I took my son out for a sushi date, and WOW!! this was hands down some of the best sushi I've ever had! Every bite was bursting with flavor, and the freshness of the fish was incredible. The Hamachi Jalapeño Sashimi was absolutely phenomenal the combination of fresh hamachi, creamy avocado, and the perfect kick from the jalapeño was pure perfection. We also enjoyed the Truffle Shuffle Roll, Rainbow Roll, Dragon Roll, Tuna Sashimi, and Salmon Sashimi, and every single dish was beautifully presented and packed with flavor. The quality of the ingredients truly shines through. The vibe was relaxed, welcoming, and perfect for a family dinner. The service was outstanding, attentive, and friendly from start to finish. Started with a greeting from Mr. Phillip greeted us upon entry. And service went up from there! Hannah, our server was sweet, efficient, detailed and had great recommendations. She refilled drinks without asking, smiled the whole time while assisting many tables. The food was amazing. Great on taste buds, filling and light on the tummy. This is our hands down best sushi place. I live in Orange County and when I visit family in Carlsbad, this is where I ask to go for dinner! It wasn't terrible but it wasn't great. If they didn't want to wait just like everyone else, then they could have left. Instead, him and his friends came in, ordered it "to go" and then left their mess and completely trashed the bar area. They were also completely disrespectful to the staff which we witnessed first hand. They acted like they were the only ones in the restaurant, which was clearly not the case. They have a great happy hour menu starting around 4:30 but I usually come for lunch on my work hours and honestly the service is quick and the food is always really fresh and good. I really like their bento box lunch specials, which are all priced between 15 and $18 And all the food always tastes fresh and we honestly get the best service from Yousef every single time. Bentos came with choice of onion or miso soup, California roll, chicken breast cooked teriyaki or hibachi style, rice, and salad. Everything was great quality and quite generous. Staff checked in on us and we're very friendly. The atmosphere was light bright and modern will definitely be repeat customers as we found our new Japanese go to spot. A nondescript place in a small shopping mall, sharing the parking lot just next to TownePlace Suites by Marriott. Lots of parking available. Once we walked in, we were greeted. It's free seating and we can sit anywhere we choose. We sat at the bar. There are different seats, booths, high tables, and seats at the bar. For Sunday lunch, it was very empty. And they were actively cleaning one side of the restaurant. The whole restaurant was kept very clean. And because it was empty, I was worried we had made a wrong choice - because it's not Asians working there, we tend to stereotype and second guess ourselves. We couldn't be more pleased with our choice at Junmai Sushi. My husband tended to be more picky about his beer and requested to taste the draft beer before ordering. He asked to taste the Asahi. It was amazing, and naturally, that was what he ordered. I ordered the Junmai lager. Both were light crisp and clean tasting. It was very refreshing and served in a chilled pint glass. That is superb!! We ordered a tempura dish for appetizers. It was mixed tempura- shrimp, sweet potato, zuchinni, in crispy tempura batter. It came with the dipping sauce, which was delicious! My husband ordered the habachi beef, and it was so delicious! It had everything and more. The beef was very well cooked. It was succulent, juicy, with just crispy bits on the end. In the bento box, there were also california rolls, a serving of tempura, a salad, pickled ginger, and rice. It also came with a serving of miso soup. The miso soup is just nice, not overly salted with seaweed and tofu, just the way I like it. And of course, I commandeered the soup. After all, happy wife, happy life!! I ordered the 2x2 sashimi combo. It was beautiful. It had 2 pieces of salmon, 2 pieces of tuna, and two pieces of yellowtail. It was plated beautifully, and the pickled ginger! Yes, finally, japanese style pickled ginger - most other places here in the states have the pink pickled ginger. This is authentic, and I truly enjoyed my sashimi. The freshest I have had outside of Asia. I also ordered the spicy salmon handroll. It was delicious. I can't say how satisfied I am today with lunch. They have found a fan in us. We even took a picture of the chef. We are so impressed with Junmai sushi We will be coming back again, again and again. It will be our go to japanese restaurant from now.
