Avoid Ten at all costs! I called for a same day appointment and Manny fit me in the schedule. Upon arrival, Alex told me to sit at his station and asked what color I wanted. I told him I'm only getting a haircut and he said ok. Another customer walks in and he assists her, seating her at the station behind me and proceeds to ask what cut and color she would like. About 5 minutes later, he tells me to sit 2 stations down. Ten comes over after she assisted another customer and asks what cut I would like. I told her I wanted to keep my V shape + long layers and just wanted to thin out my hair. She said ok and started straightening my hair. My hair is already very straight to begin with and I've never been to a salon where they start off straightening your hair, but this should've been enough for me to trust my gut and get up and leave! I decided to "trust the process" and she basically began dry cutting my hair and kept straightening in between cuts. In the end, she styled it with the straighter and said "I gave you more layers ok?" I'm so disappointed by Ten because not only did she not listen to what I asked for, but she butchered my hair. Of course with all the straightening, my hair would look decent because it's "styled," but when it's freshly washed and blow dried without styling, it's a choppy 3 layer haircut! I've been a loyal customer to J's Beauty Salon since they have always done me right in the past, but this time was my last straw. I mistakenly chose J Beauty because of how cheap their haircuts cost ($40 btw). I asked to refresh my layers and to keep it at the same length, or trim it to at least a inch shorter if necessary. Not only did this lady not follow what I had asked for, my hair was cut like 5 inches and was close to looking like a bob (it's a shoulder length). My hair came out looking very choppy, and now I have to grow it back out again. This salon always has refused to give me the type of haircut I want because apparently my hair is too short, this time my hair length was up to my ass and somehow they still fucked it up. Anyways I should've dropped J's Beauty a long time ago because they made me look like a lesbian with how short my hair was (I asked for a wolf cut turned out to be a bob). Excuses, excuses. Anyways this was so disappointing because I've trusted this salon a lot in the past for dying my hair, but haircuts are really not their speciality. Disappointing experience - unclear pricing and damaged hair I rarely write negative reviews, but my experience at J's Beauty Salon in Daly City was very disappointing and I feel it's important to share. I texted the salon prior for a perm and asked about the price first because my budget was just around $200. I was told a cold perm would cost about $210. I'm not very familiar with different perm types, but I asked if it would make my hair curly and they showed me a photo example, which looked nice, so I agreed. So, I went to the salon and during the appointment, the stylist suggested cutting some of my hair because parts of it had previously been colored. I agreed to the trim, but no one told me there would be an extra charge. When it was time to pay, they suddenly told me the total was $250 for the perm and haircut. Since I hadn't asked beforehand, I accepted it and paid. However, the biggest problem was the result. I finished the perm around 7 PM, but by around 11:30 PM that same night, my hair had already gone completely straight again. The curls were basically gone. I returned to the salon the next day to explain what happened. They told me that with a cold perm I would need to constantly spray water or apply curl products for the curls to show. I also pointed out that the photo they showed me looked very different from my result. Only then did they say the person in the photo actually had a digital perm as well. I asked to speak with the manager and explained that I had paid $250 but the perm didn't last at all. I asked if they could either fix it or give me a refund. The manager told me they would redo my hair with a digital perm for free and scheduled another appointment. When I came back for the redo appointment, they suddenly told me I needed to pay an additional $35 for a hair wash. This was very frustrating because washing hair is normally part of a perm service. If I had known there would be so many extra charges, I would have just chosen the digital perm from the beginning. I had already paid $250 even though I clearly said my budget was around $200. I asked to speak with the manager again and explained that the previous manager told me the redo would be completely free. At first they insisted that I still needed to pay the $35. Only after I said I would prefer a refund instead did they finally say I didn't have to pay it. Unfortunately, the service experience was also very uncomfortable. The stylist handled my hair very roughly, and the hair washing was not gentle at all. My clothes and the back of my shirt became soaked during the wash, and I had to go home with my back wet. Now my hair is curly, but it is also very damaged, extremely dry, and frizzy. Some sections even look lighter in color and feel brittle. Overall, this experience was very frustrating due to unclear pricing, inconsistent explanations, and poor customer care. I'll be never be coming back here. read more

First, let me start off by saying that I am no hair care expert! My idea of hair maintenance is washing my hair maybe once a week if I remember and drying it in a towel! So paying for someone else to do my hair seemed preposterous! That is until I unfortunately had the bright idea to dye my hair at home, on my own, the day before my SILs wedding. After sending messages through Yelp I decided to commit to this salon. It was a hair emergency, they were the first to respond, had great reviews, and I had to be at a wedding the same day! + 1 star for responsiveness and that Alex was able to do my hair the same day. + 1 star for color matching! Not only was he able to color match the top of my hair to the rest of it lol. He did my eyebrows like I requested!! + 1 star for timing. I arrived with 2.5 hours to spare and he was able to get everything done. Cut, Color, and Style in a little over 2 hours. I'm a new mom with a 4 month old who only nurses so I needed to be back home before he woke up from his nap! + 1 star for overall cut & dye process. Again, not sure what the etiquette is for a haircut, but he blew dry my hair when I sat down before trimming it since I didn't realize my hair was still damp. He also washed my hair thoroughly afterwards before using the lightening shampoo and dye! & that felt great. - 1 star for the styling at the end. one of his regulars (I'm assuming) came in and Alex decided to cut his hair & trim his beard while I was getting my hair washed which delayed him from finishing my hair. Another woman stepped in to blow dry then he took over to finish and styles afterwards. Cost $45 for the haircut $290 for the color match and correction According to my other SIL based on my hair texture and length coming in that was a good price. She gets her daughter's hair done at a salon twice a year so I trust her insight. Besides that I'm happy. I got a lot of compliments at the wedding so a definite win in my book! read more
