    Grilled Al Pastor Quesadilla

First time here. My Berkeley native friend suggested it. I had a delicious Grilled Al Pastor Quesadilla & my friend had Chicken Mole. We ate everything, including the chips & salsa! Juan's opened in 1972, and it has a casual old school vibe. Our waiter has been here since it opened & was very helpful & efficient. I hope to come back soon!

I got the fish fajitas today! Really good! My partner ordered a super chicken burrito and it was enormous! This place is always known for their generous portions and the delicious food!

I absolutely love the food here. Good, authentic Mexican food. (my most favorite food in the world) I ordered a Wet Salsa Verde Steak Burrito. It was so damn good. The service was amazing. It feels nice and warm inside. Feels like I'm at abuletias

The ambiance is laid back, spacious & chill. This restaurant has been here for 52 years serving the Bay Area family owned. They're all very attentive and nice, it's like attending a big family outing. Food is delicious like you're eating a home cooked meal right out of your kitchen. We had steak Ranchero and fish tacos absolutely delicious. The meat is tender cooked to perfection and the fish tacos, are light and tasty. You have to try chips, salsa and guacamole. If you're ever in Berkeley, you have to stop by and give this place a try, you will not be disappointed!!

    Crispy Shell Tacos

Quite literally the worst meal I've ever had, i got chicken tacos, the rice was dry like it had been sitting out for hours, the black beans were hard like they didn't boil them properly, the chicken and ingredients of the tacos all tasted old and the plate looked sad There was one other table of people in the whole restaurant, no music playing, dingy atmosphere, how is this place still in business?? The service was good but I want good food. It costs 25$ for two tacos and beans and rice, I wouldn't mind paying that if the food was good..... I left my leftovers on the street outside My life is forever altered I now have the pleasure of knowing definitively what the worst meal I've ever had was.

The service was wonderful. And the red salsa is just out of this world. And I love those chips that everyone else is raving about.

Best Mexican I've had in the YAY! Quesadilla ala Jesus is by far my favorite dish! But everything here is good. The flour chips are a must!

This is probably the best mexican place my husband I go to. We really like the chips (addictive) and the Fajitas rock.

Ask the Community - Juan's Place

    Does Juan's sell gift cards/certificates?

No, to my knowledge they don't.

Do they have specials on certain days?

Yes! It is on the board when you come into the restaurant. It isn't one of those "buy one get one" kind of deals. More of meal specials that they make for the day.

I heard Juan's was closing soon - anyone know anything about that?

I asked and they said absolutely not and they do not know how rumors like this get started.

THE BEST MEXICAN in Berkeley!!!…read more My home away from home. Super friendly vibe and amazing food. The plátanos tropicales are served with this super duper yummy white sauce. For lunch, I usually get a veggie burrito with extra pico, guacamole, and sour cream. It's $17 and change, but I get two meals out of it (unless my husband gets to the leftovers before me). Plus they have this lovely outdoor patio with tables both in the shade and sun and complimentary green and red salsa. Best of all - they allow dogs!! That factor alone puts this place in my top three or maybe even top two lunch spots in Berkeley, lol. Our doggie soaks up the attention of the dozens of adoring fans.

My brother (vegetarian) ordered the tacos patatas and I had the kids burrito (beans, rice, guac, salsa). We also ordered the chips, salsa & guac. Everything was jam packed with flavor, freshly made, and the service was awesome. The guy working the register was really knowldgeable on the menu and was eager to share all the veg options they had. I'm not used to that kind of attention for eating veg, especially at a Mexican restaurant so that was pleasantly appreciated! Looking around, I could see there was a good mix of veg and meat eaters. It's important to note they offer quite a bit of dishes with mole which isn't a super common thing. I love the outdoor seating with heaters. This is a great place for groups and if you have kids that want to run around.

I still feel that way, but recently I reserved a table for 4 and two things really stuck in my mind negatively after spending the evening there that wanted to alert the restaurant to. I worked in restaurants for 15 years so I know not every day is your best, and that getting things right is the first priority, not schmoozing, so this isn't about friendliness. The server was fine in terms of checking up on us, but didn't engage our request for recommendations for dinner or wine; no biggie, but when the check came she a) didn't mention that the tip was included, and my generous boyfriend (who wanted to snag the card and pay quickly without letting others get a chance) would have tipped another $80 had I not gotten up from the table and asked whether tip was included. On large checks the server should tell the group immediately not to worry about calculating the tip, and still act like she is earning it by taking good care of the table, refilling wine glasses when we ordered a bottle, etc. what really got me though was when we requested -- she didn't offer-- the remaining food on the table to go, she came with two piles of boxes and put them on the edge of the table. Again, my no-fuss boyfriend said he didn't mind packing the food up, but I think if you spend $450 on a dinner they could at least offer to neatly pack the food to go. It's a chore that I want to leave at home, plus it can be messy. It annoyed me a lot that the money we spent didn't seem to be appreciated and we had to basically clean up our table at the end. Not a good service night. Can you make it a policy to at least offer to pack the food? Comal isn't that type of pandemic restaurant that drops customer service in favor of pretend hygiene, and I just wonder if the standards are slipping or it was just a one off
