I'll start by saying the food we ordered was "okay," not great, not bad, just, more or less, generally "meh." With that said, dear sweet, pineapple ocean deities, the portion sizes we received were not only insultingly small, but the prices were exorbitant! $13 for ~2 cups of pork-fried rice? Are you kidding me?! Sure, they added tiny slivers of bacon and Spam to make it "island style," but it was neither better nor any different from your standard Asian-American fare. To be perfectly honest, I've had better fried rice at larger, mediocre chain restaurants (eg. "that Chinese Bear place....") than we received from J's Kitchen. And don't get me started on the "deep fried pork belly". I've seen larger chunks of pork in a bag of chicharrones than what I saw on my plate. And, again, the price? My gawd....$15 for ~1 cup of plain white rice and maybe a tiny handful of fried pork belly cubes that tasted no different than every other cut of pork belly I've ever had? Puh-lease. I've had less forgettable meals served on a gas station hot tray. Oh, and the lumpian? Thinner than my damn pinkie finger and with what I'm convinced is less nutritional value. You're better off buying generic frozen spring rolls at the grocery store for a fraction of the price, seriously. And, finally, the "stir-fried meat"? Generic chunks of chicken covered in what I can only assume was the "Great Value" equivalent of soy sauce and a pinch of old red and yellow peppers thrown in for, color, I suppose? I've eaten tastier and less depressing pre-packaged meals on middle-school field trips. In closing, I'd give it 0 stars if I could. Between the sub-par food, the microscopic portion sizes and the sky-high prices, you're better off going someplace, literally anywhere, else if you find yourself craving something different. 0/10. I first ate at J's kitchen when it was still at the mall. I had chicken adobo and liked it. Today was my first visit to its own restaurant and ordered chicken curry with a Taro drink recommended by my friendly server. Food and drink were very good. The curry sauce was, as advertised, both sweet and spicy. The chicken chunks were tender. The Taro drink kept giving me throat freeze, though, so finishing my meal took a bit. I walked in shortly after 11am. I was the first sit-down customer. I like the pastel purple interior and the space (I remember when this was the Beef Baron in the 1980s). My window seat was very comfortable. A radio station was playing in the background. Got to listen to a Tracy Chapman song. Crowds started coming in an hour later as I was leaving. read more

This is for the combined JV's boba and J's kitchen restaurant Visited for one weekend and ate here twice. This place met all my Filipino food needs. Yes I'm Filipino but sometimes I like to not cook the food myself or beg my parents for it. JV was so nice and accommodating too! My bougie ass asked for ube coffee. They didn't have it BUT JV came out and offered to make taro coffee and we walked through almond milk and ice choices and she made it wonderfully!!!! We came in for the breakfast buffet, and it was amazing. The next day we came back for sinigang and adobo off the menu. We saw the sisig fries and HAD TO try them - they're all that is in that picture and MUCH MUCH MORE. What an amazing little gem this place is! I loved all the festive Halloween decor and great service. I'm coming back here any time I visit sierra vista. Highly highly recommend! read more

The serving sizes might not quite as large as what an average American restaurant might serve, but we had several appetizers as well (highly recommend!) and combined it was perfect. read more

Yum! This was my first time having Filipino food and I am impressed. The restaurant is clean and neat and nicely decorated with purple accents. The owner/cook was on site and was greeting everyone and checking on us without feeling pushy. Food portions are decent and the fruit drinks are fantastic. The pancit pala ok had more of a fishy taste than expected so we won't get that one again. We were treated a nice orange sorbet after our meal. This is a hard review to write, because as much as I want to support local small businesses, I feel like my first time dining in was an absolute disaster. They have a very large dining space with purple and white decor everywhere. It was very clean. We came in for the dinner buffet which seems to change times and dates frequently - to me this isn't something I like about a restaurant. I prefer consistency with operating hours and knowing what type of food I'm going to have if I am going to take my family out to a restaurant (especially nowadays with everything so expensive). The inconsistency of restaurants here is a huge reason why they fail, we never know when they're open and what they're offering because their menu changes so often. I understand everyone has a family and a life, but you should hire trusted employees so that you stay consistent. We showed up at 5:30 Friday night for their buffet and they had two servers for the entire dining hall. They all looked incredibly flustered and it took us 45 minutes just to get water for our kids. The food was good, not exceptional, but fine. The options were quite limited for their dinner buffet but we were happy to see pancit and the pork belly. I was pretty disappointed they didn't have adobo chicken for their buffet, but the garlic shrimp was delicious. Our children are under 3 so they should have been free, but the server charged us for each one of them in her flustered state. She did fix the mistake but couldn't refund me so she had to pay me back in cash? It was all very strange. We often order takeout from them and it seems like we will continue doing that since they can't properly staff themselves for dinner. There was an employee just standing there in the middle of the bar who could have been helping the servers at least give guests their drinks, but she just stood there and smiled at everyone instead of working or helping out. Just seemed super unorganized. I wish them the best but they do need to learn how to operate a dining room and guest experiences. read more

I live in Tucson now and I have missed J's cooking. Her food truck has moved to the Boba tea place on fry Boulevard. So I stopped by to get some of that pork belly and some jalapeños wrapped in bacon decided to get some hibiscus tea while I was there. Y'all. This is the best! I didn't want rice so I got extra pork belly It is perfectly crisp! And these jalapeños! Huuuuge! It was so nice to see J again- she is still so kind and an EXCELLENT cook with great recipes. I'm so glad her truck was open while I was in town. I got some hibiscus tea from inside the boba place & it was fantastic. They were able to make it unsweetened and the flavor is exactly what my grandma used to make. read more

Filipino cuisine with a twist! This was my second try at J's had the chicken adobo, lumpia, and today fried pork on steam rice with fried egg on top. The adobo was different, not like mama's cooking, but the flavor was good hence the twist. The lumpia lack meat filling but it was good - maybe some sweet chili sauce. The pork belly and rice with egg on top was delicious. Crunchy pork bits with onions and a hint of fresh red chili. The truck is parked next to JV's boba which btw makes delicious boba tea. This is the new restaurant on West Fry, very close to the fort. Joyce, the owner and head cook, does a fantastic job with Filipino Food! She has a very thoughtful menu with many delicious choices. This is the building where Peacock restaurant used to be. They open at 11 o'clock for lunch. The food was good and the service was prompt and polite. I ordered the sisig with chips appetizer and the tocino for my lunch meal. The sisig was amazing! Such flavor and the wanton chips were so crunchy. The tocino was also very good and had just the right amount of sweet and salty. I ordered the garlic rice with it expecting a nice garlic flavored rice but it's was just a more oily white rice with fried garlic toppings mixed in. Kinda a let down with all the other amazing foods. I also ordered a jasmine-honeydew tea with boba and it was very good. Most teas like that are too sweet but they let you customize and you can ask for half sweet like I did. Hit the spot! I recommend this place! read more

For a town that is full of chain restaurants and processed food it's nice to have a restaurant with a little more variety. Ordered the seasoned pork belly fries and the fried pork belly with fried rice. Both were DELICIOUS! Highly recommend you skip the typical Sierra Vista fast food chain and support local business. This is a update. I lowered this to 1 star. 50 miles riding (an hour later) I was frantically searching for a bathroom due to the onset of dysentery. I'll definitely NEVER RETURN!!! This is a restaurant not a food truck. Thy use to be a food truck. Thy are now a nice brick & mortar building. It's serves a variety of Filipino food. I ordered the traditional lunch combo. Pork lumpia & chicken adobo w fried rice. The pork lumpia was small. Very small. Wat was truly disappointing was the chicken adobo. It just wasn't a good adobo flavor. Also had a appetizer Sisig Wonton Crisp. Another disappointment. Very disappointing experience. Probably will not come back. read more

The tea for basic boba drinks is made with powdered milk and if you don't get extra milk (which costs extra) they use water. It outrageously expensive for what low quality it is. And if want an actual tea you have to pay even more, even though most boba places use jasmine green tea as the base tea. Bamboo gardens has better boba tea. read more
