Consistently slow service. Myself and colleagues have similar experiences here which is why we've stopped coming. It's not any better if you order to go. Today was another example of poor service. I called for a to go order. They placed me on hold and never picked up. I walked over (I was nearby) and pointed out I had been on hold for almost 10 minutes. The lady behind the counter gave me attitude and said they "sometimes forget" about people the phone, as if it's no big deal and something I should come to expect from any restaurant. She then tells me it's really busy today. The problem with that statement? There are exactly 8 tables including outside and several are empty and the almost the entire counter is open (there are 2 people there). At least apologize and own your mistake. All will be forgiven. Give me attitude and that's just inexcusable. This is why so many people don't come here anymore... which is a shame because the food is not terrible. read more

Sunday 4-27-24 8:10am My husband and I like Pop's Cafe never had a problem ordering here. We always had good service but this morning was bad. Only 2 females were working and took 10 minutes to take our order. Not too many customers but more were arriving as we waited. We asked for more coffee they said the coffee maker wasn't working and we had to wait. At almost 8:45 am the family next to us who came in after us were getting some of their food. My husband asked where's ours? She said it's coming. Then we heard, the order was up the other girl picked it up and gave their order to the family next to us. Now my husband was upset. The one lady seems confused and very flustered by this point came back to us and said that the cook may have lost your order and wanted to know what we ordered. My husband said we're leaving and just paying for our coffee she said no you don't have to. I understand if you are short-handed but to blame the cook for your mistake looks bad. Side note: There was a big group before us that had a big order maybe that delayed us or what I don't know but this was disappointing and had to get our breakfast elsewhere. read more

Mediocre at best. Stopped in based on high reviews & we were pretty disappointed. My husband said the pops special tasted like a frozen breakfast sandwich smothered in canned gravy. My #5 was lacking in moisture so I ordered salsa; they only had Pico de gallo so that was disappointing. My review could have been better if our service was well. My mother and I came here on Monday about 11am. The service from this younger gal was horrible. We waited outside for someone to seat us and unfortunately her being the waitress was coming around 4-5 times. She didn't greet us nor acknowledge us. We waited about 10 to 15 min and since no one sat us or greeted us we sat outside on a table that had been pre bussed (dishes that were still left on the table) so I moved the dishes inside and waited for out waiter another 15 min. Unfortunately even after we made eye contact ,she never acknowledged us, greeted us, nor decided to serve us until I asked her for her assistance. Her service was poorly executed since she never came around to check up on us nor fill our drinks like the rest of the crowd that was there. We are sad to say we felt out of place and unwanted. Slave girl forced me to go to Santa Ana with her for an event before the sun came out. After waiting for awhile, I got hangry and started to bitch and moan about how life should be better spent at a diner on a weekend morning. That was when Pop's Cafe came to rescue. This old school, Coca Cola themed joint was located in the middle of no where. It was small and cozy inside with bar seats available. The restaurant was so small there was no direct access to the restroom and only reachable through the side alley of the restaurant. There were breakfast and lunch available on the menu when we got there. There was also daily special but sadly not on the weekends. I went with country fried steak and eggs with a side of Polish sausage, she got corn beef hash with two eggs. Country fried steak was not bad except a little blad for me. After adding salt it was fine. The eggs were cooked just right. Running yolks and all, perfect with my sourdough toast. The Irish potatoes was interesting since I have never had it before. It was pretty much hash brown with bell peppers, light on the seasonings. I wished my potato was cooked a little longer because it was kind of mushy. The Polish sausage was a disappointment to me. For $3.75, I got 3 half sausages. There was no difference in flavors compared to a regular sausage. Don't order this side if you like your wallet. Corn beef hash was good. Nothing fancy about it. The egg was cooked well and the Irish potatoes also helped slave girl to be full. Overall experience was decent. The food portion was huge except my side order. The service could be better especially since we sat at the bar. Our coffee and water were empty for awhile, but they gave us our coffee to go upon request when we paid our bill. If I am in the area again, I would go back to try the daily special. read more

I love Pop's Cafe!! Cute little breakfast ship located in Santa Ana. luckily it's just a couple minutes away from our motel. The only thing about this location is that there really is no parking. The lot is reserved for another establishment so you would have to park on the streets and pay the meter (which was totally fine to us.) The food portions here are tremendously friendly. Prices are unbeatable. I love their frenchtoast! They're perfect size for me and tastes delicious. My fiancé enjoyed their country fried steak and my father in law definitely had a hard time finishing his stack of hot cakes. They were HUGE!!!! So if you are thinking of getting hot cakes/pancakes just order one and share. Those things are GINORMOUS! Bacon was extra crunchy, just like how we like it. Service was amazing. This time my bother ordered the pops country breakfast and a stack of 3 pancakes, overall he said he enjoyed it but did mention the biscuit was a bit too dry for his liking.The pancakes he said were hot and soft in the center but the outside tasted stale. I orders the steak and eggs with squaw bread and a side of churros. To be honest the food lacked seasoning for me and I rememeber I felt the same way the first time we visited. The squaw bread was slightly burnt this time and I didn't really enjoy it much...& the churros were just as hard as the first time i ordered them ( overcooked at a high temp). Had a great pastrami and BLT sandwiches for lunch once. But the first time we went in for breakfast. I had the corned beef hash and my wife had sausage biscuit and gravy with eggs on the side. Highly recommend this place if you are looking for breakfast. Be aware that they close early like right after the lunch time. First up, chicken fried steak. OMG, this is definitely one of the best chicken fried steak that I've had in OC area. The batter outside the steak had just the right amount of saltness and pepperiness. It's fried perfectly with a touch of sausage gravy. There wasn't enough gray on top of the fried steak, so we requested for more. Beware it's $1.50 more for the extra gravy, which we should have been made area. I don't think the restaurant should charge extra for the gravy anyways... so that's where the half star is off. Second dish up, corn beef hash with hash brown and eggs sunny side up style. The corn beef had perfect amount of saltiness. It went well with the extra crispy hash brown. The egg was cooked perfect, such that the egg yolk was runny without egg whites uncooked.
