Went here for Mother's Day, it looks very basic inside but I was impressed. It's very small, it looks like a tiny diner. I got a chili cheese omelet with hash browns and a biscuit and my mom got a chicken fried steak and I believe a hash brown too. The food came pretty fast and was a good portion. I work next door to this place. I moved to Duncanville from Miami 15 years ago and I always saw this diner but never went to it. I ended up leaving Duncanville for North Dallas after only a year and I just moved back to Duncanville recently. I started working next door to Judy's so I decided to finally try them. I've been ordering breakfast from them every day since. The staff is super friendly and welcoming. Leighann acknowledges me by name every morning when I call in my order because she recognizes my number from the caller id. And she has my order memorized. I was in Duncanville for an appointment and had time to stop for a quick breakfast. I happened to see an old diner and I like diners a lot because they almost always have pie and I really love pie...Well anyway, on to my review. When you enter it's self seating. Someone just calls out, you can sit anywhere, every time a guest enters. They deliver the check to the table with your meal. This is a stand in line and pay at the register diner. And it's very inexpensive. There is one small TV in the corner and they have a bookcase filled with paperbacks and magazines which is cool. This is also the type of diner that attracts old timers. I was so hungry for home food. I am going under kitchen remodeling and man this place hit the spot. It's something I would cook in my kitchen. Nothing fancy just food!!! It was easy, fast and great. Oh my. Coming from a small rural town, I've eaten at plenty of small rural town cafes. This one is at the lower end of the small town spectrum. On the smoking side of the cafe, every table had an ash tray containing at least two butts. In the name of all that is good, empty the freaking ash trays when you bus the table! Once I found the non-smoking side of the cafe, I saw the sign on the wall informing me how many free refills of each beverage I could get without being charged more. Was that really necessary? As for the food (and I'm amazed I was still in the cafe at this point), I ordered a cafe staple, chicken fried steak with gravy, mashed potatoes, and green beans. The chicken fried steak was a pre-breaded frozen patty that was just dropped in the deep fryer. The gravy was just a white sauce. The green beans did contain some real bacon, and weren't too bad for canned green beans. But, when canned green beans are the highlight of a meal, that doesn't speak well of the quality of the meal. read more

UPDATE: I was extremely disappointed with Judys this last week. For this to be a home cooked meal diner - everything seems frozen. I ordered the chicken fried chicken breakfast with eggs and hash browns. I was hoping for a homemade chicken fried chicken...instead I got Tysons chicken patty thrown In a fryer....I literally have the same exact chicken patty in my freezer at home. The hash browns taste like they were cooked yesterday and re heated in the microwave. I don't think I'll be back for a long while. Judy's has been around since I was a kid, I remember coming here for my 16th birthday dinner...many many birthdays ago . This is a hometown favorite with home cooked country cooking! The staff is always friendly. My favorite oddly enough is the fried zucchini. Breakfast is what keeps me coming back here. I really enjoy the small town feel of the place. Waitresses are usually super friendly. Good food portions and pricing is descent here. I have had several of there breakfast variations and have enjoyed them all. The sausage they use in there patties is the best ever! Also this last time there I had a breakfast sausage link which to my surprise was like a hot link. It definitely had a breakfast taste and not a dinner taste to it. Nice and spicy too. Love this place so much! Every time we come up from Austin to visit family we all go and eat here for breakfast. They are so friendly there and couldn't be more helpful. I have only been there 4 times and they already know my order and the rest of my families orders. I especially love LeAnne the waitress. She is an angel. She looks out for my grandpa who lives there and comes there regularly. Everyone there is so nice and the town is lucky to have this place. The food was amazing! True story: I'm at Judy's Cafe on Camp Wisdom Rd in Duncanville, TX. I order the pancake special, which comes with bacon. I like bacon, a lot of bacon. So I order an additional side order...of bacon. The waitress brings my plate of eggs and pancakes, with the bacon on the plate. She also brings an additional plate with only my extra side order of bacon. As usual, I said "I'll make some room and just slide this extra bacon on my plate, so you can take the extra dish back with you". So I move the bacon (using my hands) over to my "main dish" and begin to enjoy my breakfast. A few minutes later, the waitress returns and says; "I need to count your bacon strips, cause' I think we accidentally gave you three orders of bacon instead of just the two". It took me a second to process what this lady was actually saying, because I never gave it any thought. I just assumed the original bacon count on my first plate was one order. I was wrong. So she literally counts out loud and then says "yep, you got too much bacon". So being that I've been in similar circumstances before, I assumed she would simply say something like "Oh well, that's our mistake, enjoy the extra bacon". Again...I was wrong. She then asked me to put the bacon BACK on another dish so she could take it back to the kitchen. In a dumbfounded daze, I complied. When she returned a couple minutes later, I said "You do realize I handled that bacon with my own hands, right?" She says, "Oh I'm sure they'll figure it out, or maybe they'll just throw it away". John and I both looked at each other and immediately said the same thing; "figure what out, and why throw it away?!" So we watched as she returned the bacon back to the counter and handed it over to the cook, who slid it back into the abyss of Judy's Cafe. We then watched as the staff all seemed to be interested in this event. They were all talking about it and the common idea being discussed between them was that "Well, if he wanted the extra bacon he could've just asked us to add it to the bill". SERIOUSLY!? She then returned one last time to give us the bill and I guess she could see that the whole event had us both feeling a little confused and awkward. So she tried to put our worries to rest by saying; "Don't worry, I think she dropped that bacon back on the bottom of the deep fryer". So one of two things is true. 1) They made a mistake and gave me three extra slices of bacon and decided they would rather it go in the trash as opposed to letting me eat it without paying for it, thereby making the customer extremely happy, while the net loss to them is the exact same as throwing it away. 2) They actually recycled the bacon that I had already handled and served it to someone else. For the record, I've been coughing up phlegm for days and sneezing and so on, but hey I'm sure it went back into the "bottom of the fryer" so it's all good. In either case, they confirmed a belief long held by friends and family in this area. If you want a great breakfast (and one that didn't come off of someone else's plate) go to Kim and Jenny's Cafe on Wheatland Rd instead. read more

On the windows are big, hand-painted signs declaring the evening special for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. We've always wanted to know if their evening special would be as down-home as you'd figure. On Friday, we found out--Yes! In the best way. My husband ordered the Catfish (fresh fried, with lightly flavored breading--letting the natural goodness of the fish come through), with homemade cornbread (corny, and not too sweet), and homemade fried corn nuggets (awesome, awesome). He thought the tartar sauce must be homemade because it didn't taste anything like the typical stuff of everywhere else. I selected Meatloaf from the board (I'm new to the dish, but I enjoyed it), with pinto beans (kinda' healthy, actually), and fresh fried zucchini (so Fall! really good with its thin, seasoned batter). Our waitress even invited us to enjoy the fresh coffee she had brewed, even after it got time for closing. So we had a great evening meal at Judy's. I came here over a year ago. All I can say is...if you're a foodie, don't come here. It will absolutely disappoint you. Restaurant looks dirty even though it really isn't all that bad. It just looks dirty. We'll it's not located in a great spot. You can wash your laundry next door or pawn items too. It's in a beat up shopping center. The food was just your regular run of the mill stuff. Nothing fancy. Nothing special. The people who come here appear to be older regulars. They keep this place pumping with enough cash to keep it going. That's my theory. Come here if you have no other choice. The food won't kill you and don't expect a great experience. The Denver omelette was pretty filled as its wrapped in a crepe like egg, lots of cheese (dare I say a bit much).
