I asked her if I could seat in the inside area where two women were sitting. The oldest clerk sent me to sit next door instead. I think she is racist because the women who were sitting inside eating their pastries were white and we are not. However we are proud of our background, because we treat people like real people with dignity and respect. I believe this clerk should go home and retire, as she is not willing to do what is right. I stopped in from my way home from work- the girl who "helped" me barely said any words. Did not offer any assistance or suggestions-just stared at me impatiently. I ordered a slice of tuxedo cake, she rang me up, bagged up my cake and walked off before I even had my wallet put away. It was a cold experience and felt like I inconvenienced her having to actually ring me up. The cake was the real issue though! It was hard and dry, I would guess at least a couple weeks old. Honestly, I could not even eat half of it- absolutely disgusting. Offered a bite to my teenage son (who will literally eat anything) and even he said it tasted old and meh. This is the best cake I have ever had. 21 years ago I hired them to make my wedding cake. I moved back home after 20 years and found my way back here. Just as good as I remembered. The cake choices are amazing. You can buy individual slices or a whole cake. You end up with about two slices more with a whole cake for the price. We have ordered from Just American Desserts from the first year they were in business, many years ago. We've always ordered a cake for special birthdays, church dedications, and wedding/baby showers. We haven't ordered for quite awhile and this year we need one of their special cakes! My daughter works in healthcare and has hardly missed a day of work, and has worked double and triple shifts to help out her coworkers during Covid-19. Here are the bullets: - The place is verrry dated--like it should have been the shop that produced the cake in "The Wedding Singer." - All of the slices are pre-cut and pre-packed--not helping with the freshness at all. - The prices aren't too high ($4-5), and the slices are pretty big. - The cake really isn't that great. But the biggest problem was the service. The lady helping us was just rude. No suggestions. Not conversational. We we chatting, suggesting flavors, and she was almost offended that we would even dare to suggest new ideas. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. The problem: Their cake tastes like it's been frozen. Safeway's cakes taste better. Maybe they just freeze the samples, but if I'm shelling out $700 for a wedding cake, I want to know exactly what it's going to taste like before I commit. Furthermore, their albums featured cakes that were VERY outdated. You could tell the pictures were from the 90's because the wedding dresses had big, poofy sleeves and the cakes were just as obnoxious. Our wedding cake was included in the diamond package at Glover Mansion, so I was worried I would be stuck with a couple of preselected choices. I can gladly say that I was very wrong. My only limitation was that the cake was the size that fed 100 guests, which is a three tier cake. My husband and I worked with Sue and came up with a custom design to fit perfectly with our wedding. Beyond the pretty designs, the cake is delicious! My mother in law isn't a huge fan of cake and she loved it. They have a variety of cakes and fillings so you can create the flavor you are looking for. We had our bottom tier be white cake with rum raspberry filling, and the second tier be Washington apple cake with hazelnut filling. She only uses cream cheese buttercream frosting, which is my personal favorite. Our anniversary tier was white cake with lemon filling. We couldn't wait the year because it was too good. We had it at Christmas.. Sue also worked with us to create two surprise cupcakes with a crab design for an inside joke with our officiant. The crab cupcakes were adorable and delicious. Working with them was a real treat, pun intended! The tasting was so much fun, I felt like I was on a cooking show judging different creations by master bakers. When the cake arrived, I was so happy! It was exactly as we had designed, and it looked so good. The delivery process was seamless and I didn't have to do any follow up. The tasting and wedding cake tasted a little bit different, merely because of the ratio of filling to cake. It wasn't a bad difference, just keep that in mind at the tasting because you'll want to know the texture and flavor of your cake on your wedding day. We will definitely be using their services again, perhaps to bake a new cake for our anniversary since we already ate ours! read more
