This is a classic seaside seafood joint on the A1a near Palm Coast. The parking lot is a big sandy dirt lot. Lots of funky signs and fish nets. There was a big sign (3actually) saying they only took cash with the note that an ATM was available and sorry for any inconvenience. The hostess found us a table quickly and the we sat for about ten minutes watching people pick up orders and the waitress check on other tables. There was a bar in the next room with a couple of older men who I guessed were part of the nightly crowd. A larger party of what I assume to be locals came in and were waiting on immediately. After taking their drink orders the waitress popped over to get our drink orders. She was nice but it seemed we should have been waited on before the newer arrivals. I did like the limited menu with its assurances that all the fish was caught and prepared fresh. We started with catfish fingers. They were super tender and flaky without too much breading. They were served with tarter and "orange" sauce (like a Yum Yum sauce). Both were very good. We weren't done with the tenders before our entrees came out. DD ordered shrimp and grits with a side of roasted Brussel spouts while I had the shrimp platter with 12 shrimp, french fries and cold slaw. I would have ordered the 6 if I had known how big they would be! I ended up removing some of the breading as it was rather thick but it was tasty. DD really liked her creamy, rich and very cheesy grits. She appreciated that there was no andouille sausage in the mix. We were very full and happy when we were done. Located right in North Ocean Shore Boulevard, JT's Seafood Shack has plenty of parking options. My family and I came on a Saturday afternoon for lunch and were immediately seated outside. But don't be fooled, there is an outdoor seating area. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't our friend when we visited (it was cold and rainy). Which now that I think about it... I'm not too mad about it since the ground outside is mostly sand. We only crossed the parking lot and my car looked like we had made a beach visit. Our waitress was amazing & had the best recommendations on what to order! I ordered the Blackened Shrimp Tacos and can I just say... WOW! The tacos were flavorful and plentiful. It came with a small side of rice and beans which was a nice touch to the tacos. My dad ordered the Blackened Shrimp and Scallops Platter and he said the scallops were cooked to perfection (it wasn't chewy or rubbery). But we both agreed on that the cajun spice was a little too much for us to handle. Unfortunately, I live in Central Florida so I'm not near JT's but if I was, I would be here almost every month. The food was good ...not spectacular. I had the lobster roll and it was unimpressive. The meat was very bland and the roll wasn't toasted and buttery like most lobster rolls. I will say that there was a lot of lobster on the roll. The blackened fish tacos were very good as well as the onion rings. I actually dipped my lobster roll in the sauce that came with the tacos! Very laid back and casual place! We stopped at lunch time so no live music. The portion size is good as well as the service. Would I come back based on this visit.., probably not. We tried the Gumbo soup (3/5) and Shrimp seafood boil (4/5), it was yummy and fresh...but my ultimate favourite was the Seafood Bouillabaisse! This place was awesome in every way! We had a hankering for some seafood after taking a walk on the beach and decided on JT's. Sat outside on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. Great ambiance! Ordered up gator tail, tuna tataki, gumbo and the A1A salad with lobster. Everything was delicious! The aioli for the gator was perfect. Breading was very good and we got a good amount of meat in each bite. Tuna was seared perfectly and was fresh. Gumbo was so hearty and full of crawfish. First I'd like to say the service is great, but as a tourist it's harder to get gator in this area than I thought but we found JTs. Sadly I can get better gator back in my hometown of Oklahoma. It was breaded more than there was meat so we weren't overly impressed. My boyfriend ordered catfish and I got the fried shrimp. They have a early dinner special from 3-6 but it was only a dollar cheaper than the original dinner. The food was hot and served fresh but there's was nothing to be excited over. It was overall very bland. I feel like the food all tasted the same. The fries, hush puppies and shrimp honestly all tasted the same... lacked seasoning and flavor. Decided to give this little place a try on our way back home from a company outing and man am I so glad we did! First, COVID talk: They have tons of outside seating which is really what drew us in as it allows for a great deal of distancing and a feeling of safety. The staff is all wearing masks, properly! For our meals we ordered fried shrimp and scallops and again we were not unhappy! The shrimp come with a pink dip that I can't quite place but it was so good! Been driving past for 20 years and it has always been suoer busy. My wife and I took a chance and were pleasantly surprised we were able to be seated right away. Although not pictured, the calamari was some of the best that I have ever had, although I would've liked some tentacles . The crab cakes were the best that I have ever eaten. My entree was the broiled scallops and onion rings. Both good. The service was top-notch, and the server was knowledgeable, friendly, and prompt. We went to Washington oaks state park seen this place decided to stop for dinner. The food was blah. My wife had the halibut Milanese. Cooked good nice flavor she really like the mashed potatoes. I had the fried shrimp platter and potato salad the shrimp tasted like sea pak shrimp from the grocery store. It wasn't good at all. My kids had chicken tenders they tasted like the shrimp bland! I was visiting a friend in Palm Coast and he recommended this place. From the outside, it looks like a basic seafood shack. From the inside, it still looks like a basic seafood shack. They also have outdoor seating and there was live music. We both had fried scallops and shrimp with fries. They were fine. Nothing remarkable. I also had the gumbo, as I am a gumbo kind of person. This is a local hang out which should say a lot for this place. The staff is super friendly and the food is on point! A wee bit pricy at first glance, but there are specials including a daily happy hour that the locals definitely enjoy. I ordered the Seafood Bouilabaisse which was ridiculously good! The clams and mussels were tender and the shrimp and fish were succulent - everything was fresh. The garlic baguette and rouille spread were a nice touch to round this meal out. My husband ordered the fish and chips and he loved the fresh cod wrapped in a crispy batter. The fries and coleslaw were a perfect compliment to the fish. I must say that in the 11 years (yes that's right folks) since I first reviewed JT's, I've been back a few times and have found it to be consistently great. Thus, I'm tacking on the 5th star. The food we had on our visit last night was some of best we've had. I had the Wahoo tacos special (in the picture) and they were not only messy (in a good way) but they had such a medley of flavors that I didn't care that the portion was larger than I should be finishing...I just did. The wife's shrimp and grits was very tasty if not slightly mushy. The waitress, Emily, suggested a local hot sauce that really amped the dish up. Service has not been an issue in our latest visits and although they were very busy on a Friday night, we could have gotten a table quickly. We opted to sit at the bar instead. It was a good idea. Emily's help with the Craft beer selection was welcome. The food came out quickly and we had plenty of room to enjoy our meals. This place has a great reputation among locals, so I decided to drop in for dinner with family while visiting the area. It's a backwoods venue on a lonely, dark stretch of A1A in the Hammock Dunes. I had the sautéed crab cakes app and the fried catfish dinner. Both were delicious. My sister ordered fettuccine alfredo with blackened shrimp and was very pleased. JT's is the type of roadside shack that you expect to be a "find", a hole in the wall with exceptional food. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case at all Being a seafood place, I decided to go with one of the specials, Grilled Wahoo over a caramelized pineapple plank with pineapple mango salsa. The dish was a total miss. The meager piece of fish was dry and flavorless. I used everything I found at my disposal (salt, lime, barbecue sauce) to make the fish edible. 14 year old ordered salmon prepared the same way and it was just as bad. The side of green beans was plain, steamed, and just horrible. Our server was nice enough to switch them out for Asian style green beans and those were not much better. 15 year old ordered a burger and it was badly burned. The manager was called over and she took it off our bill and gave us a gratis key lime pie. A couple of menu items were good. Husband enjoyed his French Dip. The Fries were hot, seasoned, perfectly crisp, and tasty. Plus the service was excellent. We really appreciated the switch out of the green beans, the offer to switch out the burger (ultimately taking it off the bill), and the free pie. Even though the management did what ever they could to make up for the mishaps of the kitchen, I still cannot recommend JT's. read more
