am trying to help you, f-you, get off my property and went inside. He said this in front of my family, other customers in line and the children's ballet class that was just getting out of their class. Ext door.I asked for a refund as I followed him into his club and he yelled at me in front of all the patrons to get the f-out of his club, I then walked out the door. We were all so in shock and trying to understand why he was going off on me and my party, and he called the police on us. I told him we were retired from two police departments and he said so am I. I was so shaken up, he went inside and got $140.00 and came out and shoved it in my hands. He again told us to get off his property. As we were leaving a black truck pulled in and hit a Tesla that was parked in front of the club. We told the owner one of his patrons cars was just hit by the black truck, he said great that's my car! I have no idea what set Jim Perry, the owner off, but I have never been thrown out of an establishment nor have I been treated so unfairly, nor have I been embarrassed in front of my family, I am an old lady who just wanted to go support a local business. I will not return. He is supposedly a community leader that is so loving and generous. I believe he needs help. JP's Comedy Club is not a professionally run business. The language alone was insulting and their ticketing system is lacking! Stay away from this business, if this is how he treats a 70 year old Nana and 6 of her family members, I can only imagine how he handles a problem! read more

Like to respond to Joni B review. My wife sister-in-law and I witnessed the incident. We where behind that group and heard the women complain about the heat to the owner's wife in an inappropriate way. The owner's wife was very nice and politely asked that couple to please wait outside for a few minutes while she was taking care of the other guests in line. Our family has been to the comedy club many times and have nothing but great things to say about the owner and his wife. read more

On a vacation from Florida, I was looking for an open mic to hit up during my stay. Knowing absolutely NOTHING about the comedy scene in the valley or the mics therein, I eventually narrowed my options down to JP's. This club is family owned and JP himself, who went up and did a set during the 7:00 show, was absolutely hilarious. This 7:00 show featured several seasoned local performers with excellent jokes and stage presence, and the woman working the floor during made sure everyone in attendance had all the drinks they needed. Immediately following their 7:00 show, the open mic began. They clearly are a well oiled machine here at JP's as the host effortlessly rolled through a decent list of signups, keeping things on track and well-paced (a lot open mics have a tendency to drag on and on, slugging through their comics, but not JP's!). I felt very welcomed to the stage once my time to perform came, and the crowd watching was incredibly supportive and engaged. It's a shame I'm not a local, because I would hands-down make JP's a regular spot to attend and work on my craft. Support family businesses, especially ones that are on their game!! read more

We've gone a couple of times to JP's and it's been so much fun. You're welcomed in when you first get there by JP and his wife. You buy your drinks before the show starts and are given tokens for the additional drinks and in the two hours of comedy, you've had a great time. It's always clean and everyone seems to be happy. I would love to give Jp's 10 stars! Wow! So well organized, so friendly, so efficient and so clean! I think it is my favorite place to perform comedy! I invited 23 friends, who had never been to JP's, and they all had so much fun! Every single one that came said that they wanted to come back to JP's very very soon! I have to agree, it is a great night out! Everyone in the audience could SEE and HEAR! The sound system is awesome and so clear. The lighting was perfect. I felt very welcome the entire time that I performed here. I will always ask tons of people, because I KNOW the people I bring will have a great time! JP's Comedy Club is a gem in Gilberts entertainment scene. The owner took a risk opening during the pandemic, but has remained successful with sellout shows almost every weekend.
