Okay this is a cool looking store. They have some cool stuff but a lot of it is overpriced and tbh you could get stuff just as good at Spencer's but whatever. Now what really grinds my gears is this situation. I went with my girlfriend and she wanted to try on these little shorts like made of a slick spandex material. She is lowkey thicc so she can't just buy things without trying them on. Well she took them in the dressing room but the sensor had stapled right through them it so you couldn't try them on. I went to see and they are all like that. I asked if there was any way she could try them on and they said you aren't allowed to try them on because people "stretch them out" BULLSHIT. I mean ok if you're gonna be like that at least have a real return policy. They were overpriced anyway though so it's not a big deal but I think its a valid complaint. read more

Junkman's Daughter: groovy. Or at least that's what we might have called it ages ago. It's a bit less groovy than when I first walked through their doors some twenty years ago. Less stuff, less cool stuff. But it's still a cool place to browse, particularly if you're looking for an off-beat item or a costume accessory. Or you need a new bong. I stopped today because a friend wanted to do a postcard exchange and I figured this would be a good place to find an unusual card (I was right). So the first time I ever set foot in junkmans daughter I was 16 and at the height of my alternative look. This was back in 1999. Yeah I've totally just dated myself. When I returned last week it was like time had stood still in all the best ways. It's like that best friend from high school that still looks the same (No grey hairs, no wrinkles) and you just get jealous. I went for a pair of heels because I forgot to bring mine with me. We showed up 15 minutes to closing and I ran upstairs to find out that the shoe department closes down before the rest of the store. I ask nicely if I could have 5 minutes. I knew what I wanted and it was just a matter of sizes. She graciously gave me the time. She also gave me a chance to grab a pair of boots for my daughter. I was in and out in the 5 minutes I promised. As I was going down the stairs I saw the cutest long black skirt and snatched that up headed towards the register (also for my daughter). I really wish I had had more time to look around and reminisce, however I already kept them over their normal time. This is a most go to if you are alternative and in Atlanta. I hope one day to go back and get something for my grandson or granddaughter. Kinda like a family tradition. So far they have clothed 2 generations of my family. I really hope for more. #145 Junkman's Daughter was like my "go-to" place for punk rock staples when I was a teenager in ATL. We lived so close to L5P that I could basically catch a short Marta trip or a long walk and find myself in the middle of the square. I remember being about 13 and meeting Ginny. She worked at the JD and had green hair and was so super cool--she was like my punk rock mom back then. She helped me pick out my Doc's and shave my head, and even bought me and my friends beer. Well, several years--decades--have passed and the JD is still here, but not Ginny :( I also remember my good friend Gary from Chicago worked here too after we came back from that cold city. He fit into the ATL punk scene so well. I guess what I am trying to say is I love JD and I have always had great fiends work here and help me with whatever I needed from teenage years to a short stint of adulthood. The stair case is a huge high heel, I think Shane Morton built it or designed it, I really do not remember--my ATL days were all such a haze--littered with sparse memories of this and that. There are some of the coolest shoes there upstairs. It is only befitting that one must walk up a huge high heel to arrive at the high heeled (and other) shoes. There are tons of clothes, toys, I mean whatever is peppered throughout the store. It is still such a cool place. I was looking for a scarf but this item I could not locate, but alas, I was brought back to some fond little memories. Junkman's Daughter is essentially Hot Topic before Hot Topic came around. A mom n pop Hot Topic? Yeah, it's as ridiculous as it sounds. I used to think this store was awesome when I was 16 and wanted A Clockwork Orange posters and rare Pearl Jam tees. The majority of the store is designer clothing for self-deigned 'freaks.' They have bondage gear, hipster Manson-ite skirts and tube tops, duds a Bettie Page fan would go nutso over. It's a target market that is shrinking day by day. Other than clothing, they are a glorified knick-knack shop. They have all kinds of Hula dolls and Elvis paraphernalia. 420 shirts and a whole back room full of bongs. Don't say bongs... 'water pipes.' You must have ten tattoos to work here. You have to have gone through a phase where you wore straps or bangs. You have to be 'an outcast.' A vanity shop for people who gets kicks out of novelty, and that's about it. read more

It is really sad that customers are saying that they only shop here for Halloween costumes...because I am one of those that shops here for everyday apparel. JD is a landmark and an institution. They carry most of the current underground brands and then some. The apparel section is not as large as it used to be, but is still decent compared to other businesses out there. Their shoe selection is also really nice. Sure it is expensive, but for me a pair of knee high leather boots with the soles bolted are investment pieces. Some of my boots from here have lasted me over 15 years and then some, and they are even back in style now for the Hipsters to drool over. They might want to consider getting a fully functioning website with a shopping cart to increase business and help with inventory, to get them through the months when it is not Halloween. They also have some decent posters and t-shirts if you actually like underground music and know what you are talking about. It is sad to see people talk smack about this place because it is as close to the East Village as ATL is ever going to get. read more

I'm a long-time customer as I live in O4W. I love this store, if for no other reason than the fact that I've discovered a few artists to follow through their selection, now I have several Naoshi sand art prints in my home and it's delightful. You never know what you'll find. Today I visited and got a matching kitchsy cat mug to a previous one purchased here. I also bought some fantastic gothic platform boots for stomping out racism and the patriarchy. The staff is always helpful and friendly. Next time I'll buy some new BLM gear or something witchy to celebrate and support my local shops, absolutely I mean it as a slap in the face to all the rude folks who think it's cool to try to drag our neighborhoods and stores down with poor reviews. :) Those folks should go back to Old Navy and and Bed Bath & Beyond where they belong. Junkman's Daughter has been a splinter in my butt for many years. Sure, when I was nineteen and new to Atlanta (yeah, I came from Memphis) this was the place to go. If you carried a purse bigger than your head they would make you keep it up front while you shopped. When I was a kid, this seemed logical. Now that I am almost 30 this offends me. But they still uphold that rule to this day. They have an array of stuff alterna-kiddies would love- band shirts, posters, drug stuff, hooker shoes, and toys of all sorts- from The Simpsons, to Felix the Cat. They also sell clothes, but it's more industrial-goth than anything, so if you are into that kind of stuff, have fun. They also sell more than that- you really need to go there to see what they have. I went in hoping to get some help with wigs and their was only one person available to do so. Well she spent almost 30 minutes with other "tryin on wigs" they had no intention of buy that by the time she got to me she was frustrated and kinda attitudy. They've gotten pricey on some things, it use to be a knickknack haven, but the stuff I saw this weekend was no different than I could get at Richards Variety store. Pretty cool place, but your run of the mill thrifty store with prices that aren't actually thrifty whatsoever. It's more for the assortment of random as hell shit you can get, like a magpie that just swooped over 20-somethings bedrooms and took random items of interest. It's a neat store to browse or good for gift-giving ideas/items. T-shirts are generally about $20 so that's certainly not a deal. I did see a number of things I wouldn't mind spending money on, but as a traveller I cannot spend and get bogged down with stuff I don't need. Still. A good place to check out. This place is eclectic. It is a large store full of fun finds ranging from cute clothing with unique fun statements to socks, posters and weird wild shoes. The store is a bit expensive, but it is located in a very popular part of town. I would advise vistors to first taken in the wonderful graffiti paintings on the outside of the store/strip mall before taking in the store itself. Proving once and for all that I am indeed the coolest dad and uncle, I took my daughter and niece to Little 5 Points to do some thrifting. I gave them pretty much an unlimited expense account. Surprisingly this is the one shop they left with no bag. Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining, just saying. It seems that it was too commercial, even for for them. Employees were available and helpful. Lot's of fun stuff to look at, just not to buy. This is the best place to park in L5P. read more

Would've given 5 stars because it is the coolest place I've ever shopped. There's a great collection of unique art and apparel. Deducting 2 stars because of rude staff. I felt more like a nuisance than a customer. I asked about a certain style of pillow and whether they had any more of them and the woman rolled her eyes at me and made a snarky comment about the item I was asking for. There was never a smile or an understanding of good customer service. For a store with such personality, the staff did not have any. Store is cool and they definitely have a decent variety of clothes for a number of occasions. However, the staff was remarkably unwelcoming. Also, the fitting rooms made me super uncomfortable. The doors of the fitting rooms are super small and as a tall person, I couldn't try on clothes comfortably and a girl who works there kept walking by and it felt like she was looking in my stall. Then it was confirmed when I guess she thought I had my mask off, when I didn't, and she peeked her head in and said that she was just making sure I had my mask on. It was just so uncomfortable, I don't think I can come back here. also, there's an upstairs area where you can also see in certain parts of the fitting room from the upstairs area where shoes are, which is completely open to the public. This clearly means someone could see you changing; actively naked. I'm an alert person so I noticed this immediately but I wanted to put this review so others know to pay attention to this and even if you do like the products the store sells, I can't say I can recommend from my experience that you actually try them on there ... I have always loved shopping here despite the overpriced items and have usually been treated kindly, although my experience today has changed everything and I will never shop here again. As I purchased my two items and left, the beeper goes off, implying I had possibly stolen something so I go back inside and explain to the man by the door that I hadn't taken anything and he is allowed to search my bag. He takes my beers out my bag and tries to insinuate I stole them from another store which I did not and even offered to call the person who purchased them for me which was my mother, he laughs and grabs more bags inside of my bag saying, "oh so this is what you stole" and of course he flashes it through the beeper and nothing is set off because I did not steal anything, he finds my inhaler and says "hold on to that, I don't want you to freak out or anything" and I was in shock with how rude he was, he begins throwing away my empty cans and criticizing me when I had intended on keeping those, I was in shock and disgusted. He called me a fucking theif And it ended with him realizing I didn't steal anything but he said he thinks I stole from another store and said HE WOULD BAN ME, but I never stole anything from any other stores and couldn't even prove it not to mention I was a paying customer and didn't steal from junk mans daughter either. This place is really cool. They had a bunch of stuff you can't find anywhere else. People in reviews like to compare it to hottopic but I found it more original. My husband found a back to the future wallet he was stoked about and my 13 year old actually enjoyed looking around (she's super hard to please sometimes). My husband and I had about 4 hours to kill before a flight, and I decided to search "shop" in Yelp and this came up. I could not understand what it was a store for at all from the pictures or reviews so I thought we should go check it out. I'm so glad we did! It is a REALLY cool store with tons of unique clothing items and a lot of cool home goods too. I found the prices to be pretty reasonable. A lot of the more expensive items were made of thicker, more expensive material. There were many very unique sweaters all for around 40-50 which obviously isn't cheap, but for something that's unique, well made, and good quality it's totally fair. There were also many vintage items that I was surprised were priced as low as they were, as a lot of times stores like this will charge insane amounts for vintage items. Also plenty of items were priced on the lower end, like their sunglasses which were (I think) all 10 dollars! My husband had a good time looking through everything as well. He got a shirt that was less than 30 dollars and got some cool Predator wall art that was only 15! I would DEFINITELY stop by here again next time I'm in the area. I'm glad we only had an hour before they closed or I might have bought more! read more

There's a guy sitting in front of the door, "We're closed." 2 people walk up behind us. "What's going on?" they ask. I knock on the door. "We're closed," he says again. I respond back, "Actually you have 9 minutes left." He says again, "We're closed." The people behind us, and us as well, "What the hell is their problem?" Seriously, it's Friday night - I don't want to be shopping for a mustache either, but I've got a party that I'm already late for and all I need is ONE THING. Seriously? I felt compelled to write a review on Junkman's. I remember going there when it was in the old location at the corner of Colquitt and Euclid. About twenty years ago. I bought a Jesus Watch there--instead of numbers, it had the twelve apostles and Jesus had the two hands. What time was Judas? Can't remember. I also bought my first pair of Dr. Martens there. For those not familiar with, it's located in Little Five Points which is the heart of alternative culture in Atlanta. Although it can be touristy, it still has worthy record stores, boutiques and great bars. Although Junkman's is a great place to browse for kitschy stuff, I rarely buy from here. I never find any apparel that I think is worth shelling out the overpriced amount for. I have bought a necklace and a tiki mug recently though. Okay, so what compelled me to write this? The most ungrateful attitude and pompous service ever. And it's sad. They are independently owned and although I'd like to support them, I really can't because of the employed culture there. They are just blatantly rude. I'd rather shop at Hot Topix because at least they have a friendly vibe. I am just really surprised that the owner allows this, but perhaps it's more of a cash cow than what I think and they just don't care since they know they are making bank. Snooty staff? CHECK! Overpriced items? CHECK! "vintage" dresses in over 10 different sizes? CHECK! Hot Topic and Claire's Mall boutique had a bastard baby? CHECK! I cannot understand why they are still in business. I've noticed they have a "following", but they are basically an overpriced, super stuffy mall store. The staff seems to think they have a PhD in punk, not sure, but they are not helpful, extremely rude, and basically just a group of aging hipsters who are too tatted up to apply at Starbucks. After dining in a nearby establishment, I had a bag of leftovers, I darted into Junkmans to buy some barrettes. The door man said I had to leave my bag of food with him for security reasons. Fine. Understandable. I explained to him it was leftover SOUP. SOUP, people, SOUP!!!!! Y'all know what soup is, right? It's SOUPY, cuz it's SOUP! I found the barrettes I needed, stood in line for about 20 minutes, and asked for my bag on the way out. The doorman tossed the bag at me, upside down, not a word said, my lunch for the following day was ruined. No apology, no "have a nice day", nothing. Additionally I paid over $25 for the barrettes I wanted and will order online in the future. The head shop is nothing special; just like any other, and the clothing is cliche'. Cherry on top: it cost $10 to park there, so the barrettes were actually $35. Did I mention my lack of soup? I don't understand their reputation. This place sucks. read more

Walked in was greeted by door guy. Headed right to the masks. No prices anywhere to be seen on the masks. You can't get the masks without help from the sales people. I had dreamed of having the time to go into what I thought would be a heaven of vintage and unusual items, but I was bonked on the head by the rude staff and high prices, and awoken to the reality that is Junkman's Daughter. I walked in excited to find something amazing, and received my first bonk as I walked through the threshold. Apparently this shop has gone through problems with shoplifting in the past and you have to leave your bag at the front. I breezed the first bonk off quickly as checking the bag seemed reasonable even if the sales people treated me like I was an alien for not knowing (FYI to the sales people...treating the customer like an alien = bad) I started to browse and received bonk #2. In the past bad service just meant being ignored...but here I could actually feel the staff glaring at me, and when I looked at them to confirm my suspicions, they didn't even bother to pretend to not be glaring at me, they just continued to give me the death stare. Finally I began to focus on the clothes. I mean yes plenty of places have bad service, and still great stock. Everything was falling apart or low quality. Many of the ideas behind the clothes were cute and creative, and I mean you can fix a seem or adjust a hem, or put in a zipper that doesn't look like it costs 1 cent? BONK #3 BONK #4...nothing was in my size. Maybe they were just running low on things? but most of the store was in XXXS...wow, are babies even supposed to be that skinny? Finally BONK #5 The strange sized, falling apart, cheaply made, clothing I stared at while the staff glared into my soul, was over $100....WHAT BS!!! I'm not sorry I went to Junkman's, I got some ideas and put cute outfits together at thrift stores with the inspiration, but I could never justify buying anything. I hear Physco Sisters is great...let's try that one shall we? read more

They are good for Halloween costumes and, I guess, in a pinch if you were in need of some vintage clothes, this would be a good place to go. The people who work there are not particularly friendly. Upon first entering, I was like, "Oh great another store full of rubber spiders, rave clothing, and trendy nick knacks... how original." Then I started noticing that these items were, for the most part, thoughtfully chosen for their kitsch value! I was actually walking around laughing at some of the choices, while in awe of others! My favorite had to be a large glitter and gel filled crystal ball that actually bounced like a rubber ball! It was as hypnotic as zoning out in this store! All that and the staff have a sense of humor! ... which I tested. Lets just leave it at that. read more

I've been coming to this store for years! The merchandise has fallen off tremendously!! I saw a shirt in there for $23 that I bought off line for $6 0_o they do have some neat stuff in there but I would buy my dope tshirts from offline before I dropped coin in here. Their plus size selection is depressing! If you are a thick size 11/12 and up forget it! Their prices are too damn high for the stuff they are trying to peddle. But... there are people who will pay it and that's how they stay open. **shrugs** will I be back? maybe if I'm in the area and want to look around. So my husband and I ended up in Junkman's daughter while we were walking off the half-million calories just consumed at The Vortex. What a fantastic find! From the back-seamed stockings for four dollars and a ridiculously cute pinup styled dress, I could shop there for hours. The kitchsy toy/household accessory/etc section was fun to peruse, and definitely rife with gift giving opportunities. As for this so-called surly staff? None of them were working the day we went in. Yes, I had to go through a theft detector, but when I set it off on the way in, the guy behind the counter was patient until we worked out that it was my skirt buttons that was setting it off. The lady who helped me with the dressing room chatted with my husband while he was waiting, and didn't even flinch when we admitted we were on our way to a Darius Rucker concert. The man behind the counter was cheerful and helpful, and even though he had the requisite tattoos and intimidating demeanor, happily demonstrated the meowing kitty-cat umbrella. Seriously has gone downhill since I left atl. Very limited range of sizes. Forget plus size, these sizist assholes barely have anything in a large. The great book and stationary section- GONE. The top floor shoe selection- picked to the bare bones. No adoptable kittens to say hi to. Everything I used to love about this place is dead and gone.
