No work has been done to it in the 18 years of ownership (we're the original owners) and it badly needed some upgrades and updates. Asked santiago and team to perform a large job redoing my apartment after it was flooded. They were very sloppy with the baseboard. I had to have them redo several sections. they didnt install the baseboard behind the vanity. They left my main power outlet for the primary tv broken. All door and bedroom hardware was painted over. My front door cracks due to paint sticking every time i open it. I had them remove a tub and install a walk in shower. I had them come back and redo the leveling 3x and it still wont drain correctly. I have a puddle in my shower every time the shower is run. They also installed the shower doors up against the new tile wall and guess what??? The top was up against the wall and because houses settle/move the $1k shower door is now chipping. Never again. read more

I'm writing this review 6 weeks after I had JR Improvements do several home updates to a home I purchased in July which included vinyl plank install upstairs and downstairs, replacing baseboards, new carpet in bedrooms, installing a door frame and new door, installing some can lights, and refinishing the banister. I wanted to wait until the newness and excitement of moving into a new house and doing some updates wore off and I could be more objective. I think the vinyl plank looks good overall. The can lights look very good. The new door looks mostly good except one area. Carpet looks very good except one issue I have in one of the small bedrooms. While I think JR did a good job overall I now find several areas where there was a lack of attention to detail and it seems like going quick was more important than doing it 'right' in my opinion. So if you are someone who really values excellent finish work, they may not be right for you. Also I had them come back out to address some issues with hand rail/banister and it doesn't look much better after they spent several hours trying to correct the issues. I have a feeling that they aren't as skilled at doing some types of remodeling as others. Here are my main issues from someone like me who is detail oriented. - base of the door frame on one side doesn't come even with the floor. There a large gap. Instead of redoing/recutting this piece this they left it as is. - edges of baseboards where they are visible were 'finished' by cutting a 45 degree piece already primed instead of just cutting the baseboard at a normal 90 degrees and taking the time to manually prime and paint. It's not a clean look. - big lump under the carpet in the middle of one of the rooms. The carpet layers had to notice this but I have a feeling they hoped nobody would notice. In their defense I had ordered barely enough carpet for the project but this seems like something they could have addressed. - lots of visible pin nail holes in the rubber baseboard segments used. These didn't exist in the previous pieces removed. - no calking or sealant used between the edges of the vinyl plank and the walls, toe kick, cabinets, etc. In sum I wouldn't have issues with using JR Improvements for some types of remodeling work but I do think there are some areas where they trade quality for speed. read more

He gave us our options and gave us an estimate that evening. He gave us his availability, we set an appointment, and he showed up on time (a rarity these days) with all of the materials ready. They finished the job in less time than they estimated and for the cost they estimated, and left the work area (in the garage) cleaner than it was when he got there. We had to close off a wall and open a new door in the hallway to create a separate bedroom out a sitting area from the master. We contacted 5 contractors through Yelp but Santiago was the only one of the 2 that showed up for a quote. One heck of a handyman. it took less than 2 days to put up a wall, install 2 new ceiling fans indoors, and outdoors. We called him about installing a 30 amp outlet outside our home so we could plug in our RV to charge. He arrived very quickly and provided an estimate and was able to do the work first thing the next morning. We found his price to be reasonable and the new outlet looks professionally done. I had a couple of chandeliers I needed hung as well as a television that I need hung on the wall with the cords hidden. Santiago showed up promptly at the appointment time he gave me. I showed him what I wanted done and I also added two fireplaces to be put on the wall. His attitude was very positive and he had great energy. After hanging the chandeliers, he offered to help me clean up the area and put the furniture back in its place. He was very efficient and completed the work in a timely manner. My husband was installing an outdoor ceiling fan and had misplaced the instructions. Santiago answered some questions he had and also offered his assistance. He hung the television and it looks very clean and sleek. The fireplaces look amazing!! He also placed electrical outlets behind the television and one of the fireplaces to ensure concealment of the cords. I am very pleased with his work. He did an absolute fantastic job!!
