I went there for a second time on Wednesday with a friend of mine. She ordered a one egg breakfast which looked good and the bacon was cooked crisp as she asked. I ordered just a waffle like I had done before. The first time it was crisp and very good. This time it was a little soggy inside and had to much of a baking powder taste or baking soda - not sure which. I really should have said something because I usually do but this time I did not. The waiter was very nice and very good so no problems there. Just wanted to let the cook know of the difference in the waffle this time. But, I will go again. read more

From the homemade corned beef hash, to delightful home fries to great coffee, you can't do much better. And the bacon, oh the bacon! Horrible customer service. we walked in and were ignored for 10 mins. Finally got a cup of coffee and menus from the manager.. and the second we were handed menus.. our server was right behind her and asked us if we were ready to order! We hadn't even looked at the menu. Then we were forgot about and sat for another 10 mins before he came over and finally took our order after trying to blame it on someone but himself for not taking our order yet.. even though he was our server. food was amazing though. read more

My kids and I tried this place for the second time. Neither time has the food been anything above edible for me; I did not like the hash and the chicken fried steak seemed to be reheated frozen food. My son did enjoyed his cinnamon roll during his first visit and his pancake and eggs during this visit. I tried their pancakes and they are good. The service was good during both visits. The restaurant is clean. The food was a fair price. My kids enjoyed playing with the Etch a Sketch at the table. I'll be back when we want pancakes. read more

We are fans of Home Plate next door and had high hopes for this place too since it is the same owners. Sadly, this place was a little disappointing. Cute place inside, family friendly but food could have been better. We paid $5 for a side of fruit and ended up getting 4 pieces of melon. Still very new and hopeful their menu will improve! First visit w/ high hopes for a new breakfast place in the neighborhood. The place was busy but not packed on a Sunday. We were greeted and served coffee promptly, given adequate time to look at the menu. A nice selection! We noticed that the noise from the kitchen was very loud with frequent, unpleasant crashing of dishes and clanking of metal. We ordered a waffle, it came out pale, dense, and doughy. Clearly undercooked but hubby didn't mind, the flavor was good. We also ordered the southwestern omelette, that came with toast, a dozen cubes of spicy potatoes, a teaspoon of mashed avocado. Yum right? Well... everything on that plate was burnt, as was the side of bacon. I don't mind well done food but brown, scorched omelette? Not great. The coffee kept flowing freely but we had to flag down the server for the syrup and salsa (it actually was Pico de Gallo) we had asked for waters and Chalula hot sauce which never arrived. I was so excited for this place to open, but a little disappointed when we checked it out. It wasn't impressive- For example, we ordered a side of fruit, and it was canned fruit cocktail. There were tons of people working, so the service was pretty good (almost too much service). It was cheap, and baby friendly, so good in that respect. read more

I went today as well. Ken, if you where the chap that had a bandage over 1 eye , with burrito's and kept waving at the waiters to get their attention, I was behind you, and yes you wait a long time, for like 10 mins till you caught their attention. I went in, and was eventually told to sit myself, fine no problem, but every single person that came in, stood on the carpet and waited for someone to sit them as there is no sign saying seat yourself. . There was 6 wait people there. I started off with 1 person saying sit wherever, , then waited. A while...., then another waitress (bless her heart, she was the only competent person there and ended up waiting all the tables) I got coffee, as I know that the 1st review said it was weak. I found the coffee to be not bad at all. It was a fairly strong blend and they had several flavored milk cartons to go with it, all put on the table, no dish. I then ordered Chicken Fried Steak with white toast. It came with 2 eggs, the chicken fried steak and not white toast, but wheat, toast. The eggs where cooked to perfection at sunny side up, but they where stone cold, totally frigid, such a shame, cus they where perfect. . The chicken fried steak, was lovely and hot and a crispy tasty coating, until you cut into it. Then you realized it was basically a crust with a burger in the middle. The crust, really was tasty. But you could tell that the burger was flattened, then coated in batter, then flash froze. You could tell this, as the batter was the size of the 'steak' when it was frozen, but then deep fried and it shrank. A lot, it even tasted and looked like a burger. The gravy was really tasty, I really liked the gravy. But it was a deep dark gray. A slate gray, I have never seen a gravy like that before. BUT it was tasty, but I think it may have caused some tummy issues later on. . There were at least 6 people in the kitchen, 2 where cooking, I saw a lot of cell phones going on and orders, that where kind of piece mealed together. Like the hot biscuits where plated 1st, then eggs or gravy put on after it had been sitting under lamps, parts of it are cold. One lady, did have burnt potatoes, but seemed happy eating them, the burritos seemed like they where large sizes but they did ask for salsa as it was not provided,, another person had cheese on her breakfast sandwich which upset her dearly as 'she' thought the menu did not specify that (I think it did though)(but she was upset). I personally , spent, 1 hour and 15 mins, getting my breakfast there. But it wasn't bad, they are just starting up, there is going to teething problems. Would I recommend it. NO, not right now, it is not good, they need to find a decent person to run that kitchen and make Homemade recipes) Can they do yes, they totally can,,,they need a decent Chef, more prep time, to make those meals outstanding and not just below blah or average. They just need to spend the money on a Chef that can make homemade recipes and prep workers who can pull it off and if they did that, they-would blow everyone out of the water around here. Until then, though, I would give it a miss till they have a few months under their belts. And I am not being mean, or nasty, this is an honest review. Breakfast was fair. Ordered the Spanish Omelet, skimpy on the inside and the potatoes were so salty I couldn't eat them. My husband and daughter also had the breakfast potatoes which were also very salty. We told the waitress none of us could eat them. She offered to bring us hash browns - 10 minutes later she brought us one serving that was in a pool of butter. This is great place for everyone. Kid friendly, they have etch-a-sketches for them to play with, and the food is home cooked and prices are low. We like the walls and they even have espresso coffees. If you're looking for a good breakfast I don't recommend this place. They have small portions and are overpriced. I paid $11 for 3 Eggs over easy 2 oz of hash Browns, one piece of toast and 2 pieces of bacon that tasted like they had been sitting waiting to be reheated all Morning. In today's market if you're a breakfast restaurant you need big portions, good prices, and fresh food!I would have shared my disappointment with the server but he never asked me How my food Was period. Had they asked I would have expressed my disappointment. The little portion of hash browns they served me was soaked in oil and the one piece of toast was burnt. The bacon was old, you could tell that they had pretty made it and left it warming. Than they slap it on the grill to reheat and flattened it out with a plancha. It look like a giant used band aid. Rating is for our food. This was the first time we visited since they opened. We arrived about 9:30 a.m on a Wed. There were about 5 other booths of 2 people each. I had read previous Yelp reviews before going so I was ahead of the game. Upon entering we knew to seat ourselves from Yelp, so we grabbed a booth. Some reviews on Yelp mentioned lower booth table, paper menus, you could hear conversations in kitchen ...all were true. The table was not more than an inch lower than most. My husband mentioned the neat metal table but not the height. He is tall and had no problem eating. LOL. The paper menus were stained with food. Definitely need to laminate menus so they can be wiped down. And I saw on their menu board sign- SW omelet -now with Avocado. That had been a previous Yelp suggestion as well as providing jam/jelly for toast. Re latter, there were two little jam packages on our table. I noticed a couple on other tables too, so they must just provide a couple at a time so they are not ripped off, I guess. There was one waitress taking orders. One other waitress, I guess she was, gave us menus and water, but then I saw her making coffee, and doing various things behind counter. The other waitress waited on everyone I saw and brought everyone's food. She took a little over 5 min to take our order. She was very nice, but a slow mover. I could see the kitchen staff, two men and a young woman. They all looked a little confused and were looking at tickets and talking about how to make the particular order. Maybe they were training cooks? The order before us I could see one order come up and it just sat there under heat lamp. Could not tell if it was a heat lamp, but I hope. Then some minutes later another meal came up, and a few more minutes another. Then the waitress grabbed some things from Frig, not sure what, and then she grabbed all 3 plates and took them to table...hope all were still hot. Now for food. I was not sure what to expect after some reviews, but we both had great breakfasts! We waited maybe 10 minutes for food, and it was hot. I had the one biscuit with gravy that came with potAtoes too. It was the best I have had in Tucson with large chunks of sausage, also biscuit was fresh/good. Someone on Yelp mentioned gravy color was not so white when they had it...that is sausage and probably grill grease etc. mixed in. I have had this kind of gravy before. But it has the best taste! Anyway, it was excellent. My husband had a ham and cheese omelet with wheat toast and potatoes. He thought everything tasted excellent. The omelet was a 3-egg and large. We will definitely go again. I want to try their waffle next time. I did not have coffee today as I had my quota already, but waitress said it was Farmer's brand and very good. Went in here for breakfast yesterday with my husband. The golf tournament was on so my husband wanted to go somewhere with a tv. We figured we would try this place out. The menus looked good and pretty simple. We asked one server if they could turn the tv to channel 4 so my husband could watch golf. No one in the restaurant was watching the game so we didn't think it would be an issue. Boy were we wrong. The first server we asked was new and said she didn't know how to turn the TV but she would ask. We waited and asked another server. She came back and said that she had asked the manager but he didn't give her an answer because it was his team on the tv. The first server came back over and realized she forgot to ask. When she asked the manager he got upset and was loud. He changed the channel to the wrong one then threw the remote. At this point we canceled our order with who looked like the owner. We were embarrassed and pretty upset. We realize there was only one tv but we were paying customers and to be treated that way was horrible. I hope they fix the customer service. read more
