It is rare for us to find a place that is so good that I want to write about it. However, the sausage patties, the fried eggs, and especially the hash browns this morning were just wonderful. The sausage gravy was also noteworthy and unlike many places was flavorful and didn't taste at all like library paste. And or server, Jason, was friendly and efficient and extremely helpful. I walk in and get a table right away there waiter was nice in fact it was her birthday today we told her happy birthday then she got our drink orders it took 20 minutes to even get our drinks, someone else brings our drink that's not even our waiter they get our order and we literally wait 40 minutes then ask for the manger twice. Yesterday I had my usual, #2 breakfast with sausage, eggs over medium, hash browns and an English muffin with extra butter and jelly. We have been going to JR'S for over a year and a half and we have never been disappointed. The staff is always friendly and they keep my coffee cup full. The owner is almost always there. Service is a big deal to me. It can make a tasty meal a bad memory if the service is bad. Not to worry at JR'S. Finally got around to trying this place out after it changed names for the second time. Used to be Old Town Hamburgers, and before that Captain Billy Whizbang's. The interior was nicer and cleaner than I expected. We were greeted by a very friendly host, who seated us at a booth (again unexpected), and gave us our menus. We had a coupon for BOGO burgers, so we just went with the basic Original Burger and fries. Burger was fine, nothing special about it, but well cooked and well seasoned. The veggies were nice and fresh and abundant, which I really appreciate. Bun was buttered and cooked on the flat top, as well. Nice burger for six bucks. Good fries, too. Not frozen potatoes, fresh cut and cooked the right way, and not drowning in salt. We really enjoyed these. Ate every last bit off of our plates. The staff checked on us numerous times, was very courteous, and seemed to geniunely appreciate our business. This alone is going to bring us back. Excellent service. I would recommend this place if you don't want to spend twice as much at Chop House down the street, and don't want to deal with their wonky layout and crowds. read more

My wife and I WERE long time customers of JR's Grill & Café. However, an incident today has changed that. We will not go there again. I ordered a JR's Omelet (which comes with bacon, sausage, ham & cheddar cheese). I asked them to hold the sausage. The menu lists this omelet as 9.50. I was charged 11.25. My wife ordered a BLT (listed at 8.25) with no lettuce, and add avocado (listed as a 1.50 up charge), but the bill showed this at 11.00 [which is not 8.25 + 1.50 = 9.75]. I pointed this out to the manager who insisted that both prices were correct because the omelet had become a "make your own" omelet and holding the lettuce had made her sandwich a custom sandwich [despite this having been her "go to" sandwich for years without this issue]. The manager refused to honor the listed prices claiming that a "no substitutions" notice was on the menu [a menu that had not changed since the last time we had eaten there]. We had two issues: 1. the waitperson should have stated that an upcharge would apply at the time of the order, which they did not. 2. In both cases an item wasn't "substituted" it was subtracted. Since management would not budge on this and argued that I should have read the menu more carefully and took no responsibility for his waitstaff not providing a heads up that would have avoided this issue, it is clear to us that the owner/manager doesn't value its customers. I hope the extra $3.25 was worth the hundreds of dollars of business they will lose from us alone. read more

I love JR's home cooking. And their breakfast is delicious. The pancakes are a must with that hint of vanilla-yummy! They offer breakfast , burgers, sandwiches, southern home style meals and some Mexican style breakfasts. There are always specials and Senior discounts. I eat there at least once a week if not more often. read more

A friend turned me on to this place and I am so happy. The food and prices are GREAT. We went for breakfast, good coffee, had papas con huevos which came with your choice of corn and/or flour tortillas along with a single portion of salsa. Chalula on the table. Service is fantastic. No hovering and coffee refills right on time. I will be going back to this little gem of a place. Waitress boasts of delicious French toast. Something to look forward to. Try this place out. Second time here in a week. Walked in last week 15 minutes before closing and service & food was still outstanding. We had burger, patty melt and chicken strips. All delicious. So they make good burgers. Really nothing to rant and rave about, but they are good. My missus had a Philly cheesesteak which had mold on the bread. My tater tots had a rather long black hair in them. Didn't want to say anything as they had very few people in the restaurant to begin with. Just be cautious when dining there. read more

We eat at Jr's Grill Cafe in Pantego often. (Basically every Sunday morning before church and usually another time during the week. So much so that they bring us our diet Coke in to-go cups before we sit down! Ha ha) Anyway, last night we were there for dinner and I noticed Rigo, the owner, stop by a table and cut up the food on the plate of a handicapped woman who was struggling with it. I'm not sure if any other restaurants' owner would do that for someone! Rigo and his staff are always very friendly and personable. And that attitude obviously starts from the top down. If you've never eaten there, go! The food is always excellent and the staff is wonderful. It's on Park Row, just east of Bowen. It's well worth the trip. read more

If you want your mash potatoes scooped from an ice cream scooper, your mac'n cheese from a microwaveable cup, and the green beans straight from the can runny water and all well then this is your place. The biscuits were not cooked all the way and the gravy was cold and would not melt the butter so I didn't eat them. I asked the eggs to be cooked over medium and the yellow was almost all cooked. When I asked to take the biscuits off the bill he said no. He said no one else has complained. I said then I will just not come back. He said GOOD and smiled. This place has great food and a great staff, no complaints there. They have the Best Chips and Salsa, period, hands down! You have to try the flour chips, AMAZING! The only reason I gave it 3 and not 5 stars was due to our To-go order. I was very Disappointed with the amount of salsa we received, which was the main reason we wanted to go back. I've been here before. The food is alright. However, i came in this morning for breakfast with my boyfriend and his cousin. I ordered chicken and waffles, my boyfriend ordered biscuits and gravy, and his cousin ordered an omelette. We waited an hour after getting our drinks for our food and still no food, we had seen everyone else around us get their food, eat, get Togo boxes and tab out....our waitress didn't even acknowledge us once after taking our order. Our ice in our drinks had melted and our drinks were gone, hadn't even asked if we wanted refills...so we asked to speak to the manager, three times. They wouldn't send a manager over. They sent their teenage employee to check on us. Upon his arrival we all were so frustrated with this establishment we decided to leave. Empty handed and empty stomach. I would never go back to this place and will be telling everyone the same. Very disappointed. I'm a waitress myself and i could not imagine my restaurant running like this and my managers accept it. read more

The food was very good and tasted like food you come to your moms home to eat. You wouldn't be able to tell by the appearance of the place it looks a little iffy but the food was good and there were many people enjoying the food. I have loved this place since it was Captain Billy Whizbangs! I LOVE it even more now! Not only can you get a fantastic hamburger, the menu options are HUGE, man! I have my favorites but the whole menu is scrumptious! You can have lunch or dinner for breakfast or breakfast for lunch or dinner because the serve breakfast all day long! Get there before 11am to get early bird pricing! Their prices are very reasonable already! I like to create my own plates off their menu and they are fine with that. The customer service, yes , I said customer service, is OUTSTANDING! The whole staff is always eager to make your experience the best possible! These folk's have been here awhile and I know why! The food is always served hot and fresh without long wait times.... even when they are full! This place is like"Cheers "of diner's! I would like to give them a better rating as they are local, the service is good, etc. but the food basically tasted like it had been sitting around for awhile. I got the chicken fried steak, mashed potatos and fried okra with cream gravy, all three were bland and tasted like something you would find on a budget buffet. My wife had a patty melt (I tasted, better than what I got) and my daughter got a burger (dry, overcooked). Second daughter had chicken strips with mac n cheese. If you know what re-heated kraft mac n cheese looks like then you know what she got - and a HUGE portion of it too. Pretty sure it was leftovers.
