You don't find many places like Pop's -- it is reminiscent of the simple diners I ate at as a child or the ones you'd find on a random road trip in the middle of nowhere. First off, beware of parking tickets! While food is cheap at Pop's, if you factor in a parking ticket, you're going to wish you had spent that money at brunch at Orange Hill! The inside is very simple, but clean. On the other hand, the bathroom is really bad -- like "maybe you should hold it until you get home" bad. It's behind the building, with a door the doesn't close, dank, home to a zillion mosquitos, and pretty gross. Our waitress couldn't have been nicer and service was prompt. I wish I remember her name to give her a public thank you! The menu has all the staple American food you'd expect. I was shocked to see how the inexpensive things were -- I've been so accustomed to the blown up prices since Covid and wild inflation... Our bill for four people, with tip, was $47 dollars. Onto the food -- portions are hearty! I ordered the "3 golden pancakes -- $6.99" and the server looked me over and kindly told me that I wouldn't be able to finish it. I'm a massive eater, but I took her advice, and I'm glad I did. While I easily knocked out my two pancakes, I helped finish everyone else's food -- my son's pancakes and eggs and my wife's french toast. I was stuffed! The pancakes were tasty and the eggs were standard. We had both fried and grilled french toast. Fried was interesting, but a little dry. You're better off ordering the grilled. The verdict? Pretty good overall. It was a nice change from our regular places and was shockingly inexpensive. This is definitely not the breakfast to impress your partner, but I'm glad places like this still exist. I'm sure we will be back and hopefully the mosquitoes will be gone! read more

Great home breakfast to eat. Everything was fantastic. The waffles were really crunchy. Pancakes were fluffy and well made. I like to order my scrambled eggs with cheese on top and it never misses. Service was quick. Servers are nice and are always checking on you to see if you need anything else. Ambiance was great. Decided to give pops a second chance... Pops used to be such a cool spot to grab your good old American breakfast until it just didn't. Service is ff horrible, idk if they have a new cook but holy cow most orders were wrong around me when I came in. They constantly cut people pff who come in because they're so understaff they can't keep up.... They have recently close off the other side and packed the smaller side with tables and chairs making it super cramped in there. Coffee is meh, no spoons or cutlery provided. My breakfast plate (2 eggs, bacon and hashbrowns) took 30 mins to get to me and my side pancake never arrived until I was ready for the check. Didn't even have the chance to eat. My partner asked if we could put our names down for outdoor seating, they said it's first come first serve. We went around the corner to grab coffee and came back to sit. We sat at a far end table and no one ever came to take our order. Other people arrived after us and were served before us. Servers kept coming out but never came to us. We sat there for almost 10 mins before we decided to leave and when we did, someone else sat in that exact table and were attended almost immediately. Metered or permit parking in most areas and lots, but I found a free street parking area just past the roundabout to the east of the restaurant. Iced coffee and Pop's country breakfast (biscuit, sausage patty, gravy, egg, and Irish potatoes - hash Browns with onions and peppers) for me. Loved both! Rather large serving, which was appreciated. Now this was an amazing find! In the heart of Santa Ana across from the School of the Arts on Main Street. A passage back in time to a charming neighborhood cafe with friendly, personal attention. Our server was so friendly and helpful, who took pride in his work and obviously knew the menu well. His recommendations were spot on. I was craving a good waffle treat for breakfast and I found it! The eggs and sausage links were the perfect complement to the sweet, crunchy goodness of the Belgian waffle. Even the butter on top had the perfect salty, creamy flavor that takes the waffle over the top. We sat out front under the canopy and enjoyed the cool breeze and warm weather. I have to say I haven't been to Pop's Cafe as much as I should and my visit this week confirmed that. Pop's Cafe is a cute little breakfast spot with a great vibe and service. My go to is always the eggs breakfast cus I love my hash browns and sausage links in the morning. I also have to highlight just how friendly the staff are. During my last visit they made sure to offer water to a pregnant Postal Worker when she stopped by during her route. That was a little confusing Irish potatoes are actually hashbrowns with bell peppers on them. They do not have Irish potatoes FYI. We wanted to go to a classic breakfast spot while driving through Santa Ana. My friend (and great banjo player) John Rosen is an expert on breakfast places, so he recommended Pop's. As quaint, as this place appears to be, it's food and service has a lot to be desired for & unfortunately none of that meet up to reasonable standards for a breakfast spot. To be brutally honest, ihop is better than this spot, however I will say I needed to eat before hitting the road & at the very least, I accomplished that. Not that I would return to dine again. Food was bland. A basic egg benedict (that's essentially a poached egg for 1-3 min) was served overcooked missing out on the runny-ness of the broken yolk with, what I could only assume is, a packet powdered Hollandaise sauce. Very well missed the mark on this one. On the upside. Ample parking available in the nearby parking area or metered street parking. One star for parking availability. This place used to be great. Now its barely mediocre. Food was below average. Service was average. Had to ask the server for a new mug since mine had lipstick stains on it. Coffee was luke warm. We were looking for a nearby pancake breakfast place and our niece's daughter told us about Pop's Cafe off of 9th street and Main. Sure enough you see the patrons sitting in the tables set up on the sidewalk and there are seats inside the small cafe area, more 2 people tables and a few single barstools tables. The breakfast was delicious as I ordered the French toast, hash browns (could have fed up to 3 people), sausage and 2 eggs, anyway for me they gave me an extra egg because the yoke wasn't sunny side up on one as I had asked, no extra charge. Service was great even when it became crowded with more walk in customers. Older building but was maintained clean and dining area was smaller inside but was adequate.
