Seriously though... speaking as someone who was a partner in two restaurants in NYC for 4 years, who does not claim to "know it all" but knows some tricks of the trade... I think they've got great potential and would like to share my thoughts with them. Saying they've "got potential" probably come across as smug, obnoxious, and ridiculous, especially because they've got like 4.6 stars here on Yelp! And that's mainly why I found myself here... Staying in Mansfield for the night, I looked up restaurants that were enroute to our hotel. Some of them had 3 or 3.5 stars and I said "no way." But 4.6 stars with as many reviews as The Farmer's Table has? Absolutely! The atmosphere is a little bit diner but cozy enough and has the farm as a theme. There are some cool design elements, like the steel ceiling, the tables... The bathroom was clean and well stocked, and that's a really good sign that the place is sanitary and organized. The waitress was really, really nice... and we loved that we were in this tiny little town and yet she had this really cool, funky image. Great fingernails! I'm jealous! A tip for her to make service even better... think about sequence of service. Think about the extras that the customer will want with the specific thing they ordered so that they won't have to bother you. If they order something with fries, definitely put ketchup on their table, and do it before the food is delivered. There were also a lot of empty tables with salt shakers, but it's had none. Some customers notice these little things and appreciate a server who anticipates their needs. On the other hand, maybe she was just really slammed busy before we got there. My wife and I waited like 2 minutes for her to take my order and she apologized profusely for having us wait so long for her. I was like, "am I in Manhattan or wut???" She was on point, generally easy to find when we needed her, she was never trying to hide from customers (a huge no-no) and very well-intentioned. Definitely a keeper. The food though... I was surprised we didn't like it very much being the reviews were so good. When I got the check to pay, I asked the server what their most beloved and popular dishes are. She said that ppl order a lot of the prime rib sandwich, and also the cat fish. Incidentally, I had ordered the prime rib sandwich, and my wife had the breaded cat fish. I was expecting a lot more meat on my sandwich, and the bun was just a regular burger bun, but it was ok. It came with 3 slices of pickle and cost $11.90. I was still hungry after that so I finished my wife's catfish 'cuz she gets full easily. I liked the catfish more, but neither of us thought it was anything special. What was special were the prices. The catfish included 2 sides, and it cost less than $14. Being from NYC, it was so refreshing to see pricing that reminded me of year 2000! A burger for $7.85 that's not Burger King? Incredible! But the cole slaw... ewww. I didn't hate it, but I kind of forced myself to eat it even though it had a strange flavor. The sweet potato fries were ok. Everything was basically O.K. I imagine that, if I lived there, I would go pretty regularly cuz it's probably the best thing the neighborhood has in a few square miles, and it's easier and more fun than cooking at home (if you're not a cook and you're busy at work). But I think that some improvement in the food could make the place more of a destination. And a destination could actually bring more business to the surrounding businesses! I can understand if the townspeople want very basic food there, but at least offer a few specials that are fancier, better ingredients, something that stands out and is memorable. I know I'm spoiled coming from NYC... a 4.6 star review in places like Manhattan are different than a 4.6 star review in a small town. But this place has some nice things about it. Visited Shores Sisters recently after a friend highly recommended the place to me (she visits…read moreregularly). They were - and still are - in the midst of a pretty significant plant sale (annuals, perennials, indoor/house plants, succulents, etc). Ultimately, I do think the timing of my visit during this sale impacted my experience. For one, the assortment of indoor/house plants & succulents was minimal and generic by the time I got there. While I was able to grab some herb plants and a Aeonium Kiwi succulent that I had been looking for, there was a pretty significant amount of the plant inventory that was looking pretty sad and wilted. Inside of the market is another tidbit that could see a bit of improvement, perhaps. While there's a nice variety, it also feels crowded. I've been to similar markets and they try to create aisle ways that allow for carts in both directions, etc - but that's not really possible at Shores Sisters. On a busier day, navigating the aisles feels like a bit of a cluster. Also, because of the location of the checkout area? Any backup in the checkout queue means folks spilling out into the already crowded aisles that people are trying to navigate through. It's not great. That said, the market does have a nice selection of jarred goods, produce, baked items, and so on. Perhaps one of my only disappointments with what was available in the market was, for example, that I went to grab a container of strawberries and it had a Dole label on it. I can get those anywhere... I was hoping for something supplied more locally. In terms of the cafe experience, I ordered the sandwich special: a blackberry grilled cheese (a grilled cheese with bacon and a spicy blackberry jam). It was noted that the blackberry jam was low spice, but I honestly tasted barely any spice at all... and I was looking for it (and I tend to pick up on spice/heat pretty easily, so I was surprised). I had also ordered a taro milk boba tea... and while the taro flavor was good, the tapioca pearls hadn't been cooked enough. Tapioca pearls have to be cooked in order to allow for their softer/gummy-type texture, and my tapioca pearls has a softer outside, for the most part, but almost all of them were undercooked and thus still harder on the inside. It was unpleasant. TL;DR. I'm trying to chalk up my feelings about this place to them being low on inventory because of the sale + having been busier than usual. That said, it's a decent drive (over an hour), and today's experience doesn't necessarily motivate me to hurry up and return. Maybe some day, but it'll be timed very differently.

It was fresh, flavorful, and I especially liked the addition of the radish--it's not something I would have thought to add to avocado toast, but it worked really well. I'll definitely remember that idea the next time I make one at home. My husband ordered the egg bagel sandwich with crispy kale. The kale added a nice texture and flavor, although he felt it was a little oily. We also had an Americano and an espresso, both of which were freshly brewed and made for a great start to the drive home. If you're looking for a good breakfast and coffee spot in Ithaca, Hound and Mare is definitely worth a stop.

We had a reservation for 6:45 and we arrived fashionably late (6:48) ready to shove some rah rah down our gullets. My husband Richard had actually prepped his throat by lubing it a teeny bit with his great aunt's special sauce (it's just Olive Garden Italian dressing™) Instead of being led to our table like you would at a normal human restaurant, the child at the counter said "your table is back there go find u you old hag" after we did that and bodied it down at our table we were verbally assaulted as a way of greeting by our waitress. In doing so, lady Dionne let out a yell that was so damn loud, it broke a vase and popped my hernia. After the incident, we took a moment to pursue the menu. The options are as follows: sandwich, taco, burger, knock off Olive Garden. We got two appetizers which arrived before we were even able to order our meals (just to explain the timing of everything) and the food was just okay mamma I'll tell you that. Then it was time for us to wait 3 hours for our food. During this time we begged the gods and our ancestors that we honor on our ofrenda to do something, ANYTHING , so we could get our food soon. We hadn't seen a worker in what felt like years. Then finally it happened, we found a member of staff. Could he read? No. Could he write? Not fully. Was he bipedal! Of course not! But he was the most attentive employee. He also was in fact a chocolate lab. His named was rocky and him and lady Dionne went through an enemies to lovers. You could cut the sexual tension with a knife!! at this point we were getting so ravenous, Richard actually suggested getting a spit roast started at one point so I needed to use my body to protect rocky from his hungry and searching hands . Richard was completely non verbal. I watched in horror as Richard went through his war flashbacks in silence. (This is what happens to Richard when his sugar gets low) we asked rocky to see where the food was. Also just to set the vibe, we were the only people in the restaurant, I learned that the other table were actually just employees!!! (They got served very fast btw) rocky came back and spoke to us in English. He said "I don't know where your food is but I would like to ask lady Dionne for her hand in marriage" After the nuptials were finalized our food finally came. The burger was 8 oz of two inch thick, overcooked and in seasoned beef!!! It was disgusting and lady Dionne agreed. She prefers her purina. The chicken parm is much better at Olive Garden. At least when you are there, they treat you like family. The fries were nasty. the only good item was the stir fry but let's be honest... it's kind of impossible to mess up. This place has a 4.5 on yelp. And I just want to meet some of the girl boss mamas who rated this a five star and asked, who paid them, and how I can also get paid to write good reviews because review writing is something I am very good at as you can tell. At the beginning of the meal, I was actually considering ordering the crème brûlée. But I realized that I ultimately had to chose between ordering a dessert or seeing my grand children grow up. This is a restaurant connected to Lakeside resort and the residents dine here. We were not staying at the resort. When we arrived, we were seated promptly. We had an awesome view facing the Seneca lake and Hector falls. From our seats, we saw the rains come in. We had light jackets and were able to have an awesome dinner. For the dinner, we had scallops for appetitizer, seared salmon, fish tacos and chicken parmesan. For dessert, we had bread pudding and cheesecake. All delicious and cooked to perfection. They have a puppy called Rocky who visits each table! Well mannered puppy!
