Caveat: I did not order a burger. I ordered the butterfly shrimp, which was smaller than I expected and a bit oily. The fries were okay. I should have heeded the warning of another reviewer because the exact same thing happened to me: the person handling condiments did not wash their hands or wear gloves when transitioning from handling payment. He also touched the inside of the condiment container and lid. I guess I was hoping that management saw the previous review and instructed staff accordingly. At least the cook was wearing gloves. Passed the place a handful of times and decided to give it a whirl. Bacon Cheeseburger and Super Juicy Cheeseburger were very good. Not only do they ask how you want it cooked, they assembly line customize it for you like at a Subway. My knock off of stars came from the poutine fries. The gravy didn't have much flavor and consisted almost entirely of mushrooms (which I've never seen for poutine before). When I say a lot of mushrooms, I mean they really covered it. However, my personal experience there yesterday was downright unsatisfactory, and I can't see awarding any more than 2 stars. I'll be generous and start with the Good: I ordered the marinated grilled chicken combo, and the sandwich was excellent -- well marinated, cooked just right, and scrumptious. The fries (shoe-string type) could have been more original, but were totally acceptable. Now let's proceed to the Bad and the Ugly: 1. I ordered the combo to-go, meaning that the drink was to-go, along with the sandwich. Believe it or not, the restaurant didn't have lids for cups (!!!). Therefore, I was compelled to drink as much as I could in the restaurant, lest I spill a relatively full cup of soda in my car and create a huge mess. Kind'a defeats the purpose of a take-out order, wouldn't you say? Have you ever frequented an eatery with to-go orders that was devoid of lids? I hope this was an exception that day only, because it was and is completely unacceptable. 2. The fries were placed directly in a paper bag -- no box or plastic container. As a consequence, the bag was soaked with grease when I arrived home. 3. Thank goodness I didn't need to use the restroom, as it was out of order. 4. The soda wasn't the usual self-serve type found in fast-food and casual restaurants. Therefore, customers must call on staff to refill drinks. For my order, though, it didn't matter, since the restaurant didn't have any lids for cups anyway. 5. While the workers weren't unfriendly, they weren't friendly either. I didn't feel welcome and valued as a customer. When I entered the restaurant, there were absolutely NO customers. I should have trusted my instincts right then and there and made a quick exit. I was excited to try this place since I've driven by here so many times. Finally I went in to try it. The menu was impressive but I'm just shocked at the price for a cheeseburger. It's pretty much when you eat a lot of food and afterwards, you feel like sleeping because all the blood is rushing to your stomach to digest the food. I ate a late lunch and came here to try out. I ordered the Mega Juicy Cheeseburger (3/4 lbs), small fries, and a drink for $12.09. That broke into the "expensive" category for burgers but it was worth it for me. There were different burger sizes: Juicy, Super Juicy, and Mega Juicy. My brother ordered the Mega Juicy Cheeseburger and added mushrooms as well as fries and drink so he paid over $13. They asked how I'd like my burger cooked so I told them I wanted it medium-well. That's how I like my steak, too! I think the price ranged from $4.19 and up for burgers by themselves. There were combos too but those were for the Juicy Burgers instead of the Super or Mega Juicy Burgers. They had a mini-condiment bar where you can customize your burger the way you want it. They only cook the burger (meat) and you add whatever your desire. The condiments consist of lettuce, onions, tomatoes, pickles, and a few others. Also, they had ketchup, mustard, sriracha sauce, mayonnaise, Tabasco Sauce, and some others. I kept my burger simple and added lettuce, tomatoes, ketchup, and mustard; however, I just threw everything on so it looked messy. The burger wasn't juicy but it was pretty good. After I finished my burger, I was already full but slowly ate through my small fries. BTW, small fries was already a lot so if you order large fries, then double food coma. The fries were okay to me, but I recommend dipping them with ketchup or anything. There was a sign on the soda dispenser thing that said there was only one free refill. I don't know how much it was for a refill after that but I don't think you need to refill more than 2 times. They also had a flat screen tv hanging right above the trash area. "It was all a dream, I used to read Word Up magazine." (Shout out to Notorious B.I.G for the Juicy song lyrics). Let me paint the picture for you, my Yelp friends. I was hungry...bordering on hangry. I don't usually like a burger from any place other than home because I like to lettuce wrap it and have all kinds of high maintenance demands that I am embarrassed to order at a restaurant. However, today I decided to go for it. I decided to eat an actual burger at a low key kind of place....and yes, eat it with a bun! I searched Yelp for hours (probably 10 minutes) and picked out a spot. I am new to San Jose so I correctly assumed it would take 15 minutes to get there like everywhere in this city takes. I got to the place and there was a tiny sign on the door that said "Closed from January 1st-January 7th." I almost died...and then I almost really died because the area was sketch. Enter Juicy Burger... Juicy did not pop up on my original search early on because of the distance from my house. Since I was at this other place though, it miraculously appeared. After calling my husband and almost crying about my burger fiasco (I know, I am lucky to have this problem) he told me to get on over to Juicy. I walked in to the place and the seats were packed. People know a good burger when they get one! I was able to walk up and order our lunch and dinner for the day! 1) bacon cheeseburgers 2) fries 3) onion rings 4) chili 5) steak sandwich Thanks to another Yelpers tip, I asked for some boxes to pack up my condiments at the awesome condiment bar! Pickles are my top condiment and they had not one,but two different cuts! They also had some big pieces of lettuce which I grabbed in case we needed to lettuce wrap those bad boys. They also had to-go ramekins for BBQ sauce and all the other sauces you might need. Total for all that amazingness? $39.84. My husband had given me two twenties so I was excited I didn't have to come out of pocket. When I told him the total he quoted Home Alone and said "Keep the change you filthy animal." I had to laugh at that one. The burger was super juicy and the bun had a nice flavor since they grill it before adding it to the meat. The bacon was crisp and not greasy. Onion rings were perfectly cooked. How do you tell if a place knows how to cook an onion ring, you ask? Well, if undercooked, the onion wiggles out of the ring on the first couple of bites. That was not the case here! The hubby liked the fries. I am not a big fries fan unless they are super skinny so I trust his word. Sandwich and chili were both great dinner items. I didn't have to leave the house the rest of the day! I will definitely be back to this wonderful dining establishment. They have great food at a low price point. My daughter looked this place up and since we were in that area she decided to give this place a try. So we found out that you can build your own burger the way you prefer or you can pick a meal which comes with a fry and drink and whatever burger you decide to choose. They break it up where it fit on your patty. I prefer having regular bacon that sticks out on your patty meat. To start with we are from out of town and staying for a few nights at the Hayes Mansion Hotel to enjoy their pool and getaway. The hotel recommended the place, We called ahead and ordered four burgers (one with grilled mushrooms), fries, their fried zucchini and a cheesyburger (like a grilled cheese on a burger bun, for a kid who refused to eat a burger). Not a good sign the woman on the phone didn't even know what the cheesyburger was and that i had to explain it was on their menu. Arrived, and was the only customer, and two fairly grumpy middle aged women brought the food out - burgers were cooked, and left open in clamshells while I paid, which took a while, they were cooling off the whole time - then turned to adding the condiments and fixings as they do there. Selection was fine if uninspiring, but there was something about the way they just plopped the toppings on that was dispiriting - like clearly not caring. About this time i realized they got the swiss cheese and cheddar on the burgers messed up - meaning three of us would be eating food different than ordered. Not a big deal although annoyed since she repeated the order to me over the phone. Then realized the "cheesyburger" was exactly ONE slice of american cheese on a burger bun. Not only was it depressing, it was an insult at $3.99. More like "barely cheesy burger". Insult to injury there were no zucchini fries - again an item we had repeated on the phone, As an final "we don't care about your meal" the fries were thrown in with no offer of condiments - no ketchup or anything. One star for the grilled mushrooms being good, and the burgers themselves were okay. This place is not what it use to be, each time I try to visit I hate it more and more this time they finally lost my service after being a customer for the past 15 years. I called for a burger to-go gave my order and they asked when I would be there. I said I am 5 minutes away, then I called back immediately because I realized she didn't ask how I wanted it cooked, no big deal okay... I walk in about 7-8 minutes of placing my order and no one is to be seen. No customers, no one at the register, and no one on the grill. I don't see any to go orders and I stand there having to call out for someone to come up front. I ask if my order was started yet and they say no.... This place has gone downhill. The burger meat has been changed, again, and most of the staff have changed, again. I used to eat here 2 times a week, but every silly change they make, whether it's adding a "loyalty card" promotion, or changing the menu to include more fried items to increase profits.....too much. I used to be the "duke" here, now I won't even go in. The simple menu, reliable service and consistent food were why I came here. The service has gone down hill. The friendly regular faces have been replaced by an awkward and loud mouthed "manager." It saddens me to see small businesses go down the toilets like this. Anything in the name of a nickel.
