    the "Garden"
    Joseph S.

3 Michelin stars for food, presentation, and service, but one aspect fell short of what I'd expect at this level. We had a memorable night! The only add-on option beyond beverages was a $75 sea urchin course, which felt like an upsell rather than a true enhancement and we passed. You prepay the tasting menu when you reserve (ours was $1,340 for four), then layer on drinks. We had a round of cocktails (about $25 each), the chef's signature wine pairing ($225), and two "Ban-ban" mixed pairings ($175 each), which were the highlight on the beverage side. With tax and a 25% tip, the bill came to roughly $2,700, which is steep given the overall beverage experience. I won't spoil the many theatrical touches, but the final dessert course, "the garden," was the one element that truly felt magical. My biggest gripe beyond the overly long wine descriptions is the red wine pours, which were extremely stingy at maybe 2 ounces each. The wines (three French whites, an Oregon white, a Napa red from the PlumpJack group, another red, and a Hungarian Tokaji) paired reasonably well but none were exceptional, and I suspect most were under $100 a bottle, which undercuts the value at this price point.

    Opening amuse bouche. Amazing

Phenomenal. Came here with friends who have been decade plus patrons of the restaurant. Had the premium tasting menu. First off, upscale white table cloth fine dining restaurant that could be used for any cuisine. A little unique for an asian restaurant since most upscale asian restaurants lean into traditional decor. This could have been Per Se as much as it was Jungsik Tasting menu always varies so please look at photos for the dishes. Standouts include: Octopus: Best octopus I have ever had. Perfectly cripsy exterior surrounding a very tender interior. Opening amuse bouche: Phenomenal bites with excellent flavour Artic char was also solid. Really, there were no bad dishes here. They ranged from above average to best I ever had (octopus) Service was classic Michelin 3 star with precision and execution. Well done.

My 3rd 3-star restaurant experience after 11 Madison and Per Se. Overall, the experience was good although I'm still not sure if I can distinguish what separates a 2 star from a 3 star. The reservation was a real hassle to get as well because they ended up renovating but it went on longer than they were communicating at first. Standouts for me were: - Octopus: somehow the outside is so crispy while the inside is tender. The best textured octopus I've ever had - Mandoo: the piece of meat on top really melted in your mouth - dol dessert: the black bean in the statue was almost like chocolate, probably the best black bean paste I've ever had I didn't really like the strawberry dessert and the barley rice with the galbi dish felt off to me. I had the seoul mule which was a refreshing drink and the onijarita which is stronger and smoker because of the mezcal. I'd get the mule again but not the latter. They also gave us a printout of the menu upon request.

This is a review from July 2025. The menu doesn't change too often. My favorite Korean fine dining restaurant in NYC. Definitely earned the 3 stars. If you are expecting strong korean flavors, you will be disappointed. It is best to consider it as french korean fusion. All the proteins are perfectly cooked. The octopus is the best octopus in NYC. It was crispy on the outside, very tender on the inside and accompanied with a gochujang sauce. The desserts are creative and tasty. Service was excellent and attentive. The carrot is a must for add ons.

2nd 3 star Michelin meal that I've tried. This one was interesting, but incredible. First off, they open exactly at 5 pm. We had a reservation at 5, but got there around 4:45 pm. The doors were locked, curtains were shut, and we thought, "Are we at the right place?" I wish they allowed us to wait inside instead of making us stand awkwardly around the street. Anyways, the inside was pretty small, just a few tables and a bar area. The table we were sitting at was right by a tall windows where we got some natural light. The first banchan dish was probably the best main dish of the night. Six mini bites of strong, unique flavors and textures that I absolutely loved. Each of them had their own signature taste that I have never put inside my mouth before. Moving along, the next dish was also one of my favorites: it was fish with caviar and a very light and flavorful sauce. I loved it. The next two dishes were okay. The fried octopus was honestly my least favorite. The flavors were too strong and made me borderline nauseous that I could only eat half of it before giving it to my brother to finish. That usually never happens, so I'm not sure why or what they did to prepare that octopus to make me feel so revolted. That's probably just a me thing though, since I hear so much rave about the octopus. The salmon was good and the caviar that came along with it was delish. The most fun dish was the hand roll, where we got a little pair of tweezers to put the fish onto the roll with each subsequent bite. Definitely something to remember. The beef was fine, and the first dessert was decent. But oh my god the Jeju statue dessert was AMAZING!! First of all, it was plated so stunningly and the detail or the statue, rocks, ice cream, and even choice of plate was immaculate. It was the cutest thing and so so beautiful. We got an add-on order of the carrot dessert which was expensive but so unique. We got to "pick" the carrots from this dirt-filled container, and it was served with some ice cream. It had cream cheese filling and had a great crunchy exterior. The carrot looked insanely realistic, and you could really see how much effort they put into drawing the dirt and lines on the carrots. Hospitality was amazing, 10/10. Our main server was so nice and delightful to talk to. Great experience, pretty good food, but a lot of unique flavors.

4/10. Crunchy quinoa was a nice touch. I've had better uni at our local sushi joint

What was supposed to be a special anniversary dinner turned into one of the most disappointing fine-dining experiences I've had in New York--full stop. Besides the banchan ;The food was boring, bland, and painfully uninspired from the very first course, and somehow managed to get worse as the night dragged on. Dishes arrived cold when they absolutely should have been hot, with zero attention to detail and no discernible flavor. For a Michelin-starred tasting menu, the portions were laughable. We left genuinely hungry. That alone says everything. Service was sloppy and amateurish, completely lacking the precision, warmth, or professionalism expected at this level. Adding insult to injury, the dining room was freezing--colder than a homeless shelter--making an already miserable experience even more uncomfortable. It was so cold they even offered shawls - tacky and gross. For context, I dine regularly at Michelin-starred restaurants across NYC and have visited almost every Korean Michelin-starred restaurant in the city. Without question, this was the worst of them all. Every one-star restaurant I've been to has delivered a far superior experience. After last night, I'm genuinely shocked Jungsik still holds three stars--there was absolutely nothing memorable, creative, or exceptional about this meal. I've since spoken with friends who own Michelin-starred restaurants themselves, and even they were stunned by how far off the mark this experience was for a restaurant of this supposed caliber. What should have been a meaningful anniversary celebration turned into something we couldn't wait to be over. A complete failure on every level.

    Mandoo
    Julie N.

Incredible experience from start to end. Came here last Saturday as a party of 4 and we were seated quickly. I had the yuzu sour, which was delicious and seemed to be a popular choice. The testing menu started with several quick bites inspired by banchan and these were honestly some of my favorite flavors of the evening. The entire meal was spectacular, with standouts being the octopus (crispy on the outside, tender juicy and perfectly textured on the inside), the uni rice add on (so much uni! So buttery and fresh) and the short rib. The only dish that wasn't particularly interesting was the mandoo, which I thought was a bit flavorless compared to everything else. Desserts, which tend to be an afterthought for me, were excellent- I loved the cute sesame statue (delicious, inventive and fun!) and the garden of "vegetables" at the end was such a lovely way to end the meal. I was so stuffed by then, but the sweet corn and the pumpkin were packed full of fun flavors. Overall, I can completely understand the hype and Jungsik is absolutely deserving of its 3 stars.

Jungsik has never been better. Always an outstanding restaurant, it is now one of the best restaurants in the world. The quality, creativity and level of service are as good as any restaurant in NY. It is a joy to be able to eat at Jungsik.

So, we walk in all excited for our Michelin-level night out, and the host smiles and says, "We have your reservation... at the bar." Not exactly the fairytale start I imagined. For a brief moment, I considered just eating a pretzel in the car and calling it a night. Luckily, they fixed it fast, and from that point on, it was pure redemption. The service? Impeccable. The food? Somewhere between art and sorcery. The amuse-bouche looked like something you'd see in a modern art museum, except this one you actually want to eat. The caviar course tasted like money and good decisions. The octopus was so tender I felt slightly guilty for ever calling seafood "rubbery." Every course came out like clockwork, and by dessert, I had completely forgiven them for the reservation mix-up. This is one of those meals that ruins other restaurants for you. Five stars.

Beverages were fun but all pricey. Food wise, I was impressed by the Banchan and the mandu. There were three below expectation dishes: Octopus, sea urchin bibimbap, and yellowtail kimbop were all too unpleasantly crispy, such that the nice ingredients were deprived of their original flavors. The sea urchin was even a bit funky. Unfortunately, the rest of the menu was unmemorable. Service was ok but not outstanding. I find the restaurant lacking sophistication in comparison to other three stars. I enjoyed Jua and Joo Ok a lot more.

Incredible food and experience. Intimate ambiance and staff were extremely nice and funny. Was never a fan of uni or octopus until I came here. Oh my god, IT WAS SO GOOD. My mouth experienced a spiritual enlightenment course after course here HOLYYY Every course was phenomenal and the wine pairing was perfect. Would highly recommend for any sort of intimate celebration or date:) Ps. They have matchboxes!!

My son and I had to be in New York for an event but as I was also celebrating my birthday, we decided to book reservations at Jungsik since it was the 1st Korean restaurant to earn 3 Michelin stars. I've been to Michelin Star restaurants before but my experience at Jungsik was definitely one for the record books. Upon entering, we were greeted with professionalism and an offer to relieve us of baggage that I held in my hand. We were then escorted to our table. The ambience in this restaurant was astonishing. It was warm and inviting but also elegant and sophisticated. I could see and feel the luxury experience. Each server that approached our table did so with the utmost precision and carefully placed and prepared our dishes accordingly. They even took the time to explain what everything was and clarified how best to eat it. I had specific dietary restrictions that I informed the restaurant about a week in advance. They took the necessary steps to ensure that they created special dishes for me on their signature menu. Their service was on point! I was absolutely impressed by every single dish that was served. They first provided a special drink that was refreshing, very flavorful, appetite enhancing, and a palate cleanser for the beginning of our experience. There were a total of 15 diverse dishes. We started with Banchan, 6 small dishes, and finished off with 9 dishes from their signature menu. I truly enjoyed every single item served; however, my favorites were the Soy Bean Soup with Truffle Pearls, Striped Jack, Octopus, Arctic Char, and Yellowtail Kimbap. All dishes were prepared and cooked to perfection. The presentation and display of everything were top notch. The icing on the cake for me was when they presented one of the dishes with Happy Birthday text on the plate and a candle to top it off. The experience alone is worth a second visit, but the quality, texture, consistency, flavor, and quantity of dishes served along with the servers professionalism and the elegance of the evening warrants future visits. My birthday celebration at this restaurant will forever be remembered. Thank you to the staff and chefs at Jungsik for an exceptional visit!

I am giving Jungsik 4 stars because while the food and support team were easily a 5/5, our lead service kept the overall experience from being completely flawless. * The Food: Undeniably excellent and highly creative. Every dish was beautifully executed, and from a culinary standpoint, the meal was absolutely fantastic. * The Support Team: I want to give massive credit to the broader service team. They were attentive, professional, and provided amazing service throughout the night. They essentially did all the heavy lifting for our table. * The Miss: I feel it is important to bring a noticeable issue to management's attention regarding our lead server, Oscar. He greeted us at the beginning of the meal and reappeared at the end, but was completely absent in between. He never once checked on our table. Overall: Jungsik is a phenomenal restaurant. I am sharing this review because I want to ensure the hardworking support staff gets the recognition they truly deserve, and to make management aware of why this wasn't quite a perfect 5-star evening for us.

What does the non alcoholic pairing menus consist on?

The non alcoholic pairings for me were all non alcoholic versions of wines, Sauvignon blanc, rose, reds. The host explained that they take wines and use heat to burn off the alcohol without boiling the wine. Most of them were very dry and acidic…

Here's what we ordered: ~ Tako Wasabi - 5/5 stars A fiery delight. This appetizer feartures chopped raw octopus marinated in wasabi. It has a lively zest from the wasabi and is topped with tobiko, which adds a pleasant contrast in texture. ~ Honey Makgeolli - 4/5 stars A traditional fermented Korean beverage that is light and pairs brilliantly with your meal. It is a cloudy alcholoic drink served in a metal teapot, and surprisingly, there is much more in that teapot than you would expect. It easily provides six to eight generous pours. The flavor is subtly sweet with a pleasant tang. ~ Temaki Set - 4/5 stars You can order a set of three by choosing from selections 1-17, or you can order a la carte at the listed prices. Some of the temaki stood out more than others. Our two sets included marinated salmon, bluefin tuna, spicy yellowtail, spicy bluefin, and two dynamite temaki. ~ Spicky Pork Ssam Set - 5/5 stars Truly another standout entree that even surpassed my beloved grilled BBQ bossam. You received a generous basket of assorte greens, including romaine, kale, perilla leaves, dandelion leaves, nappa cabbage, and more. Probably the best KBBQ experience I've had in NYC so far…read more It's definitely not cheap, but I thought it was worth it. We got the large set for 4 and there was more than enough food for everyone. Didn't order any drinks, but the meat quality was excellent, and our server cooked everything pretty well so we could just sit back and enjoy. The service was top-notch too. They kept bringing out refills of the side dishes including steamed egg without us having to ask, which I always appreciate. We made a reservation, which I'd recommend especially on a weekend, and got seated right away with no wait. The set also came with vanilla ice cream at the end. Another nice bonus is that if you pay in cash (there's an ATM inside), you get about 10% off. If you don't mind spending a little more for really good quality and service, I'd definitely recommend this place!

We were early too, they seated us, and then they came by to ask if we wanted to place an order about 4-5 times before the party was completely there. And when we wanted to order more food, at the 45 minute mark, they had to "check if there was time left" on our reservation. I understand they're very busy and have bookings, but it was only about 45 minutes in. Anyways, the experience itself was great. They cooked all our food for us and everything was great quality. Banchans were refreshed and refilled - sometimes without being asked. We were very well taken care of. The pancake was good as well as the tartare. HIghlight was definitely the meat and banchans though. We all got ice cream at the end and birthday boy even got a candle in his with some sprinkles. Super cute and very nice of them.

The slaw was good. The radish had a bit too much a jalepeno taste from what I was used to. Impressive looking dish! Was pretty good! The kimchi fried rice with steak - it's like 5 slices of steak but it's so good. Fried egg too. I finished that whole thing so fast. I can't even lie, it was so good. I could see myself getting this again. Vibes are immaculate, the service was good with my glass never getting empty. They have a max sit time of an hour and 45 minutes. Kinda pricy but def has the vibes and decent upscale-type Korean food!

We ordered marbled beef steak and naengmyeon, hoping for a speedy meal. Surprisingly, the beef, cold noodles and banchan all blew us away. The marbled beef was outstanding, and our server grilled it perfectly -- it melted in our mouth. Their mushroom sauce was absolutely fantastic. The broth for the buckwheat cold naengmyeon was authentic beef stock, rich and savory without overpowering the natural flavor of the ingredients. The banchan were also incredibly well-made; we finished nearly every side dish on the table. Service was quick and efficient too. It's such a shame we only discovered this restaurant on our final day, we wish we'd come here earlier. I'd highly recommend this spot. Overall rating: 4.5 to 5 out of 5 stars.

It's extremely crispy and very high quality. A large issue I had at this establishment was the service. The server felt unfriendly, and whenever we tried to flag him down, he wouldn't even look at us. It took around 20 minutes after our meal to get our check which was ridiculous. It was a shame because this was easily one of my favorite meals in NYC, but I don't know if I would return solely due to the service.

You get to choose three appetizers, two mains, and one dessert, so it's a great way to try a variety of dishes, especially if you're sharing. The service was friendly and attentive, even though the restaurant was pretty busy. We did have to wait about 20 minutes past our reservation before being seated, but everything went smoothly after that. The restaurant is beautiful inside- liked the interior design choices a lot! My favorite dishes were the asparagus japchae, lotus root gangjeong, and the Korean melon dessert. Overall really enjoyed the meal and would definitely come back to try the regular menu.

What I got: - Asparagus Japchae: Very good - instead of traditional Japchae noodles, it's sliced asparagus and mushroom. The marinate was delish! - Shrimp Pancake: It was more like an omelette. Not so much of the actual pancake batter. - Spicy Fried Chicken: Nicely fried, standard. The spicy sauce is on the side, which allows us to adjust our bite. - Bossam: I enjoyed this! More Bossam pieces than lettuce, but overall taste of the meat was good. It didn't have the "bland pork" taste. - Pyongyang Cold Noodle: This was my first time having this dish. Seemed pretty traditional. The broth was on the lighter end for me. - Korean Melon: LOVEDD this dessert! A refreshing way to end the meal. The menu denotes cheese, but it wasn't even noticeable. It has a few toasted pine nuts mixed in, which were SOO good. Overall, a very filling meal and worth the $60 restaurant week value! Nothing absolutely blew me away, BUT the flavors were solid and the staff were great. Would come back for another deal!
