Tried this place on a lark since we needed to run an errand in Bothell. So glad we did! I'm a huge fan of camarones al mojo de ajo, so I've had it at quite a lot of establishments. I have to say that the sauce used at Julio's ranks amongst the absolute best I've ever had. At first I thought that using white rice over Spanish rice was an unusual choice, but with the sauce, it works GREAT. There's a pretty good overall selection and the service was excellent. I don't typically take a lunch break while working out in the field but I am so glad that I did! There are some cute restaurants in this alleyway but Julio's stood out to me. It looked spacious and inviting. I was greeted pretty quickly and was served chips and salsa. I liked how thick their chips are and the salsa was fresh and tasty. I wanted something different from what I typically see at other Mexican restaurants so I chose the Puerco en Salsa Verde. It was served with a side of rice, refried beans and choice of flour or corn tortillas. I opted for flour. The rice was dry but that is the only not-so-positive comment I have. I'm a fan of salsa verde and this dish did not disappoint! Tender pork swimming in a bright pool of green goodness hit the spot. The portion is pretty big for a lunch which provided me enough leftover for dinner. Just as I was leaving, a large group sat in their outdoor seating area. I read all of the other reviews before choosing to stop in the Julio's for lunch. Really, the worst thing I could really see was that the interior might be a little outdated and that the staff was a bit curt. It was a beautiful day and we were offered the option of indoor or outdoor seating. We chose a booth and the hostess, who was very sweet, seated us immediately. Chips were also brought very quickly. Our waitress was a bit "brisk" but not without a smile. She was just busy and not wasting time. I ordered the avocado burrito with fajita veggies instead of meat, and it was really good! My only "complaint" might be that the pico de gallo was on the spicy side... but, seriously, most people like their Mexican food spicy, and I'm a wimp! Service was good (quick and kind), restaurant was-- admittedly-- a bit outdated, but food was really tasty! Who cares if there's a crack in the booth seat? read more

Julio's in Bothell downtown apparently has been around for a while. It serves a good variety of Mexican dishes and alcoholic drinks. I would call it a family restaurant. It's kid friendly. The interior is a bit outdated and could use a little remodeling. Seats are ripped in places, tables feel sticky. Menus don't smell good. Aside from that, the service is lovely and attentive. Mojitos are very good! I'd come back just for the mojito haha. They serve chips and salsa, which taste freshly made. Chips are thin and crispy. Salsa has a perfect level of spice (for my Caucasian taste buds). The tacos vampiros were pretty good. 2 tortillas stuck together with cheese in the middle, I've never seen that before but I approve. The steak was cooked perfectly. Steak fajitas were good. It's a huge portion. Lots of meat with onions and peppers. The only thing that threw me off is their sour cream...it didn't taste like sour cream at all...not sure what that was. I know that's a strange thing to pick up on but im Eastern European and sour cream is a staple that I know and love. I would come back here with kids to try more dishes. When you are trying to serve customers, you should not expect to be able to watch little ones. By having to constantly check on the activities of children, your patrons suffer from lack of timely service and experience undue wait times. Close to where I was staying overnight and high rating got me here. Warm welcome and friendly service (Alejandra) was a good sign. I wanted enchiladas but was restricted to just one sauce. So I ordered 3 "sides" so that I could get one red (beef), one green (pork), and one mole (chicken). The latter was my favorite. The only thing I didn't like was how quickly the tortillas fell apart. Guacamole was fresh and seasoned just right. Flan was creamy. Nice ambiance, plenty of seating inside and out and nice background music was pleasant. Will come back. read more

The menu was really good so I picked a favorite and it was fantastic. The service was excellent and we had a fabulous time.

Came here on a Sunday with a big group of friends and was able to be seated without any issues. We came shortly after the typical lunch time but it still felt a bit on the empty side. Most people did want to sit in their outdoor area since the weather was good. Parking was not hard to find. You will have better luck parking in their lot than trying to find street parking during the weekend here. Each table comes with chips and salsa. If you want refills of this, they charge. Though the chips and salsa were good, it wasn't good enough for anyone to ask for refills. If it was free I would probably give the location an extra star because otherwise their burrito I got was super dry. Rice, beans, and protein was all their burrito had. Sounds like a dollar burrito but it cost much more. The burrito came with salsa and sour cream on the side. It would have been much better if it was just inside the burrito. I would not come back here again if it was up to me to choose location. read more

Went to Julio's yesterday after visiting our son who lives in the area. We were craving Mexican food and figured we'd give this place a try cuz it had 4 stars. Food: not great not bad. Everything looked good. Presentation was simple but clean. Food had decent flavor but not strong or super flavorful. Like something was missing. Salsa was spicy and delicious. We think they make the own chips too. So that was nice. Hubby had chicken fajitas. He said they were tasty and he liked them. The chicken was done right. I had the carnitas. I would have liked it a little crispier but it was tender and moist. Though a little bland. Nothing the salsa, line, guac and salt couldn't cure. We also got 3 burritos to take home to the kids. They were thick and weighed like a brick. Kids enjoyed them. We'll give that a try next time for a meal on the run. Service: very good. Pleasant and attentive. Our server came to the table every single time w a huge smile. Where do you get that anymore. Julio opened shop back in 2010. His recreation of his mother's and grandmother's recipes from Jalisco was masterful. He spent about ten years building a loyal clientele. I was heartbroken to learn that he was selling the restaurant, but the new kitchen has stayed true to his recipes and have even made good additions. Julio's is my favorite Mexican restaurant because of its overall quality. Among the things that they do particularly well are carne asada (done medium), carnitas (flavorful and moist), chicken (moist), and shrimp. Their Mexican white rice is delicious and unique. My daughter & I ate there 9.9.25, my treat for her birthday. I ordered the Tacos with rice & beans. Daughter ordered enchiladas with rice & beans. Spectacular lunch! This is a real hidden gem. I'm very picky about my Mexican food, having grown up in New Mexico. Cilantro averse people like me: the pico, Salsa Verde, and chip salsa have plenty so avoid those. I had the Flautas and my friend had pollo de crema. The Flautas were well seasoned and well cooked. The pollo was juicy and bright. The refried beans were salted just right. Service was rapid and efficient; we were in, seated, fed, and good to go in under an hour. Awesome Saturday lunch location! Delivery review I heard emphatic recommendations for this place as much as ten years ago, and I'm only now finally getting around to trying it. Sorry, Liz! I believed you but it just took a while. These guys are absolutely out of control with the carne/skirt steak dishes. So good. Chips and Salsa Everybody gets these, so it's no surprise that they're their #1-rated dish on delivery apps. Who doesn't love chips and salsa? There's a reason why they're the most-common complimentary snack around...even though it's usually the exact same dish at 80-90% of places. Their guac is killer, which makes these even better. Taco Salad Not bad, but I don't think I'll get it with the carnitas again. It was kinda dry. Vampiros These were fantastic. Flour tortillas can be kinda bland, but that's alright. The meat was incredible. So juicy it seemed like it must have been braised or stewed, but all the texture and flavor of a good grilling. This is the kind of meat that makes you want a big wooden platter with just meat and a fork. The toppings were fine--fresh limes, good salsa, good guac, fresh chile pepper slices. Chilaquiles The chilaquiles themselves were great, just chewy enough. Star here was the skirt steak once again. I'll definitely be back over and over. Maybe I can talk them into serving the carne like a captain's platter at a bbq place. read more

Upon entering immed see the hand sanitizer in a tequila bottle - cute. Fast friendly and professional service. My husband, who does not like Mexican food and hates avocado, liked the guacamole AND the mole - the latter was soft and sweet, not overpowering; just right. He also loved the carne asado and shrimp (la mer y la tierra) while I enjoyed being able to have a Modelo Especial, which is almost never in stores. All around great time. I've gotten take out twice from Julio's (never eaten in store) 1st time: pork fajitas (amazing, so tender and great flavor), enchiladas, chips and salsa (for $1.99 you get a lot of chips but the salsa container is small - but the salsa is pretty spicy ), and extra guac (which at $3.99 for that small container is robbery IMO). Total from DoorDash without tip $42.31 2nd time: ordered 5 pork tacos and 5 chicken tacos off the lunch menu ($1.99 each) with a side of chips and salsa ($1.99) and two Mexican cokes ($2.99 each) Total from phone ordering without tip: $30.66 I loved the lunch time tacos, and at $1.99 each, it's a good deal! I think the chicken tacos were slightly juicier and more flavorful than the pork, which is interesting because the pork in the fajitas was out of this world (I'm guessing the tacos tasted more plain due to less ingredients to add flavor though). The tacos had lids of cilantro taste, so make sure to ask without that if you don't like the greens! read more

I really wanted to give this family style mexican place 4 star but will stick to 3 because of my enchilada. We got started with great looking chips and salsa... both of this were great but salsa was bit too citrusy...probably just added more lime there. We got don luis tacquitos...these were just great. Perfectly crispy. Great combination. Star of the day probably I ordered their chipotle enchilada and camarones a la diabla The shrimp were cooked well but fekt like they were steamed separately and then added to sauce. So i did cut few points for that. Chipotle enchilada was the leaat favorite. There was wayyy to much heavy cream in the sauce. It just masked all the smoky spiciness from chipotle and the most shocking thing for me was the enchilada had noooo cheese inside...just shredded chicken. I did mention it to my server who politely told me that is how it is... but later was corrected by manager to say it must have cheese and got me a single enchilada with cheese...but when she got the replacement enchilada the chef mentioned it should not have cheese. So i am confused but yes i was expecting cheese in it as per description. Overall I may try again but for family style mexican restaurants i do prefer few other places a bit more than this. read more

We have loved eating at Julio's since I moved to this area almost 8 years ago. The food is consistently delicious and the portion's generous. They make incredible black beans and the flavor of their rice is SO GOOD! Tonight we ordered a wet chicken burrito to share with a side of nachos. Both dishes were 10/10 on my yummy scale! The free chips and salsa to start were really good and the salsa actually had some good spice! We started with the top shelf margarita and it was perfect, not too sweet. To be honest, this isn't any restaurant to rave about. We started the night out with chips and salsa of course, but may I mention the chips were stale to the point it was like eating thin cardboard. The salsa was spicy water and flavored with absolutely nothing. Over all a disappointing first taste. Our second round of chips were a tiny bit less stale but the salsa stayed the same. I ordered their street tacos, something that I was told were really good. They were decent, they look pretty much like the picture you see on google but the tortillas they were on were extremely dry and the meat (steak) was nearly straight gristle. The flavor however was good. Only other part of my meal was the root beer I ordered to drink and it was flat and watered down, when I asked for a new soda it was also the same. The service was very nice, so that's a plus but not at all worth the amount of money spent. read more
