Couldn't give them this feedback during the haircut as it was hard to tell how bad their job was until I reached back home. Been seeing Julie for about 7-8 years now, and she is great. I was getting my hair cut by her when she was at another location and followed her when she opened up her own business. Unfortunately, I move around frequently and sometimes can't get my hair cut from her. When I do go to other places, I'm always excited to come back to Julie. She has an expertise greater than what I would expect from a barber. She asks you what hairstyle you want and then provides her input about what she can do or what she thinks is best for your hair. I think that is very valuable because sometimes people want haircuts that might look bad and she does not want you to leave her shop looking ugly. She also has cut my hair from various styles such as combover undercuts and middle parts and they've all come out great. Currently I'm on a two block middle part and I've never been happier with how my hair looks. She's also very friendly and likes to get to know her customers. When I was home for the holidays, I came here for an emergency haircut because the lady who normally cuts my hair didn't have the availability to cut my hair before I left - it was during the holidays. When I called in to make the appointment, a man answered the phone and was very conversational and friendly. He asked me some questions and I asked some as well. He assured me that it would be no problem and I was able to get an appointment same day which was very nice. When I arrived, there was one other customer in there. A heavy smell of chemicals (perhaps barbicide) filled the room and as I was going to sit down, someone asked me if I had an appointment which I confirmed. Later on I found out it was Julie who had asked. She was cutting someone else's hair. She pointed at the other seat for me to sit at and then another woman then started to prep my hair for cutting. All a bit confusing but I assumed it would go well. Throughout the haircut, I could not really understand what was being asked of me or what was being told of me. The haircut was very fast, but throughout the haircut, I felt as though the owner was judging and confirming if the haircut was being done right. Again this was an emergency haircut but perhaps I should have done more research. When I got back from my trip and went to my normal stylist, she pointed out to me that there was unevenness and asked where I went. I told her the story. I deducted 1 star because I could not really communicate with the stylist. On the phone when I was booking, the communication was solid. It was quite the opposite in person. I deducted 1 more star because while the haircut was fast, it was not cut well. for $40-45 + tip and to have a less than good haircut doesn't seem like a quality deal. Lastly I deducted 1 more star because for 2-3 days after my haircut, my scalp was irritated and itchy. This is the first time in my life that this has happened and I'm not certain why this was the case, but it makes me question the cleanliness of the clippers being used. Luckily the irritation and itchiness went away. I think if this was a barbershop and you're paying a more reasonable price, this would have been an ok experience. But because I paid stylist rates for a barbershop experience, I will not return or recommend to my family/friends. read more

I went to Julie's based on some personal recommendations, but I'm going to be as objective as possible. Julie and Randy are pretty friendly and the actual haircut result is good (though nothing truly spectacular). Which leads me to question the $45 price point, as the result wasn't significantly different than a $15 hack job haircut. The booking and reservation thing is somewhat annoying, and the fine print of fines for lateness or no-show were somewhat ridiculous. Seriously who charges $20 for being $10 minutes late for a 30 minute haircut? The biggest issue is their undisclosed cash-only requirement. You need to take Apple Pay or credit card or Venmo. Please don't dump excuses about transaction fees or potential chargebacks or fraud. It's 2023. Your service is good but just not worth it. read more

I'll be honest. Only up until a couple years ago I almost exclusively got my hair cut at great clips/ sports cuts type places. Always a let down. During these couple years I've been trying to find a place that offers a great trim that matches my hair texture and doesn't understand a "trim" as "a fade" with a barber/stylist that is not only caring, but clearly super experienced and meticulous when it comes to getting your hair right. As a longtime Kittiez regular I was despondent when the Kittiez on Stevens Creek shut down and left wondering where in the South Bay to tame my mane. A quick search on Yelp netted Julie's Barbershop, where to my great surprise I found that Julie had opened her own shop. I was desperate to lose my COVID mullet and hustled over to Campbell. Though the barbershop had no outside setup, I saw that there were only two people inside the shop: Julie, and her husband who doubled as the receptionist, and both were wearing their surgical masks over their nose. Satisfied, I strapped my mask on and stepped in wearing my biggest eye-smile to assure them that yes, the mask was for COVID purposes only and no, there was no need to call the cops. I am historically bad at describing my desired haircuts and thus came prepared with pictures, which Julie promptly, and constructively, tore apart. As I fully trusted the decades of hair artistry Julie had under her belt, I agreed to the suggested modifications Julie proposed and entrusted her with my dating life for the next two months. Slowly but surely Julie meticulously carved out a beautiful pair of curtains from the Kmart special 90's mullet I was rockin' when I walked in. See pictures below. I never write Yelp reviews but Julie was persuasive and it would be unjust to keep these bad boys tucked away on my iPhone. The public deserves to know.
