we ordered a Carrot Cake for Easter assuming it would be as good (at least) or better than we could bake at home. Also, some of our family members have nut allergies so we wanted one special cake, with nuts, for everyone else. Well, we were very disappointed with the cake. First of all, NO NUTS, at all! In a carrot cake?! We couldn't even tell that it was a carrot cake. No texture and overloaded with sugary cream cheese frosting. It was expensive to boot! Food: This is the worst bakery I have ever purchased pastries. The expensive cheesecake I bought tasted old. It made me want to vomit after I tasted a piece. I will throw it in a the trash can now. Service The young girl was nice. Service The oldest clerk could use training in customer service. Ambiance The ambiance was unwelcoming. I asked her if I could seat in the inside area where two women were sitting. The oldest clerk sent me to sit next door instead. I think she is racist because the women who were sitting inside eating their pastries were white and we are not. However we are proud of our background, because we treat people like real people with dignity and respect. I believe this clerk should go home and retire, as she is not willing to do what is right. After all, she is being paid to work with the public. I give her an F for failing to do her job at the main counter. I don't recommend this place. The cheesecake belongs in the trash can. read more

Every time I visit Spokane I buy a cake from Just American Desserts. The best cakes ever highly recommend the Carrot cake. They are all good and can be picked up at two different locations when ordering over the phone. Super nice staff highly recommend. So eat the cake and buy the shoes life is short. read more

I'm really hoping today was a one off. I've had various desserts from here; ranging from cakes to cookies to the cheesecakes. Never have I had a "bad" dessert from here - until today. I stopped in from my way home from work- the girl who "helped" me barely said any words. Did not offer any assistance or suggestions-just stared at me impatiently. I ordered a slice of tuxedo cake, she rang me up, bagged up my cake and walked off before I even had my wallet put away. It was a cold experience and felt like I inconvenienced her having to actually ring me up. The cake was the real issue though! It was hard and dry, I would guess at least a couple weeks old. Honestly, I could not even eat half of it- absolutely disgusting. Offered a bite to my teenage son (who will literally eat anything) and even he said it tasted old and meh. Over eight dollars for a slice of cake that is not fresh?! read more

This is the best cake I have ever had. 21 years ago I hired them to make my wedding cake. I moved back home after 20 years and found my way back here. Just as good as I remembered. The cake choices are amazing. You can buy individual slices or a whole cake. You end up with about two slices more with a whole cake for the price. My salted caramel chocolate cake was $42 and worth every penny. I came home stressed out and a slice of this creation soothed my soul. read more

I called to get a cake for my birthday. I told them I am allergic to cream cheese and just wanted butter cream and they refused to make the cake that way and said that they can only do frosting with cream cheese in it. What kind of a bakery doesn't know how to make frosting without cream cheese in it?? Super disappointed. read more

My boss buys everyone a cake from here for their birthday so I've probably tried every kind they have lol! You can't go wrong they are so good especially when they are cold still. I'm not a fan of the cheesecake but they do have a lot of varieties and I'm not a huge cheesecake person anyways. The only downfall is if you want to go in and buy just a slice the selection is always pretty small. But it is all made fresh so that's understandable. read more

I have had cake all around the world and believe that the Tuxedo Cake at Just American Desserts is the best cake I have ever tasted. Really like the Choc Chip cake too ... all their cakes are good! This shop has been open for 35 years and I am so grateful it is still around. Try a tuxedo cake and all of the sudden you'll be looking for reasons to celebrate with cake going forward! Also, their little bday cakes are the greatest things of all time, and are a great gift to make someone feel special! Honestly, if you have a really bad day or get bad news this cake can make you feel better, it is magical. We have ordered from Just American Desserts from the first year they were in business, many years ago. We've always ordered a cake for special birthdays, church dedications, and wedding/baby showers. We haven't ordered for quite awhile and this year we need one of their special cakes! My daughter works in healthcare and has hardly missed a day of work, and has worked double and triple shifts to help out her coworkers during Covid-19. We give text 'hugs' and air hugs when she comes over and stands in our yard to say hi. We ordered a special requested birthday cake for her and took the cake, balloons and her gifts and delivered them to her porch. She had asked for a cake with some red licorice on it like she had when she was a little girl. Just American Desserts added the perfect touch! She was so happy, and in tears. I came here a couple of months ago and left wanting to write a scathing review, even promised the people I was with that I would do so. I didn't. And now I'm not so angry. But it's still in my mind as a frustrating experience. Here are the bullets: - The place is verrry dated--like it should have been the shop that produced the cake in "The Wedding Singer." - All of the slices are pre-cut and pre-packed--not helping with the freshness at all. - The prices aren't too high ($4-5), and the slices are pretty big. - The cake really isn't that great. But the biggest problem was the service. The lady helping us was just rude. No suggestions. Not conversational. We we chatting, suggesting flavors, and she was almost offended that we would even dare to suggest new ideas. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Maybe it's just this location and the other ones are good. But not the Spokane Valley location. read more

I came here for a wedding cake consultation with my fiance. While the ladies who helped us were very nice, we were not impressed and ended up going with Happy Cake Co. down the street. The problem: Their cake tastes like it's been frozen. Safeway's cakes taste better. Maybe they just freeze the samples, but if I'm shelling out $700 for a wedding cake, I want to know exactly what it's going to taste like before I commit. Furthermore, their albums featured cakes that were VERY outdated. You could tell the pictures were from the 90's because the wedding dresses had big, poofy sleeves and the cakes were just as obnoxious. An A plus to Just American Desserts who provided our Thanksgiving pies. All three pies were phenomenal. High quality crusts. Yum! They went the extra mile to make me a pecan pie, and it was the best pecan pie I've ever ever had. The pumpkin pie was awesome and the apple pie was awesome. I appreciated during this Covid time they were appreciative and thankful for our business. This was evident when I called to place my order. Our wedding cake was included in the diamond package at Glover Mansion, so I was worried I would be stuck with a couple of preselected choices. I can gladly say that I was very wrong. My only limitation was that the cake was the size that fed 100 guests, which is a three tier cake. My husband and I worked with Sue and came up with a custom design to fit perfectly with our wedding. Beyond the pretty designs, the cake is delicious! My mother in law isn't a huge fan of cake and she loved it. They have a variety of cakes and fillings so you can create the flavor you are looking for. We had our bottom tier be white cake with rum raspberry filling, and the second tier be Washington apple cake with hazelnut filling. She only uses cream cheese buttercream frosting, which is my personal favorite. Our anniversary tier was white cake with lemon filling. We couldn't wait the year because it was too good. We had it at Christmas.. Sue also worked with us to create two surprise cupcakes with a crab design for an inside joke with our officiant. The crab cupcakes were adorable and delicious. Working with them was a real treat, pun intended! The tasting was so much fun, I felt like I was on a cooking show judging different creations by master bakers. When the cake arrived, I was so happy! It was exactly as we had designed, and it looked so good. The delivery process was seamless and I didn't have to do any follow up. The tasting and wedding cake tasted a little bit different, merely because of the ratio of filling to cake. It wasn't a bad difference, just keep that in mind at the tasting because you'll want to know the texture and flavor of your cake on your wedding day. We will definitely be using their services again, perhaps to bake a new cake for our anniversary since we already ate ours! read more
