I have never had a bad experience here until this afternoon. I should have known what I was in for while during my pedicure he was digging his fingernail into the bottom of my foot while massaging. Ouch but I'm open to new experiences and felt he might have some new technique. Anyways, it got worse from there. He rushed through the pedicure to then take me to a table to do my nails. He proceeded to dig alongside my nail bed until he pulled a piece of my skin off and it profusely bled for the entire time. He attempted to stop it using cotton but finally grabbed some nail glue and created a glue bubble. He went back to his half ass job of my manicure and put me under the fan. When I went to pay, I could tell he was discussing what happened with the owner who looked at my nails and he still charged me full price! I for sure thought he discounted me but found out after I called my friend who paid the same price! (Price board was obscured by plant) What is absolutely awful about all of this is that when I finally came out of the shock of pain, I noticed what a crap job he did cutting my nails and left the dried blood under my nails. He didn't even clean them out! I immediately went home and re-trimmed my nails and cleaned off the glue bubble. Never again will I go back there. read more

Nathan and Danny were my go-tos; when one was busy I'd get the other. Bummer though that Nathan left :( It's usually impossible to get an appt with Danny nowadays if you call last minute, so the earlier you make an appointment the better. Danny has also mentioned to me that their other guy, Travis, is just as good. I wanted to leave a review specifically about Danny's customer service. I was about 15 minutes late to my appointment today (which is a deadly sin!!!) but Danny still accommodated me, took his time, and managed to chop up an interesting conversation with me as he usually does. He typically takes 45 min to finish a fill, so his next customer ended up waiting for 15 min. I apologized to his next customer and made sure she knew it wasn't his fault. Thanks again Danny! UPDATE: Finally tried getting my nails done by Travis. He was really good!! He works swiftly but does a precise job. Arrived at 5pm and was told that they couldn't do Mani Pedi as they already had an appt at 5:15pm which was almost 2 hours before they closed. Male who approached and spoke to me didn't seem too friendly and no one else in the shop even acknowledged us as we walked in. New Update based on actual service (that seemed Self Serve): Basic Pedicure for 22.00 because I used a Debit card, so 2.00 additional for the very basic service. My Polish is thick, not neat, only one coat of polish and even with top coat you can see the messy streaks of the polishing. I was asked to walk barefoot to the drying area and was left there, never to be checked on again. Removed my own tissue from between my toes and never saw the Technician who did my or my daughter's Pedicure again to even address my concerns or attempt to tip. When paying had to wait for someone to be called over to take my payment and decided while on my way out that convenience is not enough for my return business! read more

I showed her the design on my phone . She said " yeah I can do it " but she didn't even pay attention what is the details about the design. And I said can you fix it on my nail . She said " NO, I can't do anything about it. It's already cooked" WTF? Seriously ? I paid for my nails . Not for free!!???? In the end, when she charge my credit card. I called and ask if they were accepting walk-ins, And Julie said to come on in. I was excited because this was a last thing I needed to get done. When I arrive the girl who is doing my nails Seated me immediately and begin to work on my feet. I thought she was great she took her time and she seem to know what she was doing until she started on my manicure.First she didn't soak my nails or clean Them or anything to create a foundation for the nail polish. She was really nice but she didn't do a good job. I didn't notice until I walked outside. There's air bubbles and there's paint left on the side of my finger. It was a sloppy job. I don't regret tipping her because she was really friendly but friendly service doesn't make my nail pretty. As I'm writing this review I'm also fixing the mess at home. I have been going to Julie's Nails for about 12 years. I always get consistently good service from either Julie or Danny. I prefer having one of Julies sisters do the Pedicure since theirs seem to last the longest. Their prices are fair for a quality pedicure and fill with gel. I love that the gel fill lasts for at least 3 weeks- I generally get in at about 4 weeks and my nails are still presentable. The shop is clean, doesn't smell like chemicals and I haven't gotten any fungus from any visit there- ever. Their massage chairs for pedicures are comfy and relaxing. I appreciate Julie and Danny and thank them for the consistent quality jobs they do! read more

Just tried Julie's Nails for the first time and the service was exceptional! I called and got a same day appointment no long wait was seated right away. First I had someone do my pedicure and she was nice. Very efficient when it came down to how short I wanted my toes and getting them cut to the shape I wanted. Then I was handled off to get my gel manicure by someone (sorry I'm bad with names, but he was a guy) and he was awesome. I had to cut my nails down for work, but he still kept a nice length and got the shape I wanted as well. He even helped with the color for my index finger as well. Overall this place is my new go to. My only complaint is that the gel machine gets really hot too quickly and almost feels like it's burning somewhat. Other than that this is the place to be in Pinole read more

Julie and staff are awesome. They always have been able to "squeeze" us in for a cut down. Let me 'splain. My husband has a physical disability and is unable to cut his nails. Since his stroke, his nails have been growing in an odd way and I have no confidence in myself in cutting his nails. Julie fit's him in and they do an outstanding job. Pedicures. Since the stroke we have tried many places for pedicures. Julie's is one of the only places locally that used plastic liners in the tub for the soaking. We have only found a handful of other salons that use them. Again they do a great job, so good that I have started having my feet done as a treat. They are generally always busy there so even though walk ins are okay, make an appointment first. Nice and big nail salon right in Downtown Pinole! I recently have been trying new nail salons because my nail lady moved. Saw really good reviews about Lindsay's acrylic nails and wanted to try! Lindsay did the ombré dip powder for my acrylic full set. It came out really great. I highly suggest going to Lindsay for acrylic sets. I was really happy with the result especially because I don't usually get the long, acrylic nails. They were really fun and very feminine! Loved! The only downside was the price. It was $60 for a new set of acrylic nails using the dip powder. A little high, in my opinion. In any case, definitely hit up Lindsay! She will do a really great job! read more

I have been coming to Julie's for a couple of years now and and it's very disappointing that today I had a terrible experience with Dani the owner of the nail salon. I came in for a mani with my daughter & got completely humiliated. As I was getting ready to pay he confused me for another lady that apparently didn't pay her tab for her services due to card failure. He started yelling & was so certain that I was the lady that owed him money. He stated that it was for a mani & "yellow pedi" and he was certain that it was me because "I had two children". He even went as far as saying that I drive a Mercedes. To his surprise... I only have one child, I have never gotten a pedicure at Julie's & do not drive a Mercedes. On top of that I haven't received services from them in MONTHS ! He stated that the incident was this month. He ended up looking stupid & ignorant saying himself "never mind it was another lady" but didn't even apologize TERRIBLE SERVICE !! How petty was this. I have been a customer at this salon for the past three years. I kept giving them my business because they do good work and because I like the guy "Travis" who does my nails. But I will never patronize this shop again after what happened to me yesterday. I walked in on a Thursday afternoon around 1:45PM, without an appointment. The owner "Julie" looked at me and said we don't have time right now to take you. I said I can wait. She said okay then 3PM. I said fine, I'll go and come back. I felt compelled at that point to tell the owner that this is the second time this has happened to me. She rudely tells me, "You walk in with no appointment. What do you expect m to do?" I told her that I expected courtesy and for her to honor what it says on her sign which is "Walk ins always welcome." I especially thought I that I would be squeezed in because I am a regular, high tipping customer. What I finally had to conclude is what my black friends who I have referred to Julie's Nails have told me since day one --The workers (except Travis) differentiate between the black customers and the white customers. With the Anglo folks they're all smiles and cheerful, the black customers get hostility and rudeness. If you are white, this is the nail place for you, if you aren't stay away! No need to pay anyone to be rude to you. I'd rather drive 20 miles out of my way and pay more than to be subject to rude behavior and hostility. read more

I didn't have that great of an experience. My gfs and I barely got a greeting from our techs. They just sat down and got to business. I chose this salon because it is spacious and airy inside with at least 6 pedicure stations with back massagers. The tech I had was fast, but not very thorough and the massage hurt because the tech used the edge of their fingernails. Gliding their nails along my skin left me with tiny pink lines. Wth? I don't know if they understood what I said, I didn't want to yelp ( um, the other use of the word ) and scare everybody. It disturbed me that it never occurred to them that it might NOT be relaxing. Maybe they're sadists, I dunno. Maybe it depends on the tech whether you get great service, but my search for a local nail salon continues. read more

I've had my shares of "searching" for the perfect nail shop and I think I'm going to stop looking for now. I've been to a few other shops around this area and no one else compares to Julie's. I am always short on time so I appreciate the fact that they can always fit me in and I'm always out within 30 minutes after my gel color change. I'm not looking for luxury or fancy so my review might not be fair in that aspect. However, I haven't had my manicure or pedicure done by anyone here that I have any complaints about and I do my shares of complaining on Yelp! Trust me! They are quick and efficient. They do a wonderful job on my nails and I never have to stress out about not making it back to work on time. I've been here at least a dozen of times and I haven't had one bad experience yet so I will continue to come here as long as my drive to and from work is less than 5 minutes. They don't all make small talks, especially the guys...but that's ok. If I were looking for a conversation, I'll call up one of my sisters or girlfriends to meet me for lunch. But when I'm on a time crunch, Julie's is always there to save the day! read more

My experience was ok. I have not had my nails done in a while so I decided to come here because of the ratings and it was close to home. I got a mani pedi with acrylics. The pedi was fine and the mani looked great but there was space between my nail and the acrylic. Dirt would get in there and it was annoying but I went back a few weeks later to give them another chance and get it filled. He said he would clean it up but half assed it and put glue on top of some of the dirt so there's glued dirt under my nails that I can't get rid of. Some of the filled nails look good but half don't. Maybe I end up with the wrong people in this place but I will go somewhere else to get this fixed and needless to say I will not be returning. read more

For a $21 pedicure, I don't expect much and I've tried all the local places in Pinole but finally-Jackpot! Cindy, my nail technician was meticulous. Not much of a chatter which I prefer, she handled my feet with care. First soak and the best massage chair I've experienced. Even went all the way up and massaged my scalp! Whoa, full body relaxation in affect. Then she trimmed and scrubbed my toes and heels. I know I could use a little more TLC there... Next was the massage, it didn't feel rushed and each leg and foot was rubbed the same way so neither one gets jealous, lol. Finally the finishing touches, paint and polish. Cindy made sure each toe was uniform and painted them double coat, checking both if she left excess polish or needed a little more on the edges. I've been searching for a place that does just gel color with no manicure for cheap... And I found this little treasure. I've been coming for about year now & I absolutely love this place. No one believes me that I can get gel color for 15$. I can hold onto my freshly painted nails for a good 3 weeks, sometimes 4 if I'm feeling extra lazy to go into the shop. Out of all the manicurists, I have noticed that Julie & Danny are the ones that paints my nails the best. Over time if they do my nails, the color doesn't chip as much and it doesn't get that funny, peely feeling at the base of the nail near the cuticles. I hate when that happens! I took out 1 star because it's so hard to start conversations with these people! They just seem kinda uninterested and wants me to be on my way. Haha! Oh well. read more

The YELP reviews seemed promising so thought I would give this place a try. Came here to get a pedicure before I headed off to Napa a few weeks ago. I also had a doctor's appointment at the Kaiser next door so I booked a pedi before my doctor's appointment which worked out great. Parking was difficult to find so I parked at Kaiser's employee parking spot across the street hoping I don't get towed. Right when I walked in, I was immediately seated right away. My pedi was fine however didn't really find anything outstanding about this place. Customer Service is just like any other nail shop, small chit chat between the staff and wondering weather the staff is talking crap about their customers. I was going on a trip to Europe and the day I was leaving I went and had my nails done with him. I got Gel manicure and I was not disappointed which was a relief considering I recently had a bad experience at a different salon. I even went back to Danny as soon as I got back from my two week trip because of how satisfied i was with the wonderful job he did. He is detailed and honest. I've been here twice and I've had a great experience both times. First time: Got almond shaped acrylics with gel nail polish. No appointment made, and luckily there was no wait. I was really impressed with the shape. It was the perfect shape- not sharp, and rounded off just right. They had SUCH a variety of gel colors. Second time: They were kind of busy, not too busy. I felt bad for some of the customers, hence the mixed feelings. A couple of ladies came in for an appointment and she was upset with Julie for letting me and my best friend go first with no appointment set up. Julie misheard her when the lady had called for two appointments and she only wrote down for one. So the ladies left. But anyways..... I'll try calling for an appointment next time. I was very happy with my nails though. Julie did them, and I had just gel nail polish. I love how she shaped them too, they're like a squoval shape. Super pretty! The first time was okay; I think I mainly enjoyed it because the nail tech performing the service massaged my legs really well. She then painted my nails; some toes had polish over the cuticles and on others, the polish didn't even cover the entire nail. They're all good at what they do and definitely pay attention to details. What I also love is that not only are they really friendly but their availability is amazing. I decided to go to another salon just spontaneously and it was ok and then took a break from doing my nails so my natural nails can breath.
