The 2nd Saturday of the month we have standing appointment. Since my wife and I are out running around we always have breakfast out for our "date morning." We love going out for breakfast, sitting at the table and enjoying each other's company and catching up with meaningful conversation. We dine at different restaurants each month. We were close to JR's, it sounded good and has an awesome breakfast menu. As we were being seated, my wife saw them put out a pan of fresh baked cinnamon rolls from the oven. My wife has never met a cinnamon roll she didn't like. She immediately knew what she was going to order. I decided on the Combo #3. It consisted of two eggs, two patties of sausage, hashbrowns and a pancake. You can choose your breakfast meat of choice and have toast or a biscuit instead of a pancake. When our server greeted us we were totally surprised. We were reunited with Craig, a longtime server we knew from another local restaurant. He worked at the other restaurant for close to four decades. Craig is the consummate restaurant professional. He is one of the best servers that's ever waited on us. We got reacquainted and placed our orders. Breakfast arrived after a short wait our breakfast was delivered to our table by one of the kitchen expeditors. My eggs were cooked to perfection and everything on my platter was SO good. My wife didn't say much since she was "inhaling" her cinnamon roll. If you are looking for a homestyle cafe you need to go to JR's. They have breakfast all day, lunch and dinner. I never had the breakfast but I have been here many times for dinner. I get the wonderful chicken fried steak with 2 sides and rolls. Rolls come with the meal. The chicken fried steak is real steak no press patty. All the sides are good. I like the green beans, hashbrowns, mash potatoes with gravy. I have had the grilled porkchops also very good. I have tasted other items from my husband plate the smothered chop steak, fried porkchops all good. They have many other items to pick from on the menu. The restaurant has certain hours and days open so check the web page. Nice clean restaurant plenty of seating. Good size crowd most of the time but we have never waited to get seated. We had been saying that we should check out JR's for ages but for some reason we never did. A few months ago though, we gave them a try. WHY DID WE WAIT SO LONG. The food is fantastic. Everything we have had there I would recommend to anyone. The favorites that I have had are the Chicken Fried Steak (a real steak not chopped patty), Fried or Grilled Pork chops, and Chopped Steak with a brown mushroom gravy. All entrees are served with 2 sides. The service has been great each and every time we have been here. Did I mention the rolls? OH MY GOODNESS. Fresh hot rolls that are fantastic. Everyone enjoyed their meals today! I only took a picture of my burger but we all had clean plates afterwards. I ordered the original burger (lettuce, tomato, onions, pickle) without mustard. Burger is a nice size and had good flavor, the veg was fresh, & bun was sturdy! The fries were good. I got a side of ranch and had good flavor & consistency (I'm picky about my ranch). Other meals devoured were a BLT + avocado with sweet potato fries, chicken & waffles, chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes, green beans served with two massive rolls, kids JRs french toast (eggs, bacon & french toast) & a breakfast sampler platter. JR's is always my go to when I want something homemade. I always get the same thing when I go but this time I want something different I have never tried Chicken Fried Steak since I been living in Texas and it's been over 10yrs and apparently it's a Texas thing because before I never heard of it. Well I tried and I loved it it just melted in my mouth it was so tender and delicious. Atmosphere was adequate for non-chain restaurant. Booth seats were comfortable; no tears or worn out padding. Service initially was prompt and polite but once food was delivered waitress never came around again . However, I did see other tables being tended to by the other waiter. Food was quite good. Mashed potatoes were REAL potatoes (not only could you taste the difference, from where I sat I could see into the kitchen a bit and observed worker pealing potatoes). Gravy was tasty and a great consistency, not too runny and not too thick. Okra was crisp. Chicken fried steak was just the right thickness, with a nice crispy crust. My mom said her pork chop was moist and tender despite being thin. She also said the coleslaw was very good. We'll be back. read more

Neighborhood gathering! The cafe is located in an older shopping center, primarily known by the locals who live within blocks of the main strip of Pantego. Parking is limited, but several surrounding spaces are available if you don't mind the walk. The customer base appears to 50+ age, but a small kids menu is available. My friend suggested we eat there after church, and I was pleasantly surprised to see several 'cafeteria' plate options that reminded me of past eateries. Frist vist I ordered the chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes with cream gravy, green beans and two rolls as the side. Second visit, I ordered liver/onions, mashed potatoes with brown gravy and rolls. The food was enjoyable, not hot but luke warm, reasonably priced and neighborly environment. The seating area is small and limited for large parties. In between breakfast and lunch can be the most crowded and hard to get service from the waitress/waiter. There were delays in ordering and paying for my food. I had to request my ticket at the register because my server never returned to the table, but despite that, I would like to give it a third try before making a final conclusion. read more

Here we are again it's our Sunday after church spot. The food is always fresh and delicious! Brought my nephew this time. We try to vary what we order (but my son is hooked on the Chicken Fried Steak plate and for me it's the Mexican Omelet). Service today was awesome, it always is. This place was packed. My first time visiting I ordered a cheeseburger with fries to go. Pros: The service was great and the employees were very friendly and helpful. My order was taken friendly and cooked fresh. Found this place on Facebook, and so glad we went. I got some Mexican breakfast and it was so yummy. We also got some chicken and waffles to share. SO GOOD. the chicken was just *mwuah* chefs kiss. They're always pretty busy so the service is just fine! We usually get seated in the back, it reminds me of my elementary school with the tile. Not in a bad way. JR's was great they have the best BLT w/ cheese than any place. I recommend them over nearby JJ's any day and they don't have extra charges like JJ's charges a FOOD TAX of about 8% in addition to regular tax. read more

Went to J.R.'s for an early dinner. I have lived within 10 miles of J.R.'s for over 15 years and have not ever been here. I'm not sure why. We love a local diner. Their menu is large with lots of breakfast and lunch/dinner options. They have a daily special that has a good price and a good portion. They were short staffed, so the service was a little slow, but we weren't in a hurry. The service was good, but slow. We loved that J.R.'s has a "small town diner" feel. There were a lot of people coming in that knew a lot of others that were there eating dinner. It was great to see everyone getting back together and being at a place where they learn your name. We ordered the Monday special, Hamburger Steak. The portion was great. Gravy and rolls were great. Have never had veggies in the sauce if the hamburger steak, but it was good. Different, not traditional, but good. We also ordered the banana, caramel french toast and the kids hamburger. The French toast was great and the burger was pretty standard. The fries were good. Nice seasoning and great texture on the fries. They were a good size, but crispy. We ordered ranch on the side to dip the fries, they have great ranch. Not the "waxy, shiny" gross stuff you get at a cheap diner. We are definitely going to go back and we highly recommend everyone in the area try this place. The Philly cheesesteak was awesome - not tradition with Whiz, but with swiss instead. The little chunks of grilled onions and green peppers were evenly distributed across the juicy cheesesteak. Popped in while in the area for work. Cute little, no frills, diner type spot. Server was nice and attentive. We split a crispy chicken sandwich and a buffalo chicken sandwich. I was pleasantly surprised the chicken was pounded super thing, and hand breaded and dried! Nothing frozen about it. Pieces were enormous, way too big for their buns but that's never a problem. Nice flavor and not oily. The fries were, unfortunately, very very soggy and oily. Tried one and left the rest. For a quick, cheap lunch, I'd go back but request extra crispy fries. For the most part business was steady we were seated and ordered our drinks, coffee and Tea. My husband ordered the #2 and I ordered the Mexican omelette with a side of biscuits and sausage gravely. My plate was delicious, biscuits and gravy and very GOOD! POOR Customer Service- Our card group of 10 had made reservations on Sunday for an 11:30 lunch on Thursday . We usually eat and play cards until 3. At 9:30 on the Thursday morning of our lunch, our group leader received a call that they could not accommodate us because we would nor be spending enough $. We just tried this place out and regret not doing it before now. Service was awesome, they don't let you run out of coffee! Husband had the breakfast sampler, I had the BYO omelet with chrorizo, potatoes, avocado, bacon and cheddar and it was DELICIOUS. I was very pleasantly surprised to find so much avocado in my omelet, most places only give you a few wedges and charge you $1 for not even 1/3 of an avocado, they charged $.75 for probably half of an avocado.
