Quick and attentive service. We started with crispy dumplings (6), crispy egg rolls (2), and a scallion pancake. Bing, their crepe, wasn't available our night. My dining companions loved the pancake - for me perhaps a bit too much drizzled sauce. It was helpfully quartered when brought to the table so sharing was easy. The dumplings were indeed crispy and probably my favorite with a standard dark dipping sauce. The egg rolls were standard and perhaps a bit undersized and over fried, but a good creamy dipping sauce was a pivot away from the sweet chili sauce that usually accompanies such apps. Ramen is clearly the focus of the menu and three of us had ramen with chicken and one with pork. They spoke favorably of the broth and the combos of mushrooms, boiled egg, greens. I had the rice vermicelli with chicken that they called a salad. I was expecting the classic Vietnamese staple but this one had some adaptations, perhaps to a fusion or one might say less ethnic nod. Small things but the ample portion served in a small bowl made it hard to mix the rice noodles, lettuce, carrot, cucumber and chicken that is a common approach to the dish after drowning all the ingredients in both sweet sauce (nuoc cham), siracha and/or hoisin sauce. It only came with the nuoc cham. They brought Siracha when I asked for it, but I'm a fan of having these condiments on the table standard. Again, had the sense that the business lunch crowd that is probably the primary audience isn't likely to be as focused on the more authentic ingredients. The chicken was also not grilled and sliced but had a pleasant preparation. Just know it won't be the charred flavor that is so common. Finally, not to obsess on this one dish, but cutting the lettuce leaves more would enable easier chop sticks combos of the ingredients in single bites. Overall it worked for us. I am definitely the most focused on (my companions would say obsessed) on connection to what these dishes should be. If adaptations work well for you, Tiger+Lily likely will as well.

Finally a decent Chinese restaurant in Troy! I have been very disappointed and even grossed out by some of the other Chinese restaurant options in Troy but J's is much better. The food is fresh and not mushy or fatty. They use better quality chicken (I ordered chicken lo mein and my husband ordered hunan chicken) and their veggies were not overcooked. The place was clean and the staff was friendly. The decor is nice and modern. The one thing they could improve on is atmosphere. It would have been nice if there was some background music playing and some candles or flowers at the tables. Cloth napkins would have been nice to class it up for dining. The price was very reasonable. I am afraid not many people in Troy are aware of this nice place because it is kind of tucked away in a low traffic area. It is right next to the Staples parking in a little plaza of its own. It is newly build and still feels new and clean. Don't miss out on J's for great Chinese food! We have eaten at J's many times. Dine in experience was good so we tried carry out. We even live in a neighboring city but chose to drive there, especially for their steamed dumplings. So very disappointing. Two orders of General Tso chicken and an order of orange chicken was so hard they were inedible. Sweet and sour chicken and a s/s shrimp came with no sauce and we were missing a fried rice. Most disappointing was when speaking with the owner, the only remedy offered, after much insistence there was nothing wrong with the food and we are the only people to complain, was $10, a side of rice, and two cups of sauce. What?! No offer to remake order, or refund on the inedible meals. We won't be back. read more

J's is without question our favorite Asian restaurant. The food is hot, fresh, and delicious and service is always friendly and fast. The atmosphere is great, with nice ambient music and lovely Chinese embroidery panels on the walls. I especially enjoy the unusually good vegetarian options and my husband regularly orders seseme chicken, which he says is the best he has had. Plus it's family owned and operated so its great to support our neighbors in the community. We wouldn't order Chinese dine in or take out anywhere else. read more

For my recent birthday celebration, my husband contacted J's to see if they would make a special dinner not listed on their menu--a favorite of mine from living in California for 25 years. I read the reviews for this restaurant and decided I had to try it. After having their green pepper steak, egg rolls and pork fried rice, I'm going back to try their szechuan chicken. His colleague got it wrong because the boss wasn't there & when she got back she saw how he rang it up & to call me & tell me they couldn't do that. I would have to buy the sweet & sour pork & veggie lo mein separately @ $22+. Now, for $4 you gave up $18! I have never been called back by a restaurant due to a mistake they made for charging me wrong. MOST businesses, who want to gain & maintain customers would've sucked it up & corrected their employee! NOT call the customer for their $4 mistake!!! I will never order from this establishment. Their customer service is diabolical.
