A review much overdue. I went here last July to get my hair done for a wedding. I really, REALLY don't like salons (I have this fear of my hair getting messed with; as a result, I have quite the nest on my head most of the time. I also dislike the small talk, and yes, that does keep me away from certain places. I really enjoyed my experience at Julianne's. No small talk, and everyone was friendly. The guests were pretty nice too, a lot of women of varying ages. I can't remember who did my hair, but she styled my hair in beach waves; and for once, my hair looked amazing. The humidity was absolutely awful that day, but my 'do held from 10:00 until after midnight. The next time I am brave enough to get my hair done again, I'll go back here. read more

I am 2 months pregnant and my doctor told me I could not get my hair dyed until the 1st trimester was over. I have been grey since I was 18 and I desperately needed my hair dyed. I called Juli an asked there if there was anything that she could do. She told me she has a hair dye called Redken Chromatics which has no odor, no ammonia. The doctor said I could do that. I was not expecting it to cover all of the grey but it had excellent gray coverage! I left the salon with shiny brown hair! In town and needed to get my gel taken off quickly. They were able to fit me in on Christmas Eve; I'm especially glad since I called only a few hours before to see if they were open. The place itself was nice, but small and loud on the inside. The customers there seemed like regulars, so I felt pretty good being there for the first time. I visited Julianne's yesterday for a cut and style. I went in with long hair and a picture of a very deep inverted bob. The back just above my shoulders and the front a couple of inches below my chin. I had to remind my stylist again and again about the length I was trying to keep in the front but she just kept cutting. Eventually I told her to stop. She wasn't listening to me and just did her own thing. The owner Juli did come over and try to fix some of it but nothing but time will fix the length. Juli did not charge me for the cut, which was very little consolation for the fact that I absolutely hate my cut and left in tears. And the icing on the cake? Juli's comment: "It'll grow". She took us without an appointment, found the perfect wig for my mom, trimmed it on her head and gave us some really good info for insurance. She also told my mom to come back after chemo when her hair starts filling in and she will cut and style her natural hair as part of it all. JuliAnne made my mom so comfortable. I was in Schaumburg for a couple weeks for work and a coworker and I decided to treat ourself to a pampering girls day on our day off. My coworker found this place through Yelp and made an appointment for both of us, not specifically stating what I was coming in for. When we arrived for our appointment the lady that greeted us started to immediately take me back to a chair, I asked her for a minute to look over their service menu as I wasn't sure what I would be doing. She said that my friend booked me an appointment for a wash, and I told her I definitely wanted a blowout style but would like something else also. After asking a couple questions about their deep conditioning treatments, I selected one of those, which was listed for $18. Long story short, I get the treatment, they blow dry my hair, I go to pay and they tell me it's $64. Seriously?! The owner, Julie, who had been the one to blow dry my hair suddenly became very snappy before I could even ask how they came up with that price and told me that there's an additional charge for long hair. My hair hits right at my shoulders, I wouldn't consider it to be long, and at no point was I told there was an additional charge for this anyways. When I mentioned that, the owner told me I should have mentioned I had long hair when I called to make an appointment...?!? I also had asked the lady who rinsed my hair if I'd still be charged for a wash since I was doing the conditioning, and she told me no. So I was expecting an $18 charge, but I end up getting charged for conditioning + blow dry + long hair??? I'm pretty sure blow drying someone's hair is included with a service that involves wetting it in the first place. My coworker got a cut and a color for $45, which btw, included blowing out her hair. Makes absolutely zero sense to me. I was ripped off, and overall was treated very poorly as a customer. Would highly recommend NOT going to this place. read more

The reason why I came to this salon was because I purchased a Groupon deal to get a pedicure and no-chip manicure. I found multiple problems with the place. First, when I had trouble finding the salon and called them to ask for help, they were extremely sassy over the phone. Then when I walked in, there were two bored looking women sitting at the front desk that looked like they wanted to go take naps. It also seemed a bit unprofessional. I was sent to the bathroom to use the sugar scrub instead of having it done at the station. Later when I examined the manicure, I realized the woman doing the manicure did not do a good job. It got on the skin around the nail, which could start peeling, and she missed spots along the sides of the nails. Overall, the salon had bad service, did a bad job on the nails, and I will not find myself back there any time soon, or ever. read more

I went to Julianne's once with a groupon for a mani/pedi. The services were fine, but the place wasn't great enough to bring me back. I think part of what turned me off was the very loud personal conversation that took place with one of the workers who was on her cell phone. I am very pleased with Julianne's. It was my first time there yesterday. I was in Schaumburg visiting my mom and had to kill some time while she was out running errands. I noticed (on the Yelp app!) that they were one of the few places already open early in the morning. I called to inquire if they took walk-ins for a pedicure and she said, "Yes....stop by." I arrived about 5 minutes later. Alissa did my pedicure and I am very happy with it. She (and all the women here) were super friendly and we had a nice conversation during the service. This may be my new "go to" place while out in the burbs! NOTE: While you can use your debit card for services, they only accept cash for tips so come prepared! (Call ahead for more info regarding this.) This is a very cute place. I haven't been to a "local" salon for several years and this reminds me of the small place where my mom gets her hair cut. i have been a customer of Julianne's since 1999. I had been at the same salon since I was 9 years old and needed a change at the age of 38. I found Julianne at a local parade where she handing out samples and decided I needed to call and take the next step. I was tired of the same style and my former stylist never kept up with classes or new styles. I explained how picky i was with my hair and Juli assured me I wouldn't be sorry at all. Well 12 years later I am still mesmerized at the talent by all the beauticians there. All of them are constantly learning new techniques, latest styles, best products, etc. I have no problem walking in and telling Juli "do whatever you want" because I know I will come out looking fantastic. And she really knows and cares about people...from cancer patients, to teens, to the gentleness with the elderly. Her salon is amazing - everyone is so kind. I went to get my hair washed and styled by Alissa. I needed to look nice because I was visiting my family for a cousin's wedding. First of all, loved the girl who shampooed my hair. She was very gentle, and unlike Hair Cuttery, she actually protected my ears so no water would drip inside. I really appreciate that! There was coffee and ice water and little cookies. The salon was really organized and clean. The actual styling of my hair was excellent!! I will def be back to see Alissa again! My hair looked so beautiful and I felt really confident and pretty. Had the winter blues.......My neighbors hair always looks amazing so I thought I would try JuliAnne's. Well the girls had just gotten back from a hair show and were full of ideas for my new look. Alissa did my hair and we decided to soften my color just a bit and try out a new cut that they had just learned. The owner was really wonderful and gave me a sample of product that would help with my dry hair. The atmosphere was so friendly and welcoming. My hair turned out fabulous. Family owned business. They stayed late to accommodate our last minute appointment however, I will not be returning. I had to repeatedly ask for my polish to be fixed. I was told a no chip manicure could not get too close to the skin. Fine, I accept this but if you are not experienced enough to actually make my nail look like a nail don't offer this service. No chip manicure was $38, more than some of the high end salons in the city and a not so hot of a job. My sister was actually given the scrub during her manicure and told to do the scrub on herself in the bathroom!!!??? The owner stated she was one of the only places that did a manicure with the no chip. I am not sure she comprehends what no chip manicure means or not. It is a manicure and you pay more for the no chip aspect!! The no chip pedicure was better. The pedicure itself was awesome but same issues with the no chip manicure. My sister had picked a darker color and it was completely uneven. My nieces pedicure chipped in 2 days as did my sisters and mine. The atmosphere was lacking for those prices and bad services. I did even write the owner giving her an opportunity to correct the situation and she did not respond. I guess you are only important when you are actually handing your money over! What a waste of time and money. I would avoid this place and go somewhere classier and more professionally experienced in their services. read more

I visited this salon for a manicure and pedicure a few months ago, based on the recommendations here on Yelp. While the staff that I dealt with were very friendly, the conditions of the shop were very poor and the service was sub-standard. I really don't understand how they can have so many 4 and 5 star recommendations. Every surface inside the salon is cluttered with tools and product; and everything was layered in dust. All of the manicure tools and products are stored right on the table, while behind the manicurist's seat were more plastic stands filled haphazardly with product and tools. Everything seemed dusty and disorganized. I was instructed to wash my hands in the "bathroom", which turned out to be a toilet/sink placed in a storeroom with a curtain separating it from the stacked boxes. During my pedicure, the jets kept cutting off because someone doing a spray tan in the next room was overloading the circuit board. Worst of all, my manicure was very poorly done. I was so disappointed to see streaks, bubbles, and sloppy edges on just about every nail. I ended up coming home and taking it off. As I said, the one good thing was the friendly staff. But sadly, the environment and the quality of the service was SO out of proportion with the prices charged - I will not be back. read more

I came in here for a deep cleansing facial which lasted about 25 minutes and did not cleanse anything but made my face break out the next day. I think it had to do with the upkeep of the salon. I was led back to a tiny room and was given a towel to take off my top and put on before I lay down on the bed under covers. After putting it on I noticed many hairs (not mine) on it and inspected further, it also had stains. I would think they would give you a fresh towel for each customer due to sanitary reasons. I was in a hurry so I went to lay down. The sheets were visibly stained as well and at that point I realized this was a bad idea but did buy the groupon and needed to continue. The girl doing the facial seemed experienced and was extra sweet. After facial I went on for second part of the groupon which was a manicure. I again noticed the issue with sanitation. Besides millions of knick knacks everywhere you look there is a deeper issue. It's not all the hair everywhere you look and layers of dust its also the fact that the tools used for the manicure did not seem to be clean either. I found this place on Yelp and saw all the great reviews so I decided to go and try it out. I called to make an appointment and they got me in right away which was awesome, at least I thought so. I came in with blonde highlights and brown underneath. I said that I didn't want to be so blonde anymore and I found this beautiful violet color that I wanted with highlights. Alyssa did her thing. She put carmel highlights in, then colored my hair but didn't put the violet on the ends of my hair until the last 15 minutes. She washed me, put toner on, and then she cut my hair. I absolutely love my hair cut but the color turned out horribly. It's more red than violet, you can barely see the highlights, and because she waited to put the violet on my ends, they turned out brown. I contacted the office three times afterwards. Once through the website, once through their email, and once via text and haven't received one response back to correct my hair. I thought I had found my salon because everyone was so nice and it seemed like they listened to what I wanted but obviously they didn't. They won't even return any of my communications to rectify the situation. After spending $259 for all of that and a $50 tip, I would expect to be excited about my hair, instead I'm disappointed and hate my hair. Please be careful going to this salon for color. Maybe they do everything else well but not hair coloring. read more

Julianne sat down with me for a consultation and gave all the facts and information you would ever need on the care, stying and wearing of a wig. I was very impressed with her honesty, professionalism, and sense of humor.Having gone to a salon for many years,my stylist never really addressed the problems of hair loss.I asumed I would have to order the wig, but I was able to walk out with one on, which was styled and trimmed perfectly!
