We had our work Christmas Party here on a Friday afternoon. The service was great, we were especially happy that they let us order off the dinner menu even though it was lunchtime. The inside of Juliet's is very cool, I like the exposed brick walls and the general vibe of the place. Our server was as sweet as can be and very helpful. We ordered the veal meatballs as an appetizer (I did not partake, not a fan of veal) and the fried ravioli, which was really good. We also did the salad bowl, which was quite good. I had the filet and french fries, which I would get again. The reason for three stars versus four, their website is out of date and the menu posted on it is old not current. I had my heart set on the ribeye steak with a side of lobster mac-n-cheese, and they don't have either on the menu anymore. read more

While my pasta was pretty good, the service was more memorable... We were rushed into a secluded room and at first this seemed great as we had a large party and a reservation. It took quite a while to get our drinks and then again the food. Before we were all done they were making it clear we needed to finish up as another reservation was waiting for the room. This was made clear by the hostess coming to check on us multiple times and then literally saying, "We have another party waiting for this room." For a first time experience it was honestly very disappointing as I love the building and Italian food. I don't know if I'll give it another try or not. read more

Very nice place. The atmosphere was very nice. Great music, cool building. I enjoyed it a lot. The food was good. I had the Seafood cobb salad which included big shrimp and crab. The salad comes with green goddess dressing which I ordered on the side. I tried it and it didn't seem right for the salad. The waitress noticed before I could even ask for something else and asked me if she could bring me a different dressing. I got the lemon vinaigrette which turned out to be SUPER AWESOME GOOD! We ordered bacon wrapped cheese stuffed dates and they were very tasty. The bacon was browned perfectly and had a sugary glaze to it. I wish the menu was a little bigger. Also the meal came with bread, olive oil and grated parm. I would add some balsamic vinegar or some type of spice to make it more tasty. It seemed a bit bland. Our service was great. We were in Joliet for a show at the Rialto Theatre. We wanted to dine in a non chain restaurant.We chose Juliet's. We are so very happy we did. We showed up just before 5pm without a reservation. We were seated immediately . The building is a lovely older building the interior is beautuful. Our waitress greeted us immediately, helped us with drink selections . She returned soon with our drinks and took our food orders. The service at Juliet's was " spot on". Someone a[ppeared at the right moment to remove empty glasses and plates and then disappeared. We never felt like they were hovering over us nor did we ever feel ignored, or rushed after completing our meal. The food was delicious and fresh and perfect portions. I don't typically write reviews but I was so annoyed that I felt compelled to write. My friends and I were excited to get together for a girls night out and we chose juliets. Worse choice ever. We wanted to have a few drinks and catch up before dinner. But after our first round, we sat there with empty glasses for at least 15-20 minutes despite that we tried to get the bartender's attention. It wasn't busy at all. There were just a few other people at the bar. My friend eventually got her attention and asked for a round and she rolled her eyes! Her name was kimmie. We finally decided that the old guy at the other end of the bar must tip more than a group of women because she was all over him. If you want to go for drinks, go down the street. Went here in March of this year and forgot to post about it. The place is split by the tavern and the restaurant. The ambiance was very beautiful-love the old timey ceilings and walls-felt like I was eating in a Godfather movie! I like the bread, cheese and oil served to every table-nice touch. Our waitress was good and we had some of the best soup ever. My daughter had a burger and I had chicken Alfredo which was very good. It was reasonably priced and also had valet too. I thought it took a little long to get our entrees, but it was a minor thing-no biggie. I would highly recommend checking out the pinball arcade next door too! read more

My fiance and I chose this restaurant to host an engagement dinner for 11 adults and three children. I made the reservation on Yelp; I called the restaurant a few days before to confirm the head count and make sure they had a heads up on the children vs. adult count. When we walked in, we were sat in the darkest corner of the restaurant, so dark that we had to use our phones to view the menu and open presents (I'm on the younger side, and I couldn't even see). The server that was working with our party had been on medical leave, and this was her first day back. My first thought when the server told us five times time it was her first day, why would a restaurant manager put this server on a 14 top? The server was visibly overwhelmed with no help from the other servers wandering around in the back or the front of house manager. Mind you; the restaurant is dead on a Saturday night (should have been a warning). They had about four tables total during our meal, which is most likely why they have $20 for $40 Groupons. The server also told us in vivid details about her reason for being off work, a motorcycle accident and then she proceeded to show us her scars during dinner (sick!). The food was very good, a lot of our guests had the pork chop, "build your own pasta" and lasagna. I had the salmon, and it was delicious. Although, I would recommend ordering the mashed potatoes with the salmon versus the diced potatoes that came with it (reminded me of a breakfast skillet). We also ordered the bruschetta (Skip! The bread to tomato ratio was way off and I ended up using the bread with EVOO) calamari, veal meatballs and bottomless salads. When the meals arrived a gentleman dressed in plain clothes (maybe the manager?) came out to help deliver the meals (finally!) and told us about that night's specials (too late), we were never even given the specials sheet or told about specials for the evening. During the meal, there were dishes piled on the table, and at one point our guests got up and started stacking plates on tables. Meanwhile, a server is rolling silverware in a booth nearby. When we finished our meals and opened presents, the server told us a family member from out of town had called to treat us to dessert. The server then proceeded to tell everyone to order multiple desserts because "you're not paying for it." This left a bad taste in our mouth, to top off the rest of the evening. This attitude was utterly out of line. My recommendation: Go to Barolo Ristorante instead. read more

Underwhelming at best. First off it's kind of confusing as to who even works there. We walked in and sat by the host stand for a few minutes and watched several people walk by but couldn't tell you if any of the worked there, though I came to eventually find out they did. See the thing here is that no one we encountered was rude but at the same time no one was overly welcoming or friendly either. We were sat in a fairly empty dining room for 7:00 pm on a Friday night- which should have been my first clue. At the table was some horribly foul tasting olive oil and shaved Parmesan cheese on plates (and all over the table) with a small loaf of cold French bread. Now onto the menu- if you are the type of person that likes options, this place isn't for you. There is very little selection. On top of that, many things were crossed out on the menu in sharpie on top of that! Overall I think there were maybe 20 things to choose from. Mostly pasta or pizza, a few sandwiches and salads and 1-2 fish/veggie options. And there are no specials or at least none our server told us about. I'll be totally honest, I wasn't really in the mood for Italian to begin with but we were there for my father in laws birthday and it was his choice. I finally decided to just get the bottomless salad and split a 12 inch pizza with my 2 boys. If I had to give them one kudo it would be that their prices for the most part are pretty reasonable. Especially for the portions. That said I didn't think there was anything special about the pizza or salad. The other people in my party all had the same sediment- the food was ok but nothing anyone was blown away by. The service, like the food, was also just "meh". Our server was pleasant and competent but didn't exactly seemed passionate about her job. And service was slow. Now mind you I'm not asking for my server to push me out of a restaurant, but the whole dinner just seemed to drag. It seemed to take longer that normal for everything, which was odd because again the place was no where near busy. It's just seemed to be the pace of the place. A corner booth sat empty and dirty almost the entire time we sat there. It wasn't until just before we left that someone finally cleaned and re-set it. Overall, this place is nothing special. I keep hoping Downtown Joliet will get some decent places so the area can start moving up, but this place isn't going to do it. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by both the food and service. I had Chicken Nepolitana and my friend had Shrimp Pasta. I was in town from California, home of farm to table cuisine, and I was pleasantly surprised that the food was so flavorful. Davia was our server and she couldn't have been more pleasant and helpful. This was my husband and I first time visiting the place you would think after telling our waiter Michael D that he would be a little excited and tell us about the place but he didn't..Instead he left us in the booth with dirty drinking glasses. The table cloth was dirty and the place had a horrible smell as If the sewer was backing up. To top that off they didn't have lasagna! Really?? I only gave it two stars because of the other waitress she helped out with getting clean glasses. Michael D shouldn't be a waiter he has no personality and he acts as if you are bothering him when you ask him for something. He started getting friendly when it was time to pay the check. I didn't want to leave him anything my husband gave him a $10.00 tip. Way too much!! I hope management reads this and have a talk with him and do something about that smell. I went back and gave this a second try last night on my birthday and really enjoyed our dinner. The service was fantastic, the drink specials were great and I would highly recommend getting the bottomless salad bowl - fantastic. Review of Juliet's Tavern. Went on July 18th, 3 couples prior to Jerry Seinfeld show at Rialto. Restaurant was crowded with pre-theater diners. Waiter was overwhelmed and unable to provide basics of service. One couple was having appetizers for dinner and requested that these be served when balance of food was served. Appetizers were served 30 minutes before balance of parties meals were served. Waiter was apologetic but said there was nothing he could do about it. They then ordered a salad that was never served. It was our 2nd time here in three months and the quality of the food was the same. POOR. They have a small menu and you would think that they could perfect getting it right for these items. Food is bland and visually unappealing. I believe that without the Rialto crowd this restaurant could not stand on its own. To bad there are just not any up-scale restaurants in downtown Joliet. My friend and I went here for lunch one day. When we walked in, we realized we were the only customers. We had to sit near the bar because apparently they didn't have any servers to wait on us in the dining room. Okay... My friend is vegan and there really was no vegan options. She tried to explain to the waitress all she wanted was vegetables in pasta. The waitress didn't understand, so she had the chef come talk to us. He was very nice and knew exactly what to do! (Side Note: When my friend told the waitress she wanted mushrooms in her pasta as one of her vegetables, the waitress said they didn't have mushrooms. We found that very odd for an Italian place. Then when she got her food, there were mushrooms. Weird...) I ordered the spaghetti. I originally wanted something with angel hair noodles, but they said they didn't have that. What Italian restaurant doesn't have angel hair pasta?! In conclusion, the food was pretty good despite all of our hassle ordering. The service was extremely weird though! This place is a little hard to review. They seem like they want to be an upscale restaurant but their staff, service and food are all on par or worse than something like an Applebee's. The hostess was borderline incompetent - she couldn't find our reservation and instead of a simple "sorry, but we'll seat you" she gave us attitude. Then there was some random guy sitting next to the hostess station that I think may be an employee but he was dressed like he was homeless (and if he wasn't an employee then you can ignore that part). The wait staff is also just okay. You'd expect some excellent waiters/waitresses for a place that's trying to be upscale but the waitress didn't know any of their drinks and then we kept getting a different person serving us. I think we counted four different people that took our order, served us drinks/food/refills and gave us the bill. The food is above average but not worth the cost. I've eaten here a few times and every time I just can't help but think it's basic and tasteless. Everyone that went with me agreed that the food was above average. However, due to how expensive the food is I have to say it's disappointing. I doubt I'll be back. There's just so many other places that do what this place is trying to do, and they do it well and with good food. read more

Service was great; we came in after the NASCAR race. Super nice male bartender who came and checked on us a lot. Really nice atmosphere. Pork chop was perfectly cooked and delicious. Pizza, however, was a disaster. They use a frozen crust and it was so tough and a bit burnt on bottom you had to cut it with a knife. Canned mushrooms. I was thinking the pizza would be sooo good as we were near to Chicago but I was super disappointed. I highly recommend to Juliet's to use a fresh handmade crust and fresh ingredients.
