Amazing tasting menu here. Every dish was great. They only have two sittings at 6 and 8:30pm so everyone starts roughly around the same time. Surprisingly the dishes are spaced out nicely without a long wait so they must be doing some prep and coordination magic to ensure everything comes out at a steady pace. Servers are attentive and friendly. I would def come back here if they rotate the menu on a regular basis.

I had a delicious meal at Jua. Everything was cooked perfectly, and the service was great. They explained every course, and they were very attentive - my friend accidentally dropped his tablecloth and they immediately brought him a new one. My favorite dish from the tasting menu was the jook. It was a very unique take on congee - it had the consistency of chowder, and I could taste individual grains of rice. Congee usually has the consistency of thick, mashed rice, but this had a really smooth soup texture. There was a smokey flavor and a slight kick of spice. It smelled SO good from the ground sesame. My second favorite dish was the raspberry sorbet - it had a very interesting mix of textures due to the combination of sorbet, yogurt, and the top crunchy thing. It was very refreshing. I was surprised by how crispy the seaweed was for the caviar kim. The lamb dish was a little gamey but not too bad, and it was super tender. The banchan for the lamb was served in a very aesthetic way and paired nicely with the lamb in balancing the heaviness. The sesame ice cream with the sweet potato rice cake donut was a bit of a miss for me - the sesame ice cream had very strong sesame flavor, which I loved, but I thought that the donut was a little hard to chew. I don't know that it was worth the price, but all in all, it was a yummy meal and I'm glad I got to try it.

I had a really great time dining here. We had dinner to send off our friend who decided to move back to SF, so it was a special night. Started off with the Caviar Kim which I loved so much. I'm the type of person who loves pretty much everything from the sea. This was great to start with. The whole order of the menu was perfect. Arctic Char and Striped Jack were interesting and had out of the box flavors. The presentation for each dish was very lovely too. One of my favorites was the Wagyu. Cant go wrong there. Every dish was phenomenal though. As we were getting closer to the end of the menu, we were surprised we were getting full. I'm a huge dessert person and was very impressed with the creativity of the dessert. The first one was a palette cleanser. You take the small spoon and break the top part and eat the dish. It was light and tasteful. Then the second dessert dish was like science and paired well together with the ice cream and I think it was a sweet potato something in the shape of a donut. Whatever it was blew us away because it tasted so well together. The service was excellent. They genuinely asked if we enjoyed each dish and really wanted our opinions. Wonderful restaurant.

Awesome spot with impeccable service, an amazing tasting menu and a fun vibe. Definitely earned their 1 star... highlights were branzino, a jook broth with abalone, and the caviar kim. Also the GOGUMA JUAK was epic. Overall a nice birthday treat.

My experience at Jua was stunning from start to finish, the bites were absolutely heavenly and perfectly cooked. It's definitely one of the more affordable Michelin options in the city, and for $200 (included add on for the uni kim) I was super full and satisfied. The jook porridge was so flavorful and incredible, I wanted to scoop every single bite it was so rich and the flavor was so unique I had never tried anything like it. The caviar kim was a heavenly little first bite! Salty and umami. The lamb was decorated with delicious sauces like an artists palette. The mulhoe really surprised me for a cold raw soup it was so tasty and tangy and lick your spoon clean good. I have never tried anything like mulhoe before and now it has shot up to favorite cold soup, gazpacho cannot compete. Really refreshing blend of spicy and sweet and sour flavors. Branzino skin was so crispy too! The two dessert dishes really surprised me, they were so delicate light and refreshing. The tangy citrus complimented the whole meal so well. The sesame ice cream was the most creamy luscious perfectly balanced ice cream I may have ever had. I loved my experience at Jua and would return again in a heartbeat!

Hubs took me for my birthday dinner. I was most excited for the caviar and uni courses. The caviar course did not disappoint, but I was so shocked how much I enjoyed the congee dish (we added the abalone). It was so comforting. For the price, it was a very enjoyable tasting menu!

This has been on my list for a while! The service was decent but not exceptional as other places with a Michelin star. They were accommodating when my friend had an aversion to lamb, but you do have to let them know any dietary restriction before you arrive for your reservations. It's a set menu so the dishes can't be modified unless told ahead of time. My favorite dish was the branzino and the jook. The branzino melted in my mouth. It was so silky. The Jook was great for a cold day. Honorable mention was the mandarin sorbet dessert. The tartiness made it a good palette cleanser.

Jua is truly deserving of its Michelin star. From start to finish, the experience was exceptional. Everything was so thoughtful and incredibly delicious. The service was super attentive and and always explained what the dish was and how to eat which was so helpful. Caviar Kim: 5/5 - An amazing dish to start the meal. Such a refreshing bite and the crisp seaweed added great texture with the caviar. Mulhoe: 4.5/5 - I'm not the biggest fan of raw fish but this was delicious. The fish was so fresh and the sauce complemented the fish so well. Jook: 5/5 - Comforting and elegant, simple but executed perfectly. Super flavorful! Branzino: 4/5 - Delicately cooked with clean, refined flavors. Lamb & Chan: 5/5 - Hands down my favorite dish of the night. I've never had lamb this tender, juicy, and flavorful. Absolutely unforgettable. Mandarin: 4.5/5 - Light, refreshing sorbet and a perfect palate cleanser. Goguma Juak: 5/5 - One of my other favorites of the evening. So good--crispy, chewy, subtly sweet, and incredibly satisfying. Overall, an outstanding meal with incredible execution, standout dishes, and warm, attentive service. Jua absolutely lives up to the hype, and I can't wait to come back.

It's closer to 4.5! Overall the experience was very good. I asked if I could switch out the lamb and they accommodated and gave me beef instead. My friend who tried both the lamb and the beef said my beef was better. I liked most of the dishes but wasn't a massive fan of the Jook and the mandarin dessert. The crispy part of the dessert kept cutting my throat...might have been my fault because I should have chewed it more but yeah that was uncomfortable. I also don't enjoy tart desserts so this wasn't my favorite. The jook while it tasted good I felt like it www very creamy and heavy and mushroomy. It was a bit too substantial for a dining experience like this. I'd prefer a smaller portion but an extra dish of something else :). They also did a small bday thing for my two friends with a candle and also gave me the same donut dessert (Goguma juak). It seems like it was part of the menu and not an extra item so the special part was the candle only. So at $140 per person it was a good experience but wasn't exceptional hence the 4.5 rating rather than a 5. The restaurant space and table arrangement also didn't feel as upscale but service and food definitely made it good. I didn't get to try their drinks but they seemed enticing so will try another time.

goguma juak: sweet potato mochi donut with black sesame ice cream

Came here for a dinner for two. You can only do the prefix menu, but you can add on things. We chose to get the base menu without add ons. Really enjoyed all the dishes, but the favorite for me was the mulhoe, very refreshing and loved the Korean flavors on ceviche. The sweet potato mochi donut paired really well with the black sesame ice cream, and it was a combination I didn't expect. Service was prompt and great, every waiter took care to explain the dish and how to eat it. They were very attentive with the water and replacing the utensils as well. Inside is a nice dimly lit vibe, perfect for a date or an indulgent dinner with friends or family.

My first Michelin star restaurant and it didn't disappoint! The restaurant is pretty small and intimate-- it's not overly fancy. At first I expected elaborate decor from a Michelin star place, but I think its ambiance is a nod to the fact that they aren't trying to be pretentious, and despite the high standards of the food, the feel of the restaurant and the staff is very welcoming. The servers are super nice and casual, although professional and gave great recommendations. The food was amazing all around. The caviar kim and uni kim were delicious and so fresh. My favorite dish was the jook--the ultimate comfort food on a cold day. I'd say the most underwhelming course was the dessert but I still enjoyed it. I know they switch their menus up so I would totally come back to try more!

Wow I don't even know where to start! JUA was PHENOMENAL! One of my favorite Michelin restaurants I've eaten at! The courses meal made it feel similar to fine dining but was still pretty cozy. The service was great -- the waiters had wonderful attention to detail. The meal itself left me speechless. While certain elements of the menu rotates, there's a couple of staples. I literally had no notes. I was extremely satisfied and stuffed by the end of the meal!

Taylor Z.

Fantastic from start to finish. The standouts for me was the jook and the branzino. Just perfect rich flavors for both. The abalone was really tender as well as the branzino.

Here's what we ordered: ~ Tako Wasabi - 5/5 stars A fiery delight. This appetizer feartures chopped raw octopus marinated in wasabi. It has a lively zest from the wasabi and is topped with tobiko, which adds a pleasant contrast in texture. ~ Honey Makgeolli - 4/5 stars A traditional fermented Korean beverage that is light and pairs brilliantly with your meal. It is a cloudy alcholoic drink served in a metal teapot, and surprisingly, there is much more in that teapot than you would expect. It easily provides six to eight generous pours. The flavor is subtly sweet with a pleasant tang. ~ Temaki Set - 4/5 stars You can order a set of three by choosing from selections 1-17, or you can order a la carte at the listed prices. Some of the temaki stood out more than others. Our two sets included marinated salmon, bluefin tuna, spicy yellowtail, spicy bluefin, and two dynamite temaki. ~ Spicky Pork Ssam Set - 5/5 stars Truly another standout entree that even surpassed my beloved grilled BBQ bossam. You received a generous basket of assorte greens, including romaine, kale, perilla leaves, dandelion leaves, nappa cabbage, and more. It is well worth the price and makes for a fun, interactive dining experience with your family and friends. There is also various banchan offered and this time, they were beyond kind enough to offer refills. The last time we were here, we ordered just as much food and they stated they normally did not offer refills, which I thought was very odd. Needless to say, we will be back!

Short Review- Outstanding Restaurant Week Menu. Get the Hoe Muchim, Yukhoe, Gangjeong, Galbi-Jjim,…read moreand if you want to be very full, the Pyongyang Cold Noodle. I went back to this Korean spot with a group for their $60 Summer Restaurant Week menu, which I'll abbreviate as RW from now on. I was not expecting the biggest portions as the menu is a bit pricey, but I was surprised in a good way. Compared to the regular menu, this is a fantastic deal, being both high quality and with large portions. You can see the previous review regarding the nice space, which is from a converted library. The only distinction this time was that they were much more crowded. The server was friendly, though he did rather haphazardly drop off all of the appetizers instead of giving them to the specific people who ordered them, leading to a bit of confusion. To drink, I shared a bottle of 24% Soju Dokdo, which another person had ordered at the bar prior to me arriving during happy hour. As per the other time before we got the other courses, they gave us some kimchi as well as a cold soup as an amuse bouche. The soup consisted of cucumber, tomato agar jelly, basil oil, and Korean pear. The soup is refreshing, cold, slightly herbal, and a little bit sweet, and worked perfectly to whet our appetite. The RW menu that followed consisted first of one choice each from three different options: vegetable, sea, and meat. Afterwards, there was a choice of main and a side dish, and then dessert. From the appetizers, my vegetable choice was the Lotus Root Gangjeong/연근강정, a pair of fried lotus root slices with a mild sweetness, presumably from rice syrup/물엿. The lotus root had a light fry, with a mild crunch, but it was the most basic of the dishes. Other people enjoyed the Asparagus Japchae/아스파라거스잡재 and the Acorn Jelly/도토리묵. I tried the latter, and it was refreshing and tasty with an interesting mix of textures. Compared to the other appetizers, this was also the only course without a supplement, which makes sense since it was vegetables. From the sea section, I ordered a dish I got last time, the Hoe Muchim/회무침, listed on the menu as seasonal fish, gochujang, and soybean powder, which all came with kim/seaweed for DIY handrolls. The dish is normally $24, and of course, the portion was slightly smaller, but it was still sizable. As this was the case with the other dishes, I won't mention that again. The fish in this case was raw salmon, which was buttery, and paired with the crunchy vegetables, the sweet/spicy/mildly fermented gochujang, and the nutty soybean powder. Another person enjoyed the Shrimp Pancakes/새우전, saying that there was plenty of shrimp inside, and no one ordered the $5 extra Abalone Salad/전복냉채. Finally, for meat, I went with the Yukhoe/육회, the Korean version of beef tartare with Korean pear and egg yolk, which is normally $28. The meat was tender with a mild fragrance from sesame oil and a bit of sweetness from the paired, well, pear. No one got the Spicy Fried Chicken/닭튀김, while someone else splurged and loved the $5 extra Beef Cheek Suyuk/소뽈살수육. For my main dish, as with a few others as per my recommendation, I went with the $10 extra Galbi-Jjim/갈비찜. Normally $52, this had soy-braised prime beef, Pyogo mushrooms, some potatoes, and some tteok. The short ribs were very tender, with some fat that was flavorful without being too chewy. The broth wasn't as sweet as some other places, with a delightful little bit of spiciness. This was outstanding, just like last time. Others enjoyed the Bossam/보쌈 and the Squid Stir Fry /오징어볶음, with no one getting the Tofu Mushroom Hot Pot/두부버섯전골. As a side, my choice was the Mushroom Sotbap/버섯솥밥, which is $10 extra, but shared between two people. Normally for $38, this had golden queen rice, mushrooms, foie gras, and a beef broth, and just like during normal service, they present the full pot before dividing it up. The rice had a strong umami with a bit of crunch from the scorched part, and was delicious like last time. Another person liked the Seasonal Vegetable Bibimbap/산채비빔밥, and one other had the portion of Pyongyang Cold Noodle/평양냉면, with the broth poured at the table. The portion was noticeably gigantic compared to every other dish, and the bit of broth I tried was delicious. For dessert, there were two choices. I got the Korean Melon/참외 with coconut and manchego cheese. The dish was well composed, with a granita/ice made from melon, some coconut sorbet on the bottom, and a very mild cheesy flavor. It was refreshing. A few had the Burdock/우엉 with burdock ice cream, chocolate mousse, and burdock chips. They found it mildly bitter with a bit of nuttiness, and one person liked it, and the other did not. I tried a bit, and I thought it was decent, but I preferred my dessert. This was again a very good meal. I wish I had better photos, but we all loved our time here.

Food, service, and ambiance were all amazing. The service was attentive throughout the meal. They offer a tasting menu, but we opted for a la carte so we could try a wider variety of dishes. The complimentary cold broth served to cleanse our palates was a thoughtful touch. The fried chicken wing was cooked perfectly with an incredibly crispy exterior. The uni sotbap was delicious, packed with rich umami flavors in every bite. The bossam was solid, tender pork belly served with fresh lettuce wraps. The cold noodles were refreshing, and I especially enjoyed the light, flavorful chicken broth. The galbi was tender, juicy, and well-seasoned. Overall, every dish was delicious, and I'd definitely come back if I'm ever in town.
