Junior's is known for its cheesecake, but their food is a hidden secret. We came in before going to a concert at Barclay Center. Parking is tough. We somehow got a spot right in front of the restaurant. There was no wait which was nice. Plenty of booths and tables. Also a counter you can sit at. The service was good from when we waked in. Staff was friendly and inviting. Lots of cool decor that has been collected since the restaurant was opened. The food was fantastic. Disco Fries were really good. The cheeseburger was cooked perfectly. The onion rings were some of the best that I've had. They were huge. I'm pretty sure they were from Bermuda onions. The batter had lots of flavor. We took the cheesecake to go because the portions were so big. Definitely one of the best cheesecake I have eaten. I got Funfetti. It's a mix of their cheesecake and Funfetti cake. Mind you, I've never dined in the restaurant itself, so I can't speak on the dining experience or any of the savory options, but the cheesecake slices really hit the spot. We were able to get late night slices quickly. The strawberry shortcake was my absolutely favorite and my partner loved the decadence and large serving he received of the ice cream, which went well with the strawberry cheesecake. I was in love at first bite. I was actually introduced to Junior's Restaurant & Bakery by one of my Lyft drivers during my first business trip to New York City. We started chatting during the ride, and somehow the conversation turned to food (which in New York is basically inevitable). He asked if I had tried Junior's cheesecake yet, and when I said no, he looked at me like I had committed a minor crime. He insisted I had to try the strawberry cheesecake before leaving the city. So naturally, I listened. And wow... that man knew exactly what he was talking about. The cheesecake is ridiculously creamy, perfectly balanced not overly sweet and that strawberry topping? Absolute main character energy. The kind of dessert that makes you close your eyes for a second after the first bite just to fully appreciate what just happened. I was introduced to this Junior's Restaurant location by yelper Letty C, a yelper out of Brooklyn, NY who visited, and reviewed. Once I noted its location being very close to my hotel in downtown Brooklyn, it became a must visit for me because I missed the opportunity to visit the Manhattan location months ago while visiting for United Airlines NYC Half Marathon. Out of its extensive menu, I ended up ordering side orders of mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, and a cherry cheesecake! I honestly felt as though I could not order from Junior's Restaurant of all places and not order a cheesecake, being that Junior's is known for cheesecake. I always love ordering online via yelp because it is convenient! Most of the time my orders are completed upon my arrival or near complete. By the time I arrived at Junior's my order was waiting for me behind the counter during this ordering experience. Picking up was just a verification that I was picking up a Grubhub order, as well as showing the email confirmation to the employee. Grateful to have had a smooth online ordering experience because the likelihood of me ordering online again at the location is very high. As for my food, the macaroni and cheese was the first of the two sides I started off with eating. I am still flabbergasted that it is considered a side because it appeared as though it could be more than that. I really enjoyed it as I hummed Digable Planets song "Rebirth Of Slick (Cool Like Dat) " which popped into my head as I walked back to my hotel. Now as for the mashed potatoes, they tasted good! I felt that they were perfectly made and satisfying with or without gravy. After eating both sides, I had to use every ounce of energy I had to work out because I literally just wanted to spread out across my bed and sleep, tehehe. And lastly, that luscious looking cherry cheesecake that I just had to have from Junior's. I ended up eating it the following day because I was so full after eating the side orders. And I kid you not, I had the sneakiest grin on my face each time I stuck my fork inside, pulling out each chunk of that delightful tasting piece of heaven that I smile each time I reminisce about. Needless to say that I had a great experience as I have clearly indicated in this review of Junior's Restaurant. I would surely re-visit again whenever staying in downtown Brooklyn. This is just what people want in a diner. It has that old world charm and a staff that pays attention to details. My server Lenworth T. was great. I sat at the counter for a Sunday breakfast. Menu items are awesome and filling. There is a good variety without having 10,000 choices. I settled for the corned beef hash, grits, two poached eggs and rye toast. A hearty breakfast to start the day on a cold windy morning the first of daylight wasting time. Good to see the staff paying attention to the small details from making sure glasses are clean and spotless to making the perfect cappuccino. Kid friendly/family friendly. So hard to put into words one of NYC's & America's most legendary restaurants. Everyone knows about Junior's & their world famous cheesecakes. They have a long history that dates back many many decades. The menu selection is endless. Service was quick & friendly. Ambiance inside is what you'd expect from an old school American restaurant. A lot of baseball & sports memorabilia on the walls with mirrors following you around. I've always wanted to come here to the Brooklyn iconic location & am so glad I finally did. Came here later at night on a Thursday for dinner. The pea soup is a must have every time. I also got the Reuben and my boyfriend got the Reuben but mixed the turkey and the corned beef. Strangely he had ordered the cheesesteak (literally our reason for going here) and was told someone got sick from it that day... it was very weird. Misty, foggy Saturday night between Christmas and New Year's in downtown Brooklyn. We haven't eaten here in more than 20 years (have gone to the new Times Square location twice though) and were nostalgic and curious. Neighborhood has gentrified, but Junior's feels about the same. Saw many negative reviews posted about this location, but this may have been due to individual expectations. We made reservations and were seated promptly upon arrival at 8pm. Our server brought us some pickles, beets and coleslaw shortly after we were seated. Nothing spectacular about the presentation or food quality, but just what was expected of a basic "diner-ish" eatery. We stuck to our go-to's from years past and ordered the butterfly shrimps and the Romanian skirt steak. The butterfly shrimp were served with a side of fries, both golden brown and crispy, not greasy. Fries needed about 3 more minutes, but still pretty good. The Romanian skirt steak was prepared perfectly medium rare and was very tender mad juicy. It was served with a side of steamed broccoli and a baked potato, both fresh and properly cooked. Tartare sauce, A1, sour cream, corn bread and rolls were also offered. We came here with expectations that the food would be "diner" quality and were more than satisfied. We weren't expecting 11MP, PerSe, Luger's, Masa or Omakase at a Michelin rated place. Come for good food, relax, the prices are fair, order conscienciously (this isn't a world famous BBQ place or Katz's) and you won't be disappointed. Including a Dr Brown's Cherry and a Cream soda, $105 out the door including tax and tip. Pretty fair for NYC. It wasn't so super that I'd want to go out of my way to return, but if I lived in the area I could see it being our home diner when we want diner food. Don't understand the hype in the slightest. All the diner food seemed mid at best. Ribs had no character and tasted like oven ribs made at your less talented aunts house. French fries were flaccid and undersalted. Matzo ball soup tasted like Campbells had a child with instant Matzo mix. It has been more than a decade since I last visited Juniors. Today my family and I stopped by after visiting a museum exhibit, there was no long wait. The wall decor was mostly posters and photos of historical Brooklyn landmarks. The Brooklyn Dodgers and memorable moments capture at earlier times. My sister ordered the pastrami reuben with creamy coleslaw and she enjoyed it. I had the Thai ginger garlic chicken, the spices were not tasty. Before the food came out we were served a bowl of pickles and beets. My visit would not be complete without the famous Junior Cheesecake , we got a couple of slices to go. Went to see a play on time square. Came out and went straight to juniors to eat. We were starving. Service was excellent, and ambience great. I had the baby back ribs. Could not finish it all. Took half home but while on the train this homeless young guy was begging he looked so hungry and thirsty so I gave him my ribs. He said are you sure. I said yes and to enjoy them. I knew going into the Benedict that the dish would be salty since it's smoked salmon, but I didn't realize it would be as salty as it was. I went to the Juniors in time square before and liked it. I tried the juniors (that I am told is the original ) in Brooklyn today. I wanted to love this location but I did not. The Mac n cheese was bland. 5 small fried shrimp was over $18 and they did not come with fries. I could have been okay with that if they were seasoned well and had cocktail Sauce.
