Went on break to grab a smoothie at the Jamba Juice I thought existed near the Blockbuster (there is no such Jamba Juice there anymore) so I headed over to the locally-owned Juice Appeal instead. J.A. is a small but inviting smoothie shop filled with health-conscious snacks and treats. I was immediately greeted by the smiling server and asked my order. I came here on a saturday afternoon. Ordered a Green Buzz never got my drink. They have a horrible system for orders. They don't take your name or number, and soley rely on drink names. Which means when they get over crowed, if someone ordered the same thing, they can snatch it befor you get a chance. So, someone took my drink. And when I ask the clerk he tried to make it my fault for not paying attention. I was so mad I left. Never coming here again. read more

Went there for the first time today and got the Energizer, which is a strawberry-banana smoothie with ginseng and protein. It was fresh, nice and cold, and good texture. Service was fine, and I really liked the look of the store; it's a little corner store on Kittredge, and it stands out. They actually grow their own wheatgrass. First off, this is the first time I've actually felt the need to post a review. Sure, I've had all types of experiences in the food/service industry but never one so bad that I felt the need to write a review. Today I brought my partner and his mom to this juice establishment in Berkeley. There was one table with two chairs each (both were empty) and since there were three of us (and we planned on having one more person join us), my partner moved the chairs from an empty table over to the table we were at. He was asked not to move the chair so he stopped moving it and went inside to ask if there was another chair or option. (Note that we were with a person with a disability who needed to sit). I understand that establishments have policies and rules and that maybe the chair simply couldn't be moved because of that. However, the situation was escalated when I politely asked for a refund since they were unable to accommodate us. We ordered an acai bowl and we didn't want to eat them standing up outside. My partner asked if there was another chair in the back we could use to sit on or even a bucket and without regard or consideration for what we were saying we were told "nope we don't do that". I asked if I could please speak to a manager or anyone else and the worker said that she was the manager and the only person I could talk to. Her name was Olivia. She then handed me the number for the store and I asked if there was an email or anyone else I could contact and she said very rudely that they don't give the owners number out. Obviously I didn't think I would get a hold of the owner, but I did think that I should have the right to email or leave a message for another manager explaining the situation and that we were with someone who had a disability. I asked once more if I could please have a refund for the acai bowl, which we were unable to eat and she said "no". I responded by saying that I felt this was poor customer service and she replied with "I THINK YOU'LL SURVIVE". Never in all my years of dining have I ever heard such a sassy and disrespectful response from someone working in the customer service. Speaking as a former employee and manager in the food industry for over seven years in Hawaii, I must say that I've never experienced this type of treatment from a worker in customer service. I really hope that this behavior is addressed. It was disappointing especially being on a vacation. read more

definitely better than Jamba Juice which is located across the street from Juice appeal...my favorite are citrus and strawberry loyal ..YUMMY!! around 3pm or so, the store is sometimes packed with school kids, who seem impatient to wait for what they ordered and grab your drink by mistake at the counter. while enjoying the fresh smoothie, you can walk around and shop at the little plaza such as Rite Aid, Albertsons, Blockbusters..etc it's located in a nice neighborhood and if you stop by Monteclair, you definitely should one of smoothie at Jiuce Appeal. read more

I gave these people more than one chance. They are crooks!! I ordered carrot and beets juice. The first time, I thought that I had not seen well when I saw the attendant who was making the juice pour water, yes plain water. I thought that it was just me. However, I went back another day and I saw her putting water to my juice. Furthermore, I paid $4.00 for extra spirulina. She only put half of what she was supposed to. I called it to her attention. She said that what she had done cost $4.00. I pointed to the display and she did not say anything else but gave me a full shot. The kind of cute girls have their own agenda. They act like thieves. I used to come here all the time before and left very generous tip. I came in on a Sunday afternoon with my bf, and the unfriendly blonde girl who took our orders gave me such an ATTITUDE. I just ordered some juice and wheat grass shots which couldn't be served any more. She gave me a bad attitude and go on and on which and which machines were shut down before closing. All she could have said was being apologetic to me saying the machine has been shut down. would be understandable. I used to go here a lot when the previous owner worked here (older man), because his drinks were consistently good and his service was quick and efficient. When I went in recently, there were two women working and the one at the cash register was having a conversation with a guy who was not a customer. When I walked in, he saw me and said, "oh, I'm not ordering anything", then looked like he was going to get out of the way so I could place my order, however, the woman behind the counter continued the conversation with him for a few more minutes, not even acknowledging that she had a customer. It took so long, in fact, that I almost turned around and walked out because I was in a hurry & she clearly didn't need my business. But I stuck around and eventually got served. The drink was sub-par compared to how the older guy used to make them - no ice, lukewarm, & unfiltered with strips of pulpy carrot & beet strings. I stopped by here once to get a smoothie because it is super close to my bus stop and I needed to kill some time and I've always just walked by it with mild interest. I also am kind of obsessed with finding ways to incorporate more vegetables/fruits into my diet so I was interested in their veggie shakes. I ended up getting a "sunrise" shake which include carrots, beets, apples, and ginger. Now I need to get into a bit of a random sidenote...ginger is one of those foods that I always think I would like if it's not used in Chinese cooking, but I'm always deadly wrong. I don't know why I think that drinking ginger juice is so appealing, but I always fall for it. The shake itself was good, but the ginger was way too strong and I honestly couldn't really tell what I was drinking besides spicy ginger. I think I'll definitely try more of their drinks without ginger next time...but Juice Appeal is convenient, quick, and healthy so it's definitely doing its job! read more

I LOVE this place. I come in frequently for fresh juice. The orange carrot is really good. I don't normally like to eat a lot of carrot so it's a good way to get vitamin A in and when it is mixed with the orange it tastes really tropical and yummy. The only issue is that they only take cash, so make sure you bring cash. read more

I am not sure if this is the only place in Berkeley that specializes in juice and smoothies but there isn't much option around this area for sure, at least this is the only one that I know. They have a very extensive menu and the drinks come in two sizes, 16oz and 24oz. A little overpriced in my opinion for an OK smoothie, doesn't taste incredibly fresh and flavorful but not bad. I think they tend to put in too much ice though, and they use fruit juice to blend so watch out the extra sugar if that is your concern. I totally agree with another review that service can be friendlier. It was not busy when I walked in but the workers looked annoyed and impatient. read more

It's awesome that they have Acai bowls, but they should really be using fresh fruit vs. frozen fruit because I can make an acai bowl at home with frozen fruit any time. A lot of these ratings are very old and I feel as though Juice Appeal deserves some new and better ratings. They have taken all of previous comments into consideration and have updated many of their menu options. The acai bowls are no longer topped with frozen fruit, but fresh organic fruit that is arranged beautifully and is very appealing to the eye and stomach. They have introduced many new smoothies WITHOUT frozen yogurt to offer a more healthy variety, and even have more veggie/fruit smoothie options. Although this place is a bit high priced, I think that you definitely get what you pay for. The options are much healthier than what I have had at Jamba Juice and some of the prices are actually cheaper than Jamba Juice. Overall, I think Juice Appeal deserves some higher ratings and it is somewhere I will definitely be going back! Not to mention, everyone that worked there was really accommodating with helping me find what I was looking for (considering they have SO MANY OPTIONS), and had a really nice personality. read more

This is my second visit to Juice Appeal. I would normally award the juices/smoothies 5/5, however, the 1/5 is for the poor customer service I received today. P......was serving me and I asked him a question about 2 items the difference between whole apples/apple concentrate juice on the menu. O...was rude, intrusive and disrupted our conversation as is P.....was incapable of speaking or hard of hearing/ or mute. She loudly told me what the ingredients and the prices were. I told her I did not need to know the prices. Immediately, her body stiffened like a frozen popsicle, her eyes rolled and she moved back. She was quite shaken that I had commented on her words. Also, nobody knew where the business license was kept! Products are fantastic..O...customer service/teamwork effort needs vast improvement in not how to belittle coworkers in front of customers and not to make feeble efforts to belittle customers in front of other customers or co-workers. read more

The smoothies are alright but many of them made with frozen yogurt, the service is okay, and they're cash only, which can just be inconvenient. Açai bowls were to my surprise topped with FROZEN FRUIT and not real fruit. As someone who has had their fair share of Açai bowls, this was the first time I have experienced anyone doing this. It seemed like a no brainer to top it with real fruit, not the frozen fruit you use to blend the smoothie part. Who would actually make an Açai bowl like this and sell it for $10? It tasted awful. They also seemed to have just squeezed a dollop of honey onto it, rather then mixing it together with it... You can get a better açao bowl in the city for a few dollars more but at least then you'll actually get real fruit and a much bigger serving. read more

Juice Lovers Beware- Juice Appeal just lost its appeal. I've been stopping by for years, for great juice smoothies, but not anymore after my recent experience. Just left an absolute bad taste in my mouth. Something that goes hand and hand with good food, smoothies, etc. is good service. Some businesses don't realize that apparently, when hiring staff. I walked in expecting friendly staff, with awesome smiles, because over the years, that the experience I had, One of the main reasons, I kept going back... for great smoothies AND great customer service. Well, not anymore... on this particular day, a young woman took my order, and from the moment she saw me, it was obvious she was behaving in a very uncomfortable/unfriendly manner. I thought, ok, maybe she's just having a bad day. But while waiting for my smoothie, I noticed she seem perky and friendly with the other customers, but when finally my smoothie was ready, she handed it to me with the same sullen voice and facial expression she demonstrated when I walked in. So then I thought why is she so uncomfortable and unfriendly towards me ??? And that's the moment 'when the light came on' and I thought to myself... Is this a racial issue ???? Just to share, I'm african american and the other customers were not... Food for thought... read more

I love this place and visit multiple times per week. In terms of selection, flavor and quality they definitely get 5 stars. The 4 star rating is for other inconveniences which I will discuss below. As an avid juicer, and one who has done several juice cleanses, this place has literally saved me on many occasions. Everything on the menu is delicious. The menu is simple and not overwhelming yet extensive, creative and well thought out. A few complaints I have is they close at 6pm even in summer and warm weather days. A suggestion would be to stay open until 7 or 8. Secondly THEY ONLY TAKE CASH as payment. PLEASE START TAKING DEBIT/CC PAYMENTS!!! This is a pretty major inconvenience. My last complaint is that they stop serving at 530 pm, 30 minutes before the states closing time, to start cleaning the equipment. But overall I love this place and I am very very thankful for its existence :-) read more
