Let me start by saying that I've gotten very good haircuts here. I'd give this barber shop 5 stars if not for one big issue... When I first started coming here, I found a barber that I really liked. Unfortunately, he didn't show up for my appointment with him twice in a row. The first time, I thought "maybe he isn't in today because of some emergency or something." I rescheduled, and when I showed up for the second appointment, the staff said they didn't know why he didn't show up again. I was pretty pissed off, driving all the way there on two different occasions, just to find out that the barber I booked with didn't show up. I wasn't notified either time. I called them near closing one day to get a haircut fixed for my boyfriend. We'd gone somewhere, and they didn't blend the sides well, l took too much off the back, and made the top uneven-- it was a stressful day until we got to the barbershop here! The lady helped fix it up, only charged a fair price, and told us how to style it better too. She was really patient while I was freaking out , so I appreciated it. Absolutely do not come here if you are trying to get a haircut that will look even remotely similar to reference pictures. Came in to see Carlos instead of my usual barber Leif (Leif is great) and I go over what I'm trying to get cut. Explained my hair type, past barber experiences, went over what Leif usually gives me, and gave reference pictures. Well none of that matters as he insisted on cutting my hair far too short and somehow turned me into an edgar in the process. During the cut I asked questions and was dismissed under the pretense that it would all come together in the end, it did not. Turned me away from the mirror for half the cut so I had no clue how badly he was fucking up my hair and in the process went against everything I was asking for. It was appreciated he offered water and made some small talk but overall an experience I am not trying to repeat. read more

Quite literally stumbled upon this little gem of a barber shop whilst unnecessarily browsing the infamous Pruneyard Shopping Center. What a life-safer for my boyfriend who was in need of a quick shape up of his daily hair-do. First thing I noticed about this place was the the vibe. Very "Old School" barbershop meets sports bar-esque. I can dig it! This place smells great, and the barbers are as friendly as they are efficient. (I promise you, amazing!) My boyfriend was set up with a gentleman by the name of Leif (I apologize if I spelled it wrong!) and he worked wonders on my special fella. I appreciated the clean atmosphere--tools sterilized and floor swept clean. But what really sold me was the experience. Even though I wasn't experiencing anything directly, it was still nice to see my boyfriend enjoying himself. Leif really took the time to hear my boyfriend out with regard to "his look" and worked with him throughout the process to ensure it was exactly what he wanted. I appreciated Leif taking the time even after the cut, to give my boyfriend some styling tips to keep with up with the post-barber-shop look. Stylists are good. Having said this, the last two times I scheduled an appointment, they were unable to render the services. The wait on both occasions, with an appointment was over 40 minutes before I walked out. The frustrating part is that I selected the anybody option on both occasions. In this scenario, I was assigned to a barber only to find that person to be running way behind and then other barbers are just sitting around while I wait. I gave up... This is unfortunate since I liked this place. I write this review for that reason and since I don't treat customers who tip well and are patient like this and as the owner, I'd want to work on that if my staff did. This place will rob you. I use to get my haircut up north for 70 bucks for an hour and it was a good haircut. I booked an appointment here for today, and the guy asked me what I wanted, I told him and he didn't talk to me the rest of the time. I tried making conversation with him, asked him a question, he looked at me and literally said nothing. Another guy walked into the shop and he greeted him by his name, asked how he was doing and offered him a drink. Still said nothing to me. My appointment was suppose to be 30 mins long which was not the case. He started cutting my hair at 6:10 and finished at 6:22. I literally paid double for a Supercuts haircut. He didn't cut my hair the way I wanted but he already made it feel awkward so I said it was fine and got up. I also got a text from here saying if I respond with yes I'll get 15% off. Went through that process, and it said it would be applied when I pay. That was also not the case. I usually get my haircut and beard trimmed but I would never recommend anyone going here. I don't even know where to start. I guess I would say...just go see Jessica. I've followed her from barbershop to barbershop for years and never looked back. The quality of work she produces is amazing and she is so focused in on the details, she sees things you've never noticed. I used to have to go to great clips or super clips or whatever it's called once my previous barber retired until I couldn't take how inconsistent they were and how their business model interfered with the quality of work. You can tell V's Barbershop's focus is the quality of the client's experience and the product they produce, which in my case is a good beard trim, line up and facial. They have many beverages on hand and are great with anything you may need. They have hot towels, cold towels, towel towels; I've never seen so many towel options. My review may be biased since I have known Jessica for so long, but as far as the shop is concerned I still give it five stars. The barbers make the shop, but the shop makes the experience. If you're looking for an Old Fashioned haircut this is where you want to go. I needed a cut and line up badly. But, I wanted something different. A cleaner, streamlined look for the holiday season. Hence why I chose this old fashion place instead of the hip hop joints I been going to. Best thing to do is to make an appointment so you're not tossed around. I did that but I wasn't able to pick the barber. Maybe after you make the appt you can call in and request. When I walked in I was greeted and asked if I had an appt. Which I did. I was then handed over to Jay. Some customers who came in after me had to wait. The 4 available seats in the waiting area were filled quickly. These gentleman were offered water, teas, sodas and beer. Yes, I said beer. That explains the high prices. Jay's 20+ yrs in the biz made me relax. All I told him was to have my sides and back short, sides to a point, keep my bangs kind of long, and line it up all around. I was absolutely satisfied with the results. Before finishing making the final cuts I did get a hot towel facial and shampoo. That hot towel was wonderful. When it came off I felt rejuvinated ready to get the day going. Im leaving this review as a response to the person who just left a review. I was in the chair when Yesus called and left this review " Yesus W. East 14th Street Business District, Oakland, CA 051 7/11/2022 I called and ask to speak to manager, a rude woman told me " No I can't speak to the manager" and l then hung up in my face. Horrible customer service; will never recommend a barber or client to them. The lady obviously doesn't know how to talk to people. Two thumbs down" This is totally False, Yesus called and the manager tried to talk to him and asked him at least 20 times in a calm and professional way how can she help him. He did not seem to be satisfied with the fact that she was indeed the manager. She still tried to figure out what he needed for another 7 min and showed way more patience than I thought was warranted but thats probably what makes her a good manager. They ulitmatly ended their conversation with him saying he was going to leave a bad review. Not once did I even hear her even get a chance to talk anything barbershop related since he apparently never wanted to answer the simple question of " how can I help you". I cant say for a fact that this is a scam, but in light of all the news around scams like this in the area im inclined to think so. Especially since I was here in person when the call took place and was at the very least able to hear what the manager was saying. Def doesn't match up to Yesus's review. First time I've ever gone to a barber (done haircuts but never been happy with them at other places)... soon as I walked in I was greeted, definitely a busy place (make an appointment (I did)). After a short wait - Daniel M. was absolutely amazing. Gave me one of the greatest beard trims and haircuts I've ever had. He was extremely patient despite having a big mess like me come in (who wasn't quite sure what I wanted). He was extremely kind - we had a great discussion during the entire time. Throughout the haircut/beard trim he gave me quite a few pointers and suggestions. I will be going back to this place regularly and specifically asking for Daniel. V's Barbershop, a cut below the rest! This place has been on the decline since it opened and certainly since COVID. The last time I came here, the guy that usually works there, with the trendy hair, color, and lines artfully worked into the sides of his hair, was working. He lamented how so few people came into the barbershop now and that maybe they see two to three people a day. Well he took all that extra time to give me a haircut in about 12 minutes. And didn't bother to trim my neck. It was an okay haircut. Fast forward to my last haircut with V's. And by last I mean the last time I went and the LAST time I'll ever go. The Chinese woman who was working on my hair was very nice but had difficulty understanding what I was asking for. My haircut is not complicated (see 12 minute haircut above) but I asked for a part. Which she called a line. And I didn't get either. Thankfully though she intuitively knew I'd like the TV at my haircutting station to be set to the local Chinese station. I wasn't sure if it was Mandarin or Cantonese since I DON'T SPEAK CHINESE! Anyway, she took her time and did an okay job minus not giving me what I asked for. But I was happy to note that the overhead music was some kind of loud EDM/Drum and Bass/Hip Hop mesh of music that was drowning out, what I assumed was a Chinese soap opera on my TV. And at the end of another excellent experience at V's I was rewarded with the standard V's price of $45, plus $9 tip--I wasn't happy but I wasn't heartless. Unlike V's which is still charging full pre-COVID prices. i remember when you came into V's you'd be offered a beer, asked what sports channel or show you'd like to watch, sit down with an actual barber and be satisfied with the experience--especially when V's charges the premium they do. Well no matter. Save your money and go to Super Cuts, same experience for a fraction of the price. ***UPDATED TO REPLY TO BUSINESS OWNER'S REPLY*** Randi, you could not be more wrong. Mentioning someone's race does not make my post racists or xenophobic. Nothing I said was inaccurate or exaggerated. Apparently, they had a 7 minute grace period which I had never heard of. They weren't flexible at all which I just can't understand because the shop was empty. Jessica is amazing! I really wanted an undercut design and I could not find a Salon able to do that type of thing. We saw V's Barbershop one night after dinner and decided to go. Jessica did a beautiful lotus flower design for me just as I wanted. I'm absolutely in love with it! My husband came with me to get his hair and beard styled. Was seriously excited at first to get my haircut from this place. Heard great things an was ready to touch up my undercut with a nice light fade. Didn't go as planned . I now have a nice scab on my neck an inch long from being hit with the clippers while the barber was getting my lower neck . Totally didn't expect this to happen an when I jumped away all that was said well at least you aren't bleeding. Ummm yeah it still hurt like hell . This review is long over due. I've been a client of V's Barbershop since the very first day they opened and I have not had a bad experience at all. Every employee I've met was very nice and welcoming, they listened to what I wanted as far as my hair cut and they've kept a genuine conversation. My first haircut was with Jessica and she was amazing! Due to my work scheduling I was unable to schedule with her for a while, but she is still one of my favorites. She does a great job! My go-to person right now is Robbie and he is also amazing. He knows what he is doing and does it with ease. I've never had a bad cut from the guy and he is an all around great person. I definitely miss the beer that was served, but with COVID restrictions it is understandable why V's had to alter their service. I mean you can't blame them for trying to keep customers and employees safe. No matter what your point of view is, you have to admire and respect that. Can't wait for the day you can serve beer again. I don't understand some of the reviews customers have left. If you are not happy with your haircut, let them know and they'll make it right! Sometimes I ask for a little off of the top and realize maybe it wasn't enough, and guess what? I let my barber know and he takes a little more off the top. Totally understand you can't glue hair back on, but we're all human. No need to smile and fake it then slander someone for it on a review. Anyway, if you're looking for a go to place that you can trust, make sure you check out V's Barbershop. The price is reasonable (If you're concerned about paying money for a good haircut, remember San Jose is an expensive place to live in, you can't really expect to get $10 haircuts so let's be real) and the employees are great! read more

If I can select zero stars I would. My husband just got home from getting a haircut from someone named Dominique. To say the least I'm so disappointed as I seen the photos of the haircut he was requesting and expecting however, she did not give him that haircut. She seemed to be razor happy and pulled his hairline way too far up, and totally created a new hairline shape for him. She also ruined his eyebrows and re-shaped it - mind you he did not request for his eyebrow to be cut/shaved off!!! For a $57 haircut I expected more, he's better off going to his regular guy that charges him $20. Thankfully hair grows back and he will never go back there. read more

I was on the chair for an hour and a half and still walked away with a bad haircut...paying $57 + tip as well. I was so frustrated by the end that I just left and practically begged my regular barber (at a different shop) to make time for me since it was xmas eve and he was back to back. There was zero blending in the fade and you could see each line. I thought I was crazy, so I asked my wife and other family members to confirm, and they all did. This haircut will cost me north of $100, including the cost of getting it fixed. Won't ever go back to V's and now I remember why I stopped going there in the first place. read more

Bad haircut. Non willingness to actually do the work.

This is a very well kept barbershop and the owners are very nice people. The two barbers I interacted with were not though. Upon walking in the owner greeted me and checked me in. She also offered me a drink while the barber prepared herself. The owner said the barber Lilly was ready. As soon as I walk in her direction, I was cut off by another barber, Julie. She just stared at me and gave me a snooty look. I brushed it off because lily was very welcoming and listened to how I wanted my haircut. Lily started cutting my hair and conversed a little bit which was nice. We stopped about 3/4 way through the haircut because I knew it wasn't short enough on the sides, as I previously explained. So I re-explained it to her and she politely apologized and said she was not able to use a straight razor or foil shaver to get my sides down to bald. She said she would call over Julie. Julie came over and trained lily while only cutting my sideburns and back of neck. I told them both I wanted the sides and back done as well. Julie looked at lily and stated she didn't feel comfortable doing that and walked away. So we finished up the haircut and I was just furious inside but this is not Lily's fault. As I paid and left, I said thank you but Julie didn't even acknowledge me, yet again. She just stood there staring at me. This was by far the worst experience at a barbershop. Are barbers this cut throat about customers that they won't team up to help a customer get the haircut they wanted? V's barbershop is awesome normally. Love the staff and how much they take care of you. Went in yesterday and showed a picture to my barber Robbie or something I can't remember her name. Worst haircut I have ever had by far. She didn't take her time did the whole thing in 12 minutes not paying attention at all to what I asked for. She didn't brush off any of the hair she cut from my face or do anything other than spray the top of my head with a little water and proceeded to clip my hair. Not what I asked for at all but she had already started. I like this establishment not against V's in any way just make sure you don't get Robbie. She doesn't care about her customer, is a bad barber, and had some pretty racist things to say while I was in her chair. I was too uncomfortable to say anything at the time. read more

I had Lily cut my hair and she did a great job. I cannot get over the fact, however, that 2 of the stylists/barbers in the shop were walking around with no masks. As a father of a young daughter who has yet to be vaccine eligible, I was pretty pissed, but it wasn't until the middle of my cut that I had noticed. Had I any idea that people working indoors in what is probably among the riskiest settings for covid would NOT be masked, I never would have shown up. How an I to know whether they are boosted or even vaccinated at all? I thought it was odd to see Christmas wrapping paper covering all the windows. Now I am wondering if they're just trying to hide their maskless practices? Look, I get that some people are maybe overcautious, but I am not even sure if what they are doing is allowed, and the idea that you wouldn't let your customer know about this when they set an appointment up in the middle of a pandemic is infuriating.
