A super popular xiao long bao (xlb) place right in the middle of dt Toronto and for good reason. Good xlb among other dishes and super affordable. Aka i'm tired of paying $10+ for 8 subpar xlb, looking at you din tai fung. Definitely a quick pick up and go type of place. Minimal seating and quick working staff, don't expect actual service. But food was great, definitely over ordered to see what all the hype was about. The xlb and the pan fried xlb hit the spot for me. Juicy, not too hot, and flavorful. At ~$1 for 2 now its definitely a good snack or easy to order extra and make a full meal. The pan fried buns were pretty good too. One of the better ones I've had outside of shao may in monterey park. The cumin chicken was good too. I expected popcorn chicken style but these were whole pieces of chicken so be warned, def not a snack. The black sesame tong yuan were a pass for me, not great not bad but with all the other dessert options around, def not needed. The name says it all... it is definitely juicy! Ordered the S1 and P1, and I was surprised each dumpling was full of delicious soup! The skin wasn't too thick, and it held all the flavours. I enjoyed P1 more than S1 as the pan friend style gave it more texture. I would say, the soup is a tad greasy though. This is no Din Tai Fung, but for the price, it can't be beaten. The cheapest dumplings offered are the XLB ast $3.99 for 6 pieces, and the prices go up from there. We tried the XLB, juicy pork dumplings, fried chicken dumplings, and fried shumai which were all delicious. I recommend eating them right after you get them to get the freshest taste. Tip: Clip a small opening towards the top of the dumpling then suck out the soup from inside - best way to get the soup. Then you can eat the rest of the dumpling. I found it to be light and filling at the same time. I also ordered P3: Pan Fried Juicy Buns. I found this to be a traditional buns. The pork inside was fresh and delicious. It tasted a bit oily however not overwhelming that it ruins the overall taste. You do not need to dip it any soy sauce or anything - just enjoy as is. My husband and I loved their veggie and soup dumplings. My meat eating husband loved the bursting soup dumplings in his mouth. He was excited like a child every time he had one of the dumplings. The price is unbeatable - $2.69 for 6 filling dumplings is a steal. My veggie spinach and mushroom bao buns were pretty great too. I ordered the shitake mushroom bao and was slightly disappointed that it hardly had mushroom and it was mostly spinach. But the bao buns were pretty huge, filling and tasty. Got P1 - pan fried mini soup dumplings. They were pretty good, but really they were just pan fried versions of steamed mini soup dumplings. While the skin was thin enough & they were juicy & tasty, what worked for steamed dumplings didn't quite work for pan fried ones: though only cursorily panfried, the skin on some broke & the juices inside leaked out. Just go for the normal dumplings - they're almost certainly better & $1 cheaper too (making them a real steal). If you're in the mood for something fried, go for pan fried juicy buns, since those are meant to be fried. Since pandemic times, I've been once (back in September) - and happy to say they are still open for take out via walk-in or food apps. The sesames sprinkled on top and the slightly sweet dough give it a different texture from it's steamed cousin. I have also tried their steamed buns in the past and found them to be good. Sesame seed ball (the type served at dim sum) are delicious BUT you have to wait FOREVER for that one. So only order if you have time to wait...The fried green onion pancake is a bit too greasy for me. I'd skip that one. I was in Toronto for 6 days for a work event (that had food sometimes), and came here 4 times (just walked from the convention center). I got the standard pork XLB (soup dumplings) each time, but also tried their shumai, shrimp/pork wontons in spicy soup (AMAZING), and fried XLB. It's so good. What I have back home (in the DMV area - DC, MD, VA) is Bob Shanghai, which albeit is better and bigger dumplings with more soup, but also 4x the price. 3.99 CAD came out to be 3.07 USD for 6 dumplings... it's like 13USD for 6 dumplings at Bob Shanghai. So, that's why Juicy Dumplings gets 5 stars. If I lived close by, I'd come here regularly. If I lived really close by, I just might come here daily (and eat vegetables at home). There are tables and a food bar by the window you can stand to eat. You order at the counter and they give you one of those buzzer things to tell you the food's ready. The service is quite fast, although all the times I've come, there hasn't been a big line bc I try to come during off-peak hours (what I think is off-peak hours anyway!!) of just when it's opening, or 1p to not be in the lunch rush. Credit card accepted! A couple of areas for improvement: I hate that there is so much waste - wish there were dishes or something, so I wasn't throwing away containers all the time. Not gonna lie, when Simu Liu chose this as one of the spots for some good eats, I was skeptical as my native friend who lives in TO says there are simply better Chinese food in Markham and Richmond. For the price, you probably cannot beat this spot. For what you're paying, the portion size is decent and extremely filling. This place was recommended to us by almost everyone who lived in Toronto. I do think they were very delicious, but not as "authentic" in the details.
