Lemon soup taste a little odd
    Henry M.

This diner has such a cool 50's vibe and theme going on, we came here for a dinner party. I had fried chicken wings, onion rings, and breaded cheese sticks for hors d'oeuvres with a ranch dipping sauce. 3.5 stars. For dinner I had a Philly cheesesteak with a side of aju, veggies, and lemon soup. The veggies were BLAND 2 stars, the lemon soup tasted odd to me but adding the crackers and pepper helped, 3 stars. The Philly while it looks unassuming was actually quite good and the bread was soft and perfectly moist, dipping the sandwich in the aju make the sandwich even better "I'd definitely order this sandwich again 4 stars. To drink I had all I could drink ice tea with fresh lemon, the flavor was a little on the lighter side but still good 3 stars. For dessert I had apple pie ala mode. The pie was perfectly warm, super tasty and paired well with the ice cream, "of course" 4.5 stars. Our waiter had a memory like a steel trap, he got all our orders right, his attention to detail was outstanding and so was his service 5++ stars. Overall with the ambience, food and service, I solid think 3 stars is fair. I'll definitely be back to try their shakes with another Philly cheesesteak.

Cool little diner with nostalgic decor. Lots of food choices. I went for the chili cheese dog. Very flavorful and they make their chili fresh in house. Staff was friendly too.

The place is so pretty and decorations are so cool. Got sat really quickly and got drinks were given immediately. Food took about 15 mins to come out. Our server, Jazmin, was very sweet and attentive. Had a good experience !

I stopped by one morning for breakfast, it is a classic diner with the food they serve and the interior as well. I got their breakfast combo for $10 that lets you pick what 3 items you'd like. I got the hash browns, scrambled eggs and pancakes. Nothing too special, but it's affordable breakfast food. Food came out quickly and there are definitely regulars that come here. Staff know their regulars well.

Been working through the menu and differing times of day. Today was ham and cheese omelette, country potatoes, pancakes and orange juice. Service, cleanliness, clientele etc all on point. Will return sooner than later.

We loved their nostalgic ambiance and enjoyed their foods. Services were friendly and attentive, refilled coffee often and make sure you have everything you needed.

came here because a friend said the milkshakes are amazing. that is the only good thing about this place. the food is nothing worth talking about and lacked seasoning. it's a typical 50s themed diner & saw a lot of families there which was sweet.

I'm not going to spend a lot of time doing a review. I was on the hunt for a good milkshake and I found it! I got a hamburger to go along with it and it was huge and good! I left a happy girl, what more can I say?

City Diner is a casual diner/breakfast place in San Jose near the Los Gatos Creek Trail. It's known for its milkshakes and unique decorations. They offer a $10 pick 3 breakfast combo and a diverse variety of breakfast foods. The service is great - our waiter topped off our coffee quickly and was very nice/accommodating. The savory food itself was a bit expensive and flavorless but could be fixed with s&p and ketchup. The pancakes were super fluffy and sized well.

A friend and I found this place about 2 1/2 years ago and we love it. I almost always get the steak sandwich and have never been disappointed with my choice. My friend changes things up and had tried many different things. (Tuna melt, Philly Steak, and many breakfasts) and she has loved all of it. Service is great and staff if friendly.

They had some Fanime specials for the con (katsu and egg salad sandwiches, spam musubi), seasonal drinks, of course coffees and teas, and non caffeinated drinks, as well as some food too (heated up pastries, both sweet and savory). There's a restroom with a code and a couple seats and tables with outlets to charge your devices. Service was welcoming and efficient especially after the crowds started to pick up. I got the: 1) Egg Salad Sando: -You can tell these were handmade in store. They had cute washi tape to hold the packaging together. -Solid egg salad sandwich. Slightly sweet white bread and generous amount of egg salad inside the sandwich. Creamy mayo taste that isn't too sour or tart, lots of egg in it. Perfect for an anime con next door. 2) Cappuccino: -I got this no sugar and sugar free and it came out with some pretty latte art. I thought it was mostly ok and boyfriend thought so too, but after several sips and when it was too late since we really had to get to the con, it just became too disgustingly sweet for him and he had to throw it away. 3) Yuzu Fresh Fruit Sparkler: -Yuzu puree with sparkling soda water. -Refreshing and not bad, but even after mixing this was a bit sweeter than what I would have liked and again, in our rush to leave, we couldn't really get this adjusted. I ended up pouring most of it in a water bottle to enjoy later and put in my bag. But ended up not finishing it in the end. Maybe next year I'll try again or just stick to the food stuffs.

When walking, we missed the restaurant initially because this place is clearly, a hidden gem, especially being hidden along the nightclub strip. We were blown away by the curated vibes. From the thoughtful decor to The Office being projected on the wall. It felt hip, fresh and refined. We decided to craft our own drinks - Arnold Palmers, his favorite. But they only had sparkling lemonade, which actually made it even better. We shared a salad that had some cooked pears and squash alongside the greens, walnuts, cranberries and blue cheese. I do feel like the cooked sweet elements overpowered the salad with their sweetness and textures a bit. Wondering if a refreshing pear for crunch or more dressing could have brightened it up and provided a salty, sweet balance. I ordered the Short Ribs with a parsnip purée and roasted carrots and it did not disappoint. Everything paired beautifully together, perfectly salted and cooked. I finished the entire plate. Dad got the Pork Chop and while it was overcooked, he loved the flavors happening in the dish and was pleasantly surprised by the refreshing treatment of the kale. The staff was attentive and very friendly. Overall a great experience. We would definitely come back!

The sauce on the side complimented it very well but not necessary as the flavor of the steak was great by itself. I ordered a strawberry mimosa, as well. It was really lacking for me. (Have not been inside) I ordered the steak chilaquiles, and I'd give them a 8.5/10. The flavors were really good, the sauce was delicious, and I liked the addition of the eggs, avocado, and queso. My only complaint was the steak. I ordered it medium rare, but it came out medium well, a bit dry and was tougher than expected, making it difficult to cut. It was still tasty--just not cooked quite the way I was hoping. The mimosas were good too, a great value. Nothing that really stood out as amazing, but definitely nothing bad about them either--they got the job done. What really elevated the experience was the service. Our server Rebecca was attentive, knowledgeable, kind, and incredibly quick throughout the meal. They checked in at the right times, answered our questions confidently, and made us feel well taken care of without ever being overbearing.
