We visit Waynesville a couple times a year and I have passed by this place (on the motorcycle) dozens of times without a thought of stopping. Then, I heard about the place on Facebook on one of those "unique out of the way places to eat" posts. The post peaked my interest, especially, since I knew exactly where it was, so, I YELPED it and made plans to go. On our last visit to Waynesville, I put it on my cheap places to try list. We had my in-laws in tow, so I'm reporting the opinions of 4 people. My wife and her dad got the country fried steak. They said it was okay, but nothing special and they wouldn't get it again. My MIL and I both got the Meatloaf sandwich. I got mine on a hoagie bun and my MIL got hers on Texas toast. We both enjoyed our meatloaf sandwiches. Mine was worth going back for another. My MIL also enjoyed half of hers and gave me the other half. The Hoagie bun was definitely the better decision. This is a cheap diner with cheap diner food. The atmosphere is just what it looks like in the pictures and it's exactly what we were looking for. The staff is very friendly. Our waitress tried to sell us some of their homemade desserts, but, unfortunately we already had ingredients and plans for an apple tart, back at the cabin. We will definitely visit this place again, on our next trip. I'll get another meatloaf sandwich, (it was really outstanding) my wife will get something other than the fried steak and we'll both grab a couple of those good looking homemade desserts they had in their display case. We spend a lot of money eating out, when we travel, so I always sprinkle in a couple of cheap places, in order to afford a few pricier, more upscale places. This place is exactly what you should expect after reading the reviews and viewing the pics. I'll try to remember to get some pics next time. read more

We just finished having lunch here at this 50's diner. They had the best hamburgers and hamburger steak dinners. The meat was moist and full flavor. French fries were crinkle cut which are our favorite. Hush puppies and fried okra delicious. Pepsi products here and they were delicious. So many fountain drinks aren't mixed right and taste terrible but this place has great fountain drinks! Service was great and staff were friendly. 3 of us at for like $36 so that's a bonus. The restaurant also serves hand dipped ice cream and shakes. They have homemade pies for dessert. They have a few picnic tables outside next to the river and some beautiful flowers read more

Been here a couple times now, and this place is definitely a good one to visit. Service was fast and friendly both times, and the ambiance feels like an old-time cafe from before my time (or from Fallout, lol). Food was decent the first time, and much better the second. You don't find many places like this anymore, very classic diner type, pictures of Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, cars and betty boop. My grandparents used to take me to places like this all the time so it was very nostalgic for me. They have a decent menu and lots of dessert options (ice cream, pie, cobbler, milkshakes). Is it the best most flavored food ever? Probably not. But it's good and the staff was kind and it's a timeless place. Hope you guys stay open a long time. read more

Since my first review of Jukebox Junction I have eaten there more times than I would like to admit. My church hiking group just ate there yesterday (a Tuesday afternoon) for a late lunch. We had a big group of guys and were seated right away. Most of us ordered separate checks and the waitress was not fazed at all. We ordered large burgers, mushroom and Swiss burgers, hot dogs, fries, onion rings, sodas, and ice cream. Every one of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The food was served pretty quickly (considering the size of our group). Everything was fresh and tasty (as usual). Everyone working there was really friendly and attentive (as usual). read more

What a hidden little Gem located at the base of the mountains in Canton, NC. The exterior of the building matches the blue skies, with white trim, while the inside is inspire by the 50s and 60s which makes this place so adorable. They have a working Jukebox inside, displayed in the middle of the room, while the walls are filled with memorabilia from that time period. The memorabilia contains pictures such as Betty Boop, Elvis, Houdini, I love Lucy, 50s/60s time period cars, Dr Pepper and Coca-Cola metal advertising signs, while the floors are blue/white checkered matching the Blue (white piping) diner booths. When you enter the restaurant you feel like you have gone back in time, and you can't help but smile and want to check everything out. I went here for breakfast, which is served from 7am-11am daily, and was seated immediately. I chose to create my own protein plate using the "sides" options on the menu. My order included eggs, bacon, and sausage, which was really good! They do offer great breakfast plates, which are all $6.99 or less, so great prices too! Others ordered omelets and they looked amazing and filled with goodness. They also offer their "world famous" milkshakes in 12 different flavors, which I would love to try during the summer time. I also saw they have a Buffalo Cheeseburger, which sounds intriguing. The only down side was they serve your food on Styrofoam plates, with plastic silverware. Typically this wouldn't be an issue but the plates were so thin that you cut thru the plate even with a plastic knife, and the plastic silverware was just as poor in quality. I couldn't imagine eating a dinner meal, such as the Country Fried Steak, with that type of plate and silverware. I guess bc most of their meals are handhelds they don't see the need for quality dish ware but they should definitely purchase better quality dish ware than what they have now. (Reason for 4 stars) since even eating eggs was difficult with the small bendable fork and when cutting up my sausage it cut through the thin plate. I will definitely visit this restaurant again, as it was so adorable and the food we received was tasty! ..including the coffee. read more

I enjoy the motocycle experience of local diners for a hearty meal and friendly staff. Unfortunately what I got was a two small 3x3" preformed prefrozen portions of county fried steak and two basic sides for $14. The buffalo chicken sandwich was also a thin dry bust. The 50's diner theme was nice but the gaping hole in the ceiling and exposed wiring was clearly an intentional way to save money with minimal effort. We really wanted to love this cute little place on the river after coming down off the mountain and a morning exploring the Pisgah National Forest. Most of the off-the-beaten-path local places we have pulled into have produced great homestyle cooking while the (mostly frozen?) food here was underwhelming at best. When I asked what kind of bbq sauce was on the bbq pulled pork (as in gold or?) the response was, "It comes premixed" (which I took to mean not prepared on-site, but I could be wrong). Food wasn't terrible, but not what you're looking for when exploring a place like this that produces some of the best food/bbq in the country. It was extremely budget-friendly. The service was friendly and attentive. Atmosphere was outdated but in a kitschy, typical way. My husband and I used to go here quite a bit. But we haven't been back - here is why... I love ranch dressing with my fries, some sandwiches and so forth. So naturally, I asked for a cup of ranch for my food and when I opened it there was a piece of a french fry and other bits of food in it! When I complained to the waitress, she said they're manager makes them out "unused" cups back in the cooler - even after being served at a table. Plus, there's a huge roach infestation according to several employees. I did see a couple once. The food wasn't disappointing. I loved their chef salad. This was before Covid. I hope the place as cleaned up the pests and stopped "recycling" food. read more

I travel for business almost constantly. Example, 51,000+ mile on the car in 20 months. Because of that, I learned how to look for places like this, and if it's a good place to stop. And that's how I landed here this afternoon. I was NOT disappointed! The lunch special was meatloaf, and a good one, too. It came with cornbread, beans, REAL mashed potatoes and REAL gravy, and great coleslaw. Tonight I skipped eating supper, as I had a good sized meal mid afternoon, that was great. The staff was very friendly and sociable, quick on the refills, and didn't hover, but made sure they were available if we need something. Disposable tableware, napkin dispenser, styrofoam cups? What's wrong with that, especially in a pandemic! C'mon, get real people! I'm not a fan of styrofoam cups, however, I was offered a refill to go, and it is my cup for the remainder of the day. And... I happened to find a recycling container for styrofoam on the way to my hotel in Asheville. So, don't get picky over styrofoam, when you're probably use it once if you have to, and then not even try to find one of the many places that recycle it. Grow up and be completely responsible. This ends the soapbox on previous bad reviews. They need to get their noses out of the air, and join the real world; a real world you obviously do not know, that comes to places like this, and truly enjoy being here. They are also not "stuck up" as pampered others apparently are. I will be back again, possibly tomorrow, as I will be working with the residents of this area recovering from the horrible flooding Fred created. While I know plenty of places to go, I will return here, for the value, cleanliness, welcoming smiles, and the FOOD! I may come for dessert, though, for the meal portions are so big, I had no room for it. Please keep on serving the great food fun, friendly atmosphere, and running a place where my Mother Would want to go. As would my uncle, who is a big corporate CEO, would like to eat. I've never really enjoyed the food here, there club sandwiches are great though. Anything else is just bland, and the price is not worth the quality of food. I stop by to eat there just because it's close out here in the country where I live. The service is usually great and got a 50s atmosphere. My advice is skip this and go to Ammons drive in in Dellwood or Clyde's Restaurant in Hazelwood. read more

So here's the thing - this restaurant has been around for 30+ years. It is a staple of the community. Walking in to it is like a trip back in time. BUT, the point of a restaurant is not only atmosphere, but also the food. Food: I'm a simple girl so I had a plain Cheeseburger with fries, both of which were mediocre at best. My friends had the Country Fried Steak Dinner and the Hillbilly Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich and they seemed to enjoy their meals more than me. One of my friends that had suggested the place had only been there for breakfast before and sang its praises so I think it would be a better option than lunch/dinner (they serve breakfast until 11am). Dessert: Okay, this was my favorite part, I'll be honest. The ice cream was delicious! Service: Unenthusiastic is the best way to describe it. No greeting, just a "what do you want?". No offers of drink refills until we specifically requested it during one of her flybys where she said "you guys want anything?". I've never really had that type of service before so there's that. Bathroom: They have single bathrooms, (no stalls) but they are questionably clean. They do exist, though. Other things of note: They use styrofoam plates/cups and plastic utensils. Aside from the waste/environmental concerns, this was not conducive to my friend being able to cut his Country Fried Steak - he had severe difficulty cutting it and also had to be careful not to cut through the plate. I am unsure why they use all the disposable things, but it detracted from the whole theme of the restaurant. Summary: I would still go here again, but it isn't a go-to recommendation. I went there after hiking up Cold Mountain, and was starving. The food was very average, and as another reviewer points out, the "silverware" they use is weird and bad for the environment. They have teenage kids working who did an okay job but kind of added to the cheap and phony environment. I didn't sample the ice cream. Home for a school reunion. Have eaten here every time I go home. The decor is probably what you would call the 60's. Lots of Elvis, and posters of that era. If you went to school at Bethel in the 60's you may find a picture of you on a table. The restaurant is starting to show some ware, a face lift would help. They do keep it clean and everyone is exceptionally nice. I have only had bacon and eggs for breakfast and hamburger for lunch. Both of these dishes are good. What I like about their hamburger is the bun size tomato. They also have a much better taste than the chain restaurants. I use this place to meet friends for breakfast or lunch as everyone knows where it is. I will definitely be back and tell others this is a good place to get a burger. So why not a 4 or 5. Walk in and you feel like you are back in time. Checkered blue and white tile floors and a jukebox ready to rock n roll. I put a quarter in hoping to listen to some music. Eh.. the atmosphere wasn't the best. A little dingy and worn down and they serve off of plastic stuff. Wobbly tables. And no alcohol! We came in a group of six and everyone was pretty underwhelmed with their food. I had their "large size" pulled pork sandwich, which was decent but not a very large portion at all. I was surprised that it didn't come with fries or anything. Husband had "crappy, rubbery" fried clam strips. I tried a couple fries which were a little bland but all over decent. I also had a root beer float, which was fine. The only part about the meal that I would classify as "great" were the onion rings! They were hot and thick and oh so delicious. In the end though, onion rings are the only thing I would come back for. If you are on vacation and looking for somewhere to go I would suggest heading along down the road to Waynesville, where there are some great options. read more

Food: Served on disposable polystyrene dishes. In addition to being TERRIBLE for the environment, it just adds to the hokey, dingy feeling of the place. The food is slightly below usual diner fair.
