I still like it and is an important anchor in L5P: a "third place" for me, rather than a corporate Starbucks is for many others. I've been going to Little 5 since the 80s when I was one of 'those teens'. I tried to be rebellious, but didn't quite pull it off. At least Junkman's Daughter was and is a place to explore subculture--even if you don't actively partake in it. What I do remember most about Junkman's was that it was down on the Euclid corner next to the Yacht Club where the Afro-Carib mini-mall now resides. In the back of the store was (and presumably still is) a rickety set of stairs leading to a dungeon of a basement, where Crazy Lou (the Junkman from which the Daughter takes her name) had the coolest skateboard shop ever. I wont lie, Ive experienced better. Before Junkman's Daughter became the rage. And I dont mean to sound elitist cause Im not but a few years ago, this place was the place to shop at in Little 5 Points. The store was stocked with stuff that you couldnt find in mall stores, shirts that were from bands of days gone by. The joke toys were hilarious. Now its turned into the place to be if your a hipster and want to spend 30 bucks on a shirt that you could find at Old Navy for 15 bucks. If that. L5P is a super cool area and Junkman's Daughter fits right in. I got my very first hair color idea from here and my very first hair color and the customer service was wonderful, my hair came out perfect. If you like to play dress up, cosplay, things like that, this is a good place to start because you'' at LEAST find a fun wig. They also have a cool collection of novelty items that are fun to buy as real gifts or gag gifts, a cool shoe section upstairs, and some nice vintage and screen tshirts as well. Trash or treasure, the choice is yours at Junkman's Daughter. Bizarre couldn't even begin to describe the underlying theme of the election. They have vintage and grungy garbs, bongs, books, figurines, scents, trinkets, costumes, adult toys, etc. Unfortunately some of the garments, like fifty dollar t-shirts, are astronomically over priced. It's a department store on Acid for the OTP kids who think they need to come into the city to be cool and discover a pop-culture treasure. There are some used clothes, some new clothes (very high priced compared to the same items at the Mall), and there are animation souvenirs, funny t-shirts, stripper shoes, and well you get the picture. It is more fun to look here than actually buy. the staff needs to spare me the attitude, I realize I don't have ink over half my body and I actually use deoderant after a daily shower, but I am a paying customer and a human being with feelings dammit! They do a huge business around Halloween, and this is when the attitude comes out the most, as they get a ton moe customers than they normally do. read more

There is something about this store that appeals to something awfully giggly deep inside of me. There is a lot going on in this space and I want to see it all. There is no way to describe it other than to say that Junkman's is filled with, well, stuff. Just lots of stuff. Clothes and incense and wigs and candy and books and more things that can be named. I bought myself a jigsaw puzzle of Bob Marley playing soccer. I snatched it as soon as I saw it and looked around for any schemers trying to steal my find (Teeheehee). There's a person manning the parking lot to collect your $5 in case you want to park in front and walk around L5P, but you don't have to pay that if you are going in the store. Oh how L5P has changed. I will always visit J-Mart when I go back though, it holds a special place in my heart. At one time, you didn't have access to cat butt air freshers, PVC pants and ironic T-Shirts at your fingertips. If you hated the mall and wanted to stock up on alterna-wear, you went to Little Five Points. Instead of dodging mall rats, you tripped over sleeping bums and were panhandled by people in $70 bondage pants. Nowadays, all these things can be found online, but sometimes you need instant gratification. Junkman's has been in business for over 20 years, the owner takes good care of her employees, and it's an Atlanta icon. Don't expect to go in there and get Nordstrom's service...it's part of the experience. L5P has always been that way. I always practice the Golden Rule and have not been disappointed. read more

You can get couture, accessories, shoes, bongs, and other fun items for any goth/rockabilly/rivethead/stoner/punk. It's worth a visit during Halloween season for the costumes and accessories as well. You have to check in your bags at the door, which is annoying, but I get why they do it! They have a truly eclectic range of vintage items and new stuff! Definitely take time to look through everything. Some things were a bit overpriced. I see this as basically a novelty item/gift shop, kind of like a Spencer's run by a team of hippies and goths. I can see this being very cool and a place that brings life and alternative culture to a city--but only in a different time, a time when it was harder to get your hands on these things. But today there are tons of websites you can browse that offer better selections at better prices. It doesn't help that as Atlanta develops bigger, more streamlined commercial competitions will start to make Junkman's obsolete. It now strikes me as better placed if it was on a tourist strip in a smaller town. There are some cool books and wigs. A smoke shop. The requisite anti-authority memorabilia and incense. Lots of useless stuff and a small selection of posters. The clothes are awful and cost too much for what they are. If you've never been you should check it out. Oh, Junkman's, what would last-minute gift shopping be without you? Novelty knockoff Limoges boxes? A set of magnets depicting all the living former presidents dressed as pimps? Junkman's has you covered. Junkman's is also an excellent place for hard-to-find accessories. I am one of those people who has a periodic need for fluorescent orange fishnet stockings, and Junkman's feels me. Were I not a respectable adult type, I would also have all my Manic Panic hair dye needs covered here. The clothes are pretty pricey, but I get to enjoy them indirectly through Craig's awesome window displays. They also have adoptable kitties hanging out behind the register. You can even come up and pet them, thus getting your feline fix for the week! read more

I only really come to this Little Five veteran tourist shop about once or twice a year now, usually for funny novelty gifts or thigh high stockings for the wife (yeah, c'mon). I mean, the pathetic souls that wander the aisles on the weekend eventually become loathsome to look at, despite initial entertainment value. All wide-eyed and full of wow looking at a Homer Simpson farting key chain, or some candy in the shape of a penis. "Man, they just don't have this kind of stuff down by the one horse town I live in, it's only Old Navy or Wal Mart in my neck of the woods." Wanna be cool while in here? Don't spend more than 10 minutes looking for anything and don't, no matter what, look one of the staff directly in the eye. Recently I was doing some Christmas shopping here and realized that some of the staff had been here longer than I could remember, and I ain't no spring chicken. If you own this place, then good for you, you're a genius. Probably makes great money. Like to toke it up? They've got a bunch of "water pipes" and "tobacco" pipes that some poor bastard will kind of help you out with. The clothes, I ignore because I have a lot of junk in my trunk and the clothes from the trunk of Junkman's Daughter won't fit; their loss. Something about the expensive prices makes me feel like they're ripping off Goth and Punk posers, which is a good thing. A definite staple store for L5P. read more

This place is great! We go whenever we are in Atlanta. We have found unique rings and things here. But the last time we were in the alarm went off when we were leaving g and the 'security' type of dude by the front door was SO RUDE that other customers were apologizing. The main reason I go here is for the pipe shop in the back. Most of the store is pretty random (like a more expensive Hot Topic specifically aimed at Lil 5 hipsters). Occasionally you will find something you never knew you needed, but once seeing cannot live without. In all of my time in the ATL, this was the only pipe shop that sold a banana bowl. Pretty much made my life. They also have decently priced sheesha supplies and cheap flavored tobacco. The staff are never that friendly, though it seems a common trend in Lil 5 shops. read more

Junkman's daughter has fallen far from it's once lofty perch... at least for men's clothing. It used to be a haven for shiny jackets, uniquely styled industrial/fetish/goth clothing, excellent Halloween costumes and a myriad of other random things. Sadly, over the years it seems like the quality and selection - specifically for MEN - seems to have suffered an almost total purge. I used to go into Junkman's and be able to shop for hours, trying on outfits, and usually walking out after spending several hundred dollars but on my latest trip... zero. Now, normally with this kind of total absence of the entire reason I went to the store, I'd probably leverage it a solid zero starts but Junkman's isn't just for guys and what used to be a guy's section has been replaced my a greater selection for women... though it's decidedly more costumey and less edgy. The random items seem to have taken a solid turn towards hipster as well, but it's a business and they are infesting little 5 now so I can't exactly blame them for that. Hopefully on my next trip to Atlanta I'll see Junkman's returning to it's former glory, but this has been a steady shift over the past ~5 years and I think it's a one way street sadly. Junkman's Daughter has gone through many changes over the years, but it's still a really cool place to look around and pick up a few dozen impulse buys. They have some clothing options that are pretty far out there, but it's a great place to find t-shirts, books, stickers and all kinds of crazy things that you see and just have to have for no particular reason. Their staff is always...a range of polite to cool to stern, but you gotta have all those elements in this place. So come here if you want to scratch the "book on witchcraft", "hookah" and "latex body suit with S&M mask" off of your grocery list. read more

JMD is a must see at least once in your life. They have every *off the wall* trinket and obscure article of clothing one could ever think of. Interesting. Very Interesting. I don't really know how to describe my visit to this store. Different, for lack of a better word. I went during the Halloween rush, but was still able to navigate around the store. The store contained many unique pieces, most really strange, impractical pieces. They did have a cool selection of stationary and jewelry, though. The clothes here weren't really my style (I'm a little more conservative), but I could see their appeal to other people. One BIG downside, though- THE PRICES! I was completely shocked when I looked at them. I saw a mediocre peasant skirt for $42! What in the world! It is not a high-end store and SHOULD NOT have prices that steep. They were definitely a turn-off. Overall, I may stop in the store again just to see if I can find some random something-or-other, but it's definitely not my favorite. My nerdy soul is fed when walking into this place for two important reasons: I'm convinced you can find literally every tchotchke, every kitch piece of anything (including my beloved robots or, like, a mini top hat) in the world here and, you can lose a good two hours wandering around this place, fighting with plastic swords, trying on costumes, or, playing with a Jesus and Mary salt and pepper shaker. I've never gone there and not found something that I had to have and I've been shopping there since they were down on Euclid Avenue. Yes, you have to check your bags. Shoplifting is a problem everywhere, what's the big deal? For me, the sales people have always responded with helpful suggestions. I've never felt that stare others wrote about. I'm not hip looking either. I'm an old coot who just happens to live outside the box. Times have changed, they've changed with it, keeping pace with fashions and gag gifts you just can't find any where else. I've always had fun wherever I've gone, I have fun here too. Are the people who aren't having fun, just pains in the Ass and transferring it to the staff who are only trying to make a living? It's a hip and trendy thrift store where you can find all the trendy parcels you need! From jewelry to shoes to lingerie, they carry just about everything. Junkman's Daughter has to be one of the most unusual stores in Little Five Points - and that's saying a ton, right there. And it's pretty darn cool too. This is the type of store you come to when you've got to rock it at a Halloween party, general costume party, you're a goth, a punk, a hipster or any other type of offbeat person in Atlanta with a fair bit of disposable income. Because although it's name implies it might be cheap, it's anything but. That awesome leather catsuit with flames running up the sides? $100 easy. That cute gothic lolita dress with skulls all over its skirt? $80. Those suspenders with unicorns fighting centaurs? $30 at least. They're not giving anything away here, folks. That's one of my biggest beefs with Junkman's - although most of this stuff are items you'd only wear once to a specially themed party, they charge you prices similar to regular clothing items suitable for normal public consumption. C'mon! I don't have a separate "whimsical, one-off, costume budget" here. Ok, rant aside, it's still a cool shop to go into and browse. Along with the crazy costumes there are wigs, pipes and bongs and incense in the back, funny magnets, tchochkes, bobble heads and action figures and more to entertain you with absolutely no practical use at all.
