I've been coming to this location when it was POP's, since moving to this neighborhood in 2003. It holds a special place in our hearts. I've been bringing my 3 daughters here for father/daughter breakfasts since then almost every Sunday. They saw my kids grow up here. My wife and daughters knew the servers and always felt like VIP. Since Pop's officially closed, we were initially saddened that our familiar meals were gone. The taste, flavors, and hospitality kept us coming back year after year. We have roots here and cannot abandon them. So of course, we came back to see if we could continue the legacy of this unique space. We've been back a few more times since reopening and we can honestly say, we're back!! The food is still great if not better. All the cooks stayed and the same food I love stayed as well. We have new servers that are working hard to make it feel comfortable. The ambiance is still amazing and stays true to what kept this gem alive for so many decades. Don't give up on places like this. Stopped by yesterday for breakfast after parking by this place a few times to get Corazon Coffee. Overall it's a nice spot but does have some quirks to consider. June's (I believe they are changing the name back to Pop's soon?) is located off Main Street in downtown Santa Ana. There's plenty of paid street parking around, and they have indoor and outdoor seating. I would recommend sitting outdoor or in the left hand main room, because the right side where we sat felt like the overflow area that doesn't get attended too as frequently as the other areas. Service was nice in that everyone was pleasant and apologetic for the delays in service, however it took a very long time to get anything from a menu to a water refill. They also didn't pace the serving of food well, as my wife would get her food, and then I'd have to wait another 10 minutes for my meal to arrive. On the food front, the portions are huge. I got an omelette that tasted good, but was unfortunately made incorrectly. Their fried zucchini is fresh and also massive, you definitely get your moneys worth. I also tried the French toast which was just ok, it wasn't very flavorful but came in a large portion. The place is very no-frills, but still pretty good for what it is. I think this place is going through growing pains with the new ownership, but I would certainly give it another shot. If you're in the area and looking for a no-frills diner with big portions, then look no further than here. read more

June's Cafe has some the absolute best zucchini, hands down! And to accompany their zucchini, they have good ranch, because you know good ranch is hard to come by. I ordered their tuna sandwich on sourdough. Tuna need flavor for my liking, but they make up for it with the size of the sandwich! It's massive! Our service was also great! A nice young girl waited on us and she was very attentive. The cafe is small and gives off some serious nostalgia vibes. Parking anywhere in downtown Santa Ana is a nightmare, and it's meter parking so come prepared. All in all, good spot for some breakfast or Lunch, or both! read more

It's a great place for brunch in a cute and quaint diner setting near downtown Santa Ana. The fried zucchini with ranch dressing make for a nice appetizer. When I walked in; which is quite small inside, it has an old look to it, could be cleaner, had 1 table that could have used a wipe- down. Did not wait long for meal. The server had ask what I wanted and went for the breakfast burrito (sausage and bacon; extra crispy) and ice coffee. when I opened the container the eggs were cooked well-perfect, not over cooked at all. the green salsa is good; not spicy at all.. bit into the burrito and it is delicious.. Four stars for this venerable "mom and pop" cafe in a quaint little spot off Main Street in Downtown Santa Ana. I think Pop's Cafe has been around since 1942 - according to store signage and the menu. I was teetering between 3 and 4 stars - but the food and service was what won me over. It wasn't a perfect experience - but the positives definitely helped balance the negatives. My group sat outside, since the interior was a bit cramped. There's only a few tables inside, and a bar-style seating. They did have a cool art-deco design though. Our server - I didn't catch his name - a young gentleman - was very attentive and prompt with our orders and bringing out our food, as well as condiments that we asked for (ketchup, hot sauce, syrup). Prompt on the refills too! Food was great for the most part - I ordered the Two Eggs, Two Pancakes, and Polish Sausage plate. The buttermilk pancakes definitely stand out - not only for the rich, buttery taste - but also how fluffy they were. And these weren't just tiny pancakes - I had just two pancakes - but was full after eating one of them, my eggs, and most of my polish sausage. Only downside was biting into a bone (???) in one of the polish sausage cuts. I had to double check, since I was surprised to find bone in the cut. My group's meals also looked decent - they all ordered various kinds of omelettes. They all liked their picks. Menu has both breakfast favorites and a lunch menu offering sandwiches and burgers. We were there relatively early - so only ordered from their breakfast menu. Prices were great, considering the area. Okay - so the restroom is sorta connected to the restaurant, but accessible from the outside. I raised an eyebrow as the server explained that you "make a right at the alley, walk down the alley, make another right, and up the stairs to the restroom". It was clean - which is a plus - but a bit sketchy from the directions lol. Ngl, I was like "wtf?" as he was giving directions and said "walk down the alley". It reminded me of a popular taco spot down in TJ that my team used to frequent after our monthly medical clinics we used to run pre-pandemic. They had an external outhouse that you had to walk on the outside of the restaurant to get to. Parking can be messy and a bit tight, considering the area. There are six parking meters upfront - you can pay electronically by downloading the ParkMobile app. If you're willing to hunt for spots further out - with a short 5 minute walk - there's two-hour parking off 8th St. between N Bush and N Spurgeon. It's about a block away from the cafe. Overall, other than the amusing directions to an exterior-access but connected restroom, the random bone in my polish sausage - this is a decent cafe with great prices. There's definitely a retro charm to the place. Just keep in mind that the smaller dining space and parking can be messy during popular dining hours. read more

Pop's cafe is such a cozy and welcoming place. You feel like you've been transported to a diner in the 80s. Our server was such a sweet lady who brought our food out right away. We ordered the avocado toast which was the special that week and the pancakes, eggs, and sausage. Although the food wasn't extraordinary, it was filling, tasty, comfort food. This is a solid breakfast place - they reopened under a new name June's Cafe and am back under their previous owners. When we got there around 11:00 am Sunday they were pretty busy, but staff was attentive and seated us promptly. We got the breakfast burrito and club sandwich - burrito was filling and tasty with crispy hash brown inside, and club sandwich had a generous portion of turkey and bacon. They're baaaaaaaaack! After being closed for the last couple of months "Pops Cafe" finally reopened. However it will now be called "June's Cafe." The inside looks freshened up with a new coat of paint and the menus are updated. I didn't get to browse the new menus because I only had one thing in mind, the country fried steak breakfast! It's always been my go-to for the last couple of years at Pop's. I'm picky about it and appreciate a country fried steak that is not too crunchy or overcooked but just the right amount of crunch and tenderness. The verdict, it was AMAZING!! It tasted like before and I was happy the recipe didn't change. I highly recommend you check them out. Parking is via meters which accept quarters but you can download a parking app which makes it easy to pay for parking in Downtown Santa Ana. You don't find many places like Pop's -- it is reminiscent of the simple diners I ate at as a child or the ones you'd find on a random road trip in the middle of nowhere. First off, beware of parking tickets! While food is cheap at Pop's, if you factor in a parking ticket, you're going to wish you had spent that money at brunch at Orange Hill! The inside is very simple, but clean. On the other hand, the bathroom is really bad -- like "maybe you should hold it until you get home" bad. It's behind the building, with a door the doesn't close, dank, home to a zillion mosquitos, and pretty gross. Our waitress couldn't have been nicer and service was prompt. I wish I remember her name to give her a public thank you! The menu has all the staple American food you'd expect. I was shocked to see how the inexpensive things were -- I've been so accustomed to the blown up prices since Covid and wild inflation... Our bill for four people, with tip, was $47 dollars. Onto the food -- portions are hearty! I ordered the "3 golden pancakes -- $6.99" and the server looked me over and kindly told me that I wouldn't be able to finish it. I'm a massive eater, but I took her advice, and I'm glad I did. While I easily knocked out my two pancakes, I helped finish everyone else's food -- my son's pancakes and eggs and my wife's french toast. I was stuffed! The pancakes were tasty and the eggs were standard. We had both fried and grilled french toast. Fried was interesting, but a little dry. You're better off ordering the grilled. The verdict? Pretty good overall. It was a nice change from our regular places and was shockingly inexpensive. This is definitely not the breakfast to impress your partner, but I'm glad places like this still exist. I'm sure we will be back and hopefully the mosquitoes will be gone! read more
