After living a number of years in Tennessee up the road from Chester Frost Park, when I decided to…read morereturn to the area as a visitor, I needed a place to camp and I knew this park would fit the bill. I have visited the park numerous times over the years while I lived here, but had never camped or stayed in the camping area. The park is well-maintained, at least the campsites are. They have easy access and are nice and level with good fire pits in picnic tables for each one. Being from the area, it was not a surprise to me to have the Lake level low when I was here in March because I know that TVA lowers the lake every winter for flood control And raises it back up in April so the water level didn't bother me. The check-in experience online was simple and straightforward. The staff at the range station are outstanding, very personable and friendly. I stayed for a week and enjoyed myself. The only downside was the showers and the bath houses. They are a little rundown and need to be upgraded. Other than that. It's a nice campground clean and well kept. People were friendly and it's a beautiful area to hang out and just enjoy the outdoors.

We just spent 3 nights with two other families there. One family has two littles, one couple had their young grandson, and we are part time empty nesters. There is something for everyone!!! Lots of water for our kayaks, other's jet skis and of course several boat docks! The RV sites are good size, with water & electric. Tent camping sites looked pretty good as well. It is a truly hidden jewel so close to Chattanooga & Dayton TN. Been living in East TN for 21 years and never knew about this wonderful spot. We will be back!

The attendants at the check-in are so helpful. I booked the next available appointment, which was about an hour or so away, but that left me plenty of time to take in views from the observation decks. There is also a restaurant in the castle as well as zip lining, if you want additional things to do while you wait for your guided tour to begin. (I recommend getting your tickets online if you come in a group, especially during the summer months and on weekends.) Parking is free and there are numerous places to park. The experience is really eye-opening and the video at the beginning tells the story of the cave formation and why it was named Ruby Falls. Very interesting! The walk takes about 60-70 minutes back and forth. You will see amazing stalagmites and stalactites along the way. Distinct lighting is added to the cave to enhance your experience. Our guide was very knowledgeable and explained everything in detail. It does get cool down in the caves (around 60 degrees) and I was glad I took a light jacket once I got about halfway through the process. The waterfall and the lighting at the end were something to see! Minor issues-they packed about 40-50 people in our tour group. A group leaves every 10 minutes or so. As such, you have to hug up against a wall NUMEROUS times as previous groups are coming back from the waterfall experience. You have to make room to let them pass. The wait for the elevator to take you back up to the top is also a tedious wait. This could be due to the summer crowds, so plan accordingly. If you are claustrophobic, this may not be the experience for you.

We've done various cave type tours around the US on our travels and this would not be one I would return to. It's such a cool waterfall and cave but completely ruined by management trying to cram as many people in as possible to make more money. We had about 40-50 people in our group and the entire time you are expected to stop and go to one side to let other groups of 40-50 people go by. With this many people in the narrow walkway, you can expect it to smell like sweat and any other odors of people near/passing by you. They also kick you out of the waterfall area within a few minutes because you are then holding up other tours. The staff and tour guides throughout our experience were really pleasant and the waterfall was beautiful. We were just shocked that they allow group sizes that big and in 10 minute intervals each. It truly ruined the experience for us and management should be ashamed as there are hundreds of similar reviews stating the same concerns.

When we decided to leave someone stopped us on the way out and complained that we drove over a hose that was emptying soapy water across the road. There is a 2 lane paved road leading to the location, you do NOT need an SUV, it's a totally normal road. The driveway is very steep as are almost all driveways here as we are in the mountains. There is a large gravel road/dam that you drive across to get to their location. Yes there was some boat wake maybe 5 xs the entire trip we were passed by a boat (and it's the week of the 4th of July) no one tipped, the kids loved riding the wake. There was a nice little picnic area and we waited here for the guide approximately ten minutes as we were instructed by our confirmation text when booking. The life jackets are in good condition and hanging on a clothesline. I have no idea if they sanitize them because I didn't ask. The bathroom is a little yard barn deal with a flushing toilet and shower and it was immaculate. It does have a curtain for a door but I was completely concealed. It is different than other kayaking places because there's not much of a current my 12-year-old went and was able to paddle up and downstream without any issue. It was a nice day, reasonably priced and met our expectations. Pros Incredibly beautiful Easy to find Friendly staff Reasonably priced A bit of a workout paddling Cons Not very shaded in open water so hot Waited a bit (ten minutes) for guide A bit of a workout paddling The sign for the location is after the driveway, they could improve this (solution.... we backed up ten feet ;))
