Bird of Paradise today, growing beautifully and giving my yard that tropical feel!
    Gloria H.

I contacted JR Landscape after seeing their work vehicles around my area. I was in need of some work to better my yard. I spoke with Jaime on the phone, he was very polite and quick to come out and look at my yard! He had great ideas and suggestions for my planter next to a gazebo, he and his crew did a great job, were clean and timely. It's been a little over a year now and I am satisfied with the way the Bird of Paradise and pebbles along with the irrigation have looked and worked over time! I will be needing more work in the near future and will be sure to contact them ! Highly recommend! Thank you Jaime!

The DG was installed so thinly and not compacted into a solid surface. As soon as it rained, it all washed away.

This landscaping company was recommended by our family friend, who is a landscaping architect for the city. We hired them to do a total of three projects, two of which they basically outsourced to subcontractors who specialized in those areas. We had pavers and concrete installed (by the subcontractors), which was done fairly well, albeit a bit expensive. We then had metal gates installed (also by a different subcontractor); this was not done well at all and also expensive. The gates were fabricated too short, making it easy to reach over and unlock the gate. They also started rusting a few weeks after installation. However, the most egregious project they did for us was the ground-covering and irrigation. In order to install the Decomposed Granite (DG for short), which we wanted, most landscapers would have prepared the areas by clearing and grading the soil to direct water flow. These guys cleared off the top half inch of soil that had weeds and completed skipped the grading. The next part was actually installing the DG. The manufacturers, retailers, and most industry professionals who have spoken have said that this material must be installed at a minimum of three inches thick. For our yard, you'd be hard pressed to find a spot they installed it thicker than one inch. This makes it so that the DG can not form a solid stable surface and is akin to sand (not what we wanted). Not to mention, the irrigation was done completely incorrectly. They hooked up fruit trees (high water usage), roses (high water usage), succulents (low water usage), and desert plants (low water usage) on the same irrigation valves. They didn't split up the irrigation based on what was necessary; instead, based on what would be easiest to install. And most of all, this company is not trustworthy. Their invoices were full of discrepancies that once we took a while to investigate, made a few thousand dollars of differences. They tried to charge us $85 for a 1 gal plant they paid $6 and lied saying it was a 5 gal plant. They charged us for 2 pallets of flagstones when they only brought back 1 pallet of flagstone (and I watched them unload and installed it). The amount of lies that they spin is too much to fit in one review as they lie, so naturally, it is like breathing for them.

Got quotes from 8 different landscapers, and JR was the most knowledgeable and thorough in their proposal. Price point was good across the board as well, as we had a lot of different work to be done. Large installations of decomposed granite and gravel, a full drip system, pavers and plants installed. Our dead lawn was also tilled and the whole yard graded. The work was completed shockingly quickly over the course of a few days. Super responsive (and patient) through the whole process, and immensely helpful in aspects of design, as we were first time homeowners and only had vague ideas of what we wanted to do. Pretty obvious from the pictures, but the results were beautiful (we have had a ton of neighbors and acquaintances ask for their contact information).

I did not end up utilizing Grow Control for the final bid. However, if anyone is thinking of Grow…read moreand Control, do give them a chance as Jesus had been nothing but professional during our entire interaction. Prompt followup, prompt responses, no pressure. If it was in my budget, I really would have given them a chance on their professionalism alone. I didn't have to 'chase' responses. They came timely. Not overwhelming. They have a very comprehensive price breakdown and payment schedule, so payment isn't all upfront but in increments as the job is completed. Even declining they remained professional. Thank you again Jesus for your patience! I wish you and your company success for the excellent customer service.

Already time for another update wow! We've been with the awesome team at Grow Control 3 years now…read moreand I just can't say enough good things about them! Krystal, Jesus, and all their staff really provide professional, quality service and care for our yard and irrigation needs. We initially got started with them for a total clear out and clean up of our existing landscape and ended up sticking with them for weekly maintenance services and little projects here and there and have never looked back! Anytime there are issues, they are on it!! Today was another example - I asked Steve if he would just check up on my back sprinklers bc I noticed they didn't run Monday and when he did, he found a HUGE leak in one of our main irrigation pipes! Our house is kind of old and starting to need a lot of repairs so I wasn't completely surprised but the leak was pretty big. We had to turn off all the water to the house and wait for them to get one of their irrigation and plumbing experts over. Richard showed up almost immediately and had us all cleaned up and back in business in no time!! He even hung around to make sure all the leaking stopped etc. I was blown away - I figured I'd need to call a plumber and go through all that nightmare but no!! Grow Control took such good care of us! And this is the level of care and service we've received since day one! They're so fantastic- really takes a load of stress off my mind. They're caring, reliable, excellent at what they do, and very reasonably priced. We're still planning on completely redoing our yard - switching to all native plants - and when we do, it'll be the Grow Control team we trust for sure! THANK YOU everyone at Grow Control for all the years of TLC in our yard!

Save yourself the hassle and save your time!…read more Chris initially reached out to me by text and scheduled an estimate for 8:30 AM. He ended up arriving late at 9:30 AM after texting that he was running behind. We discussed a large project to replace/update the entire sprinkler system in both the front and backyard, totaling $3,375, and agreed to start the work on Tuesday at 8:30 AM. On the scheduled start day, he pushed the time to later because another customer had a leak that he wanted to check first. He never showed up. Later, he told me he had to spend the entire day fixing that leak and rescheduled me for Wednesday at 8:30 AM. On Wednesday, he rescheduled again, this time to Thursday at 8:30 AM, saying both of his workers were unavailable. Then on Thursday, he was another no-show. After waiting yet again, I texted him to cancel the project. This level of unreliability is completely unprofessional. I can't trust someone with a major project when they repeatedly fail to honor their commitments. Thankfully, we hadn't started the work yet. Otherwise, I would have been stuck wondering whether he would show up to finish the job or come back if there were any issues. I understand that emergencies happen, but repeatedly rescheduling and then failing to show up is unacceptable. I cannot recommend this business.

Was told will be available in two weeks to start the job. When called reference to estimate, said that they landed another job and won't be available till July. Was disappointed considering the references they have. Waited and wasted the whole week. This comment was added in response to David's comment below. Correction - you came on Tuesday around 5:30 pm and not Wednesday. Also I reached out to you on last Friday about the estimate as I didn't hear from you and you never said we serve first come first serve. So this company lies very well to make them look better. Be careful in hiring them for your project.

I met with 4 or 5 other landscapers to discuss our yard, and David and Al were the only ones who showed up ready to measure and able to talk specifics about what we could do. They were able to do a quick sketch right then - that really helped align our ideas with their suggestions. The work took just a few short weeks - killing all the weeds, leveling everything out - laying down mulch and drip landscaping for the selected easy maintenance low water plants, and just today the grass was installed. I couldn't be happier with the way everything turned out, and I would strongly recommend David and Al for any landscaping work.
