Okay I get the hype now. I believe this is my new favorite ride of all time! The theming and the thrills were there! While waiting for the ride there was lots of interesting elements. For example a video with Chris Pratt that builds the ride premise that Jurassic World is trying to build a roller coaster right in the middle of the raptor enclosure. Definitely could see something like this happening in the movies and it going wrong. The ride itself goes so fast! Lots of twists and turns but also staying very smooth. Worth the wait. Though I believe if you try to go here right when you get to the park it has shorter lines. read more

Review of a person who is too timid to actually ride this coaster (but who's husband loves it) and is a local and pass holder: So Velocicoaster is awesome (apparently) it's too big and intense for me-the intensity I can stand is more of a Hulk/Dueling Dragons level. This is a touch above those. So I have never ridden this personally. But it is my husbands go-to ride. He never wants to miss it even though we are in park on a weekly basis. If you are like me and this is too intense, the queue is still really interesting. Lots of interesting interactive elements. There is a "family lounge" for those like us who don't want to ride or need to to do a child swap and there's ample seating, tv's with closed captioning for kids playing kids shows. Very well thought out for us which I appreciate. They also have water fountains and filtered bottle fillers on this longer. read more

I have a new favorite coaster at Universal though I haven't yet braved the long lines of the hot new kid on the block, Epic Universe. Velocicoaster out smashes the Hulk. It doesn't quite take the title of best coaster in Orlando, as I'm a huge fan of airtime and Seaworld's Mako delivers in droves in that department. Velocicoaster's highlight for me is the intense launch over the top hat and the drop over it. Loads of fun to experience and it looks lovely over the lagoon, both during the day and at night. Speaking of night the blue lighting package is sharp as all hell and whooshing around in the dark is extra thrilling. I went to Islands of Adventure with my sister yesterday and when we saw how light the lines were we upgraded to a two park pass and rode almost all the main attractions at Universal Studios Florida as well. The OG park closed a couple hours earlier than Islands of Adventure for a private event so we ended back where we started. We only rode one ride twice all day and I didn't have to think twice about suggesting Velocicoaster for the nightcap. This ride is no slouch during the day either. Plenty smooth with plenty of inversions and multiple launches. No issues with the lockers unlike over at the Hulk. Just enough theming, too. A couple of the videos they play in the queue have an unsettling uncanny valley AI vibe. Chris Pratt is in one as is Bryce Dallas Howard but it just seems like AI versions. That's neither here nor there but I'm not so knowledgeable as to name all the specific elements so I guess I'm just filling out space. At any rate if you're a thrill seeker or even not much of one like my sister I think you'd enjoy Velocicoaster. Score another one for the fearless mad scientists at Intamin. read more

Wow wow, i must say i absolutely LOVED the Velocicoaster!!!! It's a beautiful scene. The coaster was fast, smooth and exciting. The lady joined me on this! Love you for fighting your fears! The drops, inversions, helix twists all made for such a fun. Scream worthy adrenaline shot!!! Original wait time was 55 minutes. Who got thru it in about 25-30min no line hopper. It was the coaster that just put a smile on my face from the rapid launch to the ending halt. I would ride this 5-10x if we had the time this day! WELL worth it and MUST give it a go. This coaster and star dust racer were my TOP two rides on this trip! Cant wait to experience this again! Now it's not an extreme coaster by any means but there's different attractions for those types! Track Length: 1,436 meters Inversions: 4 Airtime Moments: 12 Barrel Roll Speed: 53 MPH Top Hat: 155ft with a 140ft drop at 80° angle Launch Starts: 2 Upside-Down Hang Time: 2.0 seconds What could go wrong? For me, absolutely nothing as I LOVE coasters! Though, if you aren't a coaster person, I would possibly sit this one out as it is pretty intense. The ride is especially intense in the front, and well worth the little extra wait (separate queue). We rode almost ten times in our 4 days in the Universal Parks. Easily it would have been more if my mom was a coaster person. There are amazing state of the art lockers that you can open on both sides, and be sure to empty EVERYTHING as you will go through a metal detector to make sure. This ride is intense and you will definitely lose items if you try to keep on your person. Once you ride, you'll know why they are so strict on it. Personally, I would suggest leaving any glasses as you'll be holding on them for dear life. Lastly, this is my favorite coaster in the United States. And absolute must! Beautiful theming through out and built by the state-of-the-art renowned coaster company Intamin. Be sure to strike a pose when you first launch as the photo is taken fairly quickly on this ride. Velocicoaster is a FIVE STAR ride! If there's one ride you MUST go on at Universal's Island of Adventure, it's this one!! If you're not a roller coaster person, it's okay me neither honestly LOL. Trust me, I was contemplating ALL day whether or not I wanted to go on this ride & finally 2 hrs before closing time, I decided to go! This ride & Stardust Racers in Epic Universe are my favorites now, of all the Universal rides. Velocicoaster is slightly faster than Stardust Racers. They both start off with a pretty fast launch & have multiple inversions! I really enjoyed this ride because of how SMOOTH it was... literally smooth like butter! I think that this ride looks much scarier & intimidating than it actually is! Universal + Disney do such a good job with bigger coasters, in my opinion. I didn't feel that stomach pull at all, that I typically experienced on big coasters w/ drops. Hehe, if we had more time before closing, I would totally go back x5. Originally the wait time was supposed to be 55 min but we ended up only waiting for 25 min! read more

The fastest coaster I've ever been on! This ride is so unique--there's no safety bar to pull over your head, just a secure lap bar around your waist, leaving you feeling completely open. I rode in the front row the other day for the first time and being able to see everything with no one in front of you was also unreal. Highly recommend waiting in line for the front if you haven't yet. Coaster is still crazy smooth and just a great time. When it's going, you think you can't possibly go faster.... But you do lol. It will send you on a thrill ride that will have you screaming and then begging to do it again. I'm not a fan of this coaster as it's just like ehhh nothing too fun a drawn out layout and very much so overhyped I've ridden 503 different roller coasters and this is easily in the top 200 but it's definitely not a ride I'd go seek out to ride over and over again as I just didn't like it all that much. It's more on the tame side so if you don't like extreme roller coasters then this is right for you as it's a lot of snappy turns and a few inversions nothing too intense either way it's still fun and a good fit for this park but it's just not one of my favorites. read more

One of the best coasters you'll ever ride -- fast, long track, lots of loops, drops, and barrel rolls that will make your stomach drop in the best of ways. Unlike many of the other Universal rides that require lockers, the lockers for this ride come after waiting in line. The first part of the queue is pretty uninspiring (though at least it's covered), but when you get inside, there are a couple of really cool animated raptors and Jurassic Park mock equipment that's pretty cool to look at (plus its air conditioned). Locker areas get a bit crowded, but the hassle is worth the wait for the ride! Take advantage of the single-riders line if you can! read more

Hands down the best rollercoaster I have ever been on! It is seriously the smoothest most thrilling ride. It's the fast ride in the park (it hits a little over 70mph), but also the only one I come off of without a headache since my head wasn't banging all around. The concept of only a lap bar when you are going upside down is WILD. They purposely have anti-gravity falls so it makes you feel like you are about to fall out. My husband is a roller coaster junkie, so by association, I have to ride a lot of roller coasters with him. VelociCoaster is one of the best I have ridden. First off, let me tell you that I'm not super comfortable riding coasters that go upside down if I don't have a shoulder harness holding me in. I was told by my husband (who I'm pretty sure wasn't intentionally lying) that VelociCoaster had such seatbelts. However, when we got to the front of the line, the locking mechanism did come down over your shoulders, but to my horror they then locked in down below your legs on either side and across your lap - nothing on your shoulders - ah! But I'm happy to report that I did not fly out of the ride (and never felt like I was going to, except when you're supposed to feel a little weightless). I won't spoil the entire experience by going into too much detail, but I will say it kicks off immediately with excitement and never slows down. Twists and turns, and one spot where it stalls a little when you're UPSIDE DOWN. In fact, my husband rode it again immediately after our first ride, and when he was done, he had to literally sit down for a while and rest and recover. Definitely an intense thrill ride that I'd recommend to any coaster fan! read more

Not to mention the moment you step in line, you can feel the intensity. The queue itself is immersive, with detailed Jurassic World theming that pulls you right into the world of velociraptors, as if you are in their cages and observatory. I love listening to the video that they have created in the waiting queue right before you enter the ride. It is engaging and evokes a level of nerves before stepping on the steel cart. Wait times can often be high (even though you typically walk through quicker than the wait times), it is well worth it! The ride itself doesn't disappoint, starting with an intense launch that propels you to high speeds in just a few seconds. And that's just the beginning. Mid ride you have a quick curve that turns into a propelling launch up the hill and over the large drop.. Ironically, as fast as you go, there are times that the roller coaster does not reach the top and comes back down due to it being propelled with magnets. As scary as it sounds, it is also very intriguing and exciting to think about considering it is still highly safe. Overall, this is my favorite rollercoaster, so much so I am an annual pass holder because I love bringing others here when they visit and showing how much fun this rollercoaster and the park is! Everything about this ride is fantastically done, from the incredible queue which gets you fully immersed in Jurassic World, to the cast of the film playing on the screens, to the ride design itself. It feels like you're actually visiting Jurassic World, the ride itself is very smooth and very fast! With the lockers being at the end of the queue it makes the whole experience a lot quicker and smoother. After riding the Hagrid ride I really thought it would be hard to find a better ride at Universal, then this raptor themed beauty opened up. This is a must do every time we come to Islands of Adventure, and I would definitely recommend doing it at night time or in the dark depending on time of year. It creates an even more exciting and thrilling experience, plus it feels about 10 mph quick here in the dark, don't question me that's just science! Next door to the ride the Jurassic Park Discovery center has some great merchandise and theming which further ties in with the area. The bridge between the lost continent and Jurassic World allows for a seamless transition between two lands, this also means that you can circumnavigate Hogsmead if you want to avoid some of the HP traffic read more

Never thought I would be reviewing a rollercoaster on Yelp but here we are! One ride and you'll understand why people can't get enough of this one. From the moment you enter the line until you exit, you are completely immersed in the storyline. Of course, all of that disappears from your mind as soon as the crew members give the thumbs up and your car makes its way inside where the raptors await. There is nothing like waiting as the anticipation builds up before that first launch. From there it's pure insanity as you speed through the track. Over the iconic top hat drop and inversion over people and water, all with nothing but a lap bar! Your butt is constantly coming out of the seat and you somehow feel like you could easily fall out all while somehow feeling security locked in. It's really one you have to ride to understand what I mean. Personally I prefer to sit in the even seats so I have something I can put my feet on to brace myself a bit more. The odd rows only have a metal wall so your feet dangle the entire ride, adding to the feeling of falling out. Depending on the level of intensity you're going for, that may be just what you want. Like most coasters, the closer to the front you are, the smoother the ride. But even in the very back, this is still one of the smoothest coasters you'll ever ride. Every spot offers a different experience so it's worth it to ride multiple times. Especially since the line moves pretty quick too. I love the locker system. You'll carry your items with you into the first half of the line. Then you will place them into the free, small lockers and head through the metal detectors and up to the second half of the line before the loading area. When you exit the ride, you pass through the other side of the lockers where you can gather your items. So make sure you push everything far in on the way in so you don't miss anything when you leave. This design makes for a much more efficient line and locker experience. They really thought of everything with this ride! read more

For all the adrenaline seekers out there, this ride is a MUST as it probably is the best rollercoaster in all of Islands of Adventure! But don't take it from me, a person who is too scared to ride rollercoasters. Take it from my group of 7 friends who rode it for the very first time on the very first day of our trip and couldn't stop talking about it for the remainder of the week and still consider it one of the highlights of the trip and one of the best rides they rode in all the theme parks we visited in Orlando! Also take it from the gift shop employee I talked to while I waited for my friends to finish riding the Velocicoaster who said that after this coaster opened, it just narrowly bumped Hagrid's ride out of first place in his opinion. I can attest that the line for this ride is relatively entertaining as well. The beginning portions are pretty boring as it's just a lot of snaked lines in the same general area, but once you get up to the raptors statue at the front and start going inside the building, that's where the line gets more interesting and immersive with props, videos, and characters from the Jurassic Park/World universe for you to enjoy! You can exit the line at the locker area, which is the final stop before queueing up to get onto the ride and the stairs will put you out right next to the exit and gift shop area where you can wait for your party. From this point of exit though, there seems to still be a bit of a line before people get on the ride as I was waiting down by the gift shop for quite a while before my friends came out! read more

Let me just say that this is one of the first coasters I've ridden after a 15-year hiatus of no coasters. I'm not a fan of coasters mainly because of the steep drops. I went on this one because my daughter didn't want to ride alone. It REALLY took a lot for me to do this because while standing in line you can't help but notice a BIG steep drop! You automatically assume that ok when you take off you're going to be blasted and then go take that drop. Nope!! Not on this coaster. The drop comes mid ride which is actually pretty cool! It's not as bad as having it in the beginning because you're already in the motions of zooming down the track. This ride is pretty amazing! It's my second favorite only to Hagrids. But they are sort of in different classes. This goes upside down and it's FAST! You think you're going fast until you pick up even more speed mid ride to then make it up that steep climb to zoom back down then over the water while being upside down and so cool! This coaster has lap restraints which made me a bit uneasy in the beginning because I've not ridden a coaster like this before. I'm used to the over the shoulder restraints! But I do have to say that this is much more comfortable and makes you feel more of a rich like you're flying. The majority of the wait line is indoor and air conditioned. There is a small portion that if the line is long enough will be outside but it moves quick and you'll be indoor in no time. Really cool is that they have lockers available before you board the ride. So you can place your belongings in there. Which they do make you remove everything from your pockets also. And you'll want to because I can tell ya that it'd probably fall out with how fast and loopy this ride is. I'll definitely be riding this more. If I can do it you can do it lol. read more

This ride blends thrill ride and theme ride really well. Main downside is that it often has a long wait time as a result. The line has plenty of videos and displays to keep the line at least a little interesting. The ride itself goes through the velociraptor paddock so lots to see during the ride itself as well as lots of sound effects. It's very fast so certainly a roller coaster as well. Not suitable for all ages. You will need to store everything, even fanny packs, in a free ride locker. The locker uses either a paper park ticket or a locker ticket from the crew. You will also walk through a metal detector so no skipping the lockers. Overall it is a very fun ride. read more

This is a five star roller coaster, from the moment you walk in the queue, until the moment you get off the ride, your stomach a little queasy on your legs a'quiver. In the summer of 2022, our family enjoyed a month long road trip from Los Angeles to Key West and back. On the way down, we spent three nights in Universal Orlando, enjoying our stay at the resort, and utilizing our park hopper and fast passes to the max. On our second day there, we got up early before the park opened, to stand out front with the other early birds, hoping for prehistoric worms. That's right, most of the folks there joined us in our speedwalking to Velocicoaster. Because we were among the first in the park, we pretty much walked right on, maybe five minutes in line. While waiting, visitors are treated to pretty amazing special effects, including dietetic material from the movies, and a little creativity from the universal designers. The roller coaster itself is nothing short of exhilarating; all of the twists and turns you would expect, but as the name suggests, there are multiple parts of the ride that re-accelerate your car. Borderline black out on a couple of the more sensory stretching curves and loops, but pretty awesome from start to finish. Truth be told, I don't know if I was ready for this at eight in the morning, but no point in steering now. By the time we got off the road, the wait was 45 minutes... still pretty goodbye Universal standards, but a far cry from walking on just a few moments before. John and I got annual passes together for the first time! I've had passes in the past, but went with my kids. So it was a treat to run the park two days in a row with John. We hit this ride first thing in the morning Monday- with early park access and the wait time quoted 50 minutes by the time we walked back to the coaster- but we breezed through in about 30 minutes! The ride- I love roller coasters- and this one delivered plenty of adrenaline rushes! Featuring two high speed launches, a 155 high top hat signature thrill element, four inversions- this ride had you out of your seat more than in it! Top speed is 70 miles an hour, the rush is real. The first launch had a wicked whip the made my spine pop and my glasses started leaving my face! I somehow caught the glasses mid air and decided to just hold them for the rest of the ride. Other than the whipping banking turns- it is a smooth rail ride- the inversions were flawless! Average wait times for this ride was running 50 minutes to 90 minutes throughout both days in the park- my advise is hit this one first. It's worth it. *We rode back row!
